NEW DELHI: "Arey nahi nahi!" Sanat Sangwan bursts into laughter when asked if his father was a fan of Sri Lankan batting legend Sanath Jayasuriya and whether that inspired his name.
The 25-year-old southpaw has been Delhi's most consistent batter in the last two domestic seasons. Sangwan managed only 385 runs in his debut Ranji Trophy season in 2024-25, but his stay at the crease gave Delhi's fragile batting line-up some ******* urance. The only problem was that he was not able to convert his starts. He turned that around in the 2025-26 season, amassing 828 runs at an average of 69, including three hundreds.
Sangwan explained the hard work behind those runs, which has earned him a spot in the North Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy, starting from Sunday (August 23) at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
"You have to put a lot of effort into preparing for red-ball cricket during the off-season. Conditions are different, and as an opener, it is always difficult while facing the new ball. And sometimes you might have to walk out to bat in the afternoon or sometimes even when the lights are not good. So keeping all things in mind, I prepare more for red-ball cricket during the off-season," Sangwan said in a select media interaction organised by Delhi Premier League's (DPL) franchise South Delhi Superstarz.
"I prefer to go to the nets at around 8 am when there is a little moisture on the wicket. I try to replicate the conditions that I get in matches. I practise a little earlier because the more I practise in difficult conditions, the easier it becomes to adapt. I ask the net bowlers to start with a new ball. Then, after an hour, I give them another new ball. I try to face more new ******* in the nets so that the situation doesn't feel easy for me in a match," he explains his preparation.
While talking about his preparation for red-ball cricket, Sangwan goes into the details of his training and love for the format, and also explains why it gives him so much joy.
"I love this format. From the start, you see the opener go out to bat with the new ball. Then the conditions get better, and then the second new ball comes again. There is a lot in this format. It is a difficult format. It tests your skill, patience and fitness. The result is not in your hands. You can come back at any time. If you take two or three wickets quickly, or have a good partnership with the bat, you can change the game. I have worked a lot on my cricket since I was 19. Red-ball cricket is my favourite format," he says.
Sangwan isn't soothing to the eyes like other southpaws. His cover drives are not as elegant as any other left-handed batters, but he knows how to put a price on his wicket, has a great temperament and his batting mantra is pretty simple: "Tire the bowlers in the first hour."
"In red-ball cricket, I try to select my shots according to what I have prepared. I don't play the cover drive early in my innings. I try to avoid cutting the ball

Last weekend, Pierce Brosnan, 73, and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, 62, went sightseeing in Sydney, having just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Their relationship has proven to be one of Hollywood's most enduring and life-affirming love stories.
They met in 1994 when she was a journalist, two and a half years after Pierce lost his first wife, Cassandra Harris, to ovarian cancer (tragically, Cassandra's daughter Charlotte, who he adopted, died from the same disease). Pierce and Keely married in 2001 at the historic Ballintubber Abbey in Ireland and have been inseparable ever since.

In a 2018 interview with Closer, Pierce said: "I had a great marriage which sadly had its own ending, and I was lucky enough to find love again. We were meant to find each other. I thank God for her every day." Continuing, "I found a great woman in Keely. Not if I searched a million times over would I find one as good." Keely is equally and openly devoted, posting heartfelt messages on social media every anniversary.
In archive pictures, a natural-not-theatrical closeness was always in evidence. They were sartorially in sync too. Still are. For a Sydney harbour boat trip and dinner, they mirrored a vibe of "quiet luxury", he in a smart jacket with black jeans and a dapper cravat, she in elegant head-to-toe beige. In short, they sport what's called "couple's style".

Honestly? We knew it wouldn't be long before what is perhaps the most controversial shoe (if you can even call it that) of the year made its way onto the red carpet. Fashion has always loved an opinion-dividing shoe moment, and at last night's The Dog Stars premiere in London, Margaret Qualley stepped out in Chanel's much-discussed "barefoot" sandals, proving that even the most eyebrow-raising runway trends can find their way onto the red carpet.
There were plenty of highlights from the premiere, from Jacob Elordi arriving in Celine with his adorable dog, to Margaret's elegant, ethereal and effortlessly cool black fringed Chanel dress. But it was the actress's footwear that had everyone talking.
So, what exactly are the shoes?
First unveiled as part of Matthieu Blazy's Chanel Resort 2027 collection in Biarritz, the sandals take the phrase "barely there" in the most literal sense.

