PayPal (PYPL) trades at 9.8 times earnings while the S&P 500 trades at 23.2. The profitability underneath is ordinary: an 18.4% operating margin against 18.5% for the market. The discount is not about whether the company makes money. It is about what each dollar it moves is worth.
Why Does PayPal Take In Less On Every Dollar It Moves?
In fiscal Q2 2026 the company moved $486 billion of payment volume, up 9% on a currency-neutral basis. Revenue on the same basis grew 3%. The transaction take rate fell 7 basis points to 1.61%, and by the company's own account the drop came from branded co-marketing investments and mix dynamics, including faster Venmo growth.
The PayPal ***** on itself, branded checkout, grew 2% currency-neutral for a second straight quarter. Venmo and Braintree both grew in the mid-teens. The growth is real, and it is arriving through the doors that pay less.
Who Is Bringing PayPal That Volume Now?

As the clichéd saying goes, past performance is no guarantee of future results. It is a pretty good indication of what's likely, though, if the underpinnings of that performance don't change.
To this end, ****** uming the stock market's long-term history repeats itself, what would, say, a $1,000 investment in the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) made today be worth 25 years from now?
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
It's not too tough to figure out.
You can't invest in the S&P 500 index itself. But, you can buy an index fund like the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (NYSEMKT: VOO) or the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEMKT: SPY) meant to mirror it. They both do a good job of matching the index's performance, too.

Nvidia's upcoming earnings report could test investor confidence in the AI sector.
Concerns about the sustainability of AI spending have weighed on Nvidia and other AI-related stocks lately.
The AI trade has hit a few stumbling blocks lately, with the sector facing a key test from Nvidia's earnings later this week.
The AI chipmaker, widely seen as a bellwether for the AI trade, is set to give investors an update on its financials after the closing bell Wednesday. With expectations running high ahead of the event, anything less than robust results could add to the pressure that's held the sector back in recent weeks, Wall Street **** ysts have warned.
Shares of Nvidia (NVDA), which were down 2% in early trading Monday, are up about 13% for the year but more than 10% off their May highs as worries about an AI bubble and the sustainability of spending on America's AI buildout have weighed on support for the stock, along with others closely tied to the AI boom.

Ives argues NVDA ****** yst models sit somewhere between 15% and 20% below what the company will actually deliver over the next 12 to 18 months.
Ives says markets give NVIDIA minimal credit for physical AI, which already generated $9 billion in revenue and could expand the addressable market.
Wednesday's earnings must deliver a strong Q3 guide, Vera Rubin shipment confirmation, and demand color supporting $1 trillion in Blackwell revenue visibility through 2027.
Don't wait: the ****** yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just revealed his top 10 AI stocks. See the full list FREE now.
Dan Ives is back in front of a CNBC camera, making the same argument he has made for most of this year: that investors continue to underrate the scale and scope of what NVIDIA is doing. The pitch matters this week because NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) reports fiscal second-quarter results after the market close on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes from July 28-29 certainly had a hawkish slant.
"Many participants ****** sed that policy tightening would likely be necessary if inflation did not decline," the minutes stated. "Some participants commented that financial conditions might not currently be sufficiently restrictive to facilitate a return of inflation to 2 percent."

At the conclusion of its July meeting, the FOMC elected to hold interest rates steady within a range of 3.50% and 3.75%. However, the vote was not unanimous, and three voting members dissented, preferring a quarter-point rate hike.
While various members of the FOMC continue to hint at a rate hike being necessary, I believe such a move is very unlikely in 2026.

When it comes to the market sub-segment devoted to investing in business development companies (BDCs) — and the VanEck BDC Income ETF (BIZD), which collects them into one tidy stock basket — there's a situation going on. I'd say these stocks are again catching a bid. But not after a first-half shellacking.
The chart below is a solid, optimistic chart to me. There's some rediscovery of this beaten-down market area. But don't kid yourself. As I'll discuss below, there are some major overhangs here, which can appear again at any time. For now, the upward price trend is heartening. And the PPO recently crossing above the important zero line has been correlated with nice up moves in the past.
