The recent entry of Elon Musk's ***** eX (SPCX) into public markets has garnered investment interest on Capitol Hill, with half a dozen lawmakers taking stakes in the company, according to recently disclosed transactions.
The first apparent purchase was made by Rep. Lisa McClain, a Republican and member of House Speaker Mike Johnson's leadership team. Her husband purchased between $100,000 and $250,000 in Musk's xAI in December 2025, before it was folded into ***** eX in February, giving the lawmaker and her family early exposure to the public debut on June 12.
SpaceX's initial public offering then saw five more lawmakers make purchases, according to the disclosures.
Rep. John James, a Michigan Republican, was first in, as his wife Liz bought between $15,000 and $50,000 worth of stock on the day of the IPO.
A spokesperson for the congressman told Yahoo Finance that "the James children are excited about ***** e exploration and Liz purchased stock for them through a brokerage firm, like other members of the public were welcome to do."

Columbia Threadneedle Investments, an investment management company, released its "Columbia Seligman Global Technology Fund" second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. During the quarter, the Fund's Institutional Class shares returned 50.34%, outperforming the MSCI World Information Technology Index's 33.65% gain. Stock selection in semiconductors, technology hardware and software, together with an off-benchmark electrical equipment allocation, supported relative performance, while exposure to financials, consumer discretionary and healthcare detracted. Technology stocks rallied as concerns over the Iran conflict eased and AI infrastructure spending boosted demand for semiconductors, memory, networking, servers and power solutions. The Fund expects AI and data-centre investment to remain strong, supported by broadening earnings growth and improving software bookings, cloud consumption and customer spending. However, geopolitical uncertainty, higher interest rates and heavy AI investment could pressure valuations and free cash flow. The strategy holds 50–75 technology companies across market capitalisations and uses bottom-up GARP research to identify misunderstood and undervalued businesses in the technology industry. In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Columbia Seligman Global Technology Fund highlighted Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC). Columbia Seligman Global Technology Fund stated the following regarding Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"The position in Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) was a key contributor as the fund maintained an overweight allocation to the name, and the stock continued an outstanding six-quarter run with its share price more than doubling during the quarter. The rally in the stock was a continuation of demand for high-capacity hard drives and the expectation that tighter industry supply discipline should support better pricing and profitability."

"The fund continued to hold an off-benchmark position in Bloom Energy Corporation (NYSE:BE). The company manufactures and markets solid-oxide fuel cells that produce electricity and can provide an alternative source of energy compared to traditional supply. Data-center operators have increasingly turned to Bloom's solid-oxide fuel cells to bypass grid constraints and power energy-intensive AI workloads. The admitted murderer Bryan Kohberger plans to file for post-conviction relief after pleading guilty to killing four University of Idaho students in a 4 a.m. home invasion attack, according to court records.
Kohberger plans to argue that he had bad counsel. Court records show he filed a petition for post-conviction relief Monday.
Kohberger, in his handwritten petition, claims that he was "convinced to falsely confess," claiming his high-profile defense team of Anne Taylor, Elisa Massoth and Bicka Barlow didn't tell him about "exculpatory discovery" — evidence mentioned in the recent "Broken Plea" book but never vetted in court.
Read the filing here:
The New York Times was first to report this story after Kohberger called a reporter directly and claimed that he has an "absolute claim of innocence" in his first public remarks outside the courtroom.

The European Union has joined the Union of European Football ***** ociations (UEFA) in criticising FIFA's controversial plan to launch a new commercial company with external investment to sell a stake in the World Cup.
"The relentless commercialisation of football has become corrosive," EU Commissioner for Sport Glenn Micallef wrote on X on Wednesday. He added that a possible alignment of FIFA's regulatory powers with the financial interests of private entities is a concern for the European Commission.
FIFA announced on Tuesday it plans to create a $20 billion (around €17.6 billion) subsidiary to run the World Cup and other events, offering stakes of up to 20% to external investors. This would give FIFA members the chance "to access up to $20 million in one-off capital," according to the statement on the plan.
The move provoked a furious response from UEFA, which accused the football governing body of putting the game's "soul" up for sale.
"The European Commission will study these proposals carefully," Micallef said in response to the announcement, flagging that under EU treaties sporting rules are subject to EU law where they may have an impact on the European economy.

