WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) — If the New York Giants get the same Kayvon Thibodeaux this season who showed up the first few days of training camp, he'll force his way onto the field and make himself a lot of money next spring.
Thibodeaux tipped a pass from Jameis Winston in the first practice and intercepted one in the second earlier this week, showing flashes of what made him the fifth pick in the 2022 draft. He has been playing mostly with the second-string defense, given edge rushers Brian Burns and Abdul Carter also being on the roster.
He brushed that off, along with going into a contract year, as any extra fuel. Still, the Giants very well could get a motivated Thibodeaux after no trade materialized for him at or before the draft, and with a potential payday — likely elsewhere — coming for him in free agency next March.
"You just want to be the best player you can be," Thibodeaux said Saturday. "Keep finding ways to help the team. Keep leading."
Thibodeaux is coming off setting career lows with 2 1/2 sacks, 25 tackles and nine quarterback hits, playing in just 10 games before a shoulder injury ended his fourth NFL season. A reduced role on a unit with Burns and Carter didn't help, and he's not sure where he fits now.

When the New York Giants decided to bring back former star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. this year in free agency, they had no idea what they might get.
The 33-year-old former All-Pro, who has played in just 26 games in this decade and was last in a Giants' uniform in 2018, gave Giant fans a huge thrill at training camp in West Virginia on Saturday afternoon, making a vintage touchdown grab on a pass from quarterback Jameis Winston.
The Giants have a crowded wide receiver room this summer, and Beckham is trying to win a spot as both a mentor to the younger players and a productive option off the sidelines.

Tennessee State football practice is under way with a battle for the starting quarterback position between returning starter Byron McNair and two transfers − Daylin Lee from Winston-Salem State and Marcelis Tate from South Florida.
Second-year coach Reggie Barlow said no one is ahead of the others as the Tigers prepare for their season opener on Aug. 29 against Jackson State in the John Merritt Classic at Vanderbilt.
All three quarterbacks worked with the first unit at practice on July 31. Barlow said he hasn't ruled out giving freshman Justin Patton from McCalla, Alabama, a shot at the job if none of the older players take the reins.
"Daylin's experience speaks for itself; he had a real good command (at Winston-Salem State)," Barlow said. "Tate, for a young guy, he looks like an older guy, but he's only played one year. He's a good player. And, of course, we've got Byron, and then there's Justin (Patton), a freshman who's a good football player. He was here in the spring as an early enrollee."
It is a similar situation to what Barlow faced at TSU last year when three quarterbacks were locked in a battle for the starting ******* ignment among Jonathan Palmer, Caleb McCreary and McNair. Palmer earned the starting position at the start of the season before McNair unseated him in the third game. Palmer returned as the starter later in the season.

SINGAPORE/HONG KONG, July 27 (Reuters) - Investors are expected to scrutinise whether Shein can justify the $40 billion to $50 billion valuation it is seeking in a Hong Kong initial public offering after a prospectus filed ‌on Sunday showed slowing growth and a sharp decline in profitability.
Revenue rose 8% to $41.8 billion in 2025, but net ‌income fell 39% to $2.06 billion. In the first quarter of this year, the fast fashion retailer swung to a $99 million loss, the filing showed.
While the quarterly loss partly reflected a $328 million fair-value charge on convertible redeemable preferred shares following an accounting change, slowing revenue growth and weaker core earnings underscore the company's mounting challenges.
"Institutional investors on the HKEX (Hong Kong Stock Exchange) will ... zero in on the 2.9% operating margin," said Winston Ma, executive director of the Global Public Investment Funds Forum and a former managing director at the China Investment Corporation.

Unlike other blue bloods, Michigan doesn't often reel in high five-star prospects. For every Rashan Gary and Bryce Underwood, there are classes without a single five-star in it that are developed into powerhouse football teams. The class of 2026 is the former, as Michigan brought in two five-stars this offseason in Savion Hiter and Carter Meadows. Meadows has the makings of a star, but will need some time to get ready for Big Ten action.
Meadows hails from Gonzaga High School in Washington D.C., one of the more well-known powerhouse high school programs. In fact, he was high school teammates with fellow Wolverine Kainoa Winston, and Evan Link also attended Gonzaga. In high school, Meadows was 6-foot-6 and 225 pounds. He possesses a frame that NFL scouts tend to drool over out of an edge rusher.
Naturally, a high schooler with elite athleticism and an NFL frame coming from a national powerhouse of a school was bound to get attention nationally. Meadows received offers from just about every major program, with 247Sports listing 29 offers. Carter made four official visits — South Carolina, Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan, in that order.
In typical fashion, Carter's recruitment came down to Michigan and Ohio State. While certain sites may try to convince you the Buckeyes weren't going all in on Meadows, that would be incorrect. Meadows committed to Michigan, as Lou Esposito and company were able to close on Meadows, and Kyle Whittingham and the new staff were able to retain him.
As for his on the field skills, Meadows is about as good as they come for his age. He is an explosive edge with incredible bend and football IQ. He plays smart and is an avid run-defender. Meadows is also advanced for his age when it comes to pass-rushing moves.

