Harpeth Hall outlasted Christ Presbyterian Academy, 2-1, to capture the 2026 TSSAA girls soccer state championship in Division II-AA at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga on Oct. 29.
It's the first championship for Harpeth Hall since 2021 and the program's third overall, including its 2013 ******* le. It was the Honeybears' first state tournament appearance since 2024 and first state championship appearance since 2023.
Harpeth Hall upset three-time defending state champion Baylor, 1-0, in the semifinals on Oct. 28 to advance to the championship.
Alexa Sarb and Olivia Grace Akatue scored Harpeth Hall's two goals. But it was CPA's Livi Langan that opened the scoring with a goal 7:31 into the game. That came off a CPA corner kick 30 seconds earlier as CPA chased its first state ******* le since 2018.
Harpeth Hall (17-8-4) would slowly build momentum after giving up that opening goal, taking four of the next five shots in the game before Akatue's equalizer in the 27th minute off an ******* ist from Sarb.

MOSCOW, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Russia's health watchdog said on Tuesday that no cases of plague had been detected among people who had come ‌into contact with a Siberian plague institute laboratory worker who died ‌last week.
Authorities say the 28-year-old woman died on Friday from pneumonia of an as-yet unestablished origin, in a case that has prompted international concern, including from US President Donald Trump.
Rospotrebnadzor, the watchdog, said in a statement that no infectious diseases had been reported among the staff of the same plague research institute in Irkutsk over the past 10 ‌days and that extensive testing had found no microorganisms in the deceased woman's body linked to her work.
Elena Sofina, deputy head of the Shelekhov district near Irkutsk, where a local hospital was placed under quarantine, said that what she called "a dangerous diagnosis" had not been confirmed.
She added that 60% of those placed under quarantine as a precaution had already been released. Local media said around 200 people had previously ‌been quarantined.

The actress sits down with theGrio ahead of "The Social Reckoning" hitting theaters to discuss her role and the merits of social media.
If you only knew actress Wunmi Mosaku from her social media content, you'd probably gather that her life is just one glamorous cover shoot, followed by one star-studded red carpet appearance after another—but she'd be the first to tell you that isn't the truth.
"I'm always like, be true to yourself, be true to yourself… But I only show one side of myself on social media, the side of myself that's working, and that is it," she admitted to theGrio over Zoom on Sunday, when, in actuality, according to the actress, there's so much more to her story.
Besides the balancing act of being a mom of two and a professional actress, she revealed that life is not always so picture perfect; quite a lot of her career as a performer involves being unemployed and grappling with the anxiety of not knowing when you'll work next.
"I never show that side of it," she confessed. "I just show the sides where I'm at work, where I have hair and makeup done. Like that is literally all I ever show, and I never show the full truth of being an actor, and it is a roller coaster, and I don't show the truth of being a mom. I don't show the truth of being a Brit in America, a Black Brit, a Nigerian in Britain."

"I am the house now," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told traders last week, as he defended the administration's increasingly interventionist approach to the bond market. He added that he had "asymmetric information" about what policymakers would do next and dared investors: "bet against me if you want."
On Wednesday, Federal Reserve chair Kevin Warsh might effectively take the other side of the bet.

It's been a hot American summer. Oil is hot, hovering around $110 a barrel. Bond yields are hot, too: the 10-year Treasury yield has pushed above 5%, around its highest level since 2007. Credit markets are running hot as well: U.S.-dollar debt issuance to finance AI and data-center development reached $308 billion through July. And all that borrowing is competing with U.S. national debt, which crossed $40 trillion less than a month ago. Stocks, despite a rough few days, are still up roughly 11% this year. Inflation, meanwhile, remains above 3%.
Put all that heat together, and the Federal Reserve is staring down a question it hasn't seriously confronted in three years: Is the U.S. economy actually overheating? Markets are betting the Fed thinks the answer is at least "maybe." Traders have priced a quarter-point hike Wednesday with near certainty.
But whether Wednesday amounts to a one-time course correction or the beginning of a new tightening cycle depends on what, exactly, is making the American economy hot. The last time the Fed began raising rates, in March 2022, Jerome Powell's Fed ultimately raised its benchmark rate by 525 basis points over 16 months.
Mohamed El-Erian, Wharton professor of practice and chief economic adviser at Allianz, parsed the current fervor and anxiety into four questions on X Tuesday: whether oil-supply disruptions persist, with China potentially acting as a "swing consumer"; whether Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent intervenes again to influence long-end yields; whether this week's hike proves "one and done" or the beginning of a cycle; and how markets balance AI's enormous promise against its enormous risks.

