(NewsNation) — The Juneau, Alaska, community is mourning the loss of 16-year-olds Leotis Phillips and Zoey Clark after they were found dead in the woods with a gun on Monday.
"I can't imagine the pain they were in to make this decision," Ariah Clark, a cousin of Zoey Clark, said at a candlelight vigil Tuesday, according to the Juneau Independent. The outlet reported that more than 150 friends, family and teachers gathered at Clark's high school for the vigil, near where the teens' bodies were found.

"The only comfort I think any of us can find at this point is that they weren't alone and they found peace in those last moments together," Clark added. "They wouldn't want any of us to continue to suffer because that was not their goal and intention."

Nova Minerals Corp (ASX:NVA, NYSE-A:NVA) has shipped almost 500 tons (454 tons) of antimony processing and refining equipment to Alaska, marking a major step towards construction of its Port MacKenzie facility and targeted first production in 2027.
The shipment includes crushing, ore sorting, milling, flotation, and refining equipment packed into more than 40 containers, along with several oversized loads.
A barge carrying the equipment departed Seattle on August 26 and is expected to reach Port MacKenzie in early September, allowing construction of the processing facilities to begin.
The development forms part of Nova's strategy to establish a vertically integrated US antimony supply chain linking its Estelle Gold and Critical Minerals Project with downstream processing and refining infrastructure in Alaska.
Nova acquired a recently decommissioned modern processing facility in North America, together with additional equipment sourced elsewhere across the continent, before consolidating the plant in Seattle for shipment north.

Brennan ******* et Management recently released its Q2 2026 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. Investors were optimistic about a potential truce with Iran, highlighted by a mid-June memorandum for negotiations on regional security and sanctions, causing oil prices to drop and the market to rally. Despite geopolitical uncertainties, investors remain focused on a surge in AI infrastructure spending, which is expected to heavily influence the global economy, although questions about the returns from this investment loom. Overall, the S&P 500 remains at high valuations, seemingly unfazed by these challenges, while there are few pockets of value left, mostly outside the U.S. market. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Brennan ******* et Management highlighted Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK). Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK) is a communication services company that provides a range of data, wireless, video, voice, and managed services. GCI Liberty, Inc. rebranded to Liberty Capital Corporation in May 2026. On August 31, 2026, Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK) closed at $26.03 per share. Over the past month, Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK) returned 8.78%, but its shares are down 28.94% over the past year. Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK) has a market capitalization of $1.04 billion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $19.30 to $41.18.
Brennan ******* et Management stated the following regarding Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
Liberty Capital Corporation (NASDAQ:GLIBK): "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!": In our Q4 2024 letter, we described our unfavorable investment history with Liberty Latin America (LILAK) and explained our reasons for substantially exiting the position and reinvesting the proceeds in TIGO. In the letter, we blamed ourselves for giving LILAK's management team too much slack even though operating performance continued to contradict their rosy projections. Selling shares in a longer-term holding that has not worked is no fun, but it is part of the investment process.
In our Q3 2025 letter, we detailed our investment in GCI Liberty (later renamed Liberty Capital) and described how we felt that the company traded substantially below the value of the Alaska Cable business, which implied that investors were seemingly ascribing negative value to the prospects of deals from John Malone and company. We noted how investors would have flocked to this type of investment 10 years ago, but the underperformance of US cable and several other Liberty names had caused a severe inversion to anything cable related..." Taylor Zakhar Perez is living his best life!
The handsome actor is already having a stellar year since he starred in a ******* y underwear campaign with Lacoste back in January and even posed in tight white briefs on the cover of VMAN in March.
Now, Perez is sharing brand new photos from a recent vacation to Alaska and multiple platforms are eating up his ******* y pics. In a couple of snaps on Instagram, the star poses with his family as he surfs, spends time with his dogs, and even enjoys a helicopter ride.
Naturally, all of the content has fans eagerly counting down the days until Red, White & Royal Wedding finally premieres later this year. In his interview with VMAN, the star dished on everything in store and why fans will fall in love with Alex Claremont-Diaz even more.
"Stepping back into Alex after all this time feels like reuniting with an old friend who's grown up alongside you. The first film was this whirlwind of discovery, for the character, for me, for the audience, and now there's this added layer of maturity that Alex clearly didn't have in the first one," Perez tells VMAN.

