Sept 2 (Reuters) - Alphabet's Google escaped a breakup of its advertising technology business on Wednesday, when a judge in Virginia rejected U.S. antitrust enforcers' bid to force a sale of Google's online advertising exchange.
While the ad exchange is a small part of Google's business, the ruling is the second powerful symbolic victory against the U.S. Department of Justice in its efforts to force Google to sell ******* ets to address illegal monopolies.
U.S. Judge Leonie Brinkema in Alexandria, Virginia, declined to make Google sell AdX, where publishers pay Google a 20% fee to sell ads in auctions that happen instantly when users load websites. She accepted most of the parties' proposed behavioral remedies.
The DOJ and a broad coalition of states sued Google in 2023 over its dominance in markets for advertising technology used by online publishers and websites.

Baron Capital, an investment management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter for its "Baron Global Opportunity Fund". The letter can be downloaded here. The fund achieved a strong quarter, gaining 26.7% (Institutional Shares), exceeding a 14.9% gain for the MSCI ACWI Index (the Index), and a 19.8% gain for the MSCI ACWI Growth Index. YTD, the Fund is up 20.6% compared to gains of 11.3% and 10.6% for the benchmarks, respectively. In mid-2026, market patterns show similarities to the previous year, following three years of over 25% gains driven by a healthy economy and AI investments. Elevated geopolitical risks persisted, with a pullback likely. A tariff-related market dip was followed by a recovery, reflecting a growing market indifference to geopolitical uncertainties. Similarly, airstrikes against Iran and subsequent tension led to an initial market sell-off, yet a lull in hostilities led to a strong market rally. The Fund noted significant outperformance, credited to stock selection and sector allocation, with 1,173bps of overall outperformance relative to the Index. It excelled in developed markets while underperforming in emerging markets, particularly due to a spectacular rise in Korea. The Fund remains optimistic about its investments and seeks attractive opportunities. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Baron Global Opportunity Fund highlighted Wix.com Ltd. (NASDAQ:WIX). Wix.com Ltd. (NASDAQ:WIX), a cloud-based web development platform for registered users and creators, detracted from the fund's performance this quarter. On September 1, 2026, Wix.com Ltd. (NASDAQ:WIX) closed at $88.38 per share. Over the past month, Wix.com Ltd. (NASDAQ:WIX) returned 40.93%, and its shares are down 37.09% over the past year. Wix.com Ltd. (NASDAQ:WIX) has a market capitalization of $3.7 billion.
Baron Global Opportunity Fund stated the following regarding Wix.com Ltd. (NASDAQ:WIX) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Shares of Wix.com Ltd. (NASDAQ:WIX), a cloud-based platform for building and managing websites and online businesses, declined 51.0% during the second quarter. The stock came under pressure as growth in the company's core business decelerated, with bookings and new user cohorts softening relative to prior quarters. While the newer AI-driven offering (Base 44) continued to grow, it was not enough to offset slowing momentum in the established core business, raising questions about the durability of the overall growth algorithm. We had valued Wix for its combination of durable subscription revenue, expanding free cash flow, and disciplined capital returns, but the deceleration in the core business undermined a central pillar of our thesis. We have therefore exited the position during the quarter, redeploying capital toward opportunities with clearer growth trajectories."

Sept. 3 (UPI) -- An investigation by The Athletic determined that former reporter Dianna Russini violated newsroom standards through her relationship with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel, the outlet said Thursday.
The Athletic published the findings of the nearly five-month investigation under the headline: "Standards review of Dianna Russini's coverage for The Athletic."
Russini resigned from The New York Times Co.-owned outlet and was released from her contract April 14. The former senior insider for the NFL had taken the job role in August 2023.
The investigation, conducted by The Athletic's editorial director for standards and editorial quality Mike Semel, included a review of 903 stories and 77 videos published on the outlet's website.
It also included an examination of 204 episodes of the Scoop City podcast, which Russini co-hosted, and additional off-platform appearances she made while representing The Athletic.

