It's safe to say Paul Hollywood grew up on staple English foods like sticky toffee pudding, Scotch eggs, jam roly-poly, and beans on toast. And while Americans may think barbecue-less beans with a light tomato-based sauce piled on toast sounds just plain weird, many Brits are similarly perplexed by the idea of a peanut ****** er and jelly sandwich. Hollywood is one such Brit who used to think PB&J seemed like an unusual pairing — until he tried it, that is.
The renowned baker and television personality told Mashed that, while he had been curious about peanut ****** er and jelly sandwiches, having heard about them in movies, he didn't grow up with them and remained skeptical. "I was always like, 'What are you crazy? That doesn't go together,'" he said. He'd had both spreads separately before but only had them together when someone on "The Great British Bake Off" made him a peanut ****** er and jelly sandwich. Hollywood didn't fall in love with the sandwich but dubbed it "all right." At least he can now see the appeal of the beloved sweet-and-savory combination. Perhaps he'd be more fond of Ina Garten's elevated PB&J.

So, peanut ****** er and jelly didn't wow Paul Hollywood. But one sandwich the "Bake Off" judge does love is an egg and cress, another traditional British favorite often served with afternoon tea. The simple sando features creamy egg salad and peppery watercress nestled between slices of soft bread. But there's one thing he thinks his favorite sandwich should have in common with the average American first-grader's PB&J. In a short video shared on Facebook, Hollywood declared that he prefers to upgrade tea sandwiches by cutting the crusts of his bread off. The celebrity chef also mentioned that he enjoys a ham and cheese sandwich on a crusty baguette as well as a steak sandwich with rocket (aka arugula) on focaccia bread.

Revenue and volumes declined: Organic revenue fell 2.9% and volume dropped 5.9%, mainly because retailer disputes caused out-of-stocks and reduced promotions in Germany and France. Nomad said shelves are being replenished and market-share trends are beginning to improve.
Margins benefited from pricing and productivity: Adjusted gross margin expanded 110 basis points, while productivity initiatives offset more than 60% of inflation year to date. However, adjusted EBITDA declined 4.3% and adjusted EPS fell slightly to EUR 0.39.
Outlook was largely maintained but EPS was cut: Nomad reaffirmed its full-year revenue and EBITDA decline forecasts but lowered adjusted EPS guidance to EUR 1.38–EUR 1.53 because of higher interest costs following its debt refinancing. The company is prioritizing debt reduction and extended its debt maturities, with no meaningful maturities until 2032.

While concern continues to rise about the cost of groceries, another major issue is quietly cropping up in your neighborhood: local grocery stores closing.
During its June 2025 earnings call, Kroger announced that it would shutter 60 locations over the next 18 months, citing underperformance. The closures also affect other brands under the company umbrella, including Fred Meyer, Fry's Food and Drug, Harris Teeter, Foods Co, Food 4 Less, King Soopers, Mariano's, Pick 'n Save, and QFC.
Many consumers struggling with higher food costs have turned to discount grocery stores for relief, but those are also winking out of sight in some areas. Aldi is another chain closing stores in 2026, with locations shuttering in Minnesota, Illinois, Texas, and Wisconsin. While the chain has plans to expand up to 3,200 locations by 2028, it needs to cut underperforming stores to reach that goal.
Grocery Outlet also falls into the discount category -- and it's also closing stores. The chain announced in March 2026 that it would shutter 36 locations. CEO Jason Potter said that the chain stretched itself too thin with a rapid expansion plan. 24 locations included in the closure are on the east coast, translating into less discount grocery options for many consumers in need of them.
Now, another grocery has announced new closures, some affecting locations that have been open for decades.

Interested in Tenaris S.A.? Here are five stocks we like better.
Second-quarter performance weakened as sales fell 4% to $3 billion and EBITDA declined 12% sequentially to $649 million, pressured by Strait of Hormuz shipping disruptions, lower fixed-cost absorption, and higher raw-material and logistics costs.
Tenaris approved a higher interim dividend of $0.59 per share ($1.18 per ADR), totaling about $600 million, supported by $396 million in quarterly free cash flow and $3.6 billion in net cash.
Management expects second-half revenue and EBITDA to be roughly in line with the first half, while potential upside could come from resumed Gulf shipments, stronger fourth-quarter volumes and pricing, rising North American drilling activity, and an expanding offshore project backlog.

The most talked about and market moving research calls around Wall Street are now in one place. Here are today's research calls that investors need to know, as compiled by The Fly.

Top 5 Upgrades:
Deutsche Bank upgraded Palantir (PLTR) to Buy from Hold with an unchanged price target of $200. The firm views the company's Q2 report as "exceptional."
Oppenheimer upgraded Inspire Medical (INSP) to Outperform from Perform with an $85 price target. The firm notes the company's Q2 revenues of $201M slightly outpaced estimates, and argues that at these levels, there is "noisy" value to the story as a mid to high single digit grower.
UBS upgraded BBB Foods (TBBB) to Buy from Neutral with a price target of $51, up from $43. The company has delivered same-store-sales well ahead of inflation and its business benefits from consumers seeking value, the firm tells investors in a research note.
Leerink upgraded Replimune (REPL) to Outperform from Market Perform with a price target of $17, up from $11. The firm has "high conviction" the FDA will grant RP-1 plus nivolumab accelerated approval.

