The Atlanta Falcons began training camp without their top two quarterbacks on Wednesday morning. Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. are both battling injuries, leaving undrafted free agent Jack Strand and veteran Cooper Rush to take the 11-on-11 reps.
Penix has yet to be cleared for contact as he recovers from an ACL injury. Meanwhile, Tagovailoa is dealing with a minor undisclosed injury (reportedly a back issue). Head coach Kevin Stefanski said Tua is expected back soon but Penix's future is less clear.

In those starts, he tossed 50 innings of 2.88 ERA ball while holding opponents to a .198 average. While the baseline numbers were solid, Bagwell's strikeout numbers left something to be desired as he only managed 30 strikeouts in those 50 frames.

Dan Campbell did not pretend the Detroit Lions' decision to move on from Terrion Arnold was easy.
Speaking before Wednesday's practice, Campbell addressed Detroit's separation from the former first-round cornerback, who has been dealing with legal issues. The Lions coach said he spoke directly to the team about the move Tuesday night.

Peters began the media session with a pair of injury updates from training camp. Last week, the Commanders placed cornerback Trey Amos, edge rusher Dorance Armstrong and defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to begin training camp.

Shane Bieber melted down, which cost the Jays a chance to win but probably more importantly derailed a string of solid starts that had hopefully been pushing his trade value back up. Also, Vladimir Guerrero jr. left the game before the bottom of the fourth after legging out an infield single and throwing error in the third. It was later reported to be a right hamstring injury. So a good day all around.
We got a fun moment before the game as Louis Varland and his brother Gus, recently recalled from AAA by the Nationals, got to do the lineup card exchange.
There was an hour long rain delay before we could get going tonight. Cade Cavalli didn't look bothered, but it looked like the delay really threw Shane Bieber. He couldn't get any of his pitches across, missing badly all over the plate. After the Jays were retired in the first with just a Nathan Lukes single erased by a Vladimir Guerrero jr. double play ball, Bieber walked two the first three Washington hitters. Then CJ Abrams reached on an infield ground ball when Bieber couldn't find the bag while recieving Luis Urias' toss, loading the bases with just one out. Walks to Keibert Ruiz and Daylen Lile forced in a pair of runs. A Nasim Nunez sac fly plated Abrams to make it 3-0. Then another walk, to Jorbit Vivas, re-loaded the bases, and a sixth, to Jacob Young, pushed yet another run across. That was enough for the Jays, who called for Brendon Little. He got a ground out to finally end the inning.
The Jays had a chance in the second, with George Springer walking and Ernie Clement lining a single, but they failed to capitalize. Little returned for the bottom half and struck out the side.
Toronto got on board in the third. Yohendrick Pinango walked with one out, but was traded for Lukes on a fielder's choice. The speed upgrade mattered, as Vlad hit a slow roller to third and Vivas's throw to first went wide, allowing Lukes to come all the way around to score, cutting the deficit to 4-1. Little kept dealing, getting a ground out and a strikeout among the first two batters. Nunez reached when Ernie Clement bobbled a soft chopper to third, but Brandon Valenzuela gunned him down stealing second with a beautiful throw.

As players rejoin the team, it's common for the team to make a few last-minute transactions in preparation for camp. Earlier in the week, we saw the Lions place three players on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, and on Tuesday, they placed Christian Mahogany on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list, Christian Izien on the Non-Football Illness (NFI) list, and released veteran nose tackle Jay Tufele.
If you're not familiar with the difference between the lists, which list a player lands on is based on where they were injured and the type of injury. If a player was hurt while participating in an activity directly related to the NFL (games, practices, workouts, etc.), they land on the PUP list. If a player was injured in a non-NFL activity (which can include private workouts or in their personal life), they land on the NFI (injury) list. If a player is dealing with an illness (which can range from having the flu or Mononucleosis—like Mahogany had as a rookie—or even more serious illnesses), they land in the NFI (illness) category.
These lists also have some similarities as well. Like with the PUP list, placing a player on either NFI list at this stage does not require them to miss any games. They are restricted from practicing while on the injury lists, but players are also eligible to be removed from any of these lists at any time if a team believes a player is healthy enough to begin practicing. However, if a player remains on any of the lists through roster cutdowns, they will be forced to miss the first four games of the regular season.
Mahogany returns to Detroit this season expecting to work to retain his starting left guard job, so any absence will certainly hinder his ability to compete for that role. While he is out, look for either veteran Ben Bartch, second-year lineman Miles Frazier, or recently traded-for Juice Scruggs to try to seize the opportunity in front of them.

