LONDON/SINGAPORE, Sept 7 (Reuters) - The yen surged to a seven-month high on Monday as traders reassessed the battered currency's outlook, driven by expectations of faster Bank of ***** an policy tightening and growing bets that ***** anese investors could repatriate funds.
The main event this week is Friday's U.S. inflation report, which could shape the Federal Reserve's decision on whether to raise interest rates later this month and influence the dollar's direction.
The European Central Bank also meets on Thursday and is widely expected to raise euro zone interest rates.
Until then, the focus remains on the yen. The dollar fell to as low as 154.05 yen, its weakest level since February, and was last down 1.1% at 154.4. It has now broken below lows reached in August after Washington and Tokyo jointly intervened to support the ***** anese currency, which was then trading at 40-year lows.

Burma's government approved the death penalty as punishment for internet scammers just months after the Fbi announced a sweeping $8 billion crackdown on scam networks coming from the country, according to the country's state-backed media.
The Anti-Online Scam Law passed the country's parliament on Tuesday, green lighting the death penalty for anyone who participates in a scam in which they "commit violence, torture, unlawfully arrest or detain, or treat any person in a cruel manner," according to The Global New Light of Myanmar, a media outlet jointly operated by a private company and the country's Ministry of the Interior.
Burma, also known as Myanmar, has become ground zero for digital scams, with criminals often recruiting migrants from other Asian countries with promises of legitimate work only to imprison them and force them to conduct the scams.
In May, the FBI announced a massive crackdown on a criminal network in Burma known as the "Democratic Karen Benevolent Army." The operation resulted in the seizure of 127,000 Bitcoin, worth over $8 billion as of July.

(NewsNation) — The attorney for Elizabeth Siders pushed back on suggestions 16 children recently pulled from squalid conditions in Hamden, Ohio, are "almost feral," as one authority described.
"We've already debunked the myth that these kids were almost feral," lawyer Tommy Stolly tells Chris Cuomo on the latest "Crime Time" podcast. "The ones that were of appropriate age had social media pages. There's evidence of that online now."
Ohio 'House of Horrors' Siders family had at least 3 teen marriages: Report
Authorities on June 30 raided the Vinton County residence of 33-year-old Siders and her husband, Gary Siders Jr., 36, and charged them with felony child endangerment. Inside, officials said, police found children ranging from 18 months to 18 years old living in deplorable conditions. Some reportedly needed immediate medical care.
"They looked like almost feral animals," Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson told reporters. "It was terrible."

Maverick Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) has said he has "no plans" to leave the Democratic Party, but he warned on Wednesday that if Democrats completely turn their backs on U.S. support for Israel, that would cross a red line that could push him out of the party.
"If our party ever becomes — and just makes it official — the anti-Israel party, that's when I would leave because that's been a moral clarity for me," he said during an interview at the Hill Nation Summit in Washington.
Fetterman said he "can't understand why the Democratic Party" — which shares an array of values with Israel as an important democracy in the Middle East — would turn against a long-standing ally.
The Pennsylvania Democrat says he has a major "concern" over the trajectory of many Democrats who have become increasingly critical of U.S. aid for Israel amid growing pressure from the party's progressive base.
"My long-term concern has been with the Democratic Party, as I am a member of that, is that our party is going to back away and turn their back to Israel," he said.
