The biggest question CBS Sports had to answer at its media days on Tuesday was asked and answered in under three minutes.
After acknowledging the Tony Romo-sized elephant in the room, the network was forced to explain the down-ballot impact on the rest of its broadcast booths, with J.J. Watt being promoted to the lead booth alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson after the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback was placed on indefinite leave following an OWI arrest.
If there's a silver lining, it's that Ian Eagle doesn't really have a type. He's called games with Dan Fouts, Charles Davis and now Watt at CBS, on top of a rotating cast of NBA and college basketball partners over the years, and he just tends to make whoever's next to him sound better. Watt basically said as much heading into this past season, giving Eagle the credit for chemistry that helped the two of them crack the top five of Awful Announcing's 2025 NFL announcer rankings. That flexibility is CBS's biggest ****** et here. This isn't a booth that lives or dies on one specific pairing.
CBS has elected to pair Eagle with Ross Tucker and Evan Washburn, as the two have done many Thursday Night Football broadcasts together on Westwood One before "The Bird" departed that role following the 2024 season. Initially, Tucker was seen as having "a pretty good chance" to fill the open spot alongside Andrew Catalon in the fourth booth, but Romo's arrest seems to have changed that calculus.
Tucker has been a fixture in CBS's NFL rotation since the 2023 season, regularly working alongside Tom McCarthy as part of the network's sixth broadcast crew. He also calls college football for CBS and handles radio duties for Westwood One's Thursday Night Football coverage, rotating with Devin McCourty alongside Kevin Kugler. The Princeton alum and former offensive lineman also hosts the Ross Tucker Football Podcast for DraftKings and calls Philadelphia Eagles preseason games on local television.

NAIROBI, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Funding to tackle acute malnutrition in parts of Somalia has dropped by more than 80% this year, Médecins Sans Frontières said on Tuesday, even ‌though one in every four children screened in displacement camps in the southwest is severely ‌malnourished.
MSF Health Adviser Mitchell Sangma said the United States had cut its support to aid agencies in the country from $70 million last year to no funding this year, leaving aid groups struggling to respond as needs rise. Other Western donors have also cut funding.
"This year we have admitted 22,000 nutrition cases, more than 80% higher than last year. When we need this massive scale-up in intervention measures, we are seeing less interest from ‌donor support," Sangma said.
A July survey ⁠by MSF of 888 households in 14 displacement sites in Baidoa, southwest Somalia, found that one in four children was severely malnourished. One third of families ⁠said they were surviving on one meal a day, while only 2% could afford three meals.
Somalia is facing a worsening hunger crisis after repeated failed rainy seasons devastated crops, killed livestock and depleted water supplies. Conflict and insecurity have compounded the crisis, disrupting livelihoods and limiting access to food, healthcare and aid.

It's not every day you get to have a memorable breakfast with your boss. Most people expect a quick morning conversation to happen around the office coffee machine. Last month, though, 97.3 The Fan's Ben Higgins and Steve Woods, along with producer Paul Reindl, gathered for something much different. The long-running San Diego morning show, Ben & Woods, was celebrating Woods' birthday.
The mood was light. It was a typical Friday morning wrapping up MLB All-Star Week and preparing for the second half of the Padres season. Breakfast burritos were on the menu, but so was another surprise. Each member of the show received a new three-year contract extension.
"Anytime you can get extended in media these days is a giant win," says Woods, who called the moment the best birthday gift ever. "We have an audience that's so dedicated to the show and knows where we are. Not just us but taking care of our producer was also a big thing for us. As soon as they did that, that forced the issue for us to do this."
Since 2019, Ben & Woods has become a staple for San Diego sports fans. The show originally launched a year earlier on the former Mighty 1090 before moving to Audacy's 97.3 The Fan after the station shut down. The program was built specifically for San Diego, blending sports, culture, humor and personality. Higgins and Woods have never been afraid to let listeners into their lives, and that same transparency extends to contract negotiations.
"Honestly, I would like to handle things behind the scenes. But compromise is part of a good radio marriage," jokes Higgins. "Woods loves bringing it all out there for our listeners. Which is our strongest quality. In terms of our deal, we were in alignment on a lot. It was just a few things that if they agreed on, we'd be ready to sign. We were just so happy to get it done."

