Now that the final preseason game is behind them, the Philadelphia Eagles will need to make some tough decisions on the way to finalizing their 53-man roster ahead of the league deadline on Sunday, August 30, at 6:00 PM Eastern.
While the starters on both offense and defense are largely in place, there were a few spots with players vying to take on a bigger role, specifically at wide receiver and safety. The depth players showed a lot of versatility and potential throughout the preseason, and the team will also need to make calculated moves in order to fill their practice squad without losing someone on waivers.
The Eagles will host the Commanders in their Week 1 season opener on Sunday, September 13, so they have two weeks to finalize their depth charts and fill their practice squad.
[This page will be updated as the team announces roster cuts, additions, or other trades over the coming days.]

One child in Denver called her "The Book Queen".
Another in Alabama calls her "Ms Dolly".
Across the globe in Australia, a toddler with speech delays delighted her family with her first word - "orange" - after she and her twin sister received a free book in the post about colours. It came from Imagination Library, the literacy programme begun by late global superstar Dolly Parton.
Parton, who died this week aged 80, launched the philanthropic effort in 1995 to honour her father - whose difficult Appalachian upbringing never allowed him to finish school or learn to read and write.
"He was the smartest man I have ever known, but I know in my heart his inability to read probably kept him from fulfilling all of his dreams," wrote Parton in an open letter on Imagination Library's website.

Pitt Schedule Breakdown 2026: Easiest, Toughest Games During College Football Season originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
After an 8-5 finish and bowl game loss in 2025, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi and the Panthers are hoping to make a leap in 2026.
Defensively, Narduzzi will rely on leadership from team captains Braylan Lovelace and Cruce Brookins to re-establish the physical identity that has long defined Pittsburgh football. The real intrigue, however, lies on offense. Mason Heintschel is now the unquestioned starter at quarterback, and he will be working with a few versatile perimeter weapons.
While the ACC is certainly not the strongest conference in the country, it is still filled with talented teams, meaning the Panthers will have to show up every week.
Here is a complete breakdown of Pitt's 2026 schedule, including the team's toughest and easiest games.

The Cleveland Browns have until Sunday at 6:00 PM ET to make roster cuts and announce their initial 53-man roster. Some of those cuts or rumors about roster moves might leak early, though. The Browns may also announce them in waves — for example, some cuts may be announced Friday, some on Saturday, etc.
All players who are released with less than four years of service must go through waivers and are eligible to be claimed by any other team until 1:00 PM ET on Monday. After that, any unclaimed player can be signed and teams will begin to fill out their 16-man practice squads.
Veterans with more than four years of service can sign immediately after being released.
You can also use the comments section to discuss cuts around the NFL that may be of interest to Cleveland. According to FanDuel, the Browns are 225/1 odds to win the Super Bowl, heading into final roster cuts.
7:30 AM: Reminder that the Browns are scheduled to practice today, with players speaking to the media at 11 AM, with Todd Monken following at 11:50 before the 12:15 practice. It would be somewhat strange, unless there was some secret plan with a player or two, for more than 53 players to be practicing today. Then again, Monken can do what he wants until the players are cut. Would also be risking injuries for players who are going to get cut and could sign elsewhere. Just seems unlikely, so stayed tuned here to the tracker all morning!

Every day from now until the start of the season, Land-Grant Holy Land is highlighting Ohio State football players that you should be watching this season. Check out all of our "Player to Watch" articles to get ready for the season opener against Ball State.
The Buckeyes' transfer portal class this year was note-worthy, filled with veteran experience and players intended to meet an immediate need. But amidst the hullabaloo, they also made a quieter addition, snagging cornerback Dominick Kelly from Georgia.
Don't be fooled by the lack of buzz: While Kelly might not have the same proven production as his peers, he's no less intriguing. In fact, if his upside ends up being as high as it looks, Kelly could very well end up being the biggest steal in this year's portal class, becoming an enormous impact player for Ohio State in the long run.
As far as experience goes, Kelly has relatively little at the collegiate level. He appeared in 10 games for the Bulldogs last season as a reserve cornerback, logging three tackles and three pass breakups while allowing three catches for 73 yards and a touchdown.
It might not seem like much, but the fact that Kelly has any experience at all speaks to his potential. Elite programs like Georgia aren't in the habit of handing snaps to freshmen cornerbacks, so his 61 defensive snaps (according to Pro Football Focus) indicate the trust Kirby Smart and his staff had in Kelly.

