In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Weitz Multi Cap Equity Fund highlighted Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) as a newly added postion. Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) is a leading subscription-based streaming entertainment platform. On September 15, 2026, Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) posted a one‑month return of -2.89%, while its shares lost 36.59% over the past 52 weeks.
Weitz Multi Cap Equity Fund stated the following regarding Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"We initiated two new positions during the second quarter. Most will be familiar with global streaming giant, Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX). The company made headlines as it tried to acquire Warner Bros. from Warner Bros. Discovery before ultimately walking away from a bidding war for the company. Some investors feared its bid signaled stagnation in its streaming business. At the time of this writing, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is also captivating audiences and draining attention and engagement from Netflix's service. Despite these near-term perception headwinds, we are optimistic that Netflix's introduction of an ad-supported tier is a savvy strategy to extend its growth runway: Netflix will not only participate in the large, multi-billion-dollar global advertising market, but a lower-price ad-tier broadens its potential customer base while simultaneously enhancing the pricing power of its premium, ad free tier."
Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) ranks 13 on our list of 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds Heading Into 2026. According to our database, 121 hedge fund portfolios held Netflix, Inc. "Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) was the Fund's strongest performer over the quarter, up 24.4%. There's little to add from our last report, except that its 22% revenue growth exceeded our expectations, and it seems it can't keep up with demand, hence it has increased, yet again (and somewhat worryingly) its capital expenditure to budget (to USD 190b) and expects further increases next year."

Stock futures are higher after two days of losses for major indexes as traders await the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates; the Fed is widely expected to raise its benchmark interest rate for the first time in three years to tame inflation; the European Union could add Canada as an "associate member" amid the country's growing trade war with the Trump administration; shares of SK Hynix and Intel are climbing following a report that the companies could partner to build chips in the U.S.; and retail sales data is due this morning. Here's what you need to know today.
Stock futures are rising this morning ahead of the highly anticipated Federal Reserve decision on interest rates. Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 futures were each up 0.3% in recent trading while futures tracking the tech-heavy Nasdaq added 0.6%. The major indexes fell Tuesday for the second straight session as oil prices and government bond yields rose. WTI crude oil futures were recently down more more than 2% at $103.50 per barrel after hitting a fresh four-month high yesterday. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note was at 4.97%, after jumping as high as 5.04% in yesterday's session, the highest point since the financial crisis of 2007. Bitcoin was holding steady at $76,100, after the cryptocurrency slumped yesterday as the Clarity Act failed to pass through a cloture vote in the Senate. Gold futures were up 1% to $4,390 an ounce.
The Federal Reserve's policy committee will wrap up its two-day meeting this afternoon amid expectations that the central bank will hike its benchmark rate for the first time in three years to address mounting inflationary pressure. The Federal Open Market Committee's decision is scheduled to be released at 2:00 p.m. ET, along with quarterly economic projections from FOMC members. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, who took over the top position in May, has said repeatedly the Fed is squarely focussed on bringing inflation down to the Fed's target. Recent inflation data has confirmed that price pressures persist as oil prices rise owing to the Iran war. Investors will be looking for additional insights from Warsh, who is scheduled to speak at a press conference half an hour after the decision is announced. A rate hike is meant to raise borrowing costs, slowing economic activity such that inflation moderates. The challenge the Fed faces is that it can't address the underlying causes of the inflation, including the Iran war, tariffs and rampant corporate spending on AI.

Steel and materials markets fluctuated between rallies and pullbacks as the US-Canada trade relationship shifted from near agreement to open dispute. Nucor Corporation (NYSE:NUE) and Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. (NYSE:CLF) rose on August 25, after discussions between the two countries broke down, a turnaround from the week before, when several of the same stocks fell on hopes that a new deal would decrease steel and aluminum tariffs. The VanEck Steel ETF gained 1.6% on the day, while the State Street Materials Select Sector SPDR reached an intraday high. The rise didn't last: by the end of the week, the materials ETF had slipped to negative territory, while the steel ETF was about flat, though, both remain substantially up for 2026.
The volatility traces a rapid escalation. On August 19, Bloomberg reported that the US and Canada had tentatively agreed to reduce tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum to 25% and vehicle charges to 15%. That optimism was dashed within days: on August 22, the US imposed 50% tariffs on a wide variety of Canadian exports, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney responded by declaring Canada officially "at war" with the United States, saying "You're at war when you're attacked, and we got attacked."
On August 25, Ottawa announced counter-tariffs of C$27.6 billion on American goods, which took effect on September 8 at rates ranging from 15% to 50%. The dispute has continued to escalate since then, with Washington announcing additional restrictions and tariffs on Canadian goods in September, reinforcing the view that a quick resolution remains unlikely.
Atsi Sheth, Moody's chief credit officer, put it bluntly: "Expect much more of this uncertainty for some time to come." Investors initially welcomed tariffs as good news for US steelmakers facing less Canadian competition, but the back-and-forth negotiations, as well as Canada's reaction, have made predicting a steady outcome difficult.
The more intriguing story is how differently the aforementioned companies are positioned. Nucor Corporation (NYSE:NUE) relies primarily on scrap-based electric arc furnace steelmaking, while Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. (NYSE:CLF) operates a vertically integrated model with internally sourced iron ore, scrap and other raw materials. Both have meaningful domestic raw-material exposure, although their production models differ substantially. Nucor Corporation (NYSE:NUE) is up more than 50% year-to-date, while Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. (NYSE:CLF), despite similar structural insulation, remains negative for 2026, which **** ysts attribute to balance sheet stress rather than tariffs.