The fashion-forward influencer was honored with the Virgil Abloh Award at Harlem's Fashion Row's 19th Annual Awards Show.
If you've been deep in Black fashion over the past few years, you've likely seen Wisdom Kaye.
The Nigerian-American model has essentially redefined digital fashion, taking on requests from fans to essentially style everything from flags to even piecing together outfits based on a set financial amount. In sum, the Houston native emerged as one of the more daring men on social media, amassing more than two million TikTok followers in 2020 alone and curating various looks from whatever inspires him for more than nine million followers on Instagram.
That hard work was rewarded during New York Fashion Week as Kaye was presented with the Virgil Abloh Award at Harlem's Fashion Row's 19th Annual Awards Show.
"I never thought that with an iPhone and the corner of my room that I would inspire people all over the world," Kaye said. "I never thought that my ideas were really that great… I'm incredibly fortunate."

Roberto Mancini was in the stands at the Stade Jean-Bouin to monitor the progress of two potential Italy internationals as Paris FC hosted Lyon.
According to L'Équipe, the Italy boss travelled to the French capital specifically to watch defender Diego Coppola and forward Luca Koleosho, both of whom started for the hosts. The pair have been capped twice each at senior level for the Azzurri.

Paris FC now carry a distinctly Italian flavour after Coppola arrived permanently from Brighton this summer, while Koleosho completed his own switch from Burnley, having spent the second half of last season on loan at the club. Ciro Immobile was also on the books up until his retirement in the summer.
Koleosho, born in Norwalk, Connecticut, to a Nigerian father and an Italian-Canadian mother, is eligible for the United States, Canada and Nigeria but has committed to Italy, whom he first represented at senior level in June.

Xabi Alonso admitted he would love Chelsea to give him a "boring game" after their defensive woes allowed Hull to escape Stamford Bridge with a 2-2 draw on Saturday.
Alonso's side were cruising after Morgan Rogers drilled home in the seventh minute, but once again they paid the price for some sloppy defending.
Hull's Algerian winger Mohamed Belloumi blasted the equaliser after Chelsea failed to clear a long ball.
And Belloumi put the tireless Tigers in front when his deflected shot flashed in before half-time.
Cole Palmer's incisive run and cut-back in the 66th minute allowed Joao Pedro to bag Chelsea's equaliser.

As a general guideline, if you want multiple credit cards, it's a good idea to wait at least six months between credit card applications. That period gives your credit time to recover from credit inquiries, keeps your average account age healthy, and shows creditors you can manage your debt responsibly.
On average, American adults have 3.7 active cards, according to 2025 data from Experian.
Experts typically recommend waiting at least six months between credit card applications to protect your credit.
Each new credit card application can affect your credit because of hard credit checks and a lower average account age.

Prominent economist Mohamed El-Erian argues hyperscalers and national governments are issuing a flood of bonds to keep up their rapid spending velocity onto fewer buyers. Those straightforward circumstances are pushing bond yields up.
"If you look at the amount of issuance that's coming from governments, from hyperscalers, from companies, it far exceeds what you can count on in terms of reliable buyers, and that's why there's been pressure on interest rates, El-Erian told CNBC in an interview on Friday. "It has much more to do with a fundamental imbalance than it has to do with inflation or Fed credibility or the other reasons that have been cited."

After weeks focused on his fledgling career, Keon Johnson caught up with family. The Houston Astros had the 18-year-old infielder and recent draft pick and his family attend Sunday's game at Daikin Park, with Johnson arriving from their minor-league facility in West Palm Beach, Fla., late Saturday.
"It was a pretty surreal moment to finally see them again," Johnson said. "Once I got to see them, it was like pretty much all the weight finally got back off my shoulders again."
The Astros selected Johnson in the third round in the July draft, with the No. 93 overall pick, out of First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Ga. They signed Johnson, who was committed to play at Vanderbilt, for a reported over-slot $2 million bonus. Slot value for the No. 93 pick this year was $846,900.
A shortstop listed at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Johnson was selected as the Gatorade Georgia high school player of the year as a junior in 2025. Astros director of amateur scouting Cam Pendino deemed him an "unbelievably impressive kid" with an "exciting blend of bat-to-ball and pitch recognition" after the draft.
"We think our hitting instruction can really help unlock the contact quality here," Pendino said in July. "But when you have a guy with a special blend of bat-to-ball and approach - and really specifically bat-to-ball and pitch recognition as an 18-year-old kid with really good actions in the middle of the diamond on the dirt - it's an awesome recipe."

