World number two Elena Rybakina came from a set down to defeat four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka on Tuesday and reach the WTA Toronto Masters semi-finals, where she will face fourth-ranked Coco Gauff.
Rybakina, the reigning Australian Open champion from Kazakhstan, fired 13 aces in a 4-6, 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 victory.
"Super happy. It was a very difficult match," Rybakina said after a tight battle lasting 2hr 33min.
"In the first set (I made) a few mistakes, a poor start.
"It was a really tough one but I'm glad I could turn it around, I don't yet know how, but I think my serve helped me a little bit."

Australian Open champion Rybakina of Kazakhstan began her hardcourt run ahead of the US Open by outlasting Australian Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 after two hours and 33 minutes.
World number two Rybakina began the match by hitting six consecutive winners and finished with 58 winners, 15 of them acers, and 58 unforced errors, 16 of them double faults.
Rybakina hit back-to-back double faults to drop the second set and three double faults while serving for the match before advancing to next face 28th-seeded American Ann Li, who eliminated Canadian wildcard Kayla Cross 7-6 (7/2), 6-3.
Pegula, who lost Monday in a rain-hit Washington final, was also extended to three sets before advancing with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Poland's Magdalena Frech in two hours and three minutes.

Elena Khoziaeva's story is basically a masterclass in staying somewhere because it's actually good. Khoziaeva, CFA, shared her journey from Belarus to a Houston master's degree, from walking into Bridgeway in 1998 as partner number six to 25-plus years later as the Co-CIO of a firm now running roughly $5 billion on the latest Behind the Ticker episode with host Brad Roth, founder and CIO of Thor Funds. What makes Bridgeway drastically different than your average shop was baked in from the very beginning of the firm. It gives away half its profits to a foundation fighting genocide, caps pay so no partner earns more than 7x the lowest-paid employee, and runs on a research culture where being wrong in a meeting isn't a career risk but half the point. Khoziaeva calls the approach systematic rather than quantitative, but it all comes down to trusting the process, being open to arguments internally to shape better strategies, and not getting defensive when the model's wrong.
Then there's BSVO, the EA Bridgeway Omni Small-Cap Value ETF, one of the more interesting products in a crowded category. The World Junior Summer Showcase took place at the end of July, a pivotal event that serves as a part of the process to select the roster for the IIHF World Junior Championship. In the event, almost ten connections to the MSU program skated and took part in the showcase in Windsor.
Following the conclusion of the event, Helena Hsieh, a regional scout for Elite Prospects, announced her standout performers of the showcase and a couple of Spartans made the list.
Incoming freshman Ethan Belchetz was one of those standouts, performing for team Canada. The Utah first round pick is slated for a big year with MSU.
Next, future Spartan Brooks Rogowski was another standout, this time for team USA. The Vancouver draft pick is expected to join MSU in 2027-28, but he is a candidate for the open slot left by Nikita Kelpov, being a late addition to the roster this year.

NEW YORK (AP) — An additional 13 teams, one featuring Venus Williams and some comprised of married couples, have entered the U.S. Open mixed doubles championship.
The new duos announced Monday by the U.S. Tennis ***** ociation raised the total to 29 teams for the 16 spots in the main draw, which will be held on Aug. 25 and Aug. 26.
Williams is partnering with Alexander Bublik for the tournament that was overhauled last year, with a $1 million prize to the winning team, in an effort to get top singles players to compete. Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka and 24-time Grand Slam singles champion Novak Djokovic headlined the initial list of 16 teams who entered.
Elina Svitolina and her husband Gael Monfils, who is expected to play his final Grand Slam event at the U.S. Open, and newlyweds Katie Boulter and Alex De Minaur also were among the new entries.

Kate Middleton has grown into one of the most popular members of the royal family. According to one royal expert, she is the monarchy's "greatest ****** et." Experts believe King Charles III and Kate now share a stronger relationship following their cancer diagnoses.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl, who serves as Vanity Fair's royal correspondent and co-hosts The Royals Uncensored, said, "I think Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has always been a very valuable ****** et to the royal family."
"She is the commoner who married into the royal family … [She has made] a seamless transition into that unique world of royalty. It's not easy … There's a huge amount of sacrifice that goes into being a member of the royal family," the expert told Fox News.
Nicholl said Catherine has made many personal sacrifices but has handled them with grace, dignity, and a smile. She added that both Charles and Queen Camilla deeply admire Catherine. Buckingham Palace announced the King's diagnosis in 2024. In December 2025, Charles shared that his treatment would be reduced in 2026.
On the other hand, the mother of three shared in September 2024 that she had finished chemotherapy and considered herself "cancer-free." She later announced in January 2025 that she was in remission. British broadcaster Helena Chard noted that King Charles, 77, has been greatly inspired by Kate's strength.

A special prosecutor on Wednesday dismissed felony criminal charges against Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, who was indicted on accusations of threatening the jobs of New Orleans officials who fought a Republican-led overhaul of courts in the heavily Democratic city.
The case was put on hold almost immediately after the July 2 indictment, when the Louisiana Supreme Court said the local court and special prosecutor did not follow procedures surrounding the indictment. The dismissal by special prosecutor Laurie White came a day after New Orleans District Attorney Jason Williams, Democratic Mayor Helena Moreno and five City Council members sent a letter urging her to drop the case.
"What I did was not a crime, it was never a crime," said Murrill, a Republican. "I think this was a malicious prosecution."
At the center of the case are deepening rifts between the state's Republican leaders and Democrats who control Louisiana's most prominent city.
Orleans Parish online court records show White submitted the letters from the elected city officials and the prosecutor to a judge before dismissing each count. The case against Murrill was then ordered "closed."
