Matchday 27 continued this Saturday (12) with six more games.
After the "crazy" 3-3 draw between Coritiba and Athletico-PR in the opening match of the round last Friday (11), the "rain of goals" continued in the Brasileirão.
The day began with Atlético-MG's solid 3-1 win over Fluminense in Belo Horizonte.
Both the Minas Gerais side and the Rio de Janeiro team fielded reserve/mixed lineups because of their continental deciders next week.
Galo need to overturn a 2-0 deficit at home against Santos in the Conmebol Sudamericana quarter-finals, while the Laranjeiras Tricolor travel to Argentina to face Platense holding a 2-0 advantage in the Libertadores quarter-finals.

LAS MINAS, Cuba (AP) — Liexer De La Cruz took a deep breath as he entered a federal courtroom in Miami, where life as he knew it would end.
It was Jan. 9, and he thought he was attending a routine immigration hearing — not deciding on the rest of his life in just seconds, having to choose between returning to Cuba or risking deportation at any moment. He didn't have a chance to confer with his wife and sister who were waiting outside.
De La Cruz had spent five years putting down roots in the United States after crossing almost a dozen countries by car, foot, bus and boat. He thought of what he and his wife had accomplished after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border into Texas in August 2021, obtaining the immigration forms in hopes of requesting green cards via the Cuban Adjustment Act.
"The first thing I did was call my aunt and I told her, 'I'm in the United States. I'm in the United States.' And we began to cry," he recalled.
Cubans have historically received preferential access to a pathway to U.S. citizenship via the Cuban Adjustment Act, but they have been increasingly targeted under the second Trump administration.

A Brazilian federal judge ordered the immediate suspension of all environmental licenses held by Sigma Mineração S.A., the operating subsidiary of Sigma Lithium Corporation (NASDAQ:SGML), for the Grota do Cirilo project. The September 4 preliminary order also halted mining activities following a civil action brought by the Federation of Quilombola Communities of Minas Gerais.
The dispute centers on whether the project lies within the area of influence of the Baú Quilombola Community and therefore required free, prior, and informed consultation. The judge cited studies placing the community's territory approximately 2.7 kilometers from the project's directly affected area, within the 8-kilometer presumptive regulatory impact radius applicable to mining projects outside Brazil's Legal Amazon under Interministerial Ordinance No. 60/2015. Sigma Lithium Corporation (NASDAQ:SGML) has argued that the project is outside the relevant impact zone.
The court ordered independent georeferencing and barred Minas Gerais and its environmental agency from issuing new licenses, amendments, or corrective approvals until the community-protection requirements are completed.
Two routes remain. If independent georeferencing supports the boundary position, Sigma Lithium Corporation (NASDAQ:SGML) could seek favorable court relief modifying or reversing the suspension. This provides an alternative to completing the consultation requirements.
If the project falls within the regulated impact area, Sigma Lithium Corporation (NASDAQ:SGML) would need Incra approval of the Quilombola Component Study, Basic Quilombola Environmental Plan and Final Execution Report, plus free, prior and informed consultation with the Baú community. Completing those requirements could preserve the project if acceptable mitigation is agreed.

Viridis Mining and Minerals has awarded the first major equipment contract for its Colossus Rare Earth Project in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil.
The company has selected Dewater Filter Press to supply the residue pressure filtration package following a 12-month competitive tender and technical evaluation process.
The contract includes the design, manufacture, fabrication, testing and supply of a filtration system intended to handle solid-liquid separation of processed clay before it is returned to the mine as part of rehabilitation activities.
According to Viridis, Dewater was chosen after dedicated testing using Colossus residue, which established the appropriate equipment sizing and operating parameters.
These tests also underpinned contractual performance guarantees for throughput and final residue moisture levels.