Just when you thought it was safe to draft a Giants RB, the team signed Najee Harris. Could he be the spoiler in a suddenly crowded backfield?
If you're a Cam Skattebo true believer, or if you plan to add Tyrone Tracy as an insurance policy, there's still a chance that this could all work in your favor. Harris is still returning to form after tearing his Achilles last year. He has only 19 touches since the end of the 2024 season. He has not yet earned a weekly role, and there's a chance he could be a distant third wheel.
More realistically, however, Harris will help stabilize a relatively injury-prone RB corps. Skattebo missed nine games last year and is known for inviting contact. I'd put his over/under on 2026 games played at 13.5. The expectation this summer has been that Tracy would be in line for at least a few spot starts. Although he filled in admirably for Skattebo last year, he regressed a little bit statistically on a per-touch basis, including dips in yards per carry and broken-tackle rate.
The addition of Harris takes some pressure off the Giants to overwork Skattebo, and it also generates competition with Tracy for the 1B role. It's essentially a lose-lose if you've been targeting either of those guys. The only winner is Harris, who has plenty of room to pop based on his current overall-237 / RB66 ADP. We'll know in the next one to two weeks whether he'll be a fantasy spoiler candidate.
For a deeper fantasy dive on the Giants' backfield, click here for a recent podcast episode.

Whether it be someone on your favorite team or your least favorite, it is always intriguing to see how former Michigan Wolverines grow after their time in Ann Arbor. As the NFL approaches and rosters fill with dozens of former Wolverines, let's take a look at some guys to watch for this season.
"Hutch" did not take long to become a fan favorite among Detroiters, and even after a season-ending injury in 2024, he came back last fall with an outrageous 14.5-sack performance. Last season, he was a Pro Bowler, second-team All-Pro, fifth in Defensive Player of the Year voting, and the runner-up for Comeback Player of the Year.
We all know the ferocity and effort with which Hutchinson played at Michigan, and he is the same monster in the pros. Even if you detest the Lions, you have to appreciate watching this guy play.
A slight surprise choice at No. 10 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, Loveland started his rookie year a bit slowly before emerging as one of Caleb Williams' more trusted options. He ended his first year in the NFL with 58 receptions on 82 targets for 713 yards and six touchdowns.
Gone is top wideout DJ Moore, and Loveland — along with receivers Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III — are expected to carry the pass-catching responsibilities for the Bears in 2026. Loveland is still only 22 years old and has all the makings to be one of the league's premier tight ends, potentially joining superstars such as Brock Bowers and Trey McBride sooner rather than later.

Every other week, I fly into Nashville for doctoral classes at Vanderbilt University. Most trips begin the same way: I land at BNA, walk through a terminal filled with music and am reminded that Nashville understands the power of place.
After Dolly Parton's death, Tennessee has an opportunity to tell visitors something important about the people this state chooses to honor.
Nashville International Airport should become Dolly Parton International Airport.
The case is larger than music. Parton's songs helped make Tennessee recognizable around the world. But her deepest legacy may be what she did with the success that followed.
She accumulated the kind of fame, wealth and influence few people ever experience. Then she repeatedly turned those resources outward.

