Polish open-water swimmer Bartlomiej Kubkowski has swum across the Baltic Sea from Sweden to Poland. The 160-kilometre journey took him 55 hours.
The 31-year-old started his swim from Kåseberga in Sweden on Friday. On Sunday evening, he staggered ashore, completely exhausted, in Dziwnow, Poland, east of Świnoujście, according to footage that his team took to document the swim.
In between lay more than two days and two nights, during which Kubkowski battled against waves, wind and the cold. He did not touch the support boat, did not go ashore anywhere nor did he rest.
The swimmer, nicknamed 'Robbe', was fed food and drink on skewers by his support team. During the second night, Kubkowski suffered from hallucinations at times, as his team reported on Instagram. Yet, cheered on by his fans, he made it to the finish line.
The extreme crossing, known as the Ultra Baltic Swim, was for a good cause with Kubkowski raising funds for the Cancer Fighter Foundation.

A Ukrainian drone attack struck an oil terminal in St. Petersburg on Saturday, Russian officials said, as Kyiv presses on with bombardment of Russia's oil infrastructure.
Almost daily long-range attacks on Russian oil facilities have created a fuel crisis and heaped political pressure on the Kremlin as its all-out invasion of Ukraine stretches into its fifth year.
Gov. Alexander Beglov said the city's Kirovsky district on the Baltic Sea was hit. He also said that air defenses shot down 72 Ukrainian drones across Russia's second-largest city and the surrounding region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attack as part of Ukraine's "long-range sanctions" against Russia. He said that Ukrainian forces also hit a military target on the island of Kronstadt, just off the coast of St. Petersburg.
"The Ukrainian defense forces hit the port oil infrastructure, which earns money for the Russian war, and there were also hits on Kronstadt — an important military target," he said in a post on Telegram.

Latvian intelligence is warning that Russia is preparing possible provocations against the Baltic states or Poland, including drones or any other hybrid attacks, in an effort to pressure NATO countries to stop supporting Ukraine.
"We see indications that Russia is preparing military provocations against the Baltic countries or Poland — not a conventional war, because Russia is not capable of that right now, but hybrid attacks, such as missiles, drones or other actions designed to send a signal: stop supporting Ukraine, or you will have your own problems," Latvian intelligence told Fox News Digital.
The most immediate concern, according to Latvian intelligence, is not that Moscow is ready for a full-scale war with NATO, but that Russian President Vladimir Putin could miscalculate because the surrounding institutions are feeding him the version of reality he wants to hear.
The Baltic states and Poland are NATO allies, meaning a Russian provocation there could quickly test America's treaty commitments and risk a broader confrontation. It also comes as Washington and its allies weigh how far to go in supporting Ukraine and tightening sanctions on Moscow.

TALLINN, June 9 (Reuters) - Ukraine has signed a drone deal with Latvia, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Tuesday as he met with Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs on the sidelines of a summit between Ukraine and Nordic and Baltic states in the Estonian capital Tallinn.
Zelenskiy was meeting with prime ministers from the Nordic-Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Iceland, Finland, Sweden and Norway, shortly after returning from a meeting in London with the leaders of Britain, France and Germany who said they were ready to support ceasefire talks.
Europe was likely far from ready to act as a mediator in the Ukraine peace process, the Kremlin said on Tuesday. The U.S. was leading the talks to end the more than four-year-long war before the recent Iran conflict switched its focus.
"These are concrete things to strengthen our joint defense and co-production, and, importantly, this also means Ukraine's expertise and experience helping to strengthen our partners," Zelenskiy said in a post on X.

HELSINKI, June 5 (Reuters) - Finnish police investigating last year's damage to two subsea telecommunication cables in the Baltic Sea said on Friday that four people are suspected of a crime, and that prosecutors will decide on any charges.
Finland seized the Fitburg cargo ship on December 31 while en route from Russia to Israel on suspicion of damaging cables running from Helsinki across the Gulf of Finland to Estonia, one of a string of such incidents in recent years.
Police on Friday said they had investigated suspected aggravated criminal damage, attempted aggravated criminal damage and aggravated interference with telecommunications, and that the case was being referred to prosecutors for possible charges.
"The investigation concluded with four suspects, three of whom remain subject to a travel ban," the police said in a statement.
The Baltic Sea region is on high alert after a string of power cable, telecom link and gas pipeline outages since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, and NATO has boosted its military presence with frigates, aircraft and naval drones.
