AUBURN — Both Da'Shawn Womack and CK Murray are expected to see the field when Auburn football when it hosts Florida for its SEC-opener this weekend, head coach Alex Golesh said Monday, Sept. 14.
Neither Womack nor Murray played in Auburn's home-opener against Southern Miss last weekend after Golesh provided health updates on both throughout the week.
"Those guys both practiced this morning, and we anticipate having them both," Golesh said. "It was a push to get them both back last week. I don't know if you saw, I had to get Womack out of my way about 20 times on the sideline (against Southern Miss). I kept telling everybody he was 'Coach Wo' on the sideline, and he (was). He brought a really cool energy. So did CK, which I was proud of both those kids for."

Transferring from Ole Miss to Auburn this offseason, Womack had 27 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and a forced fumble for the Rebels last year. Murray played in all 12 of Auburn's games last fall, posting 15 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Prior to that, Murray spent three seasons at Sam Houston.

The UConn Huskies (1-1) struggled to stay above water in their 38-14 loss to the Maryland Terrapins (2-0).
Paving the way for Connecticut, quarterback Kalieb Osborne completed 10 of 21 (41.7%) passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Osborne also led with 62 rushing yards, while running back Kenji Christian posted 21 yards. In the air, Shamar Porter paved the way with 62 receiving yards and an end zone appearance. JD Willoughby followed with 36 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, cornerback Zion Paret racked up 12 tackles (six solo) and K'Von Sherman tallied nine (four solo).
As for Maryland, Malik Washington landed 34 of 41 (82.9%) throws for 347 yards and two touchdowns. In the backfield, running backs Iverson Howard and Harry Dalton III rushed for 57 yards and crossed the goal line three times. At wide receiver, Na'eem Abdul-Rahim Gladding led with 130 yards and a touchdown. Behind him, Chris Durr Jr. registered 103 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, linebackers Sidney Stewart and Carlton Smith recorded six tackles and Stewart earning a sack.
"There weren't any adverse moments in our first football game. This is a whole different animal," Head Coach Jason Candle said. "They were going to try and lean on us and run the ball down your throat; play up in the face of your receiver. They're going to play pressure-style defense and we're going to figure out how we're going to respond."
To kick off the game, UConn and Maryland traded end zone appearances. With just under five minutes remaining in the opening quarter, Connecticut struck first. After forcing a quick three-and-out, the Terrapins punted from their 14-yard line. Wide receiver Julian Allen's 18-yard return spotted the ball at Maryland's 32-yard line, but a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty backed it up to the 47-yard line.

HOPATCONG — Before Hopatcong's season opener, Alexa McLean said all the same things to the soccer players as most other coaches would. She just said them in a slightly higher register, occasionally referring to one or another of the boys as "honey." McLean called out her starters' names with a lilt belying her Ecuadoran American roots.
During the match, McLean strolled the sideline with her phone on a sparkly cross-body strap bouncing off her hip, a green dry-erase board printed with soccer lines and a white marker in her right hand. She gave a continuous flow of suggestions and encouragement, mostly in English. But occasionally, McLean switched to her native Spanish.
A Spanish and English as a Second Language teacher at Hopatcong, McLean was an ****** istant with the boys soccer team two years ago. Last fall, she helped the soccer team at the Academy of St. Elizabeth – an all-girls school in Morris Township – to a 1-15 record in her first high school head coaching job.
But the commute was too much. When the Hopatcong boys' job opened up, it seemed a natural fit.
"I wasn't sure how I was going to be accepted by the boys," said McLean, 52, who didn't start coaching in high school until her four kids had all graduated. "I haven't had an issue. I took a little (while) for them to get used to me and me to get used to them, but it's working out."

During a timeout, the school aired an "NFLSU" segment to commemorate past LSU Tigers who've made a name for themselves in the NFL. Lloyd Cushenberry III, Reid Ferguson, Damien Lewis, Zavion Thomas and Grant Delpit all received courteous cheers from fans remembering the good times that came from formerly watching those same players compete in Death Valley.
Amid his offseason controversy over his former No. 5 jersey being used for sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett, the Baton Rouge faithful did not take too kindly to seeing their 2022-23 quarterback's face on the scoreboard.

