Newcastle United has generated significant transfer income this summer, but Matthias Jaissle's rebuild remains incomplete, to say the least.
The Magpies have already brought five players in, but they continue to ****** s options across the field, including attacking options after Anthony Gordon's departure and the struggles of last summer's forward additions.
Regarding one of Newcastle's floated targets, Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca opened the door last weekend for Omar Marmoush to decide his own future, acknowledging that the Egyptian wants more playing time after struggling for regular minutes last season.
"Players work every day, they want to play so when they don't play they are not happy. Omar did not play a lot last year so his desire is probably to play more minutes," Maresca said following City's 3-1 preseason victory over Atletico Madrid. "It doesn't mean that he isn't going to play more minutes here but it's also his decision, and he needs to decide."
Those comments arrived just days after CaughtOffside's Mark Brus reported Newcastle had rekindled its interest in the 27-year-old, who joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt for around £59 million (€67.7 million) in January 2025.

Everyone is waiting for Aaron Donald to decide whether he'll end a two-year retirement and return to football.
Everyone, including coach Sean McVay.
"He's going through his process," McVay told reporters on Tuesday. "I'm hopeful. I don't even want to put a timeline on it because what I don't want to [do is] rush this.
"There are conversations we've had. Hopefully [something happens] sooner than later, but there's no new news. He is continuing to go through his process."
A decision had been expected early this week. That was nudged back to the end of the week. It could still be **** ped deeper into August.

Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Don Nelson, who won five ****** les as a player and later became the second-winningest coach in NBA history, died Sunday at 86, the Golden State Warriors announced.
No cause of death was provided.
Nelson played 11 of his 14 NBA seasons for the Boston Celtics, where he won five championship ****** les with four separate coaches.
He is one of two coaches in league history with at least 250 wins for three different teams, Milwaukee Bucks, Dallas Mavericks, and Golden State. He also served as each of the teams' general manager and won three coach of the year honors. The teams made the playoffs in 18 of his 31 seasons, but he never won a ****** le.
Nelson introduced the point forward strategy, which shifted the game from relying on large players, which he attributed to his time playing for legendary Celtics coach Red Auerbach. His fast-pace approach was likely best seen with the Warriors teams with future Hall of Famers Chris Mullin, Tim Hardaway, and Mitch Richmond

The Jacksonville Jaguars recently signed veteran linebacker Jahlani Tavai, and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile detailed what he could potentially add to this defense.
On the surface, this felt like a depth addition as the Jaguars navigate injuries at linebacker. Jack Kiser is currently sidelined, while Jared Bartlett was waived with an injury designation.
However, as Campanile described, Tavai can offer more than that.
"Obviously, we've had some injuries in camp," Campanile said, "but I've seen Jahlani play over the years. Some guys who I know really, really well have coached him, been around him. So there's definitely a familiarity with him and the way he plays. He's been in a system that has a lot of the same tenets as ours when he was in Detroit and then New England. We played very similarly in Miami when I was there. So there's a lot of carry over even just the verbiage to everything -- it's an easier transition for him."
Tavai is an experienced player, having been in the NFL since 2019, when he was a second-round pick by Detroit. He has appeared in 107 games, making 67 starts.
