This was the 23rd week of full minor league play (stats are entering play on Monday, September 14th).
According to FanGraphs (which factors in age and proximity to the big leagues), prospect Theo Gillen tops the system and might just find himself in the running for Minor League Player of the Year. Gillen ranks 4th among all minor leaguers while Caden Bodine ranks 11th.
Meanwhile, Aidan Cremarosa is the top hurler in the system. Over his first professional season, Cremarosa has a 2.82 ERA | 3.02 FIP with a 29.8 K% & 6.0 BB% over 76.2 IP in Single-A. FanGraphs slotted the 22-year old as the 30th top prospect in the Rays system during their midseason rankings.
The Bowling Green Hot Rods lost to the Winston-Salem Dash in the South Division portion of the South Atlantic League playoffs.
Grady Emerson returned to action to pinch run for the Charleston River Dogs a few days after leaving a game early after being hit by a pitch

As the Miami Hurricanes continue the journey of the 2026 regular season, our friends at FanDuel Sportsbook have released odds for the week 3 road game against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
With no further ado, your FanDuel Sportsbook line of the week:
Per FanDuelSports, your Miami Hurricanes open as 21.5pt road favorites over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in week 3's Friday night ACC game.
Over/Under 53.5
For Miami, they're a national championship contender, if not favorite at this point of the year. With one of the most talented rosters in the country the Canes look to use and explosive offense led by star QB Darian Mensah and all-world WR Malachi Toney, Miami is going to be lighting up scoreboards all over the country all year long.
After dropping 77 points and a program-record 856 yards of offense last week against an overmatched FAMU Rattlers team, Miami will look to deploy their explosive offense again in Winston Salem this Friday night. While the numbers may be lower than last week, they should still be plenty robust. Miami has one of the most explosive offenses in the country, led by the duo of Mensah and Toney, and a run game that is very talented as well and rounding into form.

The New York Giants have reached a two-year, $22 million contract extension with starting left guard Jon Runyan Jr., according a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.
That follows on the heels of the news that backup quarterback Jameis Winston has also signed an extension that will keep him with the team through the 2028 season.
Runyan's extension reportedly includes $21.5 million guaranteed, and is a higher average annual value than the three-year, $30 million contract Runyan signed with the Giants in 2024.
Runyan receiving an extension like this could be considered a shocking development.
The 29-year-old entered the spring in the final year of his contract. Many figured this would be his final season with the Giants, and that he would face a challenge for his starting left guard job.

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Giants signed backup quarterback James Winston to a two-year, $13 million contract extension, according to a person with knowledge of the move.
The person spoke to The **** ociated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday because the deal had not been announced. The extension saves salary cap **** e this season and keeps Winston under contract through 2028.
Winston, 32, was going into the second of a two-year, $8 million deal, initially signed before the Giants traded up to select Jaxson Dart in the first round of the 2025 draft. He appeared in two games last season after starting third on the depth chart behind Russell Wilson and Dart.
Now firmly No. 2 and serving in a mentor role, Winston gives new coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy an experienced QB to step in when Dart is unavailable. He is also on Harbaugh's leadership council, a group of players counted on to serve as a liaison between the staff and the rest of the team.
Winston is going into his 12th NFL season since being the No. 1 overall pick by Tampa Bay in 2015 after winning the Heisman Trophy in 2013. The Giants are his fourth organization after stints with the Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns.

Just before the start of the 2026 season, the New York Giants reportedly signed quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year contract extension.
According to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants are keeping Winston on a two-year deal worth up to $13 million.
Though Jaxson Dart is entering his second season as the unquestioned starting quarterback following a promising rookie campaign, having Winston backing him up on the depth chart is a strong value to have in the room.
Winston was entering the final year of his previous two-year deal with the Giants. The details of the contract have yet to be released as of this writing, but this should alleviate some salary-cap concerns to begin the campaign.
It's been years since Winston has operated as a full-time starter, but he's wound up seeing spot-start action over the last few seasons. In 2025 with the Giants, Winston appeared in three games (two starts) while completing 37 of 66 pass attempts (56.1%) for 567 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Brittany Boltinhouse lost her Miss North Carolina USA crown less than a month ago, but she already has another one.
According to People, Boltinhouse announced that she has been named Miss Global Honduras 2026, putting the 27-year-old back into international pageant competition just weeks after she was dethroned as Miss North Carolina USA. She is now headed to Thailand in October to compete for the Miss Global crown — while simultaneously suing Miss USA and North Carolina pageant officials over the fallout from her removal.
COMPLEX SHOP: Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Uncover what's next. Buy. Collect. Obsess.
Boltinhouse announced the comeback on Instagram with a Winston Churchill quote that left little ambiguity about her mindset: "Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never."
CNB Latin America confirmed that Boltinhouse will represent Honduras, saying the organization selected her to showcase "the love, passion, charisma, and rich culture of the Honduran people" internationally.