The final game of the Seattle Seahawks' 2026 preseason is just hours away, and once the game ends it'll be all about forming the 53-man roster and 16-man practice squad for the regular season.
Seattle wraps up its August on the road versus the Kansas City Chiefs, whom they'll be seeing in the regular season at Lumen Field at the end of October. There will be no starters playing for the Seahawks and highly likely the same will apply to the Chiefs, so it's one last chance for players who are just trying to make the team.
NFL preseason television rights are different than regular season, so we're here to simplify tonight's situation. KING-5 NBC, Seattle's flagship station for Seahawks preseason games and other local Seahawks television programming, is carrying Seahawks-Chiefs locally. KING-5's broadcasts are also shown on other television affiliates in the Seahawks' secondary markets, which include Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, and Hawaii. Then there are mobile and online streaming options whether you're in Seattle, somewhere else in the USA, or overseas!
Here's a quick How to Watch guide.
On Friday, Aug. 28 at 5 pm PT, with pre-game coverage on KING-5 starting at 4:30 pm PT.

On August 20, Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR) and Liberty Broadband Corporation (NASDAQ:LBRDK) made major waves after announcing a multi-party transaction alongside **** Communications. Charter acquired Liberty Broadband while issuing ~46 million shares to **** , absorbing $12 billion of **** debt, and retiring 38.6 million Charter shares previously held by Liberty. The combined entity will eventually rebrand its parent name to **** Communications while operating as Spectrum. However, looking past the complex corporate restructuring, a comparison of their Q2 2026 financials reveals distinct operational realities for both companies.
Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR) generated Q2 2026 revenue of $13.5 billion, down 1.7% year-over-year, primarily dragged down by a 9.7% drop in residential video revenue. Net income totaled $1.3 billion, while Adjusted EBITDA declined 4.3% to $5.4 billion. Charter's underlying business faced notable headwinds: broadband net additions turned negative with a loss of 172,000 Internet customers, bringing total Internet subscribers to 29.4 million. The bright spot remained Spectrum Mobile, which added 406,000 mobile lines in Q2 to reach 12.5 million lines, driving mobile revenue up 18.9% to $1.095 billion.
Liberty Broadband Corporation (NASDAQ:LBRDK) historically operated primarily as a holding vehicle for its stake in Charter alongside ownership of GCI (Alaska's dominant telecom provider). For Q2 2026, Liberty Broadband's standalone performance reflected GCI's steady operational baseline, generating steady regional revenue and positive free cash flow. However, because over 80% of Liberty Broadband's net **** et value was tied directly to its Charter common stock ownership, Liberty's financial health was effectively a leveraged reflection of Charter's core performance.
In terms of financial strength, CHTR is performing better execution-wise as an operating entity. While facing cable broadband saturation, Charter generates massive operational scale with $3.9 billion in quarterly operating cash flow and $969 million in free cash flow. LBRDK, while maintaining a cleaner balance sheet, lacked independent organic growth drivers to outpace Charter's operating cash generation.
Charter Communications' bull case is supported by the transaction's potential to simplify its ownership structure by eliminating the Liberty holding company discount while integrating **** 's **** ets, creating a combined company with approximately 31.5 million customer relationships. Wireless convergence also continues to gain traction, with Spectrum Mobile lines increasing 15.5% year over year and providing a potential long-term growth engine to offset losses in the core cable business. Meanwhile, subsidized rural expansion, including 127,000 additional passings in Q2, creates opportunities to capture untapped regional market share.

DALLAS (AP) — A California couple in an escalating fight with their surrogate over a newborn with a life-threatening heart defect told a Texas court Tuesday that the child's condition has worsened and they are anguished by attempts to deny them parental rights because they previously wanted an abortion.
"He's our child," Nausheen Gilkar said, wiping away tears on the witness stand.
"She's unstable," Gilkar said of surrogate McKenna West, who was sitting across from her in the Dallas courtroom. "She's trying to take him from us."
The hearing offered the fullest public airing to date of a deepening and high-profile dispute over surrogacy and abortion that has rushed right-to-life groups and GOP officeholders to the side of West, a nurse who flew from Alaska to have the baby on Aug. 12 in Texas, where most abortions are banned.
Gilkar and her husband, Omar Ahmed, say they named the newborn Rumi. Attorneys for West, who has called the child Gabriel, said she is seeking sole conservatorship to make medical decisions for the child.

