The Houston Texans still could be adding in a name or two ahead of their first preseason game.
According to the latest NFL transaction report, the Texans tried out both running backs Alexander Mattison and Hassan Haskins on Thursday. Neither player was signed to a contract, but the Texans could re-explore a deal later on this week.
The 28-year-old former Boise State running back has rushed for 2,370 yards during his five seasons in Minnesota and Las Vegas. During his rookie season, Mattison rushed for a career-high 700 yards that season, but he did not score a rushing touchdown and eventually lost the secondary role to Ty Chandler.
Haskins has only rushed for 229 yards and two touchdowns during his time with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Right now, the Texans have little room for a running back with the additions of David Montgomery and Noah Whittington, but it doesn't hurt to at least look.

The UTEP men's basketball team's Mexican travels picked up another destination, as the Miners are headed to the Cancun Challenge.
The Cancun Challenge, which is Nov. 24-25, is a four-team Thanksgiving tournament where they will play the College of Charleston and either Kennesaw State or Eastern Michigan.
Two weeks later, they conclude the multi-national event at Don Haskins Center when they host North Dakota (not to be confused with new Mountain West member North Dakota State) on Dec. 5. That tip-off time has not been set but likely will be 7 p.m.
The Nov. 24 game against Charleston will tip at 6:30 p.m. MT, while the Nov. 25 game against the Kennesaw/Eastern Michigan winner is TBA.
"The opportunity to play in the Cancun Challenge is a great honor for UTEP basketball and we look forward to being tested against three quality opponents," UTEP coach Joe Golding said. "Many great teams have played in this MTE (multi-team event) in the past, and we're excited to add UTEP's name to the list. It's another great chance to play on a big college basketball stage early in the season with a brand-new team."

Scottie Scheffler is looking up at one of the most exciting rookies on the PGA Tour heading into the second round of the 2026 3M Open.
The world No. 1 started out strong with a 6-under 65, three strokes behind Ben Kohles. But the one to watch early on is Jackson Koivun, the 21-year-old who won the Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan and Fred Haskins award twice apiece at Auburn. In his third tournament as a full card-carrying PGA Tour member, Koivun shot a bogey-free round of 7-under 64. He's tied with Emiliano Grillo after Round 1.
Lucas Glover, Gary Woodland and Michael Brennan look to climb farther up the leaderboard today. There's a lot of room for movement around the cut line at TPC Twin Cities, with Hideki Matsuyama among those right on the projected cut line.

South Korean fervor in Mexico has been years in the making, growing into a mass movement that has seen President Claudia Sheinbaum share a balcony with K-pop royalty BTS, and visiting World Cup fans greeted with the chant: "Korean, my brother, you're now Mexican."
But that blossoming relationship will be put to the test in Guadalajara on Thursday as the two countries face each other in a group stage clash.
"Koreans and Mexicans are like brothers and sisters," said Annie, a South Korean visiting Guadalajara from California for the game.
The bond between Korea and Mexico is one of the world's stranger geo-cultural love fests. Though the two are separated by language, 12,000 kilometers, and a 15-hour time difference, Korean influence has nonetheless gained a foothold here.

CARLSBAD, Calif. — Jackson Koivun has an argument to be considered the best amateur golfer of this century.
He's a two-time Fred Haskins Award winner. He's also a two-time Ben Hogan Award recipient. And on Wednesday, Koivun became a two-time national champion, as the junior helped Auburn capture its second ****** le in three years, knocking off UCLA 3-0 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
The biggest question in the aftermath of Auburn's victory was around Koivun's status. He has a year left of college golf, if he chooses to return, but he also has a PGA Tour card in his pocket and can turn pro and join the Tour immediately, too.
Golf Channel's Emilia Doran asked Koivun what his plans were in the aftermath of the Tigers' celebration on the 18th green.
"We'll see," Koivun said. "We're gonna get back to Auburn and recoup..."