The Tennessee **** ans will officially begin training camp on July 28th when the veterans report to Vanderbilt Health Football Camp in Nashville. We’re concluding our positional preview with the secondary, cornerbacks and safeties. The **** ans have 17 defensive backs on the offseason roster. General manager Mike Borgonzi made various acquisitions across these positions.
In camp (17): Alontae Taylor, Cor’Dale Flott, Amani Hooker, Kevin Winston Jr., Marcus Harris, Tony Adams, Joshua Williams, Jerrick Reed II, Jalen McMurray, Latrell McCutchin, Jeadyn Lukus, Kendell Brooks, Sanoussi Kane, Erick Hallett II, Bishop Fitzgerald, Keydrain Calligan, Micah Robinson.
Biggest storyline: The **** ans totally revamped the cornerback room, signing Alontae Taylor and Cor’Dale Flott to very lucrative contracts in free agency. They’ll be tasked with being Robert Saleh’s starting boundary corners. This position needed a makeover after trading Jarvis Brownlee and Roger McCreary, and cutting L’Jarius Sneed. Expectations are high for Taylor and Flott.
Most to prove: Both Kevin Winston Jr. and Marcus Harris are sophomores entering the year in starting roles. The **** ans cut Xavier Woods during the offseason to make room for Winston in the starting lineup opposite Amani Hooker. Harris doesn’t appear to have any competition for the nickel role either.
Breakout star: Winston Jr. is probably the correct choice. The former Penn State standout flashed an exciting skill set when he was healthy as a rookie. Winston is entering camp fully available and should make a massive impact next to Hooker in the lineup. He possesses every trait to be a breakout defender.

Over the last few years, the Iowa women's basketball program has gone big-game hunting in recruiting circles. It looks like Jan Jensen is doing that again in the 2029 class.
The Hawkeyes landed Addie Deal in the 2025 class, McKenna Woliczko in the 2026 class, and Jada Seubert in the 2027 class. She's done a good job supplementing those big recruiting wins with other savvy additions in the transfer portal. Jensen continued Iowa's pursuit of the nation's very best on Wednesday, offering an elite 2029 guard.
Top-ranked 2029 prospect Kristen Winston took to social media to announce she's received an offer from Iowa. ****** istant coach LaSondra Barrett made the call to officially offer her.
Winston is the No. 1 player in the 2029 class, according to ESPN. The 6-foot guard from Birmingham, Ala., is already raking in the offers from top-tier programs. Miami, Notre Dame, Alabama, North Carolina, and Indiana have already offered Winston. That number will only continue to grow over the next few years. It's going to be a tough battle for the Hawkeyes to land her services.
Jensen has shown the ability to win over big-time recruits during her time in Iowa City. She'll need to do it again to bring Winston to Iowa.

For more than a decade, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers knew they could turn to one player whenever they needed a big play, a tough conversion, or a moment of reliability in the passing game.
That player was Mike Evans.
While Evans is no longer in Tampa Bay after leaving in free agency, Pro Football Focus recently highlighted him as one of the NFL's premier "safety blanket" receivers, a recognition that perfectly reflects what he meant to the Buccaneers throughout his historic career.
The label of a safety blanket goes beyond simply being a team's top receiver. It represents a player's quarterback's trust when things break down, when pressure arrives, or when they need someone to make a play in a difficult situation. Evans consistently provided that level of security for every quarterback he played with in Tampa Bay.
From Josh McCown and Jameis Winston to Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield, Evans remained one of the most dependable targets in the league. His combination of size, contested-catch ability, route running, and elite ball skills made him a quarterback's best friend when plays didn't go according to plan.

Quarterback Fernando Mendoza has moved on to the NFL. But he has earned one more accolade for his accomplishments at the college level.
Mendoza was named the 2025-2026 Big Ten Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Mendoza won the CFP national championship with Indiana to cap last season, also winning the Heisman Trophy for his performance for the Hoosiers.
He is the sixth student-athlete from Indiana to win the honor, the first since track and field’s Derek Drouin in 2013.
Mendoza became only the fourth player in the common draft era — and the first from the Big Ten — to win the Heisman, win a national championship, and then go No. 1 overall in the same season. He joined Joe Burrow, Jameis Winston, and Cam Newton in accomplishing that feat.