In addition to fending off a Democratic challenger, Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, is wrestling against confusion caused by a candidate who shares his name — Dan J. Sullivan Jr., an independent — and a shrinking window to clear it up.
Alaska state Sen. James Kaufman, a Republican, said he personally remains worried about conflation between the two.
"I've had at least one person say they had to slow down to make sure they didn't make a mistake. And I can only imagine people who are less engaged in politics — I think it can be confusing," Kaufman said.
Results on Tuesday seem to confirm his hunch.
Sullivan Jr.'s campaign, which has focused on his background as a logger, has meaningfully splintered support from the incumbent Republican candidate in the primary — but not enough to create ambiguity about who the frontrunner was in the primary. Now, the question becomes whether the Sullivan look-alike will have a proportional impact in November, given Alaska's ranked choice voting system, a larger pool of voters and more time for Republicans to warn voters about the dueling Sullivans.

ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) picked a good week to hand over the keys. On August 6, the company said that CEO Ryan Lance will retire after 14 years, with CFO Andy O'Brien stepping in on September 1, right when ConocoPhillips had its best quarterly results since 2022. Adjusted profit came in at $3.24 a share, well ahead of the $2.88 Wall Street expected, and revenue jumped 32.4% to $19.5 billion.
ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) pulled off that strong quarter even as production slipped nearly 6% to 2.25 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, leaning instead on a 36% jump in realized prices to carry the results. O'Brien, a nearly 30-year company veteran, inherits a $7 billion free cash flow growth pledge through 2029 that depends heavily on finishing the pricey Willow oil project in Alaska. It is a project whose price tag has already climbed to $9 billion.
One of the company's rivals, Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) told a different story the week before. On July 31, the firm posted its biggest quarterly profit in four years at $14.7 billion, up 67% from the first quarter. It still came up short of the $3.60-per-share estimate with adjusted earnings of $3.52. Its shares fell 1% on the news.
So why did ConocoPhillips's win move the stock while Exxon's four-year-high profit left investors cold?

BZZR has reached another streaming agreement, this time with the Los Angeles Rams, as the upstart free streamer eyes further expansion.
The Los Angeles Rams announced an agreement with BZZR to make the service its local preseason streaming home. According to Sportico, all three preseason games will stream free to fans in California, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah, as well as in Australia and Mexico. Rams preseason games will also continue to air on local television.
The agreement is a first for an NFL team with a streamer, as teams were only allowed to stream preseason games directly to fans this season. BZZR believes that gives it a leg up in the free sports streaming ***** e.
BZZR was launched without much fanfare in April 2026. But it really burst onto the scene in July, when the Texas Rangers moved their direct-to-consumer streaming platform to BZZR after financial issues at the prior home: Victory+.
The launch drew criticism from some fans because BZZR initially lacked apps for Roku, Samsung, and LG smart TVs. An app on Roku has since been launched.

The surrogate mother who refused an abortion request after the baby she was carrying was diagnosed with a serious heart defect is pressing her legal fight after the newborn underwent lifesaving heart surgery, days after she says he was taken from her just 60 seconds after birth.
McKenna West, an Alaska mother and cardiac nurse who carried the child, said Thursday she is continuing to fight for the baby after she was separated from him moments after giving birth Aug. 12.
"I haven't been allowed to hold this precious baby boy I carried and protected throughout my pregnancy," West wrote in a New York Post op-ed Thursday.
"The only glimpse I got of him was during a very short 60 seconds while his umbilical cord was still connected. As soon as the cord was cut, he was taken away."

Eagle Capital Management, an investment management company, released its second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the quarter, Eagle Capital Management discussed how enthusiasm around AI capital spending has driven strong S&P 500 earnings growth while also increasing risks from elevated valuations, concentrated demand, and aggressive investment **** umptions. Eagle remains a strong believer in AI but prefers constructing a portfolio that can perform across multiple outcomes rather than relying on one forecast. The firm believes current earnings can overstate underlying economics because semiconductor equipment is depreciated over several years, while free cash flow growth remains much weaker. It also expects competition and additional capacity across AI labs, hyperscalers, and semiconductors to eventually create winners and losers. These dynamics are encouraging Eagle to recycle capital toward attractive opportunities outside the most crowded AI trades while maintaining selective exposure to high quality beneficiaries. The portfolio trades at a 20% market discount with faster expected EPS growth. Please review the Strategy's top five holdings for key selections.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Eagle Capital Management highlighted ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP). ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) explores for, produces, transports, and markets crude oil, bitumen, natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and natural gas liquids. On August 18, 2026, ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) closed at $129.72 per share. The one-month return of ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) was 9.20% and its shares gained 36.71% over the past 52 weeks. ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) has a market capitalization of $155.84 billion.
Eagle Capital Management stated the following regarding ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"The energy & metals companies we own benefit from favorable multiyear supply/demand outlooks, management teams that are good capital allocators, and **** et bases that are well-positioned on the global cost curve.
ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP), the largest U.S. pure-play upstream oil producer, has low-cost, long-lived inventory that we believe is underappreciated relative to peers. In the coming years, its free cash flow should inflect higher as the Willow project in Alaska comes online and transitions from a cash drag to a cash generator. We see the oil market as reasonably balanced, but risks may skew to the upside over the next couple of years as the world manages shortages from the Strait of Hormuz, and the path to its full and enduring reopening remains murky. We expect EPS growth in the mid-teens over the next several years."