Cruzeiro and Atlético-MG to battle for a spot in the 2026 Copa Betano do Brasil semifinalsCredits: Gustavo Aleixo/Cruzeiro
Atlético-MG and Cruzeiro will decide a place in the 2026 Copa Betano do Brasil semifinals this Tuesday (1st). After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the Minas Gerais rivals meet again tonight at 9 p.m. (Brasília time) at Arena MRV in Belo Horizonte, with live coverage on SporTV and Premiere.
If the teams draw again, the matchup will be decided on penalties, a real possibility given how evenly balanced the first meeting was.
On Wednesday (2nd), Vasco and Palmeiras will take the field looking to protect the advantage they built at home. This time, the challenge will be away from their own stadiums. After a 1-0 win, Vasco visits Vitória at Barradão in Salvador. At Vila Belmiro in Santos, Palmeiras, leading 3-0, faces Santos. Both matches will kick off at 9:30 p.m. (Brasília time) and will be available on TV Globo, SporTV, Premiere, and Amazon.
On Thursday (3rd), Arena do Grêmio in Porto Alegre hosts Grêmio vs. Internacional at 8 p.m. (Brasília time). Amazon will broadcast the Rio Grande do Sul derby. Gre-Nal finished scoreless in the first leg at Beira-Rio.

It might be time that we inform the teams in the AL West that one of them is, in fact, allowed to win the division.
As August comes to a close, neither the Houston Astros, the Texas Rangers nor the Seattle Mariners look all that interested in running away with a very winnable division.
How bad has it been in the AL West this season?
All five teams in the division are currently .500 or worse, with the first-place Astros sitting at 67-67 entering play Friday. All five teams also currently have negative run differentials. The Astros, Rangers and Mariners are a combined -148.
Looking at it another way, three of the five teams have fired their general managers this season, including the Astros firing GM Dana Brown on Monday. The Angels (Perry Minasian) and A's (David Forst) fired their general managers in June and August, respectively.

St George Mining Ltd (ASX:SGQ, OTC:SGQMF) has entered a collaboration with the State of Minas Gerais and Brazilian industrial group Lima & Pergher to ****** s the development of a rare earths processing centre that could form a key part of Brazil's domestic mine-to-magnet supply chain.
The proposed Minas Gerais Rare Earths Processing Centre would process material from emerging projects across the state, including St George's Araxá Rare Earths-Niobium Project, and could produce refined materials suitable for downstream magnet manufacturing.
The parties have signed a Protocol of Intent establishing a framework to evaluate the centre, including the potential for its joint construction and operation. The initiative was unveiled at the EXPOSIBRAM mining conference in Belo Horizonte.
The processing centre would target the midstream portion of the rare earths supply chain, with the ability to handle feedstocks including rare earth concentrates, mixed rare earth carbonate and oxalate.
Its potential products could feed downstream users including MagBras, which is developing Brazil's first rare earth magnet-making facility.

Cruzeiro and Atlético-MG will compete for a spot in the Copa Betano do Brasil semifinalCredits: Gustavo Aleixo/Cruzeiro
CBF held the draw for the quarterfinals of the 2026 Copa do Brasil this Tuesday (11), in Rio de Janeiro, which will feature, for the first time since 1989, three state derby matchups. On one side of the bracket, the competition will have the clashes between Internacional x Grêmio and Cruzeiro x Atlético-MG. On the other, Vasco x Vitória and Palmeiras x Santos.
Of these four matchups, two have previously decided the tournament: the Minas Gerais derby, Atlético-MG x Cruzeiro, in 2014, when Galo were crowned champions, and the São Paulo derby, Palmeiras x Santos, in 2015, when Alviverde lifted the trophy.
Historically, all four matchups have taken place before. Grêmio and Inter faced each other only once, in 1992, in the quarterfinals, when Colorado advanced on penalties. Cruzeiro and Atlético-MG, in addition to the 2014 final, met in the quarterfinals in 2019 and 2025, with one victory for each side.