Will Forte may be best known for making audiences laugh, but his life away from the screen is filled with unexpected stories. Born Orville Willis Forte IV, he went by Billy as a child before eventually adopting Will, the name that would follow him into his entertainment career. Long before Hollywood, his energetic personality was already evident through impressions, elaborate pranks and a competitive streak.
Growing up in California, Forte balanced comedy with athletics. He participated in football and swimming during high school and was voted "Best Personality" by his graduating class. Those early years revealed many of the qualities that would later become **** ociated with his comedy: persistence, unpredictability and a willingness to fully commit to whatever caught his attention.
Forte has also spoken publicly about living with obsessive compulsive disorder and how it can affect his behavior. One recurring tendency involves feeling compelled to complete tasks once he has started them. Whether working through a puzzle or finishing an everyday chore, walking away before reaching the end can be difficult. That intense focus has occasionally produced some unusual results outside his professional life.
One particularly memorable example involved the classic arcade game Donkey Kong. While working on a movie in 2011, Forte became fascinated with the game between scenes and devoted considerable time to improving his score. His dedication eventually became serious enough that he reportedly reached 36th place in the game's competitive rankings at one point. For someone primarily known as an actor and comedian, becoming a highly ranked Donkey Kong player was an appropriately unexpected achievement.
His personal life entered a new chapter after he met businesswoman Olivia Modling at a party in 2018. Their relationship developed away from much of Hollywood's attention, and the couple married in 2021. They have since welcomed two daughters, adding family life to Forte's increasingly varied list of roles.

The race to build the infrastructure behind artificial intelligence is creating a new boom for America's blue-collar workforce, as construction firms scramble to fill jobs building data centers, power systems and the facilities that keep the technology running.
The rapid buildout is putting a new premium on skilled trades, with data centers requiring armies of workers to prepare sites, pour concrete, install electrical systems and handle the infrastructure needed to bring them online.
"For many years, there's been a lack of focus just in general from what is the benefit of a career in the trades," explained Cole Renken, general manager of Merlo America, the U.S. division of Italian construction equipment manufacturer Merlo Group.
"It's a very stable income, very stable lifestyle that you can provide for," he added.

After winning the first two games of the new season, against Espanyol on the road and Real Sociedad at home, Real Madrid are set to face the newly-promoted Malaga in their next La Liga game, which is scheduled to take place at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.
The Merengues have already been training for this game for some days, and Jose Mourinho held the latest training session ahead of this game on Saturday. As has been the case since the start of the season, the Portuguese coach will remain without several players, including Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao, Raul Asencio, Aurelien Tchouameni, Thiago Pitarch, Rodrygo, and Endrick.
Tchouameni and Endrick's cases are not as severe as those of the other mentioned players, but they are still not at a competitive fitness level, and thus are highly likely to miss the game against Malaga. The other players continue to recover from their longer-term injuries. As a result, Mourinho called up several players from the academy, including Sergio Mestre, Mario Rivas, Cestero, and Alexis Ciria to fill up his ranks.
Meanwhile, Diario AS reports that there was another surprising presence at Valdebebas during this training session, i.e., the Real Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos. The former Merengue defender and captain visited the club's training facilities during this session.
The Spaniard is currently without a club after having ended his time with the Mexican side Monterrey. Several years after his departure from the Spanish capital, he still remains one of the most beloved players in the history of the white club.

College football is finally back, and the FCS is kicking off with a matchup between Mercer and East Texas A&M this weekend at Five Star Stadium.
This matchup is highly anticipated for Week 1 of the FCS, and for Mercer, it will mark the first game with new head coach Joel Taylor calling plays. Taylor completely overhauled the roster upon joining the program, bringing more than 75 new players to Macon, Georgia.
Meanwhile, East Texas A&M will be on the road for its season debut. Head coach Clint Dolezel is back for his fourth year, despite being on the hot seat for producing three losing seasons. Thirty-four newly signed players bring hope to the program though, helping to fill gaps across the defense and offensive lines.
Who will prevail in the FCS Kickoff Game?

Austin Hill shed light on his personal interaction with Kevin Harvick after Kyle Busch's tragic loss. The Richard Childress Racing driver shared that Harvick wanted him to remain stoic in front of his team.
Hill was called up to fill in for Busch after the latter's untimely death on May 21. The 32-year-old has been driving the No. 33 car in Busch's stead ever since.
In a recent media interview with NASCAR reporter Steven Taranto, Hill outlined Harvick's words of wisdom.
"The biggest takeaway that I got from Kevin was just to be mentally tough and not to show your emotion in front of everyone. If you're gonna have a breakdown moment or anything like that happen, do that behind closed doors," he said.
"You need to be the tough guy when it comes to driving the race car and being in the shop and being prepared," Hill added, "and showing those guys that you mean business and that you're here for them and you're here to be that shoulder to lean on."