Eagle Capital Management, an investment management company, released its second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the quarter, Eagle Capital Management discussed how enthusiasm around AI capital spending has driven strong S&P 500 earnings growth while also increasing risks from elevated valuations, concentrated demand, and aggressive investment ****** umptions.

Aug 18 (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Justice has issued subpoenas in an investigation into whether a Senate candidate in Alaska with the same name as a Republican incumbent entered the race to confuse voters, according to a source familiar with the probe.
The grand jury subpoenas are part of a federal probe into the candidacy of Dan J. Sullivan, who is running against incumbent Dan S. Sullivan, the source said.
Both candidates are running in the state's nonpartisan Senate primary on Tuesday. The top four candidates will advance to the November election, which could cause further headaches for Senator Dan S. Sullivan if challenger Dan J. Sullivan makes the cut.
The subpoenas were first reported by NBC News.
An investigation does not always result in criminal charges.

American AI companies are collectively worth trillions of dollars, and lawmakers, ***** el-winning economists, and AI executives themselves are asking whether ordinary citizens should own a piece of them.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has been discussing a plan to give the U.S. government a 5% equity stake in his company, according to a Financial Times report from early July. Altman wants other leading AI firms to do the same, with equity flowing into a government-run fund modeled on Alaska's Permanent Fund, which invests oil wealth and distributes annual payments to residents. The talks are in early stages, and any deal would likely require an act of Congress.
The proposal comes as public opinion on AI has turned sharply negative. More than 200 economists, including 16 ***** el laureates, have warned that AI could put millions of workers out of jobs within years, not the decades that previous waves of automation required. A fund could cushion blow, if it's structured properly.
Altman first raised the idea with the Trump administration in 2025, according to CNBC, and spent the next year building his case. OpenAI published a formal proposal in April calling for a "Public Wealth Fund" that would give every citizen, including the tens of millions of Americans who don't own a single share of stock, a stake in AI-driven growth.
Each American's share of the proposed stake would be worth between $125 and $146, depending on whether OpenAI goes public at its target valuation of $1 trillion or stays at its current $852 billion. That's a fraction of what Alaska's Permanent Fund typically pays to the state's more than 600,000 residents. Even in a down year, its payouts are robust: the Permanent Fund delivered $1,000 per resident in 2025, its lowest payout in five years. Because the fund is worth more than $91 billion, having been built over five decades on continuous oil revenue and diversified investments, its dividends are consistent and high enough to mean something to each person.

A 21-foot boat ran out of fuel while traveling through the waters of southeastern Alaska. Now, Meta's Mark Zuckerberg is under fire as his private yacht was reportedly closer than the vessel that ultimately came to help.
According to the Alaska Beacon, vessel-tracking data showed Zuckerberg's 387-foot superyacht, Launchpad, was near Farragut Bay when the ***** istance request went out.
It seems that Launchpad did not ***** ist, but a 192-foot cruise ship called Wilderness Legacy turned back instead, towed the small boat into Farragut Bay, and provided fuel.
A passenger on the cruise ship claimed the yacht repeatedly refused to respond, while Zuckerberg's spokesperson said its crew did not initially hear the radio request.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche just lost the last little bit of cushion he had left to survive confirmation.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, announced that she would not support Blanche's nomination to be the nation's top prosecutor and law enforcement official, dealing another blow to his rocky confirmation process.
Her defection, despite a heavy lobbying effort by Blanche that saw him make the trek to Alaska, means that Senate Republican leadership can't afford to lose anymore votes to get him across the finish line, given that Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., though now back home, has still not returned to the Senate.
Collins Drops The Hammer On Trump's Pick To Lead Doj, Jeopardizing Path To Confirmation
Murkowski acknowledged Blanche's visit to Alaska and heavy lobbying effort throughout the last few weeks, but it's his connection to President Donald Trump's nearly $2 billion anti-weaponization fund, and broader concerns of a weaponized Justice Department, that proved the nail in the coffin for her.