Three months before Lane Kiffin enraged the Ole Miss football fanbase by leaving for LSU, ESPN aired a documentary about him that showcased what seemed to be a genuine love for Oxford.

Her comment comes after Piker has praised China — and bashed the USA — on a number of occasions. During a fawning livestream while on a trip to the country last year, Piker insisted he would never dare criticize Mao Zedong, the founder of China's communist government.

Mateusz Gamrot suffered a devastating setback in his long-shot pursuit of a lightweight ****** le in Saturday's UFC Fight Night 284 main event.
Gamrot (26-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) was swept up in the whirlwind rise of Quillan Salkilld (13-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) in their headliner at Meta APEX in Las Vegas, finding little success before he was submitted inside the first round.
It's only the second time Gamrot has been finished in his career, and it comes at a difficult time for the 35-year-old. He was just starting to rebuild momentum after short-notice main event loss to Charles Oliveira in October, and his extremely willingness to take on any of the rising names at 155-pound reared its ugly head here.
Time will tell if this loss for Gamrot will ultimately be part of some sort of championship journey for Salkilld, who is being rightfully praised for the performance because everyone holds the Polish fighter in that high of regard. Gamrot doesn't have time given his age, though, at least according to the history of elite-tier divisional competition.
The upside for him, however, is that he is extremely dedicated to the sport and seemingly lives a pure life. He will work hard to bounce back from this, and will surely accept whatever name UFC gives to him.

New Hall of Fame inductee Roger Craig, who played for the San Francisco 49ers during their dynasty run in the 80s, announced that he has dementia.
Craig believes he got the disease from concussions he had gotten over the years while playing. He and his family started to notice changes in him and chalked it up to old age.
"Over time, my family noticed it too and ultimately led us to seek answers from my doctor," Craig said. "Two things can be true: Football gave me opportunities beyond anything I could imagine. It helped shape the man I became. At the same time, we know more today about brain health than when I played, and I hope sharing my story encourages people to pay attention to their health and seek help when something doesn't feel right."

The decision was made because of Instagram posts in which Melissa condemned the actions of Israel in Gaza, calling them genocide and ethnic cleansing and demanding peace. At the same time, Melissa left her talent agency.
During the recent interview on the public radio show "Latino USA," Melissa Barrera said that the decision to fire her from the role was part of a larger plan to silence the criticism of the war.
"It's hard to comprehend, but it's also not the first time that that has happened to someone, and it won't be the last. There are a lot of people that got fired for basically saying Palestinians deserve human rights, and they shouldn't be getting bombed and attacked in this way. And it's sad to me that there are interests that are more important to certain people of power and money, and that they don't care about people's lives and that they will do everything they can to shut people up from saying that people deserve to live, that children deserve to grow up," she said.
Spyglass Media Group said at the moment that they have zero tolerance for antisemitism or hate speech. Melissa Barrera claimed that her comments were about the actions of the war, not antisemitic.

Perez Hilton's family has shared a new update on his health following his alarming mental health episode that was livestreamed last week.
The celebrity gossip blogger remains in hospital in Florida, where his condition is "serious but stable", and he will require surgery in the coming days, according to his family.
In a new statement on Hilton's website, his family confirmed that he remains hospitalised under Florida's Mental Health Act, writing, "His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care. He has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements.
"Perez's condition remains serious but stable. He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days," the statement reads.
"His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday."
Hilton's family also asked for privacy for the prolific gossip-spreader, as he continues his recovery, and for the media and public to stay away from their property.

Hilton spent three weeks in the hospital in March after developing an ulcer, a perforation and sepsis. His friends now reportedly fear that the traumatic medical ordeal may have affected his mental health in the months that followed.
"His health struggles this year have been extreme. The sepsis honestly almost killed him," a source told Page Six. "I don't know if people realize just how traumatic and horrific that was for him, both physically, but also emotionally."
Post-sepsis syndrome affects up to 50% of survivors and can involve "new or worsened physical, cognitive, and psychological problems for months to years after hospital discharge," according to the Sepsis Alliance.