Lane Kiffin's first stadium entrance at LSU went about as we all expected.
Kiffin always finds a way to make himself the center of attention, and that wasn't too difficult with College GameDay in town and the eyes of the college football world descending on Baton Rouge for Saturday night's game against Clemson.
In classic Kiffin fashion, he was flanked by several celebrities from the state of Louisiana as he entered Tiger Stadium, including former LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne, comedian and podcaster Theo Von and model Brooks Nader. They likely won't be the only celebrities we see on the sideline Saturday night.
LSU signed up for a circus when it hired Kiffin, and they're certainly getting what they paid for. Kiffin's track record at Ole Miss speaks for itself, but he has also introduced plenty of potential distractions.
We'll see if the star-studded stadium entrance is just a corny moment before a big win or a sign of a lack of focus.

Rob Gronkowski has certainly shared a hot take for the 2026 NFL season, which has left Kay Adams amazed.
The former New England Patriots tight end has named the new Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray as his dark horse for the MVP award.
Considering Murray has spent three of the last four seasons finishing bottom of the NFC West with the Arizona Cardinals, this would certainly be some turnaround.
Kevin O'Connell named Murray as the starter for the Vikings over J.J. McCarthy following his offseason move to Minnesota earlier in the year.

Glasner confirmed Daniel Munoz could make his debut after his move from Crystal Palace but the Colombia defender is still working towards full fitness: "He is available. Ben Stokes is set to make his mark in the Big Bash League with the Adelaide Strikers, and coach Tim Paine believes the England all-rounder could be particularly effective if he opens the batting.

Stokes' one-year deal with the Strikers was confirmed on Tuesday, making him available for the entire BBL season. Paine believes the 35-year-old can make an impact across all three departments while also bringing his leadership experience to the side. The Strikers had Matt Short and Chris Lynn as their regular opening combination last season, but Lynn is currently off contract, meaning the pair could be split up even if he returns to the franchise.
Paine sees Stokes as an ideal candidate to take the new ball with the bat, particularly on Australia's traditionally pace-friendly and bouncy pitches.

"Stokes gives us a lot of flexibility. I think initially my chats around how we would use him would probably be opening the batting. I think he's made to open the batting in Big Bash. I think the pacy, bouncy wickets in Australia really suit him," Paine said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

The former Australia captain also highlighted Stokes' ability to attack all areas of the ground and change the momentum of an innings almost instantly.

"I have been on the end of a couple of these devastating innings in Test cricket where you feel like you cannot defend the field. He can play 360 degrees. He has got power. He has got some real class," he added.

Although Stokes has opened in only 16 of his 148 T20 innings, the numbers suggest he is at his most productive in that role. He averages 36.53 and has a strike rate of 138.48 as an opener. One of his two T20 centuries also came while opening, when he smashed an unbeaten 107 off 60 ****** for Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 IPL. His other T20 century came for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017, when he scored 103 off 63 deliveries.

However, much of Stokes' T20 career has seen him bat at No. 3, 4 or 5. He has not played a T20 match since The Hundred in 2024, where he managed only four runs across three innings.

"I think he can do a terrific job opening the batting. Playing pretty normally, as we have seen in the past, he can flick a switch, and he has got amazing power. His skill level with the bat and his play of spin, he has just a well-rounded, world-class batter. We think that is probably the best fit for him and for us," Paine said.
Paine also believes Stokes could have an impact with the ball, suggesting his pace and ability to move the ball could make him a useful option in different phases of an innings.

"He is a bit quicker than people think. He has got great skill. He can swing the ball both ways. We feel like we can use him in all phases of the game with the ball as well. He will impact in the field with his athleticism and just the way he competes," he said.

The Saints claimed cornerback Decamerion Richardson off waivers, according to the NFL's personnel notice.
Richardson, 25, was waived by the Raiders on Monday.
The Raiders drafted him in the fourth round in 2024. He started seven games as a rookie but barely got on the field on defense in 2025, playing only 13 snaps.
Richardson did play 204 special teams snaps last season.