The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of righthanded relief pitcher Ben Peoples from AAA Round Rock, the team announced today. To make room for Peoples on the active roster, the Rangers have optioned righthanded pitcher Winston Santos to AAA Round Rock. With Peoples being added, the Rangers’ 40 man roster now stands at 39.
Peoples was acquired from the Chicago White Sox earlier this week in exchange for A ball catcher Ben Hartl. Peoples, 25, was a 22nd round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2019. The Rays traded him to the White Sox last summer as part of the package for Adrian Houser.
Peoples was a starter until last season, when he started working exclusively out of the bullpen. In 37 innings over 29 appearances in AAA this year, he has a 2.39 ERA with 45 Ks against 21 walks. He will presumably be part of the middle relief mix for the Rangers.

Workers spend their entire careers saving for retirement, but when it's time to shift from saving to spending, many retirees struggle to know where to begin.
"The biggest mistake I usually see when working with retirees is their treating their retirement savings like one big checking account and every dollar as equally valuable," said Evan Mills, an ***** ociate financial advisor at Scholar Financial Advising in Winston-Salem, N.C. "A 401(k) withdrawal plan, or any withdrawal plan from retirement accounts, should be planned for and built before retirement, not improvised as paychecks stop."
Mills says retirees should have a clear plan for which account they'll tap first, how much they can withdraw without hurting their savings, and how taxes will be managed in each account.

Left back Nathaniel Brown was unable to take part in Germany's final training session before Thursday's last World Cup group match against Ecuador.
The Eintracht Frankfurt player completed an individual session in Winston-Salem due to minor groin complaints.
The 23-year-old is therefore not expected to feature in the game in East Rutherford, with Germany already **** ured of top spot in Group E after two wins.
Brown delivered outstanding performances as a starter against Curaçao (7-1) and Ivory Coast (2-1). His back-up against Ecuador is set to be RB Leipzig's David Raum.
All other 21 outfield players and four goalkeepers took part in the final session at the team base in North Carolina. The German team led by head coach Julian Nagelsmann were flying to New Jersey on Tuesday evening.

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (AP) — Germany defender Nico Schlotterbeck has been ruled out of the rest of the World Cup and beyond with a left ankle injury sustained during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Ivory Coast.
Tests on Sunday back at the team camp in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, revealed Schlotterbeck, who had started both of Germany’s opening games in the tournament, sustained an injury to the medial ligament in his ankle and will be out for several months, the German soccer federation said Monday.
“We will sorely miss Schlotti on the field as an outstanding defender, especially also his brilliant ability to build up play from the back,” Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann said. “It could have been his World Cup. We all tried to lift his spirits yesterday. Luckily, he’s a very positive person who’s already looking ahead.”
Schlotterbeck, who plays for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, was to stay with the Germany squad for the rest of the World Cup.
“It’s a great sign that he’s staying with the squad for now, as he has an impact off the field as well,” Nagelsmann said. “Despite his absence, we’re still very well-equipped at center-back for the World Cup with Jonathan Tah, Antonio Rüdiger, Waldemar Anton, and Malick Thiaw.”

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh believes the football should not hit the ground very often during unpadded, non-contact spring practices.
Harbaugh, then, could not have been thrilled with the offensive performance he saw on Monday.
There were a couple of highlight plays. A long, contested-catch touchdown by rookie Malachi Fields, drafted to make those kinds of plays, was encouraging. A red zone touchdown pass from Jaxson Dart to Isaiah Hodgins, who made a contested grab at the goal line, was pretty. There was a nice deep shot from Jameis Winston to Jalin Hyatt.
In general, though, the passing attack might be described as uninspiring.
Dart threw a bad interception. He broke the pocket to his right and launched a ball for Darnell Mooney down the middle. The ball was late, short, and easily picked off by Paulson Adebo.

Idris Elba has officially joined Britain’s most distinguished ranks after being knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, becoming Sir Idris Elba in a ceremony that recognised a body of work extending well beyond film and television.
The honour, awarded as part of the 2026 New Year Honours list, acknowledged his contributions to youth empowerment and community support, particularly through initiatives tackling inequality and youth violence.
For the occasion, Idris wore a look from his own label, Eve of Winston, proving that formal dress codes do not have to come at the expense of personality. At first glance, the outfit respected the traditions of royal ceremonial dressing through the classic black tailcoat, white shirt and bow tie. But a closer look revealed the distinctive geometric panel detailing across the waistcoat, which introduced a harness-inspired element that set the ensemble apart from standard morning or court dress.
The interplay between traditional tailoring techniques and more contemporary detailing felt entirely appropriate for someone who has built a career on challenging expectations. The look honoured the occasion while still carrying a signature point of view.
Standing beside him was his wife, Sabrina Elba, who wore a Stella McCartney Fall 2026 look that you will instantly recognise.
