CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Katin Houser threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score in his Illinois debut as the Illini defeated UAB 42-23 on Thursday night in a season opener.
Houser, who transferred from East Carolina, completed 13 of 17 passes for 182 yards. Collin Dixon caught six passes for 70 yards and two TDs, and Ca'Lil Valentine rushed 11 times for 88 yards and a score.
UAB's Ryder Burton completed 18 of 33 passes for 219 yards and a TD. He also rushed for a score. Jonah Delange kicked three field goals for the Blazers.
Illinois scored two TDs on its first six plays and led 21-13 at halftime.
A 65-yard punt return by Mac Resetich set up the first TD — an 18-yard pass from Houser to Dixon. Valentine scored on a 51-yard run.

The filmmaker stepped in after Brenda Daurham's home repairs sparked a dispute between her insurer and contractor.
Tyler Perry is paying it forward for an 81-year-old former hair stylist in need.
Perry is stepping up for Brenda Daurham, a widow who was displaced from her home thanks to a Valentine's Day pipe burst and a massive fight between her insurance company and the repair company that helped restore her home.
Daurham, who was facing an $18K mechanic's lien due to the repairs not being paid for by Allstate, is having the lien paid for by Perry, who took to Instagram and issued a warning to the insurance giant, wondering why they were not living up to their company slogan in this instance.
"Hey AllState!! Step to the front real quick," Perry began his post. "This woman is 81 years old. You call this being in good hands?"

The Miami Dolphins could be looking to make a move to bolster their defensive secondary. According to Easton Butler, the Dolphins have been in contact with the Green Bay Packers about the availability of cornerback Carrington Valentine. Given Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley moved to Miami this offseason after having been the Packers' defenisve coordinator, there is a familiarity with Valentine built into the Dolphins' decision makers.
Valentine was a seventh-round pick by the Packers in 2023. Since being selected, he has appeared in 49 games, including 30 starts, and recorded 107 tackles, 18 passes defensed, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.
According to Butler, the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers have also reached out to Green Bay about Valentine's availability. The Packers have Valentine listed as a starter on their unofficial depth chart, and they could be looking to keep him in that role heading into the season – making a trade unlikely unless some team is willing to overpay in the deal. Green Bay already has question marks at depth for their cornerbacks and is dealing with injuries, including a hamstring issue for Valentine, and it would again seem to make a trade unlikely.
Would you make a trade for Valentine? What would you offer the Packers to add the former seventh-round pick? Head to the comments to let us know.

The Cincinnati Bengals don't typically do much wheeling and dealing, but we have seen them be a bit more aggressive in that regard in the Zac Taylor era.
We could see them pull something similar off as they reportedly have asked about Green Bay Packers corner Carrington Valentine, according to Easton Butler.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins have also reportedly called about Valentine's availability.
The 6-foot, 189-pound Valentine would instantly improve the depth at the boundary corner position. DJ Turner and Dax Hill are locked in as starters, but Hill himself is already dealing with a hamstring issue. The only names behind them are DJ Ivey and rookie Tacario Davis, neither of whom is very experienced in getting NFL snaps on defense.
As for what the Bengals could offer, it could simply resemble a trade that helped fuel their last Super Bowl run. They traded center Billy Price for the New York Giants defensive tackle B.J. Hill. You simply need to look where the Bengals are deepest, and it is wide receiver and defensive tackle.

Green Bay Packers cornerback Kesiean Nixon is battling to hold onto his starting job.
This was supposed to be a quiet, uneventful summer in Green Bay — where most starting jobs seemed settled a month ago.
Or so we thought.
Instead, several positional battles have unfolded. Here's a look at those, and a prediction of how they'll end.
Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine were the starters in 2025. Both could be coming off the bench, or in different uniforms in 2026.

CHICAGO (AP) — It started as a limited promotion for a specialty theme night. Then the Chicago White Sox heard from their fans.
Everyone wanted a pope-themed hat.
"When things go bananas ... that's when it gets really fun," said Brooks Boyer, Chicago's chief revenue and marketing officer.
Fun is the overarching theme when it comes to stadium giveaways, and business has been good at major league ballparks this year.
An array of creative promotions — everything from the New York Mets handing out fake glasses and mustaches for a Bobby Valentine Disguise Night to the Texas Rangers giving away a Nolan Ryan ***** lip jersey — has played at least a small role in an MLB-wide average attendance of 29,618 through Tuesday's games, the highest such number for a full season since 2017.