Andrew Baggarly just described today's activity as "frenetic," and he's right. The past two trade deadlines have been practically Zaidian for Buster Posey, Zack Minasian, and the San Francisco Giants. For as much as the franchise has oversteered from the 2019-2024 days, the new regime is a lot like the old one in that no matter what they've done to improve the team, it's been stuck in the zone of mediocre-to-bad. But Zaidi was (seemingly) constrained by ownership in how he could rebuild on the fly. Posey doesn't seem to have any constraints. Does that automatically make today's deadline deals great? In a moment, I'll grade them.
First, though, let's contextualize this ******* ysis. It helps that these 2026ers will go down as one of the worst teams in franchise history, something Zaidi's squads never came close to even suggesting. Trading away a chunk of the roster, then, would seem like a mercy killing. But also, with free agency and the regular season being such busts, the only real excitement these days seems to come from acquiring hope in the form of prospects. The Giants have done that in their past two drafts, at last year's deadline, and now, possibly, this year's deadline, too.
Take a look at this graph of Farm System Values (via FanGraphs) that was compiled by Sky Kalkman:
I admit that my eyes darted far to the right by sheer instinct. I've seen farm system rankings for decades now and have become accustomed to the Giants being down, down on the list. And yes, I'd forgotten that I'd written up FanGraphs' farm rankings back in June. The Giants have been on the rise for some time now. But heading into the trade deadline ranked #9 ? Cool! And that was before the majority of the trades.
Second, I hope people have internalized that trade deadline deals are usually not great deals. Yes, headliners are moved, but rarely does the team getting prospects in return get equal (future) value. But, like, in the case of say, the Detroit Tigers, it was going to be hard to get back fair value for Tarik Skubal whether they traded him before the season or at the deadline, and the fact that they decided to try to go for it this season with Skubal is a very reasonable one on their part that just didn't work out in the way they'd hoped.

The negotiations involving Atlético-MG and midfielder Fred have entered a new chapter, but there is still no imminent outcome for the Atlético fans.
The CEO of the Minas Gerais club, Pedro Daniel, spoke openly about the talks, making it clear that completing the deal is seen as very difficult at the moment.
The main obstacle is Fred's contract with the Turkish club, which runs until June 2027.
Since Galo's board has already decided it will not make major investments in the transfer window that opens on July 20, the deal would only be viable if the player terminates his contract with Fenerbahce.
The player returned to the Turkish club at the end of June, but Atlético continues to monitor the situation closely. Pedro Daniel explained the scenario:

We recently compiled a list of the 8 Best Rare Earth Stocks to Buy in 2026. Sigma Lithium Corporation (NASDAQ:SGML) is among the best rare earth stocks on this list.
TheFly reported on June 9 that SGML announced that a Court of Appeal Judge in the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais overturned a previous lower court ruling that included a potential $10 million legal collateral requirement. Separately, on June 2, Sigma Lithium Corporation (NASDAQ:SGML) reported the filing of one year of externally verified environmental monitoring data covering the 12 months through May 2026. The data demonstrated the company's performance in managing dust, noise, and vibration levels across nearby communities. Results showed dust emissions remained significantly below established regulatory standards, while vibration measurements were recorded at very low levels, and noise monitoring confirmed compliance with applicable requirements. SGML stated that the independently collected data provides objective evidence of its environmental performance and supports the company's commitment to sustainable mining practices.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Yet again, the Los Angeles Angels boast one of the greatest baseball talents of the generation, Mike Trout. Once again, that same Mike Trout finds himself limited due to injuries, even as he puts together his best season since 2022. Once again, the Angels failed to put together a team capable of winning significant games around Trout, and without him, they are downright terrible. And once again, despite finding themselves far out of playoff contention, their owner Arte Moreno seems disinclined to permit his front office to be true sellers, declaring Reid Detmers, José Soriano, and Jo Adell off-limits.
The only one thing different this year? The team fired general manager Perry Minasian last week, hiring John Mozeliak as the interim for the remainder of the season.
Should the Angels decide to do the smart thing and begin tearing everything down, they do have some pieces that may be of interest to teams throughout the league, including the Yankees. The pitching staff in particular is filled with quality names. A pair of young starters in Detmers and Soriano should be able to bring back sizeable prospect hauls if the front office was able to convince ownership to shop them around, as they are under team control for another two seasons. While Soriano gathered attention with his otherworldly start to the season, posting a 0.84 ERA through his first seven starts, it is Detmers who would be the more highly sought pitcher. His 2.9 fWAR ranks fourth among starters this season, and his metrics suggest that he is underperforming his 3.88 ERA. Soriano, meanwhile, has come down to earth after his meteoric rise, with a 5.34 ERA across his last 11 starts.
With the Angels’ interim general manager inexplicably believing that the team doesn’t need a rebuild, merely a small retool (perhaps influenced by ownership?), it’s much more likely that the team will be more inclined to trade from their bullpen depth. They may not exactly have an elite bullpen — they began the year with Jordan Romano as their closer, after all — there are some arms that may interest the Yankees. Veteran reliever Kirby Yates has rebounded nicely from a disastrous 2025 with the Dodgers, even if he hasn’t recaptured the magic of his 2024 season as the Rangers’ closer. With a 34.2 strikeout percentage that ranks 11th among relievers with at least 10 innings of work (he has pitched 17 innings this season), he would provide some swing-and-miss that the Yankees’ bullpen desperately needs.
On the offensive side, Los Angeles does not really match up with the Yankees. Zach Neto would give the team an offensive boost at the shortstop position, as he has a 114 wRC+ this season; defensively, though, he has taken a step back — instead of Defensive Runs Saved and Outs Above Average disagreeing on his performance (he had 13 DRS and -8 OAA last year), both stats are very low on him this year (-2 DRS, -8 OAA). Jo Adell gives the Yankees something they do

