The Los Angeles Angels are in the middle of an 11th straight losing season. Fans have started demanding owner Arte Moreno sell the team through stadium protests and chants but it does not seem like Moreno has any intention of giving up the Halos.
Instead, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal said he expects Moreno to fire first-year manager Kurt Suzuki and general manager Perry Minasian at the end of the season. Rosenthal also said Moreno will likely wait until after a new collective-bargaining agreement is reached before hiring their replacements.
"Rarely does a head of baseball operations survive five straight losing seasons. Minasian is working on his sixth while in the last guaranteed year of his contract, and the team is heading for its 11th straight overall.
"… I'm calling it now: Moreno will dump Minasian and manager Kurt Suzuki at the end of the season, then save money by waiting until the end of the lockout to name replacements," Rosenthal wrote.
Both Suzuki and Minasian's contracts are expiring at the end of this season, which will make parting ways with the pair much smoother for the Angels.