You know, Tottenham Hotspur's pursuit of Mykhailo Mudryk doesn't make a lick of sense to me and I think I've been pretty clear about that from the beginning. But you know what makes even LESS sense? There's apparently a purchase option on Mudryk's loan, and it's 75 freakin' pounds.
I mean, what the absolute ***** ? At some level it doesn't really matter because there's no way on God's green earth Spurs are going to pay that much money for Mykhailo Mudryk, even if he's better than I think he is, which is not good. But even so, why set the option that high? It leaves no way to negotiate, even if Mudryk is better than expected. Like — hypothetical — let's say Mudryk turns out to be pretty good but not amazing and we'd like to keep him beyond his loan, there's no real way we can approach Chelsea and say "will you take £30m" because £75m is now the baseline of expectations. I know Chelsea spent like £7om plus escalators to sign him, so that would represent a straight profit for a guy who was awful in his first season and has not kicked a ball competitively for the last two.
Insanity. But I guess we can safely say we're probably not signing him permanently no matter what, huh?

A football player of William Jewell College passed away on Saturday following his collapse on the sidelines of the school's season-opener game just minutes after he scored a touchdown, the school said.
Junior running back MicahJo Barnett received medical help at Greene Stadium and was then transported to the nearest hospital by an ambulance, where he was declared dead. Liberty authorities said the medical team responded to the player 20 minutes after kickoff but provided no other details. He was 21 years old.
The game against Fort Lewis College, another NCAA Division II squad, was stopped and later canceled. Barnett scored the touchdown by running for 1 yard with 5:15 left in the first quarter, and play was interrupted with 4:32 remaining after Fort Lewis punts went out of bounds, according to online match statistics. He gained 30 yards in six carries, and William Jewell led the score 7-0.
"William Jewell College and the Liberty community mourn the passing of MicahJo Barnett. Our thoughts and prayers are with MicahJo's family, teammates, friends, coaches, and faculty and staff," said the school in its statement. Liberty Fire EMS stated that Barnett showed seizure-like symptoms, as reported by Fox4 KC.
The cause of death is still not clear. A college spokeswoman told Newsweek that Barnett had no known pre-existing condition that could have prevented him from playing, and that no further information about the nature or cause of the emergency is available at this time. Barnett was enrolled in the business administration program and was connected to Liberty, the city where William Jewell's campus is located. While being a senior at Liberty North, he helped the Eagles win a Missouri state championship.

ESPN is removing its BottomLine ticker during its college football broadcast this season.
This season, all college football games on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNU, and ESPNEWS will go without the BottomLine.
This is in hopes of providing a cleaner viewing experience during games.
ESPN will still give score alerts throughout game broadcasts.
Fox, CBS, and NBC do not have an on-screen ticker during games on their broadcast networks. FS1 kept the ticker on during games last season, while Big Ten Network did not.

Good Good CEO Matt Kendrick took to social media early Friday morning to slam Callaway for the advertisement controversy that has dominated golf headlines all week.
At 3:38 a.m. ET Friday, Kendrick wrote on X/Twitter, "Interesting that Callaway Golf asks us to make an ad then approves it then asks us to take the fall then drops us in a coordinated media blitz and covers it up by giving a million dollars away thinking everyone will be ok with it. 30 for 39 will be legendary."
Kendrick also replied to a slew of posts from other users, most notably one who suggested Good Good file a lawsuit against Callaway, to which Kendrick responded "not opposed." That reply has since been deleted, but screenshots rapidly circulated social media.
Late Friday morning, David Rumsey with Front Office Sports managed to get Kendrick on the phone and published a Q&A, in which Kendrick said that Good Good is "not thinking about" suing Callaway and that the X post was "just off the cuff responding to a comment." Kendrick told Rumsey that he never saw the video before it went live and that Good Good "removed the people responsible" for the ad.
Kendrick was also asked about why he decided to send the initial X post Friday regarding the situation with Callaway: "It's just been tough with everything I've seen from what's come towards my family and things like that, and the frustration, it's just tough," Kendrick said. "You don't like being kicked when you're down. It's definitely reactionary, but it comes from a place of just not liking what's coming from this to us personally. It's been tough. The company is one thing, but family is a whole 'nother thing.

Chelsea want a higher price than £120m for Enzo Fernandez amid Manchester City's ongoing interest in the midfielder.
Chelsea had long been open to business for a £120m fee for the Argentina international in what was already a complicated saga, but it is understood that no longer applies, partly due to how summer market valuations have risen.
One of the higher prices was the £116m fee City themselves paid to Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson this summer, and it now appears they would have to greatly increase on that club record to secure Fernandez.

