The High Line has hosted forests, billboards, giant pigeons and enough public art to fill a small museum. Its newest resident, however, may be the flashiest yet: a monumental golden "snake" curling through the park in the Meatpacking District.
Bulgari has unveiled auruBOROS—Urban Memory and Collective Dream, a 33-foot pneumatic sculpture created by Berlin-based art and architecture duo Plastique Fantastique. The free installation is now open above Little West 12th Street, near The Standard, High Line, and will remain on view through September 20.
The work resembles a gleaming serpent or double helix, with massive coils rising from beneath the elevated park and wrapping around its concrete supports. Visitors can walk among and through the reflective forms, which shift in appearance as sunlight, shadows and passing New Yorkers bounce off the metallic surface.
The sculpture's name combines aurum, the Latin word for gold, with ouroboros, the ancient image of a serpent eating its own tail. Its location also fits the installation's themes of memory and transformation: the High Line, after all, turned an abandoned freight railway into one of the city's most popular public **** es.
Created by Plastique Fantastique artists Marco Canevacci and Yena Young, auruBOROS is Bulgari's first public art installation in the United States. The duo is known for large-scale inflatable environments, including a giant ring that encircled a Paris footbridge during Nuit Blanche in 2023 and an immersive installation at the 2019 Venice Biennale.

Hasan Piker was shocked to discover his bulge was on display for everyone to see at the Republican National Committee's midterm convention.
A photo of the left-wing political commentator posing in his underwear was shown on a more than 25-foot-tall display screen in front of a convention center full of conservative politicians in Dallas, Texas, on Sept. 9.
Piker reacted to the RNC using his nearly nude selfie on opening day of the convention while watching footage of the event on a livestream.

The Bob Chesney Era is off and running for the UCLA Bruins. The Bruins outlasted the Cal Bears Saturday night, picking up a 45-24 victory to move to 1-0 on the 2026 season.
It was a hard-fought win to begin Chesney's tenure, as Cal and quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele battled late into Saturday night but UCLA's defense got three turnovers and three sacks in the win.
The UCLA offense shined too. Aside from a red zone interception by Nico Iamaleava, Dean Kennedy's offense shined. UCLA rushed for 279 yards with James Madison transfer Wayne Knight looking like a star, and finding the end zone three times in his UCLA debut.
It was a balanced rushing attack, with the Bruins' offensive line winning up front, creating holes on the ground for Knight, Anthony Woods, Jaivian Thomas and Iamaleava on the ground. While Knight found the end zone three times, Woods scored twice and totaled 118 yards on only eight carries. As a team, UCLA averaged 9.0 yards per carry.
UCLA left meat on the bone late in the first half, as an Iamaleava interception led to a Cal touchdown but that didn't instill fear in the offense, as Iamaleava found Matthews for a deep pass to set up a last-second field goal to give the Bruins a 24-17 halftime lead.

The Campbell's Company (NASDAQ:CPB), a branded packaged foods provider, closed at $22.13, down 6.96%. Thursday's sell-off followed weaker fiscal fourth-quarter profitability, a sales miss, and a dividend reduction.
Trading volume reached 37.4 million shares, coming in about 343% above its three-month average of 8.4 million shares.
The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) rose 1.07% to 7,748, and the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) gained 1.40% to 26,584. Among packaged-food rivals, Kraft Heinz (NASDAQ:KHC) closed at $25.42, down 3.20%, while General Mills (NYSE:GIS) ended at $39.26, down 3.25%, underscoring pressure across packaged foods and meats, as well as branded shelf-stable foods and beverages.
Income investors already owning the stock will be disappointed with what they heard from Campbell's today. A 36% dividend cut was announced as part of a plan for the food company to shore up its balance sheet amid inflationary pressures and dropping sales. The company is also implementing a new $500 million cost-savings plan through 2030.
The new $0.25 quarterly dividend still provides a relatively high annual yield of 4.5%, making shares a potential buy for those seeking income. That doesn't help existing shareholders, though, who now face a lower dividend payment on top of a 20% year-to-date decline in the shares.
If the company's turnaround plan is successful, though, new money in the stock with many popular brands could prove to beat the market over the long term.

