Barcelona's young Pau Cubarsi was one of the mainstays in that resilient defence, and did exceedingly well as a teenager to keep his cool and perform under the highest of pressure.
Eventually, he was even rewarded for his exploits and named the best young player of the World Cup.
Now, FIFA president Gianni Infantino took to his official Instagram account to appreciate the Barcelona defender and put his numbers into perspective.

When Giants running back Cam Skattebo did a backflip while recovering from an injury, coach John Harbaugh joked that he should have stuck the landing. When a couple of oft-injured Packers players did backflips, coach Matt LaFleur took a harder line.
Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd and wide receiver Christian Watson, both of whom have been injury-prone, both did backflip celebrations, and LaFleur told them to knock it off.
Lloyd said after a training camp practice that LaFleur told him to stop.
"I've always been able to do it," Lloyd told reporters. "Coach LaFleur doesn't want me to do it no more. . . . He said it was cool, but he said, 'Let's not do that.'"
Lloyd said LaFleur told Watson to stop the backflips, too.

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Romania raced on Thursday to sink four barges laden with rock into the Danube River in an attempt to redirect water downstream toward a nuclear power plant, to buy more time before its second reactor is likely forced offline due to record-low water levels.
Extreme heatwaves and low rainfall across the region have left the Danube at record lows over the past week, forcing the shutdown of a reactor at Romania's Cernavoda nuclear plant last week. The state-owned nuclear power plant accounts for about 20% of the country's electricity generation when fully operational and uses river water to cool its reactors.
The four barges were loaded with rock that Romania's military blasted from the river this week using explosives near the Danube's Bala Canal. Once submerged, the barges will create an underwater barrier to redirect the water down the river's main channel and toward the Cernavoda plant.
Speaking to local news channel Digi24, the plant's director Romeo Urjan said Thursday the Danube's water level had decreased about two centimeters (0.7 inches) from Wednesday to Thursday and that, without sinking the barges, the plant's second reactor would likely have to be shut down in five to six days.
"If the installed barges bring surplus water ... instead of five to six days, we will talk about nine to 10 days of operation from today onward," he said.

Day one of study hall, as coach Jedd Fisch called Thursday's fall practice, is in the books for the Washington Huskies.
With no pads on and no team period drills, the majority of practice was spent working on individual drills with position coaches and special teams, as Fisch wanted to allow his team to get its feet under it and get back to the basics with a month to go before the Huskies open the season Sunday, September 6, with the annual Apple Cup matchup against the Washington State Cougars.
"It's all about getting better, it's all about improving our fundamentals," the head coach said after practice.
"I view this as study hall...it helps the kids gain confidence, especially young, first day at training camp practice, and you're a freshman, anxiety, and nerves, and you're like, 'Oh, what is it gonna look like?' It's a lot easier to kind of work your way into it. So by the time you're actually hitting somebody, you've gone through this enough time that you feel confident."
While that group is headlined by a pair of four-star freshmen who enrolled in June, cornerback Rahsjon Duncan and defensive lineman JD Hill, it also extended to a group of transfers going through their first practices as Huskies after missing all of spring while recovering from injuries: running backs Jayden Limar and Trey Cooley, and defensive tackle Kai McClendon.

BEREA ― Jared Verse had spent the better part of nearly two hours making life miserable for Browns rookie left tackle Spencer Fano during training camp practice. The 15 or 20 minutes after practice, the Pro Bowl defensive end was going to do his part to help his teammate.
So there on the hot practice field, as others headed toward the cool of the locker room, was Verse working one-on-one with Fano. With each move he showed the young tackle, he explained some of the secrets to counter what he was doing.
"That's really cool," Browns coach Todd Monken said the next day. "I walked up to Jared and said, 'man, we're so lucky you're a Brown. I mean holy s*** how cool is this?' Because he's not only a great leader, but he also works his rear end off every day, and after practice he's trying to get Spencer better. I stood right behind him listening to what he was talking about, and it was bang, bang, bang, five reps in a row of his footwork, then talking through what he was going to do, how he could redirect, how he could use his hands and punch. It was within five reps I saw Spencer get better."

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's leadership has often been defined by more than his tactical decisions on the field. Over the years, the former India captain built a reputation for creating a comfortable dressing-room atmosphere, with several teammates crediting him for helping youngsters settle into the international setup.
One of the traditions that became synonymous with Dhoni during tours was his ever-open hotel room. Players, particularly the younger members of the squad, frequently gathered there to relax, chat and play mobile or video games away from the intensity of international cricket.
Former India batter Ajinkya Rahane, who played alongside Dhoni for India as well as IPL franchises Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiant, shared an insight into that culture during an appearance on the Overlap Cricket YouTube channel.
According to Rahane, Dhoni's room often turned into a meeting point for the squad, with teammates dropping in throughout the day. However, there was one unwritten rule that everyone followed.
"He's (MS Dhoni) very calm and cool and just a very normal human being like everyone. His room was almost always open for anyone to do anything. So many times, 10 to 15 of them or even the whole team was in his room. But when his door was shut, no one was allowed," said Rahane on Overlap Cricket YouTube.
Dhoni's future as a player continues to be unclear after he missed the entire IPL 2026 season because of a leg injury. The 44-year-old did not play a single match for Chennai Super Kings, and there has been no official confirmation on whether he will return for another season.
Rahane, meanwhile, recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, bringing the curtain down on both his international and domestic career.

