Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) blasted President Trump on Thursday for ordering the U.S. Navy to revert to older catapult systems on its aircraft carriers, arguing the change would be costly while questioning Trump's qualifications to make such a call.
"He's a marginally failed real estate developer with multiple bankruptcies," Kelly said in an interview with MS NOW. "He shouldn't be weighing in on systems, on aircraft carriers."
Trump earlier Thursday directed the Navy to return to steam-powered catapults and hydraulic systems on its Ford-class aircraft carriers, ditching the newer electromagnetic technology.
The order would require changes to future carriers, including the USS Doris Miller, which is currently under construction and already slated to use the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS).
Kelly, a former Navy combat pilot and NASA astronaut who sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee, warned the move would force the Navy to redesign ships that are well into development and are "probably going to cost billions of dollars."

The chance for McCarthy to lead his hometown team brought the first-year Pittsburgh Steelers coach to tears when he was hired in January. The image last April of Heidenreich walking onto the draft stage in full Naval dress uniform outside Acrisure Stadium — just a few miles from the Mount Lebanon neighborhood where he grew up — felt like something out of a movie.
Their respective homecomings have provided plenty of "fairy tale" narratives during an eventful offseason for the typically low-key Steelers. And while there will be a little bit of "hey, is this really happening?" on Thursday night when they walk onto the field for the first time as the Steelers host Green Bay in the preseason opener, they're both aware of the reality check that awaits under the lights.

MOSCOW, Aug 12 (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russia will respond in kind if European countries start to seize Russian merchant vessels and the commander of Russia's Pacific Fleet said his forces were ready to "inspect and detain" foreign vessels from what he called hostile states.
The comments, which Putin made as he oversaw navy drills in Russia's far east, come as the EU tries to ratchet up pressure on Russia's so-called shadow fleet, expanding sanctions against hundreds of vessels and detaining some ships and their crews for checks. Some European governments have said they are exploring tougher maritime enforcement measures against ships suspected of sanctions evasion.
"We can see that the authorities of certain countries, in violation of international maritime law, are attempting to restrict the movement of our economic operators' vessels..., and have recently gone so far as to consider the possibility of seizing our vessels and selling off the property they have plundered from us," Putin said.
"Naturally, this is nothing less than piracy and robbery. And if this begins to be put into practice, we shall be forced to respond in kind. And not necessarily in those waters where raids on our ships and vessels are planned, but wherever we ourselves deem it necessary and appropriate."

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Cardinals will bring back a longtime uniform tradition starting this weekend, switching back to navy blue caps as their primary road caps.
Since 2013, the Cardinals have primarily worn red caps with their gray road jerseys, essentially using the same primary cap as they do with their home uniforms. That is, with one exception... When facing opponents that also wear read caps at their home ballparks, like Cincinnati Reds or Washington Nationals.
Now, that's about to change.

Few, if any, movie stars achieve the level of celebrity of Paul Newman without good fortune. No one recognized that more than the screen legend himself.
Newman's luck did not begin with his three-year stint in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He understood during his years in the Pacific (and then in Hollywood) that fate fell in his favor more than once.

If a pilot in his squadron hadn't come down with an ear issue, Newman might have died at Okinawa—one of the bloodiest battles in military history. Then Newman was supposed to take part in the invasion of mainland ***** an. Dubbed Operation Downfall, Allied commanders called it off after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

A loaded 2028 class in the state of Arizona has national appeal with suitors for the top prospects spanning the country.
It is a defensive-heavy group, especially with the top three recruits in the state, but there is plenty of offensive firepower in the state.
Here is a look at some of the top recruits in the Grand Canyon State and how their recruitments are lining up.
–Goodyear (Ariz.) Desert Edge edge Jalanie George is the highest-rated defensive prospect in the 2028 class by Rivals. In May, George named a top six of, alphabetically, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Washington. He plans to visit Auburn when they host Florida on September 19 and he's working on finalizing a visit to Ohio State. Two of his teammates are committed to Washington, 2027 quarterback Blake Roskopf and receiver Zerek Sidney and he said he wants to get to Husky Stadium this fall and Oklahoma is also likely to get him to visit with his committed teammate Mikyal Davis. In June, he camped at Miami and also made a multi-day visit to Florida and said he hit it off with head coach Jon Sumrall. He plans to trim his list once more this fall and hopes to have a decision in January at the Navy All-American Bowl.
–Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton cornerback Keaton Fields maintains he's completely wide open and won't even hint at schools standing out. Arizona State offered him in June as part of the Golden Ticket push, and his father played for the Sun Devils, and he said they were one of three schools recruiting him the hardest along with Texas A&M, which has had major success in the state the last two years, as well as USC, where his teammate, Roye Oliver is committed.

