Cracker Barrel will soon have a new leader.
The company announced on July 27 CEO Julie Masino will step down as CEO and member of the board effective Aug. 10. Masino will be replaced by David Deno, most recently the CEO of Bloomin' Brands, the owner of casual restaurant chains such as Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill and Bonefish Grill.
Masino will remain with Cracker Barrel as an adviser until Oct. 9, the company said.
"Following a robust and thoughtful search process, we are pleased to welcome David as Cracker Barrel's next CEO," said Carl Berquist, independent chairman of the Cracker Barrel board, in a news release. "He brings decades of experience across the restaurant and retail industries, with a strong track record of leading businesses through growth and a demonstrated commitment to operational excellence, guest experience, and team member engagement."
Deno said in the news release he is "honored to lead the Cracker Barrel team" and looks forward to "unlocking the full potential of this remarkable brand." Deno began his tenure as CEO of Bloomin' Brands in 2019, having previously served as the company's executive vice president and chief financial officer from 2012 to 2019.

Cracker Barrel is changing CEOs as it works to regain traffic and trust from guests.
The company announced Monday that David Deno will become CEO and join the board of directors effective August 10. He replaces Julie Masino, who has led Cracker Barrel since November 2023 and will step down from the top role and board on the same date. Masino will stay with the company in an advisory role through October 9 to ******* ist with the transition.
Deno brings decades of restaurant experience to the position, including five years as CEO of Bloomin' Brands, parent company of Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, and Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar. He joined Bloomin' Brands in 2012 as CFO before taking over as CEO in 2019. He previously held senior positions at Best Buy, Yum! Brands, Pizza Hut, and Burger King.
During Deno's tenure, Bloomin' credited him with strengthening profitability and its balance sheet, including navigating the company through the COVID pandemic and optimizing its international portfolio. He retired from the CEO position in 2024.

The year of tech companies tapping the debt markets to fuel their AI ambitions is far from over, and debt issuance is already busting through Wall Street projections, with five months left to go in 2026.

In a new research note from Goldman Sachs strategist Amanda Lynam on Wednesday, she estimated that $489 billion of AI-related debt has been issued this year. That's already above Goldman's estimate of $322 billion for how much of this debt came to market last year.

ATLANTA (AP) — Nearly a decade ago, Jon Ossoff was a 30-year-old Democratic congressional candidate promising Georgia suburban voters he would "cut wasteful spending" and make "both parties in Washington" be "accountable to you." His Republican opponent even complained that Ossoff "talks like a Republican."
Nobody would make that mistake today. After losing that race in 2017 and narrowly winning a U.S. Senate seat during a runoff in 2021, Ossoff is running for reelection with a full-throated broadside on President Donald Trump as a "national disgrace" leading a "Mar-a-Lago mafia" and "the most corrupt administration of all time."
The 39-year-old senator has always been a vessel for Trump opposition, no matter his message on the campaign trail. But not until now has Ossoff openly embraced the role. His approach is being noticed across the Democratic spectrum, from activists hungry for the right message in the 2026 midterms to those pining for viable presidential candidates in 2028.
This week, as Trump renewed his fixation on false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election that brought Ossoff to Washington, the senator never missed an opportunity to denounce the "world's most famous sore loser."

The International Olympic Committee announced Tuesday, during the qualification period for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, that it’s provisionally lifted a nearly three-year-old ban on the Russian Olympic Committee. That suspension arrived on Oct. 12, 2023, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and it prevented Russian athletes from competing as members of the ROC.
In its Tuesday statement, the IOC explained that it’s decision was based on a thorough ****** ysis by the governing body’s legal affairs commission, which determined “that the ROC no longer includes as its members any regional sports organizations in territories falling under the jurisdiction of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine.”
“In addition, the ROC confirmed that it does not, and will not, conduct any activities in these territories,” the statement continues to read.
The IOC said its executive board will monitor any ROC activities in those areas, reserving its right to change course if necessary. Additionally, the IOC clarified that it still denounces Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and, in general, “condemns wars, armed conflicts and violence that cause human suffering wherever they occur.”
The war between Russia and Ukraine is ongoing. Just days ago, Russia launched its latest attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, with 16 deaths and several other injuries resulting from a missile strike, as reported by The New York Times.

Also, remembering the terrific Columbus Crew players, Cucho, Zelarayan, and Aidan Morris that we have lost to other clubs/cities makes you wonder what’s wrong with Columbus. Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White denounced racism and all forms of hate after Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas revealed she was subjected to online abuse in the aftermath of her on-court incident with Caitlin Clark.
One day after Thomas said she faced death threats and racial slurs, White condemned anyone engaging in that "absolutely unacceptable" behavior.
"I think as a league, as a whole, there's been so much more toxicity, racism, ****** phobia, straight-out nonsense... it is absolutely unacceptable," White said at practice on Wednesday, July 1. "If you are one of these people that are online doing this, do not call yourself a WNBA fan."
White also said she believes a majority of the toxic discourse impacting Thomas is the direct result of online agitators using the situation to push an agenda, rather than the real reactions of true fans of the Fever or the league.
"I truly believe that it is an online community that is using our league, that is using our players to continue to further divisive, hateful narratives," she added. "We are not about continuing this narrative, and it's just absolutely unacceptable... We've got to continue to support our players in our league."