LSU football QB Sam Leavitt made his anticipated Tiger Stadium debut on Saturday night. LSU signed Leavitt as the top-ranked quarterback in the transfer portal. Leavitt spent the last two years at Arizona State before searching for a new home.
Leavitt's 2025 was cut short by foot surgery. That injury kept Leavitt out through much of spring practice and he didn't hit full stride until the summer. There were questions. Would Leavitt be rusty? Would the foot injury linger and affect his mobility? How would Leavitt gel with a transfer-heavy offense?
Those concerns were put to rest on Saturday night. Leavitt's mobility was more than find -- it was elite. Leavitt ran for over 100 yards and averaged 9.3 yards per carry. The LSU QB found the end zone twice with his legs.
Leavitt put up strong numbers in the air, too, throwing for 230 yards and finding Winston Watkins for a touchdown. Here's a look at Leavitt's LSU debut by the numbers.
16/28, 230 yards, 8.2 yards per attempt, one touchdown, one interception, 95.0 QBR

A win at Darlington counts the same in the standings as any other NASCAR Cup Series victory. But the Southern 500 has never been just another race.
First run in 1950, the Southern 500 has grown into one of NASCAR's crown-jewel races, combining more than 75 years of history with a Labor Day tradition and a winner's list filled with some of the sport's biggest names.
Why the Southern 500 Is One of NASCAR's Crown-Jewel Races
Darlington Raceway opened in 1950 as NASCAR's first paved superspeedway and hosted the inaugural Southern 500. Seventy-five cars entered and roughly 25,000 fans showed up to watch, but it was Johnny Mantz, the slowest qualifier in the entire field, who ultimately won. While other drivers spent the race battling tire failures, Mantz used hard-compound truck tires to outlast the field and drive his way into NASCAR history. Darlington Raceway
Over the decades, the Southern 500 became closely tied to Labor Day weekend and established itself among NASCAR's biggest events. Its status was reinforced in 1985 when the race became one of four included in the Winston Million, a $1 million bonus available to a driver who could win three of NASCAR's major races. Bill Elliott secured the bonus by winning the Southern 500 that year, and Jeff Gordon repeated the accomplishment in 1997. NASCAR

The 27-year-old dethroned state ******* leholder was announced as Miss Global Honduras 2026 in the pageant's Aug. 31 Instagram post, and now she will represent Honduras at the Miss Global competition in Thailand this October. Brittany Boltinhouse, the former Miss North Carolina USA 2026 winner who had her ****** le stripped due to conduct that violated the organization's standards, has announced her return to the pageant world.

A 17-year-old North Carolina girl who recorded a livestream of a shooting that killed three people at a San Diego mosque and disseminated the attackers' white-supremacist writings has been charged with murder by aiding and abetting, a district attorney said Monday.
Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O'Neill said at a news conference in Winston-Salem that the girl, whose name was not mentioned during the news conference, was arrested last week. On Monday, just before she was due to begin the school year, a grand jury indicted her on three counts of murder and one count of conspiracy.
Under North Carolina law, the aiding-and-abetting charges carry the same penalties as if the girl had committed the attack herself, O'Neill said.
"The individual here, locally, was the person who was recording the livestream," O'Neill said. "She disseminated that information and she published their manifesto."
Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vazquez, 18, stormed the Islamic Center on May 18 before being driven back outside by a security guard who exchanged gunfire with them as he initiated a lockdown, helping to protect 140 children who were just steps away.