On July 26, the right-handed pitcher was told he was being promoted from Double-A Portland to Triple-A Worcester. Four days later, he made his Triple-A debut on the road.
On Wednesday, Holobetz made his first start in a WooSox uniform at Polar Park — throwing four innings while allowing five hits and zero runs and striking out two.

Although the transportation market cooled in July from a seasonally stronger June, it remained very tight, according to data from a monthly survey of supply chain professionals. Key transportation metrics in the Logistics Managers' Index showed mixed results, with capacity falling faster while pricing grew at a slightly slower pace.
The index is a diffusion index in which a reading above 50 indicates expansion, while one below 50 signals contraction. The LMI displayed a 28.4 reading for transportation capacity in July. Sentiment around capacity declined at a rate that was 2.4 percentage points faster than June, tying the second-fastest contraction rate captured by the 10-year-old dataset. (The record-low reading was 23.8 in September 2020.)
A push by regulatory authorities to remove unsafe drivers has significantly tightened supply in the truckload market. Further, most publicly traded carriers aren't adding equipment, instead making better use of what they have.

NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma announced its football tailgating plans for the 2026 season on Wednesday.
The school is keeping the North Oval as the centerpiece of Sooners gameday and will continue to keep the area free and open for public tailgating, according to a release. Fans are encouraged to continue bringing their own tents, chairs and tailgating equipment following the success of last season's debut in the area.
OU also announced a new addition to its tailgating scene — turnkey packages at nearby Boyd Lawn. Fans looking for a hassle-free experience can now reserve professionally managed turnkey tailgating packages, which includes fully furnished tailgating setups, allowing groups to simply arrive and enjoy gameday without the work of setup or teardown.
"The response to opening the North Oval for public tailgating last season exceeded our expectations," OU president Joseph Harroz Jr said in a release. "Sooner Nation embraced the opportunity to gather on one of the most iconic places on campus, creating an incredible gameday atmosphere. As we continue to enhance the fan experience, we're excited to add a new turnkey tailgating option at Boyd Lawn while preserving the North Oval as a free tradition that every fan can enjoy."

CHICAGO − If Charles Correa was still looking for confirmation that his transfer from UNLV to Purdue football a year ago was the right move, he got it at Big Ten Media Days.
As the junior linebacker was conducting interviews, sitting to his left were his parents, who raised Correa more than 4,000 miles away in Kuli'ou'ou, Hawaii.
Families of Purdue's Big Ten Media Days attendees - Correa, receiver De'Nylon Morrissette and quarterback Ryan Browne - were invited guests courtesy of Purdue's football program.
Each school is allotted six VIP passes for the event, this year at the Hilton Chicago. Those passes typically get bestowed to university representatives or donors. Head coach Barry Odom, setting a family-first culture in his second year leading the Boilermakers, wanted those closest to his players to get the behind-the-scenes access.
"They're the reason I am here to begin with," Correa said of having his parents by his side. "I owe them everything up to this point in my life, and for them to be able to experience all these cool things with me has been truly special."

The last time the Washington Huskies took the field for the Dawgs After Dark spring game, wide receiver Rashid Williams had the marquee moment.
Williams, a former four-star recruit in the 2023 class and projected starting receiver for coach Jedd Fisch this fall, hauled in a 45-yard deep shot from junior quarterback Demond Williams Jr. with just over three minutes in the first half for the first touchdown of the evening back on May 1.
"Huge couple of big plays from Rashid," Fisch said after the game. "Rashid's had a great spring. This is the first spring since we've been here that he's stayed healthy the whole spring. Then, obviously missing almost all of last season, to be able to have him come back and take on that leadership role and be able to make some of those plays tonight with Demond was fun to see."
"Obviously the big touchdown was great. And then, also the sideline toe-tap was pretty cool. It's been great to see Rashid step up and be the guy we know he's going to be all season."
When he arrived in Seattle in June 2023, the Pittsburg High School product had to wait behind the future NFL trio of Rome Odunze, Jalen McMillan and Ja'Lynn Polk—plus eventual starter turned draft pick Denzel Boston—before last season, when Williams was viewed as the next receiver to fill the void and potentially replicate Boston's production.