Training camp got off on the wrong foot as starting linebacker Nic Scourton went down with a season-ending ACL injury. The franchise is also dealing with two offensive linemen, Damien Lewis and Robert Hunt, working their way back from injuries. And starting tackles Taylor Moton and Ikem Ekwonu are also currently injured and missing training camp, with both expected to miss the season opener.
So any new injuries at this point will be felt even harder, which is why a scary moment at camp on Tuesday immediately raised concerns.

Manchester City have confirmed that midfielder Rodri has successfully undergone minor back surgery, with the Spain international now set to begin his recovery ahead of the new season.
The Premier League club released a statement on Tuesday announcing that the procedure had gone as planned after the midfielder had been dealing with persistent discomfort.

The Times is reporting that FIFA president Gianni Infantino has been in talks with private investors about selling stakes in the World Cup. It's a move that would take complete control of the global tournament out of FIFA's hands, and give a seat at the table to private entities with their own agendas. Moreover, the report added that a key figure in brokering these deals is U.S. President Donald Trump, whom Infantino cozied up to during the 2026 World Cup by presenting him with the inaugural FIFA peace prize and then sitting next to the president at games he attended.
FIFA has since confirmed the report, adding that Josh Kushner is positioned to be the lead investor in the plan, should Infantino elect to sell shares in the World Cup. Josh is the brother of Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son in law.
Details of the plan are nebulous, but according to the report, the World Cup would ostensibly be split off from FIFA and into a new corporation, with Infantino as its commissioner as soon as his term as FIFA president ends in 2031. Germany sporting director Rudi Völler has reflected on Julian Nagelsmann's tenure as head coach of the national team, admitting that the former Bayern Munich boss faced a level of scrutiny that made his job increasingly difficult.

Federal agents seized the mobile phone and computer of Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter last September in a wide-ranging probe into the financial dealings of the billionaire's businesses, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The "If I Could Turn Back Time" singer, 80, recently learned she will have to pay more than $1 million in her own attorney fees after a judge denied her request to have Sonny Bono's widow, Mary Bono, reimburse the legal costs she incurred during their lengthy royalties dispute, per People.
Even though Cher won the underlying lawsuit over unpaid royalties, the court ruled that each side is responsible for paying their own legal fees.

The Patriots put three players on injury lists earlier this week and head coach Mike Vrabel said that a fourth will be joining them.
Vrabel said at his Friday press conference that safety/special teamer Brenden Schooler will go on the non-football injury list to open training camp. Vrabel did not share the nature of the issue that Schooler is dealing with, but said "he may be away for a little bit or out for a little bit."
Schooler had 19 tackles in the 2025 regular season and added six more in the playoffs. He was an All-Pro for his special teams work in 2024.

The Cardinals placed left tackle Paris Johnson and linebacker Josh Sweat on the physically unable to perform list on Thursday, but head coach Mike LaFleur didn't make it sound like either player is going to miss much time during training camp.
LaFleur told reporters that both players are dealing with knee issues and that the Cardinals will "be smart" with them at this point in the calendar. The Cardinals will practice the next four days before taking Monday off and neither player will practice before that rest day, but LaFleur suggested they won't be out much longer.
"The Paris thing, that is honestly nothing," LaFleur said, via the team's website. "It's really just maintenance. He'll be back before you know it. Same thing with Josh. Seeing him, he's fired up to be here. He's in great spirits and feeling good."