Hilton Food had one messy half, but investors liked the main course. Seafood dragged, vegan food got shown the door, and the profit outlook still moved higher.
Hilton Food Group shares surged more than 13% after the UK food processing and packing group raised its full-year adjusted profit guidance following a better-than-expected first half.
For the 26 weeks to June 28, revenue rose 15.3% to £2.3 billion (about $2.7 billion), while total volumes increased 2.1%. On a constant-currency basis, revenue was up 11.5%.
Adjusted profit before tax from continuing operations fell 5.2% to £32.8 million, but still came in ahead of expectations. The core meat and fresh prepared foods businesses performed well, offsetting weaker seafood results.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani drew ire from conservatives on Tuesday for mourning the death of a man who was awaiting trial on murder charges.
"I am deeply saddened by the death of a New Yorker in City custody at a jail on Rikers Island early this morning," Mamdani posted on X.
Clarence Woodward, the man Mamdani was referencing, was arrested in 2024 and charged with murder, manslaughter and ******* ault in connection with an unprovoked meat cleaver attack at a Bronx laundromat. At the time, Woodward had 27 prior arrests and had received parole just a month prior to the alleged killing. Woodward had pleaded not guilty to the charges and had not been convicted.
"My thoughts are with his family and loved ones as they grieve this loss. We do not yet know the cause of death, but we do know that too many New Yorkers have died on Rikers Island. The Department of Correction and its oversight partners will investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. Our administration is fully committed to the critical work of creating better conditions in our city's jail system and closing Rikers Island as quickly as possible."

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" star Tim Curry has died aged 80.
The Cheshire-born actor, known for playing transvestite alien scientist Dr Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 musical film, died at his Los Angeles home, according to his long-time manager and friend Marcia Hurwitz.
A cause of death was not confirmed, however, it comes after Curry suffered a major stroke in 2012, leaving his left side paralysed.
Curry's versatile career spanned stage and screen with notable film credits including as Pennywise in "It" (1990), the concierge in "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" (1992) and Long John Silver in "Muppet Treasure Island" (1996).
He originated the "sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania" character on stage in London before taking the show to Broadway, and then reprising the role in the film which also starred Susan Sarandon, Meat Loaf and Barry Bostwick.

Beyond Meat (BYND) investors are entering a critical new chapter after the company completed its 1-for-30 reverse stock split, with split-adjusted trading beginning Aug. 14. The move was primarily aimed at helping the plant-based meat maker regain compliance with Nasdaq's $1 minimum bid-price requirement after a prolonged slide in its stock. JJ Bleday leaned out and turned on a Zack Littell meatball in the Top of the 6th inning of Saturday night's game between the Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks down in the Land of the Endless Strip Mall, and the laser flew over the fence in right field at Chase Field for a homer.
That's cool in a nutshell. What made it even more special, though, is that the Cincinnati outfielder had already picked up a single, double, and triple on the evening, and this homer game him the cycle.
The cycle – just the 8th in the long, storied history of the Cincinnati Reds – was a marked change from where Bleday's form has been so far in August. Despite scorching the earth with his play in May after being recalled from AAA Louisville, he's fallen into something of a three true outcomes slugger ever since, with the hits and homers being much fewer and more far between.
Not so on Saturday, though.
Bleday's homer played pile-on for the Reds, who held an 8-2 lead at the time. Each of JJ, Elly De La Cruz, and Sal Stewart had been electric at the plate so far on the day, and that's pretty much the lone recipe for the Reds having success on any given night.

During The Breakfast Club on Monday (Aug. 17), DJ Envy had Charlamagne Tha God cracking up after he revealed what his son, Logan, said to Jalen Brunson's father, Rick, at a recent birthday party for Fat Joe at Radio City Music Hall.

