Startups spend years courting brand-name investors to build credibility before they go public. Rarely does one of those investors also happen to be the company's biggest supplier, and in a roundabout way, one of its own paying customers.
Nscale, a two-year-old British AI cloud computing firm, is negotiating to raise up to $3.5 billion ahead of a planned U.S. stock listing, according to Bloomberg.
Nvidia (NVDA) is expected to supply about $2 billion of that financing, with hedge fund Third Point leading a separate tranche of convertible notes and Goldman Sachs running the process.
The arrangement would make Nscale's chip supplier one of its largest shareholders just weeks before the company asks public investors to back a valuation roughly double its last private round.

Xi rarely travels abroad with corporate executives, many of whom fell out of favour after Beijing's regulatory crackdowns on the technology, education and property sectors that began in 2020.
"The White House is not tracking a Chinese CEO delegation," an official said. The White House did not explain what they meant by tracking.

A versatile and highley rated performer, on paper it seemed to some as if Calvin Palmer's big money move in February 1968 was exactly what Sunderland's struggling squad needed, and yet when he departed two years the later his release felt inevitable – and the man that had brought him was certainly happy to see him go.
Bought by the recently reinstalled Alan Brown, Palmer's issues rarely came down to ability. Although fans felt they never got to see the same all action displays he produced at previous club Stoke City they still recognised his versatility and commitment to winning, particularly during one early appearance when against Stoke he took over from the injured Jimmy Montgomery in goal. It was an example of the type of self-sacrifice Brown would usually appreciate and yet the pair were unable to ever strike up a working relationship, a clash of personalities meaning that the notoriously formidable manager and his unconventional recruit often ***** ed heads.
Palmer would invariably take his football seriously but as a character struggled to acquiesce to Brown's rigid structure and expectations. A squad trip to a cinema the month after signing, during which Palmer decided to leave early, led to Brown disciplining him for a breach of club rules for instance, and once the tone was set a number of other battles followed. By January 1970 Palmer was on the transfer list at his own request, and there was clearly no way back for him.
A court case and subsequent driving ban that month served to emphasise the differences between the player and manager; Palmer had found himself on the wrong side of the law whilst Brown had previously served as a police officer and maintained a strict zero tolerance attitude towards any sort of infringements thereafter. In more modern times it might be sensed that Palmer's nature simply warranted a different approach, but the 'Bomber's' management style never relied on subtlety and in the May he confirmed his decision to cut his losses on the £70,000 fee that had been paid and gave his player a free transfer.
It was presumed that this would be the end of the matter, but Palmer, often accused of being 'outspoken' in those more deferential times, did still intend of having the final word. NextEra Energy says an artificial intelligence (AI)–driven dispatch and outage-scheduling tool has saved its customers more than $20 million so far this year. Santee Cooper expects a custom AI weather-forecasting model to help it avoid spot-market purchases that can cost $100,000 an hour during extreme weather. Both utilities say the tools moved from concept to production in a matter of weeks, not years.The two companies detailed their AI deployments during a Sept. 2 virtual media roundtable hosted by Google Cloud, alongside Raiford Smith, the company's global director of power and energy industry. On August 12, Flywire (NASDAQ:FLYW) expanded its partnership with Trustly, bringing "Pay by Bank" open banking payments to customers across the US and Canada. The expansion lets payers authorize ACH and Pre-Authorized Debit transfers straight from their bank login, skipping the routing and account numbers that trip up so many cross-border payments. It is the kind of unglamorous plumbing upgrade that rarely makes headlines, but for a company built on moving money across borders, cutting payment friction is close to the whole business model.
Flywire and Trustly have partnered since 2017, first in Europe, and this expansion carries that same playbook into North America. Trustly runs a real-time balance check the moment a payer authorizes a transaction, catching insufficient funds before the payment is submitted rather than after. For cross-border transfers, Flywire manages the funds through the return window itself, which cuts down on the reversals that have long made international payments messy for clients and their customers alike. "We're applying the open banking infrastructure we've successfully scaled across Europe to North America, enabling our clients to confidently offer their payers a proven experience," said Kate Moran, Flywire's Vice President of Global Payments.
The timing lines up with a quarter of accelerating growth. Many parents have the lofty goal to cover the full cost of their children's college education.
A record share of parents in the US — 41% — plan to pony up for their kids' entire higher education bill, up from 37% in 2024, according to new research from Fidelity Investments.
That's great news for the kids. But it's rarely a wise move for their parents.
"Unless parents have fully funded their retirement — meaning that they have already saved all of the money they will need — footing the entire bill for children' s education is rarely the best move and can be detrimental to parents' own future," Liz Windisch, a wealth adviser in Denver, told Yahoo Finance.
The motivation is genuine. Nearly 9 in 10 parents say their own student debt motivates them to help their kids, and more than half say having to pay off their loans delayed them from starting to save for retirement.