Hotchkis & Wiley, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for the "Hotchkis & Wiley Mid-Cap Value Fund." A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. Equity markets posted strong returns in the second quarter of 2026, with the Russell Midcap Index rising 13.8% and the Russell Midcap Value Index returning 13.4%, despite concerns about inflation, a hawkish Federal Reserve, and rising oil prices due to the Iran conflict. Narrow market leadership was evident, particularly semiconductor stocks and other stocks in the AI sector, which saw returns exceeding 100%. The Firm favors quality businesses with attractive valuations, believing that fears regarding AI's impact are overstated. The Hotchkis & Wiley Mid-Cap Value Fund lagged the Russell Midcap Value Index, achieving a 4.74% return in the second quarter, primarily due to underperformance in technology and energy sectors, while stock selection in healthcare contributed positively. In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Hotchkis & Wiley Mid-Cap Value Fund highlighted APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA). APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) is an energy company focused on the exploration and production of oil and natural gas in key global markets. On August 3, 2026, APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) closed at $36.87 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $13.032 billion. APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) posted a one-month return of 8.44%, while its shares gained 98.33% over the past 52 weeks.
Hotchkis & Wiley Mid-Cap Value Fund stated the following regarding APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) is an independent oil and gas E&P (exploration & production) company operating in the Permian and in Egypt. Quarterly results were in line with expectations and supportive of our investment thesis, but the stock fell as oil retreated due to optimism about a resolution to the conflict in Iran. APA offers strong free cash flow generation driven by favorable natural gas price differentials and underappreciated reinvestment opportunities in Suriname, Egypt, and potentially Alaska. Despite concerns over shorter Permian resource life, APA trades at attractive value metrics relative to its free cash flow yield and remains leveraged to a structurally undersupplied global energy market. The company has an investment grade balance sheet and trades at a valuation discount to its peers."

Jul. 30—The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which came to a close in mid-July, featured a Mexican men's national team that included Alaska's own Obed Vargas Jr.
The memories his family made watching him play on the world's biggest stage for the first time will last them a lifetime, even after Mexico's team was eliminated in the round of 16.
"This was a very, very special moment for me, for my family," Obed Vargas Sr. said. "I've been in love with the sport since I was a kid, and this is actually my first World Cup ever that I'm able to actually attend in a live game."
Attending a World Cup game in his home country of Mexico fulfilled a long-held dream, but the fact that his eldest son was on the Mexican national team made the experience even more special.
"It was an incredible experience," Vargas said. "The first time we saw our son in the Azteca Stadium and singing the national anthem, it was very, very special. The fans ... rooting for the team and for Mexico. It was something that I never experienced before in my entire life."

At 78, Joe Manchin is stepping back into politics.
A year and a half after leaving office fed up with the major parties, the former West Virginia senator is launching a new effort, the Independent Leadership Council, to recruit and support independent candidates across the country.
"We're not trying to start another party," Manchin told CNN in an interview with his daughter, who's also leading the council. "We're trying to get a person who can be committed to – and totally committed to – being an independent with an independent voice. They can vote with Democrats and Republicans when they're right and speak out against them when they're wrong."
Manchin kicked off the effort Thursday by convening candidates in West Virginia. Attendees include California Rep. Kevin Kiley, a former Republican running for reelection as an independent; Seth Bodnar, an independent candidate for Senate in Montana; and Michael Bridgford, an independent candidate for the House in Iowa. The group is also eying races in Alaska and Washington.
The initiative comes at a time of deepening disillusionment with both major parties, and as a record high 45% of American adults identify as political independents, according to a Gallup poll released earlier this year.