Britain's Arthur Fery has reached his first ATP Tour final after opponent James Duckworth retired because of injury at the Winston-Salem Open.
The 24-year-old was leading 6-4 2-1 in the semi-final when his Australian opponent, who called for a medical timeout after the first set, forfeited the match.
Fery is the first Briton to reach the final of the ATP 250 event and his progress continues after his surprise run to the Wimbledon semi-finals in July.
He has also reached a career high of 33 in the world and overtaken Cameron Norrie to become British number one.
"I am really happy to be in the final," said Fery.

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is entering his sophomore season with a new head coach and a plethora of new teammates. Yet, there's one particular teammate who joined the franchise in 2025 who will work most closely with Dart, hoping to boost his morale: veteran quarterback Jameis Winston.
Dart's rookie stint was fairly impressive; he tallied nine rushing touchdowns, 15 passing touchdowns, and just five interceptions. Nevertheless, a few ill-advised risks led Dart to take some big hits, which resulted in concussion protocol mandates.
Dart already has the intangibles to succeed in the NFL, but it's all about execution from this point forward. In Dart's second year, he'll be greatly edified by this wisdom from head coach John Harbaugh and feed off of the charismatic aura of Winston.
Winston has been intentionally thorough with his play in the preseason, posting a QB Rating of 91.4, 15 completions, and 150 yards in the most recent 26-3 exhibition win over the Miami Dolphins. Winston also posted just one incompletion and averaged 9.9 yards per passing attempt in the preseason opener versus the Minnesota Vikings on Aug 15.
Ultimately, Winston's preseason play should leave Dart with an undertone of resilience, a point of reference that Dart will want to replicate when the regular season starts.

The New York Giants have one preseason game left before the 53-man cutdown. Many players on the back end of the roster received ample playing time in the Giants' 26-3 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Josh Ezeudu played 47 snaps for the Giants in Miami and was then traded to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2028 seventh-round pick. Some possible starters received snaps, but most of the first-team rested.
Nevertheless, we saw a Jameis Winston rushing touchdown, 81 J.C. Davis snaps, and a suffocating defense versus a Malik Willis-less — already bad — Dolphins' offense. Here are some tales from the timeline after preseason Week 2.
Arvell Reese played 10 snaps for the Giants and showed his physicality against the Dolphins' 21 personnel package; Reese took on the fullback at the line of scrimmage and created no rushing room in the B-Gap. Reese's fit in the 4-hole to the weak side forced Jaylen Wright (5) into the arms of three Giants' defenders. The upgrade at linebacker for the Giants will secure the continuity of the defense, which should inspire discipline and confidence.
Tyler Nubin (27) breaks on a football just outside his opposite hash. New York ran Cover-2 third-and-10, and Nubin initially opened to his deep half responsibility, but quickly turned to almost intercept the seam pass. Tyler Nubin tied the Minnesota Golden Gophers' interception record with 13 and has yet to secure a regular-season interception through two seasons.
Dru Phillips (22) has always been effective around the line of scrimmage. He's had 63 STOPs over his two-year career. He surrendered a 30-yard catch earlier in the drive above, but he bounced back by showcasing his strength. He does, though, need to get better in coverage to earn a larger snap share in Wilson's scheme.

Jameis Winston is known for a lot of things, and among them is the New York Giants quarterback's passion for giving intense motivational speeches to his teammates before games.
Even before he became a Giant, Winston had gone viral several times for the way he hyped up his teams.
Football fans got a glimpse of one of his sideline monologues recently, when the former Florida State Seminoles star tried to hype up his team for a preseason game against the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

Just before New York took the field for the Dolphins game, Winston talked to his team in such a fiery manner that it seemed as though he was preparing them for a playoff game instead of an essentially meaningless exhibition game in August.

Jameis Winston reminded everyone he still has plenty left in the tank during the New York Giants' 26-3 preseason victory over the Miami Dolphins on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium.
The veteran quarterback started in place of rested starter Jaxson Dart and played the entire first half, completing 15 of 21 passes (two drops) for 150 yards. He also scored on an 11-yard touchdown scramble on the opening drive, turning a broken play into the game's first points.
Asked about the wheels still working on that touchdown run, Winston pointed first to the offensive line.
"Yeah, I think our offensive line just did a good job of setting the tone by establishing the run game. Now sometimes, you get to show the young-school cats that I can still be an athlete and get out the pocket," he told reporters after the game.
Winston said he enjoyed the extended opportunity to run the offense.