Just before the transfer window closed, Bayern Munich academy players Luis Schäfer and Nana Gibson Adu moved on to pastures anew.
Bayern's official website confirmed Schäfer's departure. The center back came off of a fairly good 2025/26 season, in which he captained the U-19s and subsequently moved up to the U-23s. Filip Pavic's rising star, however, saw him relegated to a distant bench option for the Bavarians' second team and, after starting in the first match of the season, he has not gotten a minute in the 4 games since. One can presume he left for partner club SpVgg Unterhaching to get more game time, which puts an end to his 9 years at the FC Bayern Campus. Good luck in your future endeavors, Schäfer!
Meanwhile, Nana Gibson Adu's time at Bayern was much shorter. In fact, the striker came from Unterhaching at the start of their partnership with Bayern. He was seen as a huge talent and had already played in the 3. Liga at the tender age of 16. Unfortunately, Gibson Adu committed several disciplinary infractions and never really developed at Bayern. In 2025, a loan to Austrian club SCR Altach went through on deadline day but he had to return just two weeks later after he was denied a playing permit by UEFA. Bayern wanted nothing more to do with him, though, and banished him out on loan back to Unterhaching as soon as November that same year.
Now, iMiaSanMia_GER captures the news that he has permanently left Munich to go to fourth division side Greifswalder FC for a two year deal with an option for another year. Good luck, Gibson Adu.

Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman was arrested in June after allegedly breaking the windshield and windows of a car with his child and the child's mother inside, but he was not placed on paid leave by the NFL ahead of the cut to 53 players last weekend.
That leaves Bateman available to the Ravens as the league's investigation into the matter plays out. On Wednesday, Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta said that he doesn't know the timeline for that process.
"It's obviously something that we're very disappointed about that we have to deal with these kind of things," DeCosta said, via the team's website. "We knew about it right away. We contacted the league right away. The league has been doing an investigation, as well I suppose the authorities. In these matters we just kind of sit back and wait for the league and the authorities to tell us what's going on. I have no indication how long that's going to take."
Bateman is coming off of a disappointing 2025 season and the team was banking on a rebound before news of the arrest came to light. If he's not going to be around to provide it, the Ravens will need one or more of their other receivers to step up quickly as a complement to Zay Flowers in the offense.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have relocated their two children to the UK for an "extended stay" while choosing to retain their stateside residence, an impressive $29 million estate in the star-studded enclave of Montecito. A fresh property has hit the market, and it's just a few minutes' drive from the Sussexes' private abode.
The property has been highlighted by Montecito Journal, as it reported on the growing number of residences that have been listed for sale in the past month.
The home sits at 802 West Park Lane and is on the market for a dazzling $11,350,000. It's a unique one-floored property with standout features like a pool and spa. Not to mention the guest suites and sweeping sea views.

The website explains it also has "a formal gated entrance and secondary gated access," proving that security is of utmost importance for the types of clients who would settle here.

When the 2025-26 Spurs season tipped off last fall, ***** ody knew who the Jackals were. But that all changed over the following months as the Victor Wembanyama-founded fan section went viral for their over-the-top energy, hilarious signs and memorable moments. This season will be no different, except for the fact that everyone knows who they are - and everyone wants in.
But not everyone will be allowed in the Frost Bank Center's sections 114 and 115 for the 2026-27 season, the Jackals said on social media. Auditions for the upcoming season, which will take place on September 19 and add 100 members, require an 18+ age limit. The sign-up form on the Spurs website requires Jackal hopefuls to check a box affirming they are 18 or older before they can RSVP for auditions.
One social media user asked the fan section on X what was behind the decision to "raise the age limit and force kids out of the program? Just don't quite understand that."
"It was a tough choice for sure, we love our kid Jackals, but as the Jackals have and will continue to grow, the atmosphere will become more intense, with constant standing, chanting, and coordinated movement and support," the fan club explained in a post on X. "After evaluating the past season, we feel an 18+ environment is the best fit for the direction of the section."
Not everyone seems to be happy with that change. Paul Salazar, who was an inaugural Jackal along with his son, said on Instagram that he felt "that PJ was one of the Best Jackals that showed up every night and gave it his all! never complaining about standing not one time!"