Beyond the defeat to AS Monaco last Sunday, it was a bad way for Olympique de Marseille, who lost two players to injury. Geoffrey Kondogbia suffered a muscular injury and, as confirmed by Bruno Genesio, won't be fit to face Paris FC this weekend.
Tochukwu Nnadi sustained a more serious injury. The Nigerian only came on at half-time but did not see out the match. He withdrew with what looked to be a serious knee injury. An ACL injury was feared. The injury is indeed serious, and it is suspected that it is an ACL. Speaking to La Provence, Nnadi's agent revealed that many consultants advised immediate surgery.
However, he has opted against surgery in order to ensure a quicker return. "We are aware of the risks. We know that he could feel pain. We know that it won't be easy, but it is Nnadi's decision," said his agent, who added that the midfielder "could not abandon OM at such a time".
Genesio is lacking options in midfield. Speaking on Friday, he revealed that he had tested full-back Ulisses Garcia in the position.

Growing credit card balances are a reality for many Americans in 2026.
Since the second quarter of 2025, U.S. credit card balances have increased from $1.21 trillion to $1.26 trillion, according to the New York Fed's Household Debt and Credit Report. Experian data shows average consumer credit card balances are also up slightly, from $6,618 in 2025 to $6,659 today.

In many ways, today's credit card debt story mirrors the divide **** ociated with the K-shaped economy: Higher-income consumers are more willing to carry a balance to fund their goals, while lower-income consumers may be accumulating debt out of necessity or unable to access credit at all.

Student credit cards are designed for college students, so you may need to provide proof of your enrollment when you apply, depending on your credit card issuer. You may have the option to change your student card to a similar nonstudent card or continue to use the existing card when you graduate.
While you're in school, you can use a student credit card to make purchases and establish credit. Each month, you'll get a credit card statement with an overview of your spending and a due date. You should pay at least the minimum required payment by this due date, though it's smart to pay your full balance off each month. Any remaining balance after the due date passes will start to accrue interest. Credit card interest can quickly become expensive — some student cards charge interest rates of nearly 30%.
But as long as you pay at least the minimum on time, you can build credit. Your student credit card issuer reports your account information to the credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion). By paying on time and keeping your balances well below the credit limit, you'll increase your credit score over time.
To avoid interest charges and build credit with a student credit card, make sure you pay on time and track your spending so you know you can afford to pay your full balance at the end of the month.
Before you apply for a student credit card, check these details:

Former UConn women's basketball star Gabby Williams has been tasked with leading an ultra-talented France squad that's hoping to finally knock off the United States at the FIBA Women's World Cup this month.
Williams was named captain of the Bleues Tuesday as she prepares to make her 56th appearance for France against Hungary Friday evening. She becomes the first active WNBA player to captain France at an Olympic Games or FIBA World Cup since 2014.
The Golden State Valkyries star takes over as captain from 32-year-old Valériane Ayayi, who returned to the WNBA after more than a decade this season with Phoenix. Sarah Michel, who played her entire club career overseas, captained France at the 2022 FIBA World Cup and 2024 Olympics before announcing her international retirement.
While Williams was born in Nevada, her mother, Thérèse, hails from France and the forward grew up speaking French. Excelling in both basketball and track - Williams competed in the 2012 Olympic trials - during her high school tenure, she committed to UConn over several high-profile suitors before the 2014-15 season. She used that athleticism to post one of just five triple-doubles in program history and left Storrs with two national championships and two second-team All-America selections.
Selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 draft, Williams experienced an uneven start to her professional career, playing in just 147 games over her first seven years - she was suspended for the entire 2021 season for choosing a commitment to the French national team over training camp with the Chicago Sky. She's realized her All-Star potential over the last two seasons, currently averaging a career-high 14.3 points to lead a surging 29-11 Golden State squad.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Last year, wide receiver Dohnte Meyers was just hoping to get established in the Canadian Football League.
Now, he's on the Cincinnati Bengals' 53-man roster to start the regular season.
"He has earned his way, that is for sure," coach Zac Taylor said. "He just continued to make plays over and over again. We weren't dialing stuff up for him. That is how you make it, really. When the opportunity comes your way, you have to make the most of it."
Meyers started his career at FCS Presbyterian College on an academic scholarship. After having success at that level, he transferred to Division II Delta State University. Meyers did enough at Delta State to earn an invite to Atlanta Falcons rookie camp in 2023, but that was only three days and a few reps here and there. He couldn't get his foot back in the door in the NFL at the time, so he went to every workout for every league he could find.
Meyers ended up paying his way to work out in the Canadian Football League.

