Former President Obama on Friday slammed President Trump over his handling of how to approach artificial intelligence amid “doomsday” warnings coming from some in the tech industry about the technology’s potential existential threat to humanity.
Obama said during an interview at Colgate University in New York that the federal government must regulate AI, before referring to comments made by one Trump adviser.
“I heard one of Donald Trump’s main advisers on this make the argument that, ‘The market will take care of AI,'” the former president said. “‘These companies will solve the safety issues because they have every incentive to do so — if it turns out to be dangerous, people will just sue them, and they’re worried about financial liability.'”
“That’s not how we treat airlines,” Obama added. “Or drug companies, or food companies.”
Obama continued to say that AI could become a threat at a human level if it falls into the clutches of “bad humans” and if self-improving AI models realize they no longer need humans. He referred to Trump again in that his successor has said regulations on AI are “for losers.”

Nearly 600 people have died in crashes since 2024 with trucks operated by companies that had never been subjected to a roadside safety inspection.

Critics are slamming Norway over new legislation that they say singles out Jews. The proposed law could send individuals to prison for up to three years for knowingly conducting certain forms of business with Israeli communities in the West Bank.
The proposal, introduced by Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, would prohibit the importation of goods originating in Israeli communities in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the exportation of goods to those communities. It would also restrict certain real estate transactions, construction and engineering services and investments in businesses headquartered and operating there.
Intentional violations could result in fines, imprisonment for up to three years or both, while negligent violations could carry fines, imprisonment for up to six months or both, according to Section 7 of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' official consultation document.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray exited the Vikings' win over the Green Bay Packers in the first quarter on Sept. 13 with a concussion after a scary hit from Green Bay safety Javon Bullard.
Murray was sliding at the Vikings 35-yard line nine minutes into the quarter when Bullard and Packers defensive end Lukas Van Ness went to tackle him. Murray took a big hit. Bullard received a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty.
Murray's status isn't certain. He will have to pass concussion protocol before he returns for Minnesota. Carson Wentz replaced Murray at QB for the Vikings.
The Vikings were obviously frustrated with the hit, as was social media, with many slamming the Packers for the incident after the game.
Minnesota rallied from a 22-10 deficit in the third quarter to win 39-22.

What he still does not know is whether he will get to finish it where he wants to finish it: standing on a Major League mound.
Verlander is expected to throw off a mound Saturday as he continues working back from left hip inflammation and a left hamstring strain, according to MLB's latest Tigers injury update. If his body responds, the 43-year-old could advance to a rehab ***** ignment and potentially pitch for Detroit before his retirement becomes official at the end of the season.
That makes Saturday considerably more important than a routine September bullpen session.

The Dodgers on Friday called up phenom Josue De Paula, their top prospect, and placed Shohei Ohtani on the 15-day injured list. Those were the expected moves, and took care of the active-roster component. But to make room on the 40-man roster for De Paula, the Dodgers transferred left-hander Eric Lauer to the 60-day injured list.
Lauer had been on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation since September 2, one day after allowing seven runs in three innings in his worst start since joining the Dodgers. Moving him to the 60-day injured list means Lauer won't be eligible to pitch in the postseason. His 2026 campaign has concluded.
The 31-year-old left-hander was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays on May 17 after Lauer was designated for **** ignment by Toronto, with the Jays paying all but $600,000 of his remaining $3.1 million salary the rest of the way. The Dodgers won each of Lauer's first nine appearances with the team, a stretch in which he did not allow more than three runs in any outing.
Lauer had two blow-up starts — six runs in four innings on August 5 at Wrigley Field, September 1 at home vs. Cardinals — but mostly did everything that was asked of him, lasting at least six innings in seven of his 13 outings, including 11 starts. In all, Lauer had a 4.50 ERA and 4.48 xERA in 72 innings with the Dodgers. Combining his numbers with the Blue Jays, Lauer on the season had a 5.23 ERA and 5.03 xERA in 22 games, including 18 starts, with 72 strikeouts and 35 walks in 108 1/3 innings, with 26 home runs allowed.

According to MLB.com, Hoskins is expected to return "potentially" in September. He's been dealing with lower back inflammation but is reportedly participating in baseball activities and the Guardians are hoping to have him available for the playoffs.
Hoskins, 33, was hitting just .179 with a .682 OPS before landing on the IL. He hit 13 home runs, which is one of the higher marks on the Guardians. In fact, the only Guardians with more long ***** this season are Jo Adell, Nathaniel Lowe, Chase DeLauter and Angel Martinez.

Biopharmaceutical leader Kiniksa Pharmaceuticals (KNSA) is approaching a new buy point in the wake of a strong quarterly sales report. That makes Kiniksa stock Thursday's pick for IBD 50 Growth Stocks To Watch from Investor's Business Daily.
Kiniksa develops and commercializes medicines for cardiovascular, autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases. Its only drug, Arcalyst, treats recurrent pericarditis, a condition in which the sac protecting the heart, the pericardium, becomes inflamed. The risk of recurrence increases with each subsequent flare-up of pericarditis, according to the Arcalyst website.
The company expects to replace Arcalyst with a next-generation version, now called KPL-387, in 2028 or 2029.
While Arcalyst requires a weekly under-the-skin shot, KPL-387 is a monthly injection. KPL-387 sales are expected to start slow at $21.7 million in 2028, growing to $173.7 million, $486.3 million and $1.03 billion over the next three years.
During the second quarter, Arcalyst generated $243.6 million in sales, growing 55% year over year. That crushed estimates from FactSet that called for $227.7 million.

A royal expert has reportedly slammed Prince Harry as a "hitman" and expressed serious reservations about whether he would reconcile with Prince William. For those unversed, Harry and Meghan flew privately from California to Birmingham on August 26. The Sussexes will reportedly stay in the UK for an extended period of time. Multiple reports hinted that they are doing this to get close to the royal family. However, King Charles clarified via an official statement that the Sussexes will remain private individuals.
Royal author Andrew Morton alleged that Prince Harry has broken the royal family's trust. Not only that, he shared that Harry's chances of a reconciliation with Prince William are slim. The author dished to the Daily Express: "I've always argued that William saw, and so did Diana; they saw Harry as his wingman, and now he's turned into a hitman. And that's something which struck me very forcibly."
Morton explained that William is the future heir to the throne, the future king. Meanwhile, Harry is meant to show him support, and everybody in the royal family was counting on that. Unfortunately, the brothers' bond is so strained now that, according to multiple sources, there is no contact.
Furthermore, on the podcast Heirs & Spares, host Kinsey Schofield and Rupert Bell discussed Morton's comment and the impact Harry's seemingly careless behavior had on the royal family. Schofield asked whether the Duke of Sussex realizes how "harmful and hurtful" this is. Bell agreed, saying that William was probably counting on his younger brother's support when he becomes king.

Shohei Ohtani has made a decision about his two-way status for the remainder of the 2026 MLB season, putting an end to all the speculation.
Shohei Ohtani's Cy Young campaign ended much earlier in the season than many expected. During his first year as a two-way star since the 2023 season, the MVP has been bothered by escalating injuries.
Ohtani hasn't pitched for over two months now, he's been dealing with chronic inflammation in his left knee. The Los Angeles Dodgers star has also suffered through bicep, hip, and knee issues.
Dave Roberts' recent words had made it seem fairly clear that Ohtani would likely not be pitching anymore this season. And now the man himself has announced it.