The Indiana Fever defeated the Seattle Storm 105-95 on Tuesday night in the first night of regular-season action for the WNBA after the All-Star break. However, instead of the Fever's three-game winning streak entering the game, a lot of the coverage surrounding the Fever was on comments reserve guard Sophie Cunningham made regarding transgender athletes.
"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" Cunningham said via a profile on her published by ESPN. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."
Cunningham's words became a hot-topic issue, with people weighing in from all over the media, intense debates being had online, and even rallies being planned.
After the game, WNBA reporter Roberta Rodrigues, who rebuked Cunningham's comments and the rally tied to them on social media, asked head coach Stephanie White, who is married to journalist Lisa Salters, about the situation.
"Coach, there was a rally before the game, an anti-trans rally before the game, inspired by Sophie Cunningham," Rodrigues started. "As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, how did you receive her comments and the way it ignited the right-wing and anti-trans supporters? And for the players, have you had conversations in the locker room about it?"

After the commercial success of the World Cup, MLS is seeing dollar signs.
Ticket sales have boomed since the final on 19 July, when Lionel Messi's Argentina were vanquished by Spain. For FIFA, Messi and Argentina getting to the final in New Jersey was the optimal outcome – it sustained casual fans' interest for the duration of the tournament and kept the get-in price sky-high.
In Europe and South America, there has been a monumental backlash to the overt commercialisation of the World Cup.
Indeed, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino having crossed the Rubicon and now looking to sell a stake in FIFA itself, the 2026 World Cup might be remembered as the start of a great schism in the sport.
But for Major League Soccer, whose outgoing president of 27 years Don Garber thinks the league can topple the English Premier League as soccer's most commercially valuable, the summer of 2026 cannot be seen as anything but an unbridled success.

So far, Manchester United have signed a back-up goalkeeper, two midfielders and a young forward this summer, but former Red Devils defender Danny Simpson says they need fresh blood in another position.
"Lisandro Martinez is injured, Matthijs de Ligt gets injured a lot and Harry Maguire is 33 now, so I think we could do with a centre-back," Simpson told BBC Radio Manchester.
United currently have a wealth of experience in the centre-back department with Martinez, De Ligt and Maguire, but injuries halted their playing time together last season.
It is not yet known if Martinez will be ruled out of the start of the domestic campaign with the injury he picked up during Argentina's World Cup final defeat by Spain.
De Ligt last featured for United in November 2025 under Ruben Amorim.

The recent entry of Elon Musk's ******* eX (SPCX) into public markets has garnered investment interest on Capitol Hill, with half a dozen lawmakers taking stakes in the company, according to recently disclosed transactions.
The first apparent purchase came from Rep. Lisa McClain, a Republican and member of House Speaker Mike Johnson's leadership team. Her husband purchased between $100,000 and $250,000 in Musk's xAI in December 2025, before it was folded into ******* eX in February, giving the lawmaker and her family early exposure to the public debut on June 12.
SpaceX's initial public offering then saw five more lawmakers make purchases, according to the disclosures.
Rep. John James, a Michigan Republican, was first in as his wife bought between $15,000 and $50,000 worth of stock on the day of the IPO.
Three more GOP lawmakers — Rep. Daniel Meuser of Pennsylvania, William Timmons of South Carolina, and John McGuire of Virginia — obtained shares three days later.