The WooSox didn't get much offense in Syracuse (Mets AAA) and, as a result, got walked off with two outs. But it shouldn't have even gotten to that point since they were getting outhit 11-3, so there's some people on the squad we need to tip our caps to. Blake Wehunt didnt' quite make it five innings but kept all but one run off the board despite allowing seven total baserunners. Allen Castro drove a late run in to make this a tie game in the 9th, and Franklin Arias and Romy Gonzalez hit doubles; Arias' scored a pair of runs.
Don't look now, but Arias already has 22 RBIs since his call up to Triple-A a month ago, and his total in 2026 sits at 74. That's a good season by any account, but keep in mind that Arias batted first for a lot of his time in Double-A so that total might be even higher if he wasn't hitting so many solo shots to start the game. That he's consistently been the youngest at his level and hasn't gone more than three days before finding a groove are very, very good signs going forward (as in, after the lockout, in this writer's humble opinion.) Still, Arias is slashing .291/.357/.488(!) in a sample size that is growing bigger and bigger against guys who are getting better and better. And maybe, just maybe, it was all part of Breslow's plan to waltz straight from the Trevor Story (0-4, 2 K's on Friday) contract into Franklin Arias mowing down big league pitching. (And it was just how he drew it up, even down to Andruw Monasterio playing so well this year, right?)
Yes, it was Roman Anthony rehab night against the Fightin Phils (Phillies AA.) Yes, he drove in a run, his third in as many games. Devin Futrell also had a good night on the mound and shoved through six innings even after allowing a first-run home run, displaying a line that could have been plenty enough to take a decision win with a bit more pop at the plate: 6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.
But the real story of the night – aside from Anthony getting closer to beign back with the big league club just in time to be one of the team's "September call-ups" – has got to be how good Justin Gonzales has looked in general this year, but especially since his promotion to Double-A. He hit a triple and his OPS stands at over 1. These are numbers that folks made a big deal out of when Arias started the season hot this year, and there's reason to believe that it's time to pay attention to the outfielder, who won't turn 20 until New Years Eve.
I will not jinx the Drive into saying they might be able to sleepwalk into a win Saturday following a rain delay in which they had a lead. The last time I did that, they sweated out a 7-run performance in the remaining innings and gutted a win out by the skin of their teeth. What I will say is that it's looking good in the third against Winston-Salem (White Sox High-A.) "First" pitch of the double-header is today at 4:30.

This time 15 years ago, now-NFL quarterback Jameis Winston was still deciding where he wanted to spend his college career.
In December of 2011, he took an official visit to Alabama after two unofficial visits earlier that fall. It wasn't a long trip.
Winston is from Hueytown, just about 45 minutes east of Tuscaloosa. That distance was "too close," Winston said during a round of golf in a soon-to-be-released episode of his YouTube podcast "Wonder In Authority."
According to Winston, though, that didn't stop then-coach Nick Saban from seeing if he had a trick in his straw hat to sway him toward the Crimson Tide. Baseball was the defining factor in Winston's college decision, and Winston claims that Saban made a bold request to Alabama's baseball coach at the time.

Like so many joint practices before it, a collaboration between the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins quickly escalated into a melee. Thursday's joint practice between the two teams in Miami got physical fast, with a large number of players getting involved in multiple scrums and having to get separated by coaches.

Dolphins right tackle Austin Jackson and Giants right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor were both reportedly ejected from practice after throwing punches. Giants backup quarterback Jameis Winston was reportedly also involved in the fight, and was taken out for a few plays.
Jackson, who was reportedly kicked out after punching Giants linebacker Arvell Reese in the helmet, later returned to Miami's offensive line for the final series.
It was the second NFL joint practice to break out into a fight this week: The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints ended up in multiple skirmishes in a practice on Tuesday. The league went on to fine the teams $500,00 each.

The Giants will have a new quarterback at practice this week.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that they are signing Jake Haener to the active roster. Haener worked out for the team last month.
Haener was a Saints fourth-round pick in 2023 and spent three seasons with the team. He spent a short period of time with the Chiefs during the 2025 offseason.
Haener appeared in eight games during his time with New Orleans. He was 18-of-39 for 226 yards, a touchdown and an interception in that action.
Jaxson Dart, Jameis Winston, and Brandon Allen are the other quarterbacks on the Giants roster.