Zohran Mamdani stormed into office brandishing the banner of "affordability," and almost singlehandedly pushed the issue to the center of today's political debate. Of all the charismatic, 34-year-old Mayor's initiatives aimed at lowering living costs, the one that's garnered the most coverage is his proposal to get Gotham into the grocery business.
The city-owned food store initiative looks so radical, even for this avowed democratic socialist, because it puts a city in direct competition versus an immense, entrenched private industry. On his other big "affordability" initiatives, providing free bus service and freezing rent on one million apartments, Mamdani's simply using his regulatory and budget powers in the Democratic mayors' traditional vein of tightening price controls on housing and delivering more freebees
This one's different: It's extraordinarily rare for a municipality to challenge local businesses by starting its own enterprises that aim to do the same thing. The only major example: city-backed companies that battle the Verizons and Comcasts to supply broadband. They're all either struggling, or already flopped. Mamdani's predecessor Eric Adams shuttered the $2 billion fiber-optic buildout started a few years earlier under Mayor Bill de Blasio. As for supermarkets, Chicago last year killed plans for a city-owned emporium as impractical. Kansas City, apparently the only major metro ever to open a taxpayer-funded supermarket, ended the failed foray in early 2025.
Hence, Mamdani's plan would probably reign as the biggest push any city's ever made to launch its own business amid a galaxy of private players. The Mayor's identified a big problem. New Yorkers indeed suffer from extremely high prices for everything from chicken to eggs to milk. The city's riddled with "food desert" neighborhoods where residents often can't find much other than processed items nearby, and must travel 20 minutes or more to reach outlets that offer wide choices of fresh foods at low cost.
But that drastic shortage in the metro that ranks among the world's wealthiest is almost totally self-inflicted. Contrary to Mamdani's claim that "the private market alone has not delivered affordable, full-service grocery options," here's the real rub: A web of antiquated regulations—and one in particular that effectively bans big stores where they're needed most—is blocking major chains from deploying billions of their own capital to open far more of the kinds of giant extravaganzas featuring baseball-field length stretches of checkout lanes that bring far lower stickers to the suburbs just beyond Gotham's borders.

A major scientific review is challenging the idea that more protein is always better.
The review, led by pathologist and biomedical researcher Dudley Lamming and published in the journal Cell Press Blue, examined more than 350 studies involving humans, mice, insects, yeast, and other organisms.
The review found that eating less protein, or less of certain amino acids that make up protein, may turn on body processes linked to healthier aging, as well as metabolism, the process by which the body turns food and drinks into energy.

Protein is now added to lattes, cereal, chips, ramen, and many other foods that were never traditionally marketed as protein-rich. The message seems clear: More protein must be better.

In the cold chain world, every box of frozen food that lands on a doorstep carries a cost decision made days earlier. One example: five pounds of dry ice, or 15? Undershoot and the product arrives thawed. Overshoot and the brand pays to move weight it never needed.
That calculation, repeated across millions of orders, is the business Grip built. The Miami-based cold chain fulfillment company is now handing its national operation to a 40-year veteran of frozen and refrigerated distribution.
Grip said Tuesday that John Hummel will join as president of Grip Fulfillment, leading the company's national fulfillment operations. For the e-commerce brands that rely on Grip to move pet food, prepared meals and grocery orders, the hire brings proven experience. It's a high-stakes industry: a shipping decision that misses by either too few pounds of refrigerant or a single day in transit eats margin or may even destroy the product.
Hummel served as president of Burris Logistics' Custom Distribution division, where he oversaw five frozen and refrigerated distribution centers and eight direct-to-consumer fulfillment facilities. Earlier he was president of United Natural Foods Inc.'s Central/Southeast Region, running eight distribution centers with more than $6 billion in annual sales. Before that he led operations for 31 distribution centers at Reinhart Foodservice as the company grew from $2 billion to $7 billion.
"I've known Juan since his ButcherBox days, and I've followed Grip's journey ever since," Hummel said. "Joining the team to lead its fulfillment operation is an incredible opportunity."

I've long been obsessed with the idea that there is an important connection between your gut and your brain, and now there's science to confirm that nutrition can help treat many diseases.
Dr. Trisha Pasricha is a double board-certified internal medicine physician and gastroenterologist. She's the head of the Gut-Brain Institute and an ******* istant professor at Harvard Medical School. And you may know her from The Washington Post, where she's the "Ask a Doctor" columnist.
"I think the reframe that really helps is if you stop thinking about your gut as plumbing, you think about it as a brain," Pasricha told me in the newest episode of "Healthful."
We covered everything from what to do if you get a cyclospora infection to why eating fewer ultra-processed foods can prevent dementia. Here's what I learned from our conversation — watch it on YouTube and listen wherever you get your podcasts:
Researchers have made significant progress in finding early symptoms of Parkinson's disease that could show up decades before motor symptoms. Pasricha explained the "first-gut theory" of Parkinson's disease, which is that experts believe some cases of Parkinson's originate in the gut, not the brain.