Sept 2 (Reuters) - Everyone knows Wall Street calls a 20% drop in a major index a bear market. But what do you call it when the index posts big gains and losses practically every day and is still way up ‌for the year?
That question is testing the limits of the market's most familiar vocabulary and prompting some to question whether a term like bear market ‌really applies when tech indexes are red hot and constantly gyrating.
"It's kind of lazy nomenclature to be using on things that are that volatile," said Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B. Riley Wealth.
The Philadelphia SE Semiconductor Index, a benchmark for chip stocks, and South Korea's tech-heavy KOSPI both entered bear markets in July, based on the traditional measure. But even at their troughs, the indexes were still up 46% and 25%, respectively, for the year, thanks to triple-digit percentage gains over the past year.

Less than 16% of borrowers have scores of 600 or less, and the average interest rates for this group are 22%, according to Experian data.
Shop around to find the best deal on an auto loan for your budget and credit profile, but be prepared for limited loan options and high costs.
If approved, an auto loan can help improve your credit — provided you keep up with the loan and make on-time payments.
A car loan for bad credit is a risky and challenging endeavor. It's hard to get approved if you have a low credit score. Less than 16% of borrowers with a car loan had have a score of 600 or lower at the beginning of 2026, according to Experian data. Further, you'll likely face prohibitively high interest rates. To compare, the average used car loan rate for someone with a score of 781 or higher is a little over 6%, while a borrower with a score of under 500 gets a rate of almost 22% on average.
For that reason, it's best to work on your credit before you buy a car. But if the purchase can't wait, make sure to look for a competitive auto loan rather than settling for a high-cost offer from a buy-here, pay-here dealer. With a little legwork, you can find the best bad credit car loans for your financial situation.

Hill and Marley dated for about a decade and have five children together. Despite never marrying, the two have remained co-parents to the children, each of whom had a moment during Hill's BET Living Legend Award performance at the 2026 BET Awards.
Despite being apart for more than 15 years, Lauryn Hill will still go to bat for Rohan Marley.
Last week, Nigerian influencer Mayowa shared a reel breaking down the relationship between Fugees singer and Marley, including their split and Marley's marriage to his second wife, Barbara Fialho. Mayowa referred to Marley as a "tyrant" and wondered whether he was the reason Hill's music sounded "so sad" to her, later uploading a video of her 2001 "MTV Unplugged" performance, focusing on a clip in which Hill is visibly crying while performing.
The video caught Hill's attention and she responded in the comments.
"I might agree with some of the self-deprecation part, there are reasons for that, but while Rohan and I were in relationship I was NOT being done dirty," Hill wrote.

The Denver Broncos plan to sign outside linebacker David Agoha to their practice squad on Monday, according to the Denver Gazette's Chris Tomasson. NFL clubs are allowed to sign 16 players to practice squads, but there's an exception for up to one international player. He spent part of last season on the Tennessee ****** ans' practice squad and was waived by Tennessee earlier this month.

The New York Giants acquired defensive tackle C.J. Okoye from the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday in exchange for a 2028 seventh-round pick, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Art Staple of USA TODAY provided some additional clarity, reporting that the Giants are sending their own 2028 seventh-round pick to Baltimore as part of the deal.
Okoye, a 6-foot-6, 365-pound nose tackle, reunites with Giants head coach John Harbaugh after spending the 2025 season in Baltimore. The 24-year-old Nigerian product entered the NFL through the International Player Pathway Program following two seasons on the Los Angeles Chargers' practice squad. Aug 26 (Reuters) - MSCI's global equities gauge barely rose on Wednesday after U.S. inflation data came in hotter than expected while investors waited for results from AI heavyweight Nvidia, and oil prices settled lower after a choppy session.
A senior ‌Iranian source said on Wednesday that Iran and Oman are still working on the details of an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz, a ‌vital energy conduit. Earlier, Iran's Revolutionary Guards said the two countries had agreed on how to share the waterway and its revenues. However, the Guards' spokesperson said the strait would not open unless the U.S. met Tehran's conditions.
Meanwhile, data showed annual U.S. inflation unexpectedly held steady in July and was well above the Federal Reserve's 2% target for the 65th straight month. Separate government data showed consumer spending decelerating modestly in July while personal incomes rose faster than inflation.
On Wall Street, the three main indexes closed slightly lower after the data.