However, with three NFL draft candidates, the University of Cincinnati is trying to change that.
Left guard Evan Tengesdahl, left tackle Joe Cotton and center Taran Tyo aim to turn Nippert Stadium into the Football House of Pancakes. The trio anchors an offensive line that was among the best in the nation last season.
The linemen have been featured on billboards throughout Cincinnati, along with television and radio advertisements, ahead of Saturday's game against Boston College.
"They deserve the promotion. They were one of the top offensive line units in the country last year, and you've got a bunch of them back," coach Scott Satterfield said. "Most of the time, you don't give O-linemen much love. They never get to score, they don't get to make catches or carry the ball. They get their joy in seeing running backs score or blocking for the quarterback."

On August 25, Qfin Holdings (NASDAQ:QFIN) reported second-quarter results that tell two very different stories at once. Total loan volume fell 25.1% year over year to RMB63,377 million, and non-GAAP net income dropped to RMB454.9 million from RMB946 million just one quarter earlier. Non-GAAP earnings per diluted ADS sank to RMB3.72 from RMB7.70. But buried in the same release, revenue from the company's technology solutions business jumped more than sixfold, and management laid out plans to turn Qfin into what it calls an AI-native lender. Investors have to weigh both halves of that picture.
The clearest growth story sits inside Qfin's tech solutions arm. Loan volume tied to that unit hit RMB10.5 billion for the quarter, up 515% from a year earlier, while the outstanding balance climbed to roughly RMB16.1 billion, up 313%. Through its FocusPRO platform, Qfin now helps banks serve borrowers priced between 3% and 12%, a segment its own consumer lending rarely touches. During the quarter, the company signed two new AI agent projects with banking partners, one built to support loan officers from lead identification through conversion, the other aimed at SME credit review and approval. CEO Wu Haisheng framed the effort as an organizational shift, saying it is "about turning individual and team experience into shared reusable organizational capabilities."
Risk metrics also moved in the right direction during the quarter itself. The 30-day collection rate rose to 88.1%, up 2.3 percentage points sequentially, while the C-M2 delinquency ratio fell 17% sequentially to 0.66%, nearing year-ago levels. On the funding side, ABS issuance jumped 90% sequentially to RMB5.5 billion while issuance costs fell roughly 20 basis points, and overall funding costs eased about 10 basis points as the company leaned on a track record of stable ******* et performance. On August 29, Reuters reported that Honda Motor Co. Ltd. (NYSE:HMC) and Nissan Motor could reach an agreement as soon as the following Monday to jointly develop a vehicle operating system and onboard computer, according to ***** an's Nikkei newspaper. An eventful Week 2 of the high school season saw some wet bulb delays, a coach get his first-ever victory, and a Sun Valley sweep.
Here is "The Friday Five" — that's what we call our new feature rounding up the five most important things that happened in Week 2.
Congratulations to Nick King. The former Palm Springs high athletic standout and now first-year head coach at Shadow Hills picked up the first victory of his coaching career Friday. The Knights' defense solved the Wing-T offense of Palo Verde Valley and the offense got on track as Shadow Hills pulled away for a 26-6 victory. Damian Walls had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the win. King and Company will have a short week and a tough task in Week 3 as they play at Yucaipa on Thursday. But tonight, Coach King can go ahead and exhale and celebrate the fact that he's a winning high school head coach.
Last week, the Rancho Mirage defense bent, but rarely broke, as they turned away and shut down a solid Yucca Valley offense. This week, the Rancho Mirage defense bent, but rarely broke, as they turned away and shut down a solid Coachella Valley offense. The Rattlers flummoxed their second straight DVL team and have found a nice mix of offense and defense early this season. There's been a lot of talk about the Rattlers sophomore class and that was on display in this one as the four touchdowns were scored by four different sophomores. Wow! Bentley Arredondo, Jadarius Hester, Reid Keane and Jayden Ayers all scored. That's 2-0 for the Rattlers and that's a good feeling.