The Firm remains optimistic about value stocks, citing their attractive valuations and strong free cash flow generation. In addition, please check the Strategy's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.

Britain's oldest sugar factory is to close because of sky-high energy costs.
The site at Cantley, in Norfolk, was the first sugar-processing factory to open in the UK and has been operating since 1912.
More than 100 people face losing their jobs as part of the closure. The shutdown of the plant, which is operated by British Sugar, could come as early as February 2027.
The beet-processing factory produces 130,000 tonnes of sugar per year and its closure would leave Britain needing to import more sugar from places such as Brazil.
British Sugar, part of Primark-owner ******* ociated British Foods, blamed the closure on soaring energy prices.

Trading volume reached 60.6 million shares, coming in about 2,000% above its three-month average of 2.9 million shares. Utz Brands IPO'd in 2018 and has grown 46% since going public.
The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) closed at 7,509, up 0.89%, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) finished at 25,837, up 1.29%. In packaged food — savory snack foods and salty snack manufacturing, The Campbell's Company (NASDAQ:CPB) closed at $22.34, up 1.13%, while Mondelez International (NASDAQ:MDLZ) closed at $59.86, down 0.68%, as investors weighed the Utz take-private deal against broader snack-category trading.
Utz shares soared after the company announced an all-cash buyout by Germany's Intersnack Group. The $14.25 per share buyout price represented a 91% premium over yesterday's closing price.
While it may be too late to benefit directly from the Utz buyout, it provides an important lesson investors can learn from.
Utz went public nearly six years ago at $10 per share. It's been a tough ride for shareholders since then, but there have been recent positive signs, with adjusted free cash flow improving in Q1 and guidance suggesting it should continue.

Cracker Barrel has sold its Maple Street Biscuit Company brand and 35 restaurants to Biscuit Belly, LLC and will close 16 locations of the fast casual breakfast chain.
The move comes less than a year after Cracker Barrel closed 14 Maple Street locations in September 2025 because they "simply didn't meet our financial expectations," the company told USA TODAY in a statement at the time, while thanking customers for their patronage.
Cracker Barrel acquired Maple Street Biscuit Company in 2019 for $36 million. The breakfast chain was founded in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2012, and serves a variety of biscuits and other breakfast foods. At the time of the acquisition, Maple Street had 28 company-owned locations and five franchised locations across seven states.
In a separate move, Cracker Barrel also completed a sale-leaseback deal involving 26 company-owned locations. That means Cracker Barrel sold the locations to an investor and immediately leased them back. Cracker Barrel said these transactions will generate approximately $77 million in net proceeds.

Madison Small Cap Fund, managed by Madison Funds, released its Q2 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The small-cap market showed exceptional strength in Q2, largely due to anticipated peace in the Middle East. Round 3 of the Great American Tailgate challenge is underway, and Bills Mafia has once again delivered a commanding performance. Buffalo wings advanced with one of the widest margins of Round 2, reaffirming their status as one of the most recognizable and beloved tailgate foods in the country.

(NEXSTAR) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed more than 800 cases of cyclosporiasis, a gastrointestinal illness that causes extreme diarrhea, across more than half of U.S. states. The grand total appears set to continue climbing as the agency is investigating more than 1,500 likely new cases.
The illness is cause by the cyclospora parasite, which enters the body through contaminated produce. If you're unlucky enough to ingest it, you may get stuck with weeks of watery diarrhea as well as "frequent and sometimes explosive bowel movements," according to the CDC.
The exact source of this massive outbreak isn't yet known, but in the past cyclospora has largely been found on fresh fruits and vegetables that were contaminated by irrigation water tainted with feces.
Map: Cases of 'explosive' diarrhea illness continue to climb
Historically, the most commonly contaminated foods were raspberries, basil, cilantro, green onions, snow peas, lettuce, mesclun and salad mixes. A study reviewing outbreaks since the 1990s found cyclospora may also have contaminated blackberries, watercress, mango, and vegetable trays.

FactoryTalk Orchestration software is part of Rockwell Automation's push to connect automated equipment with enterprise and plant systems to coordinate operations. Its edge stems from its ability to standardize connectivity across the portfolio. Its development aims to capitalize on manufacturers seeking automation and robotics solutions that can coordinate operations.
Therefore, Rockwell Automation expects FactoryTalk Orchestration software to help manufacturers move from fragmented automation toward a more connected, autonomous operation. By unifying operations, manufacturers will enjoy improved throughput, reduce bottlenecks, and respond faster to disruptions and changing demand.
Meanwhile, Britain's Cranswick Plc, a leading manufacturer of premium gourmet foods, has commissioned Rockwell Automation's Autonox robotics to enable end-of-line pick-and-place. The system is designed to enable automated packaging and, therefore, support more connected production lines.