Manchester City beat Crystal Palace 4-1 last night at Selhurst Park with a good performance that was filled with plenty of positives. One of those was the performance of Phil Foden. Foden endured a frustrating opening half-hour in last night's match. However, he overcame that to put in a performance that helped his team make it back-to-back wins to start their 2026-27 Premier League campaign.
Manchester City took the lead last night in the 17th minute courtesy of a sublime header from Erling Haaland which came from an Antoine ******* yo cross. Following that goal, Phil Foden had two chances to double Manchester City's lead. He squandered the first in the 21st minute after being set free by Elliot Anderson after City played through the Crystal Palace defence. Foden inexplicably fired over the crossbar with the goal at his mercy. Six minutes later, Foden failed to get sufficient contact on a header from close range after being set up by Rayan Cherki.
For a player who is striving to get back to his best, it was going to be a question of how Foden responded to those chances going by the wayside. Come the final whistle, the answer was emphatic as Phil Foden put in a performance that showed he was getting back to his best.
At times last night, Crystal Palace couldn't live with Manchester City's attacking interplay and fluidity. Phil Foden was at the heart of that. Foden combined superbly well with Nico O'Reilly, Elliot Anderson and Rayan Cherki from the right wing. You could see the confidence growing in Phil Foden as last night's match progressed. He was gliding around the pitch and his touch and passing was on point. He also grabbed an ******* ist when he played the ball to Rayan Cherki to do the rest to score his first goal of the evening. However, the best came late on from Foden.
Erling Haaland would seal Manchester City's win over Crystal Palace when he scored the fourth goal in City's 4-1 win in the 84th minute. Haaland's powerful near post finish came via an ******* ist from Phil Foden. It was that moment that was the crowning moment of Foden's night. It was also one that showed that Phil Foden is getting back to his best.

NASCAR playoff standings 2026: Updated points, scenarios for final Cup Series spots at Daytona originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
After a regular season filled with highlights, the Cup Series is mercifully approaching its crescendo — a 10-race postseason to determine who will hoist NASCAR's greatest prize, the Cup Series crown.
This year's playoff format is markedly different from its latest predecessors. The "win-and-in" format gave way to the Chase, popularized in the mid-to-late 2000s and early 2010s. The new layout rewards consistency as opposed to one-race excellence, offering a new path for riders who routinely place inside the top-five and top-10.
Toyota has shined in lieu of the change thus far — five of the top six performers helm the **** pits of the **** anese manufacturer, including regular-season champion Denny Hamlin.
Further down the standings, things remain compelling. Austin Cindric and Shane van Gisbergen are clinging to postseason berths heading into the final week of the regular season. They have more work to do to lock themselves into the Round of 16 and give themselves a chance at competing for the top-flight's signature prize.

Europe is heading for the winter with one of the lowest levels of gas in storage in the past two decades as the war in the Middle East crippled LNG supply from Qatar, sent gas and LNG prices in Europe and Asia skyrocketing, and intensified competition for the shrunk pool of readily available global LNG cargoes.
A perfect storm of elevated demand for filling depleted storage and electricity during the summer heatwaves, and slashed global LNG supply with Qatar's cargoes trapped behind the Strait of Hormuz have pushed European benchmark prices to multi-month highs and LNG prices to the highest in three years.
The high prices, with front-month futures higher than those further out in time, have discouraged stockpiling for most of the summer. But Europe doesn't have a choice and needs to fight for gas to fill storage sites to reasonably adequate levels before December to avoid a winter supply crunch.
That's easier said than done. Competition from Asia is fierce for LNG supply that doesn't need to move through the Strait of Hormuz, and Europe is currently losing this race.
One potentially mitigating factor is that Europe now consumes about 10-15% less natural gas than it did in 2021 due to a higher share of renewables for electricity generation and industries adapting from an abundance of gas (including from Russia) to tight markets with elevated prices.

Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) enters its fiscal second-quarter report with its shares up significantly in 2026. Consensus estimates call for revenue to increase 3.5% to $26.09 billion, adjusted earnings to rise 14% to $2.34 per share, and comparable sales to grow 2.4%. That follows a first quarter in which net sales increased 6.7%, comparable sales rose 5.6%, and traffic grew 4.4%. With the stock's recovery already well advanced, another sales beat may not be enough.
The central test is profitability. Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) improved its adjusted operating margin to 4.5% from 3.7%, but the adjusted SG&A expense rate increased to 21.9% from 21.7%. Gross margin expanded 80 basis points to 29%. Management expects the full-year operating margin to exceed the 2025 adjusted rate of 4.6% by more than 20 basis points.
Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) reported higher sales across all six core merchandise categories during the first quarter. Digital comparable sales grew 8.9%, led by more than 27% growth in same-day delivery. Non-merchandise sales increased nearly 25% as Roundel advertising, Target Circle 360 membership revenue and the Target+ marketplace expanded.
That breadth matters because Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) is not relying on one category or sales channel to restore growth. Higher traffic, positive average transaction growth, and gains across stores and digital channels indicate that the retailer is becoming more relevant to shoppers.
Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) also showed early margin progress. Supply-chain productivity, lower markdowns, and growth in advertising and other non-merchandise revenue helped expand gross margin despite higher product costs. Sustained traffic growth would give the retailer a larger sales base over which to spread its store and fulfillment expenses.

Canada Goose Holdings Inc. (NYSE:GOOS) shares closed at $8.28 on August 24, down 5.3%, after Wells Fargo downgraded the stock to Underweight. The call followed a new 50% U.S. duty on certain Canadian imports, including apparel. The duties were originally scheduled for August 19 but took effect on August 22 after a three-day suspension. The question for Canada Goose Holdings Inc. (NYSE:GOOS) is whether luxury pricing and direct distribution can absorb the added cost without weakening demand.
The duty applies to the customs value of covered products, making product-level exposure—not U.S. revenue alone—the key number. Canada Goose Holdings Inc. (NYSE:GOOS) generated C$385.1 million in the United States during fiscal 2026, equal to 25.2% of C$1.53 billion in total revenue.
Canada Goose Holdings Inc. (NYSE:GOOS) has not disclosed how much of its U.S. ****** ortment falls under the tariff or the customs-value base subject to the duty. However, the company reported that most of its goods were manufactured in Canada during fiscal 2026, including nearly all of its down-filled outerwear. More than 80% of those down-filled products were manufactured directly in company facilities.
Canada Goose Holdings Inc. (NYSE:GOOS) has more flexibility than a mass-market apparel supplier. Direct-to-consumer revenue reached C$1.16 billion in fiscal 2026, or 75.7% of total sales. That model gives the company greater control over retail pricing, promotions, product allocation and channel mix.
Canada Goose Holdings Inc. (NYSE:GOOS) also entered the tariff period with evidence that its brand can support higher-value purchases. In the first quarter of fiscal 2027, management reported improved conversion and average order value, while gross margin increased to 62.4% from 61.4% a year earlier. Fiscal 2026 gross margin was 69.7% despite higher freight and duty costs.

Tarik Skubal had not even thrown a pitch Friday night before Detroit made its feelings pretty clear.
As Skubal walked to the bullpen mound around 6:32 p.m. ET to begin warming up for his first start at Comerica Park as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, fans throughout the ballpark rose to their feet and applauded the former Tigers ace.
Then came the real moment.
After Skubal completed his bullpen session and began walking back toward the Dodgers dugout, the Tigers played a video tribute to Skubal on the Comerica Park scoreboard.
As you can see in the video below, Skubal appeared emotional (biting his upper lip) as he made his way toward the dugout, while the still-filling stadium gave him another warm ovation.