Brunson became an NBA Champion for the first time this year when he helped the New York Knicks win the NBA Finals, where he also picked up the award for NBA Finals MVP. Needless to say, the New Jersey-born NBA star has become an NYC hero thanks to his performance with the team this year, so as Envy pointed out, he was getting a lot of attention at the party and plenty of people were asking to get him a drink.

Fox News's Tomi Lahren is giving "Twitter beef" a whole new meaning.
Taking to X on Friday morning, Lahren chided President Donald Trump over his new plan — announced hours earlier — to temporarily lift certain tariffs on ground beef imports.
"You know what won't help American ranchers?" she asked. "Importing a bunch of foreign beef."
In a follow-up post, she wrote:
If this is the plan the VERY LEAST that can be done is mandatory country of origin labeling so consumers know where the beef they're buying is coming from. German baseball player Max Kepler, who was suspended by the MLB for 80 games in January after a positive doping test, has suggested that contaminated meat could have caused his result.
The 33-year-old from Berlin has only been allowed to play in the top North American league again since the end of June.
"The substance was in my sample. I have no idea how it got in there, but I am responsible for it," former Minnesota Twins star Kepler said in an interview with broadcaster Sport1.
He tested positive for epitrenbolone, which is an anabolic steroid found in products sold in bodybuilding shops. But it is also used to promote growth when breeding cattle.
"Our theory ... was contaminated red meat. Because there have been cases in the past that were also won. In those cases, a meat source was found in restaurants that athletes ate at and that contained steroids," Kepler said.

There is no fresh operating announcement from Beyond Meat driving today's move. The mechanics of the reverse split haven't changed the demand picture for the shares, and continued selling in the first sessions after a reverse split is a familiar pattern.

The Brewers poured it on the Mariners tonight with 22 hits and 22 runs in a game that became a laugher late. But even discounting the nine runs that Milwaukee scored off of a position player, the offense showed real, positive signs against Mariners starter Bryce Miller and a series of ineffective relievers. On the other side of the ball, Kyle Harrison kept the Mariners off the board for five innings and the bullpen kept it going. What resulted was a historic night: the Brewers matched the largest margin of victory in a shutout in the last 126 years.
Brendan Donovan, the first batter against Harrison tonight, smacked a ball to the base of the wall in the right-field gap for a leadoff double. But Harrison locked in, and even with a wild pitch that advanced Donovan to third, Harrison got managed a scoreless inning with a strikeout, a ground ball to second with a drawn-in infield, and another strikeout. (William Contreras, unfortunately, burned a challenge on a 2-0 pitch with two outs that was almost three inches off the plate, putting Milwaukee behind the eight ball early in that respect.)
The Brewers got some good swings on Miller in the bottom of the first. Brice Turang, playing for the first time since last Wednesday, hit a solid line drive to left but it was caught by Randy Arozarena. Jackson Chourio nearly went yard; he hit one 102 mph and 402 feet to center, but Julio Rodríguez caught it on a leap at the wall. It wasn't quite a home run robbery, but it kind of looked like it on TV. Jake Bauers was next, and he ripped a double into the right-field corner, just barely beating out Victor Robles' throw at second. Three pitches later, William Contreras blooped a soft line drive just over shortstop. Bauers looked like dead meat at the plate—Arozarena's throw beat him by a mile—but when Raleigh put a tag on the sliding Bauers, the ball was knocked loose. Bauers hadn't touched the plate and didn't immediately catch that Raleigh didn't have the ball, but he realized in time to just beat the scrambling Mariner catcher back to home plate. Christian Yelich struck out to end the inning but the Brewers had an early lead.