Margot Robbie brought effortless 1960s style back to the streets of Paris. While filming on location for her upcoming movie project, the Australian actress turned heads in a simple white micro minidress. She upgraded the minimal shift dress with high-end accessories, including a timeless quilted leather handbag. Her chic Parisian outfit proved that clean silhouettes and iconic luxury pieces create the ultimate classic fashion statement.
Margot Robbie looked incredibly chic as she walked through the streets of Paris while filming scenes for the "Ocean's Eleven" prequel. The star wore a sleeveless white micro minidress with a classic A-line shift silhouette. The clean dress featured subtle vertical tailoring seams and a round crew neckline, giving it a distinct retro feel. Her outfit stayed simple and elegant, letting her high-fashion accessories take center stage.
To elevate the plain dress, Robbie carried a black quilted leather Chanel Classic Flap bag featuring a woven gold chain strap. The iconic luxury handbag added instant polish and contrast to her pale outfit. She completed her ensemble with black pointed-toe pumps that added an extra touch of French sophistication.
Robbie styled her outfit with a black wide-brim bucket hat that shaded her eyes from the sun. Underneath the hat, her blonde shoulder-length hair was styled in sleek, turned-out ends. She also wore dark retro cat-eye sunglasses to enhance her mysterious, vintage-inspired look.
The "Barbie" actor's makeup was polished and refined, highlighting a rich berry-red lipstick, warm flushed cheeks, and a smooth matte base. She finished her look with deep red manicured nails, which perfectly matched her classic lipstick tone.

Georgina Rodríguez and Cristiano Ronaldo said "I do" on August 11 during an intimate ceremony in their own living room.
In new photos, Rodríguez was an elegant bride in a surprisingly casual wedding look.
The Portuguese soccer player, 41, and model, 32, both wore Gucci on their big day.
Georgina Rodríguez was a stunning bride. After confirming she and Cristiano Ronaldo wed on August 11 in an intimate ceremony, a few days later, the couple shared more details about the special day, which took place in the living room of summer house in Cascais, Portugal, in a new interview. In photos published by Vogue, Rodríguez is seen in quite the unexpected wedding outfit.
Instead of an extravagant wedding gown, the model opted for an elegant silk faille skirt suit and matching satin shoes, while the soccer player wore a custom light beige cotton suit and loafers. Given the couple first met while Rodríguez worked at a Gucci store, it was only right that they both—as well as their kids—wore the designer to get married.

Devdutt Padikkal's long wait for a breakthrough in Test cricket has finally turned into a statement innings, and KL Rahul believes the left-hander's success in Galle is the reward for years of quiet work behind the scenes. Padikkal produced a magnificent 167 in the first Test against Sri Lanka, his maiden Test century, as India posted 462 all out in their first innings on Day 3. The left-hander's marathon knock, his third Test appearance, stood out as India built a commanding total despite rain interruptions and a late fightback from Sri Lanka's spinners.
Speaking in a video posted by the BCCI, Rahul revealed that Padikkal had spent the last couple of years patiently waiting for his opportunity while working on his game.
"In the last couple of years he's been waiting for his opportunity and quietly toiling in the nets and trying to get better at some aspects of his batting," Rahul said.
Padikkal's preparation for the Sri Lanka tour began well before the first Test. He had represented India A in Sri Lanka and also scored a century in the warm-up game, giving him valuable exposure to the conditions. Rahul said those experiences, combined with their conversations, helped Padikkal understand what would be required once he got his chance at the highest level.
"He's someone who's come here before, scored some runs in India A as well. So just getting used to the condition, he scored 100 in the warm-up game as well. He's been amongst runs, he's someone who loves batting and scoring big runs," Rahul added.
Padikkal walked in after India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early and gradually took control of the innings. He combined patience with elegant strokeplay, eventually reaching his maiden Test hundred and continuing all the way to 167, his highest score in the format. His innings included 15 fours and a six.
For Rahul, the significance of Padikkal's hundred goes beyond the numbers. He believes getting a first Test century early in a career can remove a major psychological barrier and allow a batter to play with greater freedom.
"I'm really happy that he could get the first hundred and that's really special for everybody and very important to get that early in your career so you can get that out of the way and then start enjoying your cricket and start enjoying your batting and take your batting to the next level," Rahul said.
"I think he's at a stage where he understands his batting really well and he's scoring lots of runs so I think he'll make that move into scoring bigger knocks for India and being more consistent," Rahul added.
India eventually finished on 462 in 116.4 overs, taking a substantial advantage into Sri Lanka's first innings. Padikkal was the star with 167, while Rahul contributed 82 and Dhruv Jurel added a valuable 51. Rishabh Pant made 39, while the lower order ensured India crossed the 450-mark despite Sri Lanka's late fightback.