The Green Bay Packers are planning on playing healthy starters against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, according to head coach Matt LaFleur. Before practice on Tuesday, LaFleur stated that even quarterback Jordan Love is expected to play versus the Steelers, though he added that he has the right to change his mind between now and kickoff.
Here's what you missed during the Packers' final practice of preparation leading up to their preseason opener.
Cornerback Domani Jackson's injury has finally been identified. Per LaFleur, Jackson had surgery to his core over the offseason, but he's hopeful that Jackson will "be out there shortly."
Receiver Jayden Reed (ankle), receiver Matthew Golden (toe) and tight end Josh Whyle (neck) all returned to practice today. I think we can all collectively exhale for the status of the pass-catching group. Cornerback Carrington Valentine (hamstring) is also back out on the field.
Running back Josh Jacobs (groin), edge defender Dani Dennis-Sutton (illness) and safety Javon Bullard (foot) join Jackson as injured players on the active list. Meanwhile, tight end Luke Musgrave (neck), edge defender Micah Parsons (knee), defensive lineman Jordon Riley (ankle) and long snapper Matt Orzech (calf) remain on the team's PUP list.

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) has been a part of the Northeast-10 since 2000, just a year before they changed their name from New Hampshire College to SNHU. The Penmnen captured two conference championships in 2013 and 2019. SNHU was a goal away from a third **** le, but ended up bested by **** umption in a 2024 double overtime nail bitter.

SNHU places athletic director, men's hockey coach on administrative leaveNews 9 has learned that the director of athletics and recreation and the men's head hockey coach for Southern New Hampshire University have been placed on administrative leave.
Currently, the team is looking to bounce back after a tumultuous 2025-26. On Oct. 3, 2025 SNHU Director of Athletics and Recreation Anthony Fallacaro and Head Coach Sean Walsh were placed on administrative leave. This shakeup no doubt had an impact on the ice, as the Penmen went 5-14-1, their worst finish since 2011-12.

The New York Giants — and our esteemed editor Ed Valentine — are at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, for John Harbaugh's first training camp as head football coach of the Giants. Mike Renner wrote a detailed article ranking and evaluating 191 first-round selections since 2020.
Rather than simply ranking the best players drafted in the first round from 2020-2025, Mike Renner of CBS Sports evaluated each decision from the team's point of view and the draft slot the player was selected. It's not just Renner ranking the players, but also the value of the pick itself. The 2026 draft was not included, but the 2020-2025 classes are, and Renner breaks down his ranking in thirds.
Renner used three tiers to organize the 191 first-round selections. He then shifted to a team-by-team audit, explaining which franchises consistently made good decisions, which repeatedly missed, and what trends define each front office's drafting philosophy.
Here are all the picks that the New York Giants made in the first round since 2020:
Of the eight first-round picks that the Giants selected since 2020, Renner had four in the top third and four in the bottom third. Renner had this to say about the Giants' ****** sment:

Here's an interesting question going into training camp: Which Green Bay Packers rookie do you think will have the biggest impact in 2026? To me, there are probably three potential answers.
The first two are fairly similar. If there's any competition in camp for starting roles, it's on the defensive line or at cornerback.
On the defensive line, the **** umption is that Devonte Wyatt will be a starting defensive end in the Packers' new 3-4 defense. Javon Hargrave has played both end and nose tackle in the past, so the question is really which position he will play, rather than if he will start. That third defensive line spot could go to a multitude of candidates, though, including rookie third-round pick Chris McClellan from Missouri.
Cornerback is a similar story where it's **** umed that Keisean Nixon will be a starter (and safety Javon Bullard will be the starter in the slot). The other outside cornerback job should go to one of Carrington Valentine, free agent signing Benjamin St-Juste or rookie second-round pick Brandon Cisse.
The last player I think will be a popular answer is kicker Trey Smack, who the Packers traded up for in the sixth round. Smack had a little bit of an up-and-down spring, but Green Bay thought enough of him to make him the only drafted kicker in the 2026 class and released Brandon McManus shortly after his selection.

The American-born Princess was seen with her gorgeous, bright red hair smiling at her parents, as she celebrated her happy occasion at home in Montecito, California, with her older brother, Prince Archie. The image was accompanied by a heartfelt birthday tribute to the couple's youngest child, whom Meghan described as their "dream girl".
"Our dream girl. Happy 5th birthday, Lili [white heart emoji]," wrote Meghan.
The new picture continues a tradition the ****** ss has embraced in recent years, using birthdays and family milestones to share carefully selected snapshots of Archie and Lilibet.
While the Sussexes remain fiercely protective of their children's privacy, Meghan has increasingly offered followers glimpses into life at the family's Montecito home through her social media accounts.