The Los Angeles Angels are in the middle of an 11th straight losing season. Fans have started demanding owner Arte Moreno sell the team through stadium protests and chants but it does not seem like Moreno has any intention of giving up the Halos.
Instead, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal said he expects Moreno to fire first-year manager Kurt Suzuki and general manager Perry Minasian at the end of the season. Rosenthal also said Moreno will likely wait until after a new collective-bargaining agreement is reached before hiring their replacements.
"Rarely does a head of baseball operations survive five straight losing seasons. Minasian is working on his sixth while in the last guaranteed year of his contract, and the team is heading for its 11th straight overall.
"… I'm calling it now: Moreno will dump Minasian and manager Kurt Suzuki at the end of the season, then save money by waiting until the end of the lockout to name replacements," Rosenthal wrote.
Both Suzuki and Minasian's contracts are expiring at the end of this season, which will make parting ways with the pair much smoother for the Angels.

Having come on strong in this year’s French Open, Diana Shnaider’s explosive left-handed forehand and double-handed backhand aren’t her only signatures.

The Russian-born player, who is recognizable for her colorful headscarves, is squaring off against Maja Chwalińska of Poland Thursday. Shnaider opted for a repeat look, wearing the same orange headscarf and black Yonex tennis dress that she wore Wednesday to defeat the WTA’s top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka. As for her French Open strategy, Shnaider told reporters earlier this week that she was “trying to go match by match.”

The Yonex-sponsored athlete was unmissable in an orange ribbed headscarf that accented the orange and turquoise trim on her black tennis dress with a leathery-looking pleated skirt. It also coordinates with the red clay courts at Roland-Garros.

Born in Zhigulevsk, Russia, Shnaider started playing tennis at the age of 4 and was training under coach Samvel Minasyan in Moscow by the age of 8. After a stint at North Carolina State University in 2022, she competed in her first Grand Slam tournament the following year at the Australian Open. Repped by Topnotch Management, the former Adidas-sponsored athlete has an endorsement deal with the sports media content company First & Red. Her career earnings to date are $5.17 million including $952,112 in prize earnings. This year women’s single winner at the French Open will take home 2,800,000 euros, or $3.25 million.

Her signature headscarf was something that she started wearing years ago to shield the sun. Shnaider’s parents were concerned that the fair-haired daughter would get sunburned on the courts, but caps and visors reportedly obstructed her view. So Shnaider opted for a headscarf that they bought in a supermarket. By 2023, Shnaider was outsourcing the design of her favorite accessory, by buying the material for a seamstress to design. However, for Wednesday’s upset victory, she appeared to wear a ribbed one with the Yonex logo on it. A Yonex representative deferred an interview request to Topnotch Management, which did not respond to requests for comment.
The American men’s singles player Frances Tiafoe copied the look last year by sporting a blue headscarf with white polka dots at last year’s Cincinnati Open. He gave her credit for the choice via Instagram inspiration on Instagram with “New look?? Appreciate u _di_shnaider_ .”