In March, shortly after the Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump's International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs and paved the way for $100 billion in import taxes being redistributed back to American importers, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer shared his idea of what these companies should do with this influx of cash.
"If I were these companies, and somehow they get this windfall, the most important thing and the smartest thing they should do is give it as bonuses to their workers," Greer told CNBC.
It appears some companies have heeded Greer's suggestion. As businesses receive more than $100 billion the U.S. Treasury has doled out in refunds since May, many are vowing to lower prices or pay down debts. A handful, however, are giving the cash back to their employees.
In its second quarter earnings report last month, houseware brand Williams Sonoma said it would allocate $10 million for one-time payments to 401(k) accounts to eligible employees "in recognition of their efforts navigating the IEEPA tariffs."
"We're so appreciative to have the money back and to be able to reward our employees with part of it," President and CEO Laura Alber said on an earnings call. "They have done such an amazing job."

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed Wednesday that Canada become the bloc’s first “associate member,” provoking a fresh tariff threat from US President Donald Trump.
The move is aimed at shoring up their economies in the face of increasing trade tensions with the United States. But Trump said Wednesday the US could put “heavy tariffs” on the European Union if he considers any new agreement with Canada to be a “hostile act.”
“If it’s a good intention, that’s fine. If it’s a bad intention, we’ll put very heavy tariffs on Europe, which is a possibility,” he told reporters.

In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Conventum – Alluvium Global Fund highlighted H&R Block, Inc. (NYSE:HRB). H&R Block, Inc. (NYSE:HRB) provides ***** isted and do-it-yourself (DIY) tax preparation solutions. On September 14, 2026, H&R Block, Inc. (NYSE:HRB) closed at $45.74 per share. Over the past month, H&R Block, Inc. (NYSE:HRB) has a market capitalization of $5.64 billion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $28.16 and $58.67.
Conventum – Alluvium Global Fund stated the following regarding H&R Block, Inc. (NYSE:HRB) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Last quarter we mentioned in regard to H&R Block, Inc. (NYSE:HRB), the tax agents, that a "SAASpocalypse" did not necessarily apply across the board, and that there was a mispricing opportunity so we bought more. Somewhat ironically, during its results call in early May, management stated that rather than AI replacing its products, it is using AI to build better products which are being well received. After returning 21.3% during the quarter, it now accounts for 4.6% of the Fund. Although it is now trading at a more respectable price, H&R Block achieves high returns on its capital, and trades at double digit cash flow and earnings yields. In no way do we see it as expensive."

Portfolio results were mixed, with Alphabet benefiting from strong Cloud growth, while Robert Half, H&R Block and other holdings posted solid gains. However, cable businesses and several healthcare and consumer holdings weighed on performance. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.

Conventum – Alluvium Global Fund stated the following regarding Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) was down 21.3%. Its results were all about AI, and how its investments are paying off, and management's confidence to make further investments. So the only disappointing news (if you can call it that), was that free cash is being chewed up by capital expenses to the point where it has become negative. The results were generally well received. Share price fluctuations are par for the course, especially for Alibaba. We are not fussed. As a consequence of the falling share price, its maintainable earnings yield (on our numbers) has increased to 7.7% and it is trading at a circa 30% discount to our valuation. The Fund's current position is 2.6%."
Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) ranks 30 on our list of the 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. As per our database, 97 hedge fund portfolios held Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) at the end of the second quarter which was 102 in the previous quarter.