If your portfolio has been riding the same cluster of mega-cap technology stocks since 2023, Morgan Stanley has a timely warning.
The S&P 500climbed about 20% from its April low to a record high near 7,620 on June 2, fueled by optimism over the U.S.–Iran ceasefire and persistent enthusiasm for artificial intelligence.
Since then, the benchmark has stalled, closing near 7,457 on July 17 and struggling to gain traction despite strong corporate earnings.
Giant stocks are pulling in opposite directions, and those offsetting moves are keeping the broader market locked in place.
Morgan Stanley Wealth Management chief investment officer Lisa Shalett laid out those dynamics in her July Global Investment Committee presentation.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup came to an end on Sunday with Spain reclaiming the ***** le. They won a gritty matchup against Argentina with a 1-0 victory after extra time, and the physicality in the contest led to the early departure of Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez.
The “Butcher” picked up the injury playing his game, an aggressive and fearless approach to defending that sees him cover a lot of ground and make a lot of crunching tackles. His efforts have made him a fan favorite at Old Trafford as one of the few transfer hits from the Erik ten Hag era. His tenure at Old Trafford has not come without ***** ps and bruises, though, and his absences with ***** ps and bruises have kept him from playing his best for extended stretches.
With his injury, even expected to be minor, there is some concern over Manchester United’s depth at the position. Matthijs De Ligt in particular was one fans were worried about after a lengthy absence and operation to fix a back injury. He is expected back in October, but has already had some injury problems hinder his career to this point. He and Martinez both missed a lot of time last season due to injury.
The notable absences are papered over somewhat by the enduring presence of Harry Maguire, who somehow rediscovered the confidence and ability that made him one of the club’s most expensive signings in 2019. He too has had his share of knocks and absences, though, and is turning 34 next March.
The presence of Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven also papered over them. In fact, the immediate answer to the center back depth questions is this: That’s what Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven are there for. That isn’t an answer that inspires a ton of confidence given the club experienced the reality of multiple injuries shattering the defensive unit in the last two seasons. But if the club is betting on a return to full health for De Ligt and a swift return for Martinez, there isn’t a pressing need for a center back.

Real Madrid also got a share of the glory as Spain won the FIFA World Cup 2026, as one of their players, Marc Cucurella, was also present in the winning side. The Merengue club had signed the fullback just before the start of the top international competition, and he remained a key part of Luis de la Fuente's team throughout the tournament.
Other established Los Blancos stars also had a good World Cup, as they shone for their respective national teams. This is especially true for Kylian Mbappe, who remained the leader of France's attack, and won the Golden Boot with his 10 goals in the competition. Similarly, Jude Bellingham also starred for England, scoring 7 goals for the Three Lions.
As Diario AS has reported, all of these three players have been named in the FIFA World Cup Best XI, a starting lineup of the best players in the competition selected by fans' votes. The full list of players selected is as follows:
Goalkeeper: Vozinha (Cape Verde)
Defenders: Porro (Spain), Lisandro (Argentina), Upamecano (France), Cucurella (Spain)

ESPN and the rest of the sports media industry were left reeling Tuesday as the Mothership ejected approximately 10 on-air talents, while pink-slipping a large contingent of behind-the-scenes staffers at NFL Network.
After speaking with multiple sources, here are my five takeaways from the layoffs, which included ESPN dropping talents such as Ryan Clark, Karl Ravech, David Lloyd, Tom Pelissero, Cam Newton, and Bart Scott:
Chairman Jimmy Pitaro made it clear that ESPN's biggest round of layoffs in three years was tied directly to Disney's acquisition of NFL Network. Anytime two companies merge, the bean counters look at who's doing what. When they find two people doing the same job—or close to it—one goes out the door.

That's what's happening as ESPN absorbs a network it competed with for over 20 years. ESPN has made "significant progress" integrating NFLN, Pitaro wrote in an internal memo obtained by Front Office Sports. But as always with mergers, it "had to make some difficult decisions," added Pitaro.
ESPN will broadcast its first-ever Super Bowl from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Feb. 14, 2027. Televising a Super Bowl has been a corporate dream of ESPN's since its founding as a scrappy wannabe in 1979. ESPN management and parent company Disney are laser-focused on creating the best, most thorough Super Bowl coverage ever. Anybody on-air during what ESPN is humbly calling its "Year of the Super Bowl" will go down in company history. The competition for those choice on-air slots will be brutal.
The game announce team of Troy Aikman, Joe Buck, Lisa Salters, and Laura Rutledge are locks. Ditto for Sunday NFL Countdown regulars Mike Greenberg, Rex Ryan, Randy Moss, Alex Smith, Tedy Bruschi and Adam Schefter. And look for legendary anchor Chris Berman to play a major role as the living embodiment of ESPN's 47-year history.