The Panthers are set to open the season without either of their starting offensive tackles from 2025, but General Manager Dan Morgan didn't seem worried about that during a Wednesday press conference.
Carolina signed Rasheed Walker as a free agent in March because they knew left tackle Ikem Ekwonu had a long rehab ahead of him after tearing his patellar tendon, but news this week that right tackle Taylor Moton is dealing with a blood clot in his lung came as a surprise. Moton is expected to be out into the regular season and that puts first-round pick Monroe Freeling on track to start on that side of the offensive line.
Freeling played left tackle at Georgia and he appeared set to play an apprentice role as a rookie, but Morgan said he feels comfortable with how things are currently taking shape up front.
"I think we’ll be covered there," Morgan said, via the team's website. "We feel good about it, and I know T-Mo will definitely support Monroe there at right tackle and teach him all he knows. So, yeah, we feel good about it. I think that's why depth matters so much in this league. And drafting Monroe and taking the best player available, it happened to be a tackle, it worked out really well for us. So we feel really good about him. We're confident in him, and I know he's going to attack it and he's going to be out there competing."
The Panthers also have a new center in Luke Fortner and the offensive line will have to gel over the coming weeks for the team to get off on the right foot come September.

Carolina signed Rasheed Walker as a free agent in March because they knew left tackle Ikem Ekwonu had a long rehab ahead of him after tearing his patellar tendon, but news this week that right tackle Taylor Moton is dealing with a blood clot in his lung came as a surprise. Moton is expected to be out into the regular season and that puts first-round pick Monroe Freeling on track to start on that side of the offensive line.
Freeling played left tackle at Georgia and he appeared set to play an apprentice role as a rookie, but Morgan said he feels comfortable with how things are currently taking shape up front.
"I think we’ll be covered there," Morgan said, via the team's website. "We feel good about it, and I know T-Mo will definitely support Monroe there at right tackle and teach him all he knows. So, yeah, we feel good about it. I think that's why depth matters so much in this league. And drafting Monroe and taking the best player available, it happened to be a tackle, it worked out really well for us. So we feel really good about him. We're confident in him, and I know he's going to attack it and he's going to be out there competing."
The Panthers also have a new center in Luke Fortner and the offensive line will have to gel over the coming weeks for the team to get off on the right foot come September.

One of the key investors behind the Cadillac Formula 1 project is linked to a federal investigation involving businesses he controls. Mark Walter, whose initials form part of TWG Global’s name, is **** ociated with companies under investigation by federal prosecutors, with the FBI and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission also involved.
The Cadillac F1 team has not had what one would call a great start to its debut in the premier class of motorsport. As a new team adapting to Formula 1 and the sport’s latest regulations, Cadillac’s 2026 campaign has largely been a learning experience rather than a competitive one.
Cadillac is the only team on the grid that has not scored a point through the first 10 races of the season. The team’s best finish was when Valtteri Bottas finished 13th in the Chinese Grand Prix. However, leaving performance aside, one of its owners, Walter, is now dealing with developments away from F1.
Bloomberg reports that Walter’s investment firm, Guggenheim Partners LLC, as well as insurance companies Delaware Life Insurance Co. and Clear Spring Life and Annuity Co., were served with grand jury subpoenas in February. The filings have only recently become public.
Prosecutors in Manhattan are reportedly examining whether the companies failed to disclose that billions of dollars in private credit investments were tied to Walter’s other business ventures.

LAS VEGAS — Hurt or not, Jack Layne isn’t making excuses after last season.
“Last year, I think we were good as an offense, but we can be better, and I think we will be better this year,” New Mexico’s fifth-year senior said last Wednesday at Mountain West Media Days. “And, you know, everyone’s dealing with injuries – it’s not just me. Everyone’s got something.”
By all indications, Layne shouldn’t be dealing with something soon.
After undergoing offseason surgery to repair a torn tendon in his elbow, Layne said his arm is “feeling good” entering what’s expected to be a four-player quarterback competition during fall camp.
The 6-foot-2, 209-pound former Idaho transfer tore his common flexor tendon last season during warmups ahead of a 35-10 win over UCLA, the Lobos’ fourth game of the season. But the injury went undiagnosed until Layne underwent a routine clean-up procedure in late December, with the significance of the tear surprising both him and his surgeon.

Rumors about how Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer conduct themselves away from the ballpark have made their rounds on social media.
They only escalated after Anthony’s rehab was moved to Fort Myers and many wondered if it was due to punishment and not a crowded Red Sox clubhouse.
Does Chad Tracy have any concerns about the duo when they’re not at the park?
“Zero,” the Red Sox interim manager said on WEEI. “Not even remotely on my radar. Not something we’ve even talked about in here. I’ve tried to say here publicly the last couple days.