Santos narrowed its full-year production guidance after its Barossa LNG project and Alaska's Pikka oil development advanced through commissioning, with the company expecting a significant increase in production and free cash flow during the second half of 2026.
The Australian energy producer said Barossa is now operating at 97% of planned production rates, with LNG cargoes currently being loaded about every eight days. Meanwhile, Pikka's initial production wells are delivering approximately 23,000 barrels per day, with plateau output of around 80,000 bpd (gross) targeted in the third quarter and first sales expected in August.
Second-quarter production rose 3% from the previous quarter to 23.1 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe), bringing first-half output to 45.6 mmboe. Santos now expects second-half production to be approximately 20% to 30% higher than the first half and narrowed its full-year production guidance to 99-105 mmboe.
Second-quarter sales revenue increased 6% quarter-on-quarter to $1.35 billion. First-half free cash flow from operations reached about $378 million but was weighed down by one-off commissioning costs at Barossa and Pikka, the timing of LNG cargo receipts, and temporary under-lift positions in Papua New Guinea. The company said these factors are expected to reverse during the second half, supporting stronger cash generation.
Santos also expects higher LNG prices to boost earnings after realizing $11.21 per mmBtu during the quarter. Because most of its LNG contracts are linked to the ******* an Crude ******* tail (JCC) benchmark with a three-month pricing lag, the rise in JCC prices above $100 per barrel during the second quarter is expected to lift realized LNG prices in the third quarter.

Mississippi has, to put it mildly, a complicated history when it comes to race relations. Even as times have changed and attitudes have modernized, a number of the all-time best athletes to compete in college sports did so at schools other than the state’s flagship campuses.
From our perspective, however, it has made the task of choosing the 10 greatest college players more fun. Six different schools are represented on this list, including some hall-of-fame gridiron talents from the state’s trio of HBCU’s. The Magnolia State’s two SEC schools are also represented, of course, and though football is a rather big deal there we’ve found some worthy candidates in other sports as well.
The Football Championship Subdivision player of the year award bears Payton’s name with good reason. Before becoming a household name with the Chicago Bears and the NFL's all-time leading rusher (now No. 2 on the list), ‘Sweetness’ was rewriting the record book with the Jackson State Tigers, where he scored a total of 464 points and rushed for 3,563 yards.
USA 250 LISTS: Alaska | Alabama | Arizona | Arkansas | California | Colorado | Connecticut | Delaware | Florida | Georgia | Hawaii | Idaho | Illinois | Indiana | Iowa | Kansas | Kentucky | Louisiana | Maine | Maryland | Massachusetts | Michigan | Minnesota | Mississippi | Missouri
The greatest pass catcher ever to take the field NFL first made his mark on the college game at Mississippi Valley State. From 1981-84 he caught 301 ***** for 4,693 yards and 50 touchdowns for the Delta Devils. Along the way he set records for most catches (102) and yards (1,454) in a season and in a game (24) while earning first-team All-America honors.

Alaskan Bush People alum Noah Brown is voicing concern for his children's welfare as his divorce from Rhain Brown continues to play out in court.
According to an article Us Weekly published Wednesday, July 22, Noah, 34, expressed worry about his sons' "emotional and physical safety" in court documents and has requested an independent evaluation, along with a court-appointed guardian ad litem, for the two boys he shares with Rhain.
In a March 11 declaration, per the outlet, Noah claimed Rhain, who is pregnant, moved in with a new partner, Adam Gimello — the father of her unborn child — alleging that Gimello is under house arrest, on probation and subject to a protective order restricting his access to firearms.
"To the best of my knowledge, Rhain's household contains several rifles and pistols that appear to be easily accessible," Noah wrote, according to the outlet. "I am concerned that the current living situation may place our children at risk."

The Supreme Court agreed Monday to hear an appeal from an Alaskan bush pilot whose plane was seized by authorities after they discovered it was bound for a remote, dry village with beer on board.
The appeal from the 82-year-old pilot, Kenneth Jouppi, could have national implications if the 6-3 conservative court limits the ability of state and local governments to rely on ******* et forfeiture. Jouppi claims that the taking of his $95,000 Cessna for what amounted to a six-pack of beer violated the 8th Amendment's bar on excessive fines.
The Supreme Court is likely to hear oral arguments in the case later this year or early next — and hand down a decision by next summer.
"The Excessive Fines Clause of the Constitution was built for cases like this," said Sam Gedge, a senior attorney at the Institute for Justice, which is representing the pilot. "As government agencies increasingly exploit fines and forfeitures to pad their budgets, it's vital that the Supreme Court make clear that the Excessive Fines Clause is a meaningful check on government overreach."
Jouppi says that the Budweiser and Bud Light found on his plane, which was packaged with other groceries, belonged to a passenger. He said that most of it was out of sight, but state police said one six-pack was in plain view inside a grocery bag. One trooper claimed that Jouppi would "have to be blind" not to have seen at least some of the alcohol and that "pilots with that bad of eyesight just don't fly."