Costco did not even sell merchandise on its website until 1998, and in those days, the selection was very limited.
Sure, Costco Travel lived there, but the website was more about advertising ancillary services such as TurboTax access than about selling anything to members.
In recent years, however, Costco has offered a greatly expanded selection, and it allows members to use Instacart and Shipt to order select items directly from its warehouses.
It had also been building on that with its digital-only program, Costco Next, which lets members access items the warehouse club does not stock. It's not a new service; it has technically been around since 2017. But Costco does not promote the offering, and it's something I, and many other members, did not know about.
Now, that service has been shut down with no notice.

Leading U.S. medical groups are urging people to get updated flu and COVID-19 vaccinations this fall, banding together Wednesday to issue shot guidelines — and highlight the science behind them — saying they hope to ease confusion caused by the Trump administration's changing advice.
Flu vaccinations are beginning and COVID-19 shots are starting to arrive after the Food and Drug Administration approved this year's updated versions last week. Winter also brings another vaccine-preventable risk called RSV. Exactly who should get one or all of these vaccines, and when?
That advice usually comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, with help from its independent advisers. But despite no new scientific evidence, Trump health officials last year began pulling back on some longstanding recommendations for fall virus protection and routine children's vaccinations. And that advisory panel, which influences state and insurance vaccine policies, is caught in a court battle. The CDC didn't respond to questions about any new fall guidance but suggested on its website that doctors follow last year's flu recommendations.
Doctors' groups are filling the gap: the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America each released vaccination guidelines for their patient populations.
"There's been a lot of confusion and chaos regarding vaccine recommendations," said Dr. Sandra Fryhofer, of the American Medical **** ociation.

Year to date, it's up 11.7%, surpassing its benchmarks. The first half of 2026 mirrored the previous year, with a 10.4% drawdown in Q1 due to geopolitical tensions, similar to last year's tariff-related decline. However, the fund rebounded with a 24.6% gain in Q2 after a cease-fire and declining oil prices. Stock selection drove the outperformance, contributing 940bps, while sector allocation detracted 152bps. In a volatile market, the firm remains focused on identifying high-quality, competitively advantaged companies and is optimistic about long-term prospects, investing when prices align with intrinsic values. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Baron Fifth Avenue Growth Fund highlighted Shopify Inc. (NASDAQ:SHOP). Shopify Inc. (NASDAQ:SHOP), a Canada-based e-commerce technology company that provides a cloud-based platform for individuals and companies to create and manage their operations, detracted from performance in the quarter. On August 31, 2026, Shopify Inc. (NASDAQ:SHOP) closed at $147.37 per share. Over the past month, Shopify Inc. (NASDAQ:SHOP) returned 19.52%, but its shares are up 5.99% over the past year. Shopify Inc. (NASDAQ:SHOP) has a market capitalization of $189.59 billion, and its stock has traded within a 52-week range of $94.00 to $182.19.
Baron Fifth Avenue Growth Fund stated the following regarding Shopify Inc. (NASDAQ:SHOP) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Shopify Inc. (NASDAQ:SHOP), a leading global commerce platform serving merchants across online and offline channels, detracted from performance in the second quarter with the stock down 3.7%. The decline was driven by multiple compression (its P/E was down 8.5%11) rather than any deterioration in the underlying business or fundamental outlook. Shopify continued to post healthy growth in gross merchandise volume and revenue, which were up 30% and 32% year-on-year, respectively. Instead, the pressure reflected investor concerns about the company's long-term positioning in a future state of e-commerce that may rely more heavily on AI-driven applications than traditional websites. We view those concerns as misplaced and see Shopify as an AI winner. Two decades of proprietary data across millions of merchants provide Shopify with a strong foundation for AI tools that improve merchant outcomes. Recent product releases also embed the platform more deeply within the emerging agentic commerce ecosystem while creating new monetization opportunities. We continue to believe that Shopify is the category-defining platform for modern commerce, benefiting from durable secular growth

