You know, Tottenham Hotspur's pursuit of Mykhailo Mudryk doesn't make a lick of sense to me and I think I've been pretty clear about that from the beginning. But you know what makes even LESS sense? There's apparently a purchase option on Mudryk's loan, and it's 75 freakin' pounds.
I mean, what the absolute ***** ? At some level it doesn't really matter because there's no way on God's green earth Spurs are going to pay that much money for Mykhailo Mudryk, even if he's better than I think he is, which is not good. But even so, why set the option that high? It leaves no way to negotiate, even if Mudryk is better than expected. Like — hypothetical — let's say Mudryk turns out to be pretty good but not amazing and we'd like to keep him beyond his loan, there's no real way we can approach Chelsea and say "will you take £30m" because £75m is now the baseline of expectations. I know Chelsea spent like £7om plus escalators to sign him, so that would represent a straight profit for a guy who was awful in his first season and has not kicked a ball competitively for the last two.
Insanity. But I guess we can safely say we're probably not signing him permanently no matter what, huh?