The Athletics' blew another late lead on Tuesday night in Kansas City, allowing three runs in the bottom of the ninth to let an easy win slip right through their fingers. This one hurt.
Facing Kansas City left-hander Daniel Lynch IV tonight, the A's got to work right away against the reliever-turned-starter. Zack Gelof drew a one-out walk to spark the first-inning rally and was immediately followed by a Jeff McNeil single and another walk to Jonah Heim. That loaded the bases and brought up rookie infielder Tommy White. A productive out would have been fine but the A's ideally needed a hit, and White delivered with a base knock to left field to drive home one:
McNeil got a bit greedy behind Gelof trying to score and was gunned down at the plate. That took the air out of the rally and the A's would ultimately only come away with one. Felt like they left some meat on the bone there.
That one run was enough for the Athletics' pitching early. Righty Jack Perkins was initially slated to start but a late change saw left-hander Brady Basso get the ball for the first couple frames. He had a clean 1-2-3 bottom of the first then allowed one harmless single in the second. Pressing his luck, Mark Kotsay sent Basso back out for the third and Basso allowed another hit but also got one more out before getting pulled for Perkins.
Perkins was just as effective as Basso. He finished the third inning and would end up pitching through the sixth inning. He'd only allow two base runners in his work tonight, looking sharper as the game went on. He ended his night on a massive high, striking out the side in the sixth including an inning-ending punchout of Royals star Bobby Witt Jr.

Pilgrim's Europe has agreed to acquire UK firm Walkers Deli & Sausage Company from Samworth Brothers.
In a statement yesterday (17 August), Pilgrim's Europe, a part of the Pilgrim's Pride business that is majority owned by Brazilian meat giant JBS, described the deal as an "important strategic step".
Pilgrim's Pride, in a separate SEC filing, said its subsidiary Onix Investments UK struck a share purchase agreement to acquire Walkers.
The total consideration is around £141.5m ($191.4m) on a "debt-free, cash-free basis", subject to adjustments, according to the filing.
The deal extends an established relationship between the companies, with Pilgrim's already supplying Walkers with pork.

Just a few days ago, the Pittsburgh Steelers kicked off their 2026 season with an impressively lopsided 28-9 victory over the Green Bay Packers. While we must acknowledge that neither team featured its star players, nor the type of playcalling we can expect once the games start to count for real, it's also hard to introduce yourself to a new fanbase in a more impressive fashion than Mike McCarthy and his staff did on Thursday night.
This is going to be quite a meaty post with several clips to share and examine, so let's not beat around the bush. The following are highlights and lowlights of my impressions from the game. There's going to be a lot of positives we'll look at from this game, so let's start off with a dose of negativity before we wash things down with what went well.
The Steelers offensive line got off to a tough start on Thursday before settling in once both teams' reserves took over. Collectively, the Steelers allowed 10 pressures and 3 sacks in pass protection. Four of those pressures were at the hands of the starting lineup — Troy Fautanu (2), Mason McCormick (1), and Dylan Cook (1) — and a fifth pressure was credited to running back Travis Homer, who started the game with both Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle in street clothes for this game. The rushing attack managed just 2.7 yards per carry. And Fautanu was tagged for both a false start penalty and an offensive holding call.
It certainly wasn't a pristine showing for the unit.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — In the hills above Kabul, Sima searches for things that others have left behind. She walks through cemeteries looking for plastic, scrap and anything else that might have value. What can be sold is gathered and carried away; some of what cannot is brought home and saved as fuel for cooking or winter.
Five years after the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, work is scarce. Sima, who believes she is about 60 but does not know her exact age, helps support her extended family. They survive largely through begging and collecting bread, scrap and recyclable waste.
Little is allowed to go to waste. Bread received from bakeries or other people can be resold cheaply to neighbors. Dry bread collected from the ground is saved and sold to livestock owners. Damaged tomatoes are dried for later, watermelon rinds become torshi, a homemade pickle, and meat received during Eid al-Adha is dried and stored for winter.
These small economies carry risks. Begging and collecting waste have been prohibited by the Taliban, and those caught can be detained. For women such as Sima, finding ways to support their families means navigating an increasingly restricted public life as well as severe poverty. Sima sometimes waits until night to beg, when she feels less exposed on Kabul's streets.
A few months ago, Diba, Sima's daughter, was detained while begging and held for three months. She had a breastfeeding baby at the time, and during her absence the family struggled to provide enough milk and suitable food for the infant. Two days after Diba was released, her baby died.