She may not be an official member of the royal family, but Pippa Middleton became a global fashion phenomenon following her role as maid of honour at the Prince and Princess of Wales' 2011 wedding.
What makes her style particularly memorable is that she is not afraid of playful prints of bright colours. While she has softened her approach in recent years, opting for ditsy floral designs or one colourful item, Pippa wore perhaps her boldest dress in 2019.
For the British Heart Foundation Beating Hearts Ball, Princess Kate's sister stepped out in a floor-length black gown covered with a psychedelic red and white print from Temperley London. The ruffled sleeves and striped detail ensured she stood out from the crowd, with Pippa choosing a simple red clutch and an elegant updo to complement the busy design.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Fever are no strangers to outside noise.
Throughout the season, they've navigated those rocky waters elegantly. But even the best ships see their sails rip from time to time. As impenetrable as the Fever have been to everything around them, the noise broke through over the weekend and touched a nerve.
Publicly, Indiana head coach Stephanie White used her pregame press conference to offer a fiery defense of her character amid criticisms that she didn't do enough to defend her player, Sophie Cunningham, after a hard foul in Saturday's win over the Sky.
Privately, her superstar guard, Caitlin Clark, promised to have her back. Clark and the Fever stepped up in defense of her coach, first on the court as they downed the Liberty for their seventh win in nine games. Then, they took to the podium postgame and made their feelings on their head coach known.
"I talked to Steph earlier in the day, too, and I think we forget a lot of times, like, we're human and she has feelings," Clark said. "There's moments that are really hard and sometimes that's just the job you sign up for, but at the same time, it's OK to feel those emotions and I just told her, like, I've been through the same thing. There's been days where I've been really upset and you can have the thickest skin in the world, but sometimes it does get to you.

In the absence of an endorsement deal, the Redbirds will have to settle for winning the game.
The Phillies put runners on the corners on the first, but didn't convert them into runs. And the same was true in the second, as the Phillies put runners on the corners and saw the inning end on a Justin Crawford 6-4-3 GIDP. The Cardinals soon found themselves in a comparable situation, putting runners on first and third against Cristopher Sánchez on singles from José Fermin and Masyn Winn. And the Redbirds, wanting to be gracious and considerate hosts, chose not to upstage their visitors and promptly hit into a 5-4-3 twin killing. The Phillies, however, misunderstood this kind gesture, thinking that home team was trying to upstage them with a GIDP slightly fancier than the standard 6-4-3. "We can match that," said the Phils. And so it was that in the next inning they did indeed replicate the 5-4-3 DP, via grounder from Bryce Harper.
The **** embled masses, Philadelphia Phaithful and toasted ravioli-eating St. Louis partisans alike, cried "stop! No more!" But their calls went unheeded. The Cardinals, their dander up and their ire drawn, one-upped the Phillies by hitting into a 4-6-3 version of the pitcher's best friend. to conclude the bottom of the third. The arms race was on. Your faithful recapper sprinted to his bookshelf, removed his copy of the **** son Baseball Dictionary, flipped to the entry on double plays, and groaned upon realizing that only four synonyms were listed; one was used two sentences ago, and the others weren't distinct enough to be of use (technically you can shorten double play to just double, but isn't that confusing?)
In the fourth inning, the first two Phillies batters, Luis Arraez and J.T. Realmuto, made outs, thus ensuring the chain of double plays would at last be broken. But while the double plays ended, offense was still hard to find. In the top of the fifth, Alec Bohm sent a slider flying to center, where Everson Pereira leapt and came down with it elegantly; poetry in motion, and frustration in action for the Phillies. The Cardinals proved no more adept at scoring in their portion of the fifth, and then in the sixth the double play chain began again, with the Phillies matching the 4-6-3 their avian foe hit into earlier.
The Phillies faced the Redbird bullpen in the seventh, with Brady Pallante departing after six scoreless, with four hits and just two Ks. His replacement, George Soriano, quickly induced two outs, then allowed a single to Brandon Marsh and a walk to Bohm. That brought up Justin Crawford, who lined out. The scoring drought continued.

Kate Middleton knows what looks good on her. The Princess of Wales is one of the modern royal fashion icons for precisely that reason; wearing garments that suit you (based on your body type, complexion, and height) is a surefire way to put together a chic look. From Kate Middleton's Wimbledon outfits that we're still thinking about to Kate Middleton's most regal looks of all time, the royal and her styling team have made it clear that they have a strong grasp on Kate's elevated brand. The Princess is seldom seen breaking the royal family's strict style rules. In order to maintain her elegant public image, Kate's well-tailored ensembles for events and public appearances often feature soft shades of blue.
While Kate Middleton's love of monochromatic looks may be a nod to Queen Elizabeth, her fondness for the color blue is uniquely her own. Over the years that she's been in the public eye, Kate has donned many dresses in different shades of the classic color. Whether she's attending Trooping the Colour or watching the finals at Wimbledon, Kate knows that the regal color suits her perfectly. We're taking a look at some of Kate's most stunning blue dress moments, giving further credence to the fact that the Princess of Wales practically owns the color.