Deja Kelly wasn't sure what to expect when she signed with the Charlotte Crown back in May.
After playing her college ball at Oregon and North Carolina, Kelly spent some time in training camp with the Las Vegas Aces in 2025, played in Athletes Unlimited last winter, and also worked in television for the Big Ten Network. As summer approached, she wanted to keep playing basketball, but knew options were limited - especially if she wanted to play in the U.S. where her friends and family could watch her.
Then the Upshot League started, of which the Crown are one of four teams in its inaugural season. Founded by former WNBA president Donna Orender and backed by Zawyer Sports and Entertainment, the Upshot League sought to fill a gap in the U.S. women's basketball ecosystem by providing an environment in which the players squeezed out by the WNBA's limited roster sizes could still play team basketball, develop their skills and get paid for it.
While not affiliated with the WNBA, a simple way of thinking about the Upshot League is that it's the women's basketball equivalent of the NBA's G League.
"Whenever you're part of something for the first time, it's kind of nerve-wracking because it could be all over the place. It could go either way," Kelly told USA TODAY Sports. "I think overall, once we ironed out all the wrinkles, this is really high-level basketball. The talent level is there, so it's really good competition every single night. That's something that definitely exceeded my expectations.

MotoGP is seen as the pinnacle of motorcycle racing, but as the 2027 grid fills up, several proven premier-class riders are finding themselves without a seat. For those awaiting new contracts, the production-based World Superbike Championship is emerging as the obvious alternative.
Jack Miller is the most recent example, as previously reported, after Yamaha confirmed it will part ways with the four-time MotoGP race winner at the end of 2026. The team is promoting Moto2 standout Izan Guevara to partner with Toprak Razgatlioğlu at Pramac for 2027. Miller, an 11-year veteran from Townsville with 210 Grand Prix starts, 23 podiums, and four wins, is considering several options for next year, including a move to WSBK.
"I'm looking at options over in WorldSBK, trying to swap over there and with my experience on the Michelin tire over the last 11 years, hopefully I'll be able to take some of that experience over there and see what we can do in a different form of racing," Miller said ahead of the Aragon Grand Prix. "There's some stuff over there, sure, but we're not in a massive rush to try to secure something tomorrow, it's about making the decision that I like the most going forward. It has to suit me, where I see my career going in the next few years and what sort of route I'd like to take."
Álex Rins, an eight-time MotoGP race winner and 2020 third-place finisher, is another odd man out for 2027. Yamaha's factory team has signed Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura, leaving him without a ride. Rins confirmed ongoing talks with WorldSBK teams and hinted at additional suitors outside the paddock.

Austin Hill would have been content to remain in the NASCAR O'Reilly Series under a different set of circumstances.
Richard Childress Racing named Hill as the full-time driver of the Cup Series No. 33 next season -- a role has already been fulfilling this season ever since the tragic death of Kyle Busch.
Hill has been with the company since the 2022 season, having won in his organizational debut at Daytona and adding 15 more wins along the way over the ensuing five years. He's now 32-years-old and it didn't entirely look like he would become a Cup Series regular.
He's also conceded trepidation about taking this role in the aftermath of the company and sport losing Busch. There has just been a lot for him to contemplate.
"I would say I had been wanting to go to Cup for a little while now, but I wanted to make sure it was the right opportunity for me and not just jumping (in) any Cup car, and just to say I'm a cup driver, right," said Hill during a press conference on Friday at Daytona. "And that was something that I have always thought of for a very long time. I didn't just want to jump in any type of Cup car just to say I'm racing in Cup now.

3:25 PM: We have our first batch of Browns cuts: 16 moves in total (4 contracts terminated, 12 players waived).

Arch Manning and Texas don't take the field for another week, but that doesn't mean there's nothing for Longhorn fans to watch in Week 0. Four former Longhorns are set to make debuts with their new teams on Saturday.
The Longhorns underwent a hefty "makeover" this offseason and three of the departures will appear tomorrow. On top of that, a blast from the past is looking to continue his meteoric rise.
Here's where you'll see former Longhorns this week:
Game: vs. TCU, 11 a.m. CT(Ireland)
The sole departure from the TE room this offseason was sophomore Jordan Washington. He's found a new home with Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels, joining a transfer-filled TE room. Colorado State transfer Jaxxon Warren, Ohio State transfer Jelani Thurman and Washington are all battling for playing time. It seems Washington is running as the TE3 currently, but he could find the field against TCU in Ireland tomorrow.