In the daunting NFC West, Arizona will string its marriage of convenience with Jacoby Brissett along for one more season, and we'll see what happens in the 2027 NFL Draft.
The Falcons boast Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts Sr., an extremely talented group of offensive weapons. But with Michael Penix Jr. or Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback, it won't matter in the end. It's really sad to watch Penix Jr. and Tagovailoa's bodies betray them. It also really stinks to consider Atlanta wasting another talented roster in the quarterback wilderness and missing the playoffs for a ninth straight season.

MASON, Ohio (AP) — Elena Rybakina stopped playing during the first set of her quarterfinal match against Iga Swiatek at the Cincinnati Open on Thursday night.
With the No. 2-ranked Rybakina serving at 1-4, 40-40, she took a medical timeout to have trainers address her left ankle area.
Rybakina appeared to injure herself during the previous point. After several minutes, she returned to the court but retired from the match after attempting one serve.
Rybakina lost to Swiatek in the semifinals in Cincinnati last year.
With top seed Aryna Sabalenka losing Thursday night to Sara Bejlik, the 27-year-old Rybakina could have risen to No. 1 in the rankings by reaching the final.

LIV golf has had an interesting existence. The rogue golf league burst onto the scene five years ago, luring star golfers away from the PGA Tour with huge sums of guaranteed money. LIV remained defiant throughout its existence, but earlier this year it seemed the ride might be coming to an end when Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund announced it was walking away.
At the time, LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil insisted the organization was funded through 2026. He even sent an e-mail to staff saying the season would go on "exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle."

Two weeks later LIV "postponed" an event scheduled for the end of June in Louisiana. This only raised more questions about whether the league really was actually funded. Luckily, in early August O'Neil announced that LIV had found new funding. Via ESPN:
"LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the league's next era, driven by and for the players," O'Neil said in a statement. "We're also seeing strong interest from more than a dozen additional parties to potentially serve as minority investors, creating a multi-partner model built for long-term stability and growth."

Sandwiched between Big Ten media days and the start of the college football season are not only preseason camp at Ohio State, but also most of the preseason watch lists for all the awards are released.
We've heard from quite a few of the organizations that release these sorts of things, and almost always, there will be a little scarlet and gray flair to them, and that's exactly what we are seeing. The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is handed out by the Football Writers ****** ociation of America to the best defensive player in college football annually, and two Ohio State players were among the names appearing on its preseason watch list.
Defensive back Jaylen McClain and defensive end Kenyatta Jackson Jr. were the two Buckeyes who made the cut, and for good reason. McClain has a tremendous upside and is getting a lot of preseason buzz for what he might mean for the back end of the OSU defense this year. He wasn't one of the main stars of the defense last year but has experienced playing time and should be one of the main playmakers in 2026.
It was welcome news when Jackson decided to come back for one more season rather than enter the NFL draft. Newcastle United changed shirts in the first half of their pre-season friendly against Bayer Leverkusen.
The hosts walked out in their black and white home kit, which has a blue trim, but decided to ditch it during the first hydration break at St James' Park on Saturday.
There was an apparent colour clash with Bayer Leverkusen's away kit, which is mint with a blue pattern, so Newcastle players put on their lilac third strip instead.
The German side went on to win the game 2-1.

CHICAGO (AP) — Clay Holmes and three Cubs relievers combined on a three-hitter, and Seiya Suzuki hit a three-run homer Friday to send Chicago to a 3-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Making his second start and first at Wrigley Field since being acquired from the New York Mets at the trade deadline, Holmes (5-5) retired his first 16 batters before José Fermin singled in the sixth.
Holmes, who missed three months with a broken right fibula before the trade, struck out three, walked one and allowed one hit in 6 2/3 innings, exiting to a standing ovation. Ryan Rolison, Ryan Zeferjahn and Jacob Webb followed, with Webb pitching the ninth for his ninth save.
For the first five innings, Matthew Liberatore (5-10) was just as good as Holmes. He set down his first 13 batters before Nico ***** ner singled in the fifth.
Liberatore ran into trouble in the sixth, allowing the first two batters to reach before retiring Pete Crow-Armstrong on a foul popup and yielding to George Soriano.