With three weeks of training camp complete and the preseason opener in the books, the New York Giants' roster picture continues to sharpen under head coach John Harbaugh. Longer practices, increased physicality, and the first live game action have provided clearer evaluations of positional battles and special-teams contributions, prompting further adjustments from earlier projections.
This updated 53-man outlook reflects those developments while maintaining Harbaugh's emphasis on versatile players, depth, and reliable contributors across the roster. Performances in the preseason loss offered additional insight into how certain players handle game situations, influencing several close calls.
The team remains early in the evaluation process, but the current snapshot captures the strongest consensus following three weeks of camp and the first exhibition contest.
Rinse and repeat. This is not going to change unless there is an injury, and Brandon Allen did very little to state his case in Saturday's loss to the Vikings.

The first week of preseason is here for the New York Giants, and the excitement is palpable. With head coach John Harbaugh **** uming the reins of the franchise and the potential their rookie quarterback showed last season, there was a ton of hype from the fan base.
Unfortunately, the start to their preseason might have given them some serious worry, with Jaxson Dart taking a brutal hit. As a result, he was even checked for a concussion in the tent, leaving fans worried about his status.
After initially keeping his choice private, Harbaugh declared on the day of the game that he planned on giving his starters some reps against the Minnesota Vikings. Understandably, there was excitement from the fans as they finally got to see the crew back in action.
It started solid enough in the first quarter. But then it looked like tragedy struck. Facing a second down, the Giants went for a passing play. However, as soon as Dart got the ball, his running back, Tyrone Tracy, completely whiffed on the block.
What followed was a brutal hit directly to Dart's midsection that caused him to return to the sideline immediately. Taken into the medical tent, New York sent out veteran Jameis Winston to handle the quarterbacking duties.

New York Giants veteran Brandon Allen has spent more than a decade in the NFL as a steady backup quarterback, bouncing between teams while rarely seeing meaningful regular-season action. Yet when the lights dim and the stakes drop in August, few players have been more productive under center.
A recent Pro Football Focus examination of the top preseason performers over the last 10 years places the veteran at the top of the passing volume leaderboard.
By sheer volume, stalwart backup Brandon Allen leads the way with 2,579 preseason passing yards over the last decade. His stat line also illustrates why he has spent his career on the bench rather than as a viable starter, throwing nine touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Allen will likely get an opportunity to add to those totals this summer as he battles for a roster spot with the Giants.
Allen enters the 2026 preseason as the Giants' third-string quarterback, listed behind Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston. As the clear third option on the depth chart, he will undoubtedly receive the bulk of the snaps among the three this summer while New York evaluates its roster and gives its top two signal-callers limited work.
The same PFF study also spotlighted several other players with Giants connections among the decade's preseason standouts.

Thursday night is Netflix's season finale: the MLB Field of Dreams Game live from Dyersville, Iowa. A baseball mecca and hallowed ground for many. Why? Because of its simplicity. Lights, field, corn.
The nostalgia of the Oscar-nominated film runs deep with baseball fans young and old. James Earl Jones' speech mixed in with the emotions of having a catch. The script is just laid out for Netflix to end its first season of MLB coverage with a home run. But will they?
If the first two instances of coverage on the streaming giant have proven anything, it's that Netflix tends to add too much to a proven formula. MLB Opening Night was an utter disaster of a debut for baseball purists. The Home Run Derby was Netflix's attempt to correct some of those mistakes. Thursday night, the lights in Iowa offer a grand finale. One that Netflix needs to take seriously into its offseason.
Netflix wants live events. They don't want baseball games on a regular basis. That's why, entering the season, I knew the approach by Netflix wouldn't be for the purists. The goal was simple: Be different.
The first shot out of the gate was MLB Opening Night. It was filled with 'Netflixing' the start of the MLB baseball season. Plenty of references and signage plugged Netflix content selections. You had Jameis Winston hanging out with fans and the Uso brothers in the stands. Bert Kreischer was in McCovey's Cove, then screaming to the fans about the excitement of Opening Night.