There is an industry that profits every time you come to hate your neighbor a little more. Steven Olikara calls it the "division industrial complex" — "a collection of algorithms, polarized media, and hyper-partisan political operatives that make money on making us hate each other all the time." It is a multibillion-dollar machine, he argues, mirroring the military-industrial complex it rhymes with, and it has convinced most of us that the people on the other side want to destroy everything we hold dear. The strangest part, he says, is that it's mostly a lie. "We end up having a lot more in common than we realize. Just our discourse doesn't reflect that."
Olikara's response was to go where the lie is manufactured. He runs Bridge Entertainment Labs, what he describes as the first Hollywood office built to combat toxic polarization and grow a culture of pluralism in America. It advises filmmakers and studios from Disney to Paramount on how to tell stories that make Americans see each other as human again. He came to it the long way: a decade in politics, and before that, a kid at a piano in a segregated city, learning that the people who aren't supposed to share a room can still build something together.
That kid grew up in Milwaukee, one of the most racially and socioeconomically segregated metros in the country, a place where, as he puts it, "not a lot of people looked like me or shared my background." Music was his way across. What he loved most was when his bands would draw and infuse different influences across genres and cultures — the collision that made the art, in his words, "so much more dynamic, exciting, and creative." Jazz in particular taught him how. "You have to listen before you can play," his instructor used to say — a discipline of presence and call-and-response he came to see as a model for how a fractured country might talk to itself. In the right kind of creative, open and dignified **** es, he says, people "can add up to something that's larger than the sum of our parts" — not a least common denominator, but "something totally new and evolutionary together."
Olikara spent that decade chasing the idea into politics, founding Future Caucus, now the largest movement of young elected officials working across partisan lines on issues from gun violence prevention to criminal justice reform. The wins were real. But he kept circling a harder problem. Passing reforms in statehouses was one thing; convincing the friends he grew up with that a better discourse was even possible was another. "That's hard to believe if you're not seeing it in our media, you're not seeing it in the stories we tell," he says. The question that followed reframed his whole mission: for the people with media platforms, "which stories do we choose to tell and which ones do you choose to ignore?" The US Dollar Index (DXY) has broken above 100 to its highest level since May 2025, signaling fresh pressure on risk ****** ets heading into summer.
Historically, a rising dollar drains liquidity from global markets and weighs on both equities and cryptocurrencies. The latest breakout suggests a difficult few months ahead for traders.

MCKINNEY, Texas (AP) — A Texas teenager who fatally stabbed a 17-year-old track athlete from a rival team during a high school meet was convicted of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison on Tuesday in a case that drew wide attention beyond the booming Dallas suburb where they were students. A jury rejected Karmelo Anthony's claims of self-defense during a confrontation with Austin Metcalf in stadium bleachers last year. Most people who testified were students who described a heated exchange over Anthony's refusal on a rainy spring day to leave a tent that belonged to Metcalf's team.
Anthony, now 19, did not testify at trial and only his mother took the stand during the sentencing phase, telling jurors her son was sorry.
Notoriety about the case spread, in part, because of a flood of social media posts that amplified the killing in racial terms. Anthony is Black; Metcalf was white. Lawyers on both sides, however, told jurors that the tragedy had nothing to do with race.
Jeff Metcalf, Austin's father, had also denounced those who sought to stoke racial divisions after his son was killed. A year later, he said again in a Collin County courtroom that it was never about race while his voice swelled with anger over the death of his son.
"You failed your parents, you failed yourself and you failed society," said Metcalf, looking at Anthony after the teenager was sentenced.

Leading Ethereum treasury firm BitMine Immersion Technologies made its largest ETH-denominated purchase of 2026 last week, adding 126,971 ETH or around $214 million worth of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap.
The firm’s major acquisition comes amid what the firm sees as a “strengthening case” for Ethereum following the AI-assisted discovery of a vulnerability in privacy protocol Zcash. Uncertainty over whether the vulnerability was actually exploited led to a 40% plunge in the price of Zcash’s ZEC token last week, though it has since recovered some of those losses.

The PC(USA) has allowed for the ordination of openly gay clergy since 2011 and altered its definition of marriage to "two people" in 2014. The new proposed rule, known as CON-10, does not mention ******* ual orientation or same-sex relationships. Instead, it targets multipartner relationships, arguing that the practice of polyamory or polygamy can create "power imbalances, emotional harm, and spiritual confusion," particularly for women, children and historically marginalized persons.
The rule, submitted by the Sierra Blanca Presbytery, states that PC(USA) pastors must "display moral character" and, "if engaged in any relationship of a ******* ual nature, living in a monogamous one."