Irvine (Calif.) Crean Lutheran defensive back Jacob Whitehead has committed to Arizona and broke down why he chose the Wildcats.
"I'm very excited about my decision," Whitehead said. "There were a lot of reasons why I chose Arizona but the biggest was my connection with the coaching staff.
"I have great relationships with the coaches there and really feel accepted by everyone. I love how excited they are to add me to such a great program and I love the all around fit."
Whitehead is a player we first saw as a middle schooler at the Under the Radar Camp four years ago. He burst on to the scene at Inglewood his first two years of high school before transferring in to St. John Bosco last fall.
He battled some injuries with the Braves and missed much of his junior season but played in the Navy All-American Bowl in January and then made the move in to Crean Lutheran this off-season.

TMZ released the report, which comes as an investigation into the 18-year-old football player's death continues. Wells was last seen on July 4 after traveling to Mississippi's Horn Island with friends. His body was found two days after he was reported missing.
The boats in the photo include the Triton, which took on water before leaving. Wells' friend, Warren Hudson, says the group begged Wells to return with them, but he decided to stay behind. The report states the boat left at 4:31 p.m.
Flock camera contracts canceled in 23 jurisdictions

They immediately shifted their focus behind them to render honors as the American flag was lowered. Williams wasn't so much offended as mildly perplexed. At first, he didn't understand what was going on.

Once the service members explained it to Williams, he brought it back to why he traveled 8,000 miles from home.
"Sort of reminds you why we're here, doesn't it?" Williams replied, according to a 2014 Defense Department article.

We start with the OG of military entertainers. Hope performed for troops domestically and overseas for five decades, beginning with a performance at March Field in California in 1941. Hope, whose "Road to…" films with Bing Crosby became popular with moviegoers, never tired of traveling to see troops.
His 57 tours with the United Service Organizations conveyed his appreciation to his adopted country. Born in London in 1903, Hope moved to America at an early age. He became a U.S. citizen when he was 17 years old.
"He brought such enthusiasm, brought your life back to you," Navy Seabee Ron Ronning said of Hope's last USO show during the Vietnam War in late 1972. "You felt like you were renewed."
Hope died on July 27, 2003, at the age of 100.

Lee Greenwood has "God Bless the USA," perhaps the quintessential patriotic song. Few singers, though, compiled a music catalog that honored the military quite like Keith.
The "American Soldier," "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue," and "Call a Marine" singer participated in 18 USO tours. By one estimate, he performed in front of 250,000-plus troops in 17 countries. When mortar fire interrupted a set in Afghanistan, Keith left the stage. He and troops sprinted about a hundred yards to a concrete bunker. There, he signed autographs until he could return to doing what he did best.
"I've met so many great, brave service men and women over the years and had so many wonderful experiences, that I can barely remember them all," Keith said in 2012. "… I won't ever stop doing my part to extend my thanks."
Keith died in 2024 at the age of 62.

With over 40 flight hours logged and simulated emergency landings already under her belt, the San Diego native has a different definition of pressure than most people her age, and that's helped her on the court in more ways than one.
Boone was raised by Navy veterans, and that has helped her handle high-pressure situations on the court. She is currently working through Aerovision to earn her pilot's license. So, when the dial spins or the plane starts losing altitude, Boone is who you want in the ******* pit. She's also who you want taking clutch shots.
Compared to keeping an aircraft in the sky, taking a heavily contested 3-pointer in the Southeastern Conference is a walk in the park.

Prince Louis proved he is the royal family's undisputed king of facial expressions as he joined his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and older brother Prince George at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