The letter discusses the current investment environment as a 'two-speed' but resilient global economy, accompanied by an uncertain future. The letter explores the potential of an AI bubble, distinguishing between strong fundamentals and speculative momentum. Additionally, the market displays a 'narrow' character, marked by high exuberance and ***** ounced over-pessimism. Against this backdrop, the Fund returned +2.6% (net of fees) during the June 2026 quarter, compared to the benchmark return of +12.5% (all in A$). The underperformance was driven more by which investments were not held in the Fund. The Fund remains focused on quality, valuation and the avoidance of permanent capital loss, and believes the portfolio is positioned to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns for patient investors. In addition, you can check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, L1 Capital International Fund highlighted NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA). NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is a leading data center-scale AI infrastructure company that operates through Compute & Networking and Graphics segments. On July 17, 2026, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) stock closed at $202.81 per share. One-month return of NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) was -2.80%, and its shares gained 18.34% over the past 52 weeks. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) has a market capitalization of $4.91 trillion.
L1 Capital International Fund stated the following regarding NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"During the June 2026 Quarter the Fund's investment in NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) was increased. This reflects our view that AI is rapidly becoming more capable and AI capital expenditure will be stronger for longer. Nvidia is now a top 5 holding. It is the world's largest company by market capitalisation, so is hardly unknown. We have followed Nvidia for many years, but our first investment in the company was slightly less than 12 months ago. At that time, we explained that we had materially underestimated the growth in AI, the size of the addressable market, and Nvidia's ***** ociated growth and profitability.
Since then, Nvidia's financial performance has gone from strength to strength, and our earnings and cash flow expectations for Nvidia for the next few years have almost doubled. Yet the share price has 'only' increased around 15% since our initial investment. This has been reflected in a material derating of Nvidia's near term trading multiples. Market commentators are generally not concerned about Nvidia's short term earnings prospects. Key concerns are focused on longer term loss of market share, and questions over management's allocation of Nvidia's immense free cash flow. We do expect Nvidia will lose share wi

L1 Capital, an investment management firm, released its "L1 Long Short Fund" second-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The market's main themes in the June quarter were the Iran conflict and developments in the AI sector. These trends shifted after oil prices declined due to a ceasefire agreement, leading to a reversal. AI stocks surged, driven by strong earnings, rapid capital investment, and critical supply shortages. During this period, the L1 Long Short Fund achieved notable gains, rising 12.7% compared to the ASX200AI's 4.0%, with year-to-date returns at 12.5% versus 2.4%. U.S. equities outperformed, especially those benefiting from AI-related capital expenditure. The firm is satisfied with the portfolio's positioning, emphasizing strong medium-term growth potential, supported by attractive valuations, solid earnings, and robust cash flow. In addition, you can check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, L1 Long Short Fund highlighted James Hardie Industries plc (NYSE:JHX). Based in Dublin, Ireland, James Hardie Industries plc (NYSE:JHX) is a building materials company that manufactures and supplies fiber cement, fiber gypsum, and cement-bonded building products. On July 17, 2026, James Hardie Industries plc (NYSE:JHX) closed at $25.82 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $14.98 billion. James Hardie Industries plc (NYSE:JHX) posted a one-month return of 5.34%, while its shares lost 1.64% over the past 52 weeks.
L1 Long Short Fund stated the following regarding James Hardie Industries plc (NYSE:JHX) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"James Hardie Industries plc (NYSE:JHX) (+46%) shares recovered over the quarter following easing Middle East tensions and on management's release of a constructive FY27 outlook, which included a pathway to return the core North American fibre cement business to volume growth, despite a subdued U.S. housing market. We expect this volume recovery to be supported by normalisation of channel inventory following the 2025 destocking period, improving execution in repair & remodel / smaller-builder channels, the Trim-Over installation method, competitor exits and continued material conversion from vinyl and wood.
In our view, the market is still applying a discounted multiple to James Hardie to reflect recent execution, governance and housing-cycle concerns. As these issues are progressively addressed, we believe there is scope for both earnings growth and recovery in the valuation multiple over time."