The Blackhawks took their usual opening week bye week and there was absolutely no rust to be found as La Quinta ran around, over and through Yucca Valley for a 58-28 victory. The only thing that slowed them down was a wet bulb delay to start the game as La Quinta showed off its balanced offense. Talented tailback Colton LaCrone did his thing with 136 yards rushing and two TDs on 16 carries, while QB Mason Flores threw for 187 yards and three touchdown passes. The defense did its part getting a safety from Dominyck Gonzalez and a pick six from Alfredo Castro. Sure there was some sloppy play that gave coach Juan Ruiz something to talk about during film sessions, but he said it best "Even if there was some sloppy moments, nothing beats starting off the year with a W." One note for Yucca Valley in a mostly forgettable night, Aiden Pope did return a kickoff for a touchdown.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is facing a few questions, and shortcomings, entering his fourth NFL season.
He's not tall, he's quick but not particularly fast, he has decent but not great arm power and he has a high ceiling but a very low basement. He's also remarkably inconsistent from week to week.
One thing you can't argue with is that he's undeniably clutch. No quarterback has more game-winning drives since Young entered the league in 2023, and he's been ranked as the 10th-most clutch quarterback in the league by Bleacher Report.
Analyst Brad Gagnon writes:
This may seem odd considering his broad struggles three years in, but Young has actually led an NFL-high 12 game-winning drives since coming into the league in 2023. Part of that comes from the fact that the Panthers rarely blow teams out, but his 99.8 third-down passer rating in the second half of one-score games since 2024 indicates a significant clutch factor with the 25-year-old. Imagine where he could go with more support in key moments in the future.

On August 18, Keysight Technologies (NYSE:KEYS) delivered a fiscal third quarter that beat the high end of its own guidance across the board. Revenue climbed 36% year over year to $1.85 billion, non-GAAP earnings per share jumped 79% to $3.07, and orders topped $2 billion for the second straight quarter. Management raised its outlook for both the fourth quarter and the full fiscal year, pointing to demand tied to artificial intelligence infrastructure, defense modernization, and next-generation communications standards. The results position Keysight as one of the more direct ways to invest in the testing and validation side of the AI buildout, a corner of the market most investors rarely think about.
Orders reached $2.091 billion in the quarter, up 56% on a reported basis, the second straight quarter above the $2 billion mark. Wireline orders more than doubled year over year as customers scaled out AI data center infrastructure, and Commercial Communications crossed $1 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time, up 56%, while revenue from wireline products outpaced wireless within that segment for the first time. The Electronic Industrial Solutions Group posted a record $501 million in revenue, up 21%, with double-digit order growth across general electronics, semiconductors, and automotive and energy. Aerospace, defense and government revenue grew 14% to $339 million as spending shifted toward lower-cost autonomous platforms, including UAVs and low earth orbit satellite constellations built by venture-funded defense technology firms.
Profitability expanded right alongside the growth: operating margin hit 33.2%, up 820 basis points and above the company's long-term target range of 31% to 32%, while free cash flow rose to $403 million from $291 million a year earlier. The company also added nearly 3,000 new customers so far this fiscal year, a group that has already contributed more than $100 million in new business, and said July was its busiest month yet for incoming sales opportunities, pushing the trailing 12-month pipeline to a record. Further out, the 3GPP standards body confirmed in June that the first 6G standard is targeted for March 2029, a milestone management said is already moving customers from exploratory research into funded development work.
CFO Neil Dougherty tempered the enthusiasm, warning that supply availability remains "a governor of our ability to convert demand into revenue" over the next several quarters, meaning orders are outrunning what the company can actually ship and book as revenue right now. He also noted that one-time tariff impacts in fiscal 2026 inflated this year's profitability in ways that are not expected to repeat in fiscal 2027. That combination, a backlog constrained by supply and a margin base partly lifted by tariffs, complicates how much of this quarter's strength carries forward unchanged. The integration of recent acquisitions is also still working through the system.

Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly reached an agreement with Serie A outfit Bologna on a transfer for Arthur Theate.
The Belgian international, according to Sky Germany's sources, is set to be loaned out first, including a purchase option.
Should the Italian club wish to buy the versatile defender, Frankfurt have seemingly set the purchase fee at around €15 million.
The departure comes as no real surprise given new coach Adi Hütter apparently rarely included Theate in his pre-season plans.
After an initial loan phase, the 26-year-old joined the Hessen club permanently for €13million from Stade Rennais in 2025.

Picking a NASCAR Cup Series winner is rarely easy. Picking one at Daytona International Speedway can feel closer to throwing darts.
That hasn't stopped oddsmakers from identifying two drivers as the men to beat entering Saturday night's **** e Zero Sugar 400.
William Byron and Ryan Blaney are the co-favorites at +850 for NASCAR's regular-season finale, according to the latest odds listed by FOX Sports. Joey Logano sits alone behind them at +1100, while Tyler Reddick, Christopher Bell and Chase Elliott are each +1200.
The Cup Series returns to the 2.5-mile Daytona superspeedway Saturday, Aug. 29, with the green flag scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC. The race will also determine the 16-driver field for NASCAR's returning Chase postseason format.

Pat Bryant could be headed for a Year 2 breakout with the Denver Broncos.
Bryant (6-2, 204 pounds) finished his rookie season strong, totaling 26 receptions for 332 yards and one touchdown in his final nine games of the campaign, and he's been the talk of training camp this summer.
Broncos coach Sean Payton has been full of praise for the receiver's ability to keep his feet on the ground while making a catch. That underrated skill helps Bryant pick up yards after the catch, and it's just one of his strengths.
"[He has] consistency, he has really strong hands," Payton said. "I've said this before, if you watch tape and you're looking at it, rarely does he have to leave his feet to make a clean catch. Even if you just skip to catch it, at that moment, everyone's moving and you're kind of frozen and rarely does he do that.
"So his yards-after-catch are noticeably different because his feet are on the ground as he runs through a ball. He's smart, he's sudden, he's big. He's having a heck of a camp. You guys have seen it, and it's been consistent. He's super intelligent. It's really important to him, and I like his size."

The stakes are high as one of the great rivalries in baseball is renewed tonight in the Bronx. The Yankees (75-58) and the Red Sox (73-60) are each making the playoffs. Neither is out of the division race but the more obvious race is for the top Wild Card spot. The Yankees currently hold the top spot with the Sox sitting two games behind. Boston trails the Bronx Bombers by just two games for that top Wild Card spot. The fact that there is any intrigue in that race is remarkable considering that on July 1 the Red Sox were 10 games UNDER .500 and the Yankees were 11 games OVER .500.