The Princess of Wales always stuns at Trooping the Colour, but her 2026 look stole the show. Kate Middleton gave one of Princess Diana's most iconic '80s looks a chic update with her sky-blue coat dress. Designed by Catherine Walker, Kate's dress had a white trim and strong shoulder pads, and it reminded royal fans of a very similar dress Diana wore in 1987 (which was also created by Walker). Kate's stunning blue dress had a retro energy that we're in love with.

An elegant evening celebrating Inter's international presence marked the Club's stay in Hong Kong during the opening leg of the Internazionale Summer Tour. Within one of Asia's most dynamic cities, the Club brought together representatives from local institutions, partners, media and the cultural community for an exclusive event inspired by the values that have defined Inter since its foundation.
Hosted at Cardinal Point, the spectacular Sky Terrace on the 45th floor of the Landmark skyscraper, the event treated guests to breathtaking views of Hong Kong's skyline and Victoria Harbour. It provided the perfect setting to celebrate Inter's international presence, surrounded by the colours that have represented the Club since 1908: "Black as the night, blue as the sky."
At the heart of the evening was an opportunity to enjoy a traditional aperitivo with the local community, designed to bring together people from different cultures and backgrounds. Guests experienced an authentic Milanese aperitivo – one of the city's most iconic social traditions – while embracing the spirit of openness, exchange and dialogue that has always been central to Inter's identity as Internazionale.
The event welcomed leading representatives from local institutions, Club partners, members of the media, content creators and prominent figures from across Hong Kong, creating a unique opportunity for networking and collaboration where sport, culture and business came together.
The evening opened with a special welcome from Nerazzurri legend Christian Vieri, who took to the stage alongside host Sze Nga and Rivista Undici journalist Jay Ganglani, whose publication partnered with the event. Their conversation explored football's role as a global cultural phenomenon and Inter's evolution into an international brand capable of connecting with different markets, cultures and communities around the world.

There were more looks from Kaia Gerber as she continued promoting her new film, The Shards, and you won't be surprised to learn that they all stayed within her familiar style formula.
Jason Howard/Bauer-Griffin/GC Images
Usually, a black dress and black pumps are a signal for me to mentally check out, but instead I found myself really liking this Prada dress.
It's sleek, elegant and perfectly in tune with Kaia's understated aesthetic. She isn't someone who chases trends. Instead, she has built a wardrobe around clean, refined silhouettes that consistently work for her, and this dress is another example of that approach paying off.
Styled with an Aupen Nova Nylon bag, the look felt considered without straying from the aesthetic she has made her own.

Every indication is that elegant Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi is the second midfielder that Manchester City are aiming to sign this summer. Signing Bouaddi is imperative for City to future-proof their midfield. The 18-year-old Moroccan international looms as a player that City could build their midfield around for the long-term. Bouaddi's ability to maintain possession, read the game and drive the ball up the pitch at such a young age makes him one of the most highly rated young midfielders in European football. It has now been reported that Manchester City are confident of agreeing a deal with Lille to sign Bouaddi as their midfield revamp is seemingly taking shape.
Jack Johnson has reported for TeamTalk that Manchester City are increasingly confident that will agree a deal with Lille to sign Ayyoub Bouaddi. Furthermore, it is also reported that if City do agree to sign the Moroccan international from Lille they will not be loaning him back to the Ligue One side. As per Jack Johnson's report Lille are asking for £85.3 to sell their prized ******* et. They would demand £68 million if Bouaddi was loaned back to them for next season. The indication is that City will pay around £85 million to sign Bouaddi provided that they settle on a deal with Lille.
The midfield situation at Manchester City is ever-evolving. It would seem that the chances that Rodri could leave City for Real Madrid this summer have increased exponentially. City do still have Nico Gonzalez who could attempt to fill that particular void. The possibility that Nico O'Reilly could move into midfield is also a possibility. Elliot Anderson's arrival at the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders adds another quality midfielder to their ranks. However, if Rodri leaves, even if he stays, Manchester City do need another midfielder. Especially one who could one day replace Rodri. Ayyoub Bouaddi does loom as that player.
Ayyoub Bouaddi is a player who could become a long-term player for Manchester City. Of course they have to sign him from Lille first. Bouaddi's age and already established pedigree makes an elite long-term prospect for the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders. Finding a player, especially a midfielder, with those traits is especially difficult. City seem to have identified in Bouaddi and are determined to sign him.
Manchester City's confidence is growing that they will sign Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille this summer. Bouaddi's star rose due to his exceptional performances for Morocco at the World Cup and City will hope to sign him sooner rather than later.