Anne Hathaway became the target of MAGA's anger on Tuesday after an anti-abortion website dredged up her old comments on reproductive rights.
Hathaway, in a 2022 appearance on "The View" after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, underscored the importance of a young woman's "reproductive destiny" before remarking on her "own personal experience with abortion."
Buzz: Anne Hathaway Reveals She And Husband Adam Shulman Are Expecting Baby No. 3
"I don't think we talk about this enough; abortion can be another word for mercy," said Hathaway, who, days after SCOTUS' decision, used the anniversary of "The Devil Wears Prada" to point out that the film's young female characters built their lives and careers in a country that honored their reproductive rights.
She later continued, "We know that no two pregnancies are alike and it follows that no two lives are alike, that follows that no two conceptions are alike. So how can we have a law — how can we have a point of view on this that says we must treat everything the same?"

In a much-anticipated decision, the Las Vegas Raiders named Kirk Cousins their starting quarterback for Week 1.
Raiders coach Klint Kubiak announced the news Wednesday, Sept. 2.
"He played really good football," Kubiak said, via the team's official website. "I'm really happy with all three of our quarterbacks. Kirk's had a really good offseason, very good camp and he's earned it."
Cousins will start the Raiders' season opener against the Miami Dolphins in Las Vegas.
"Where I've seen him grow is in his leadership and his command," Kubiak said of Cousins.

Barcelona had no doubts regarding signing Jesse Bisiwu this summer, as the board and management ratified him as a top talent who is yet to erupt.
The club have been following the Belgian starlet for a long time now, and decided that it is best to bring him in immediately and mould him to their liking. Deco, in particular, was very keen on recruiting him.
Since arriving, Bisiwu has exceeded expectations as he scored twice in pre-season against Basel for Hansi Flick's side and then went on to score for the Barça Atletic team against Reus FC as well.
Bureaucratic issues have prevented Bisiwu from playing for the first team so far, and Barcelona have decided to keep the player on a subsidiary team registration for this season before handing him a merit-based promotion.

Costco did not even sell merchandise on its website until 1998, and, in those days, the selection was very limited.
Sure, Costco Travel lived there, but the website was more about advertising ancillary services, like TurboTax access than selling anything to members
In recent years, however, Costco has a greatly expanded selection, and it allows members to use Instacart and Shipt to order select items directly from its warehouses.

Nvidia has placed a large financial bet on the lasers that connect AI systems. On March 2, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) invested $2 billion in Coherent Corp. (NYSE:COHR) common stock and entered a nonexclusive multiyear strategic arrangement covering optics development, purchase commitments, and access to manufacturing capacity. Coherent's August filing keeps attention on the capital required to meet that opportunity. The deal suggests bandwidth, not raw compute alone, may determine how quickly next-generation data centers scale.
Photo from Coherent website
NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) needs faster and more power-efficient connections as clusters grow to enormous numbers of accelerators. Strategic access to lasers and optical components can reduce supply risk and help Nvidia coordinate networking with its computing roadmap. The bull case is that Nvidia secures a critical input before demand peaks. The bear case is that purchase commitments could become less attractive if technologies shift or capacity expands faster than customers need.
Coherent Corp. (NYSE:COHR) gains capital, demand visibility, and validation from the AI industry's most influential platform company. Its lasers, transceivers, and materials can participate as data movement consumes a larger share of system power and cost. Yet scaling production requires capital expenditures and working capital well before all revenue is recognized. Customer concentration, manufacturing yields, pricing negotiations, and technology transitions can determine whether volume growth becomes attractive free cash flow.
The nonexclusive structure is important here. Nvidia can support capacity without surrendering alternative suppliers, while Coherent can sell beyond Nvidia. That makes the arrangement more resilient than an acquisition, but it also limits exclusivity as a competitive moat. The strongest thesis is not that one partner controls optics. It is that AI architectures need substantially more optical content, allowing both partners to benefit if execution holds.

Brookfield and Bloom Energy have dramatically enlarged their wager on data-center electricity. On June 30, Brookfield **** et Management Ltd. (NYSE:BAM) and Bloom Energy Corporation (NYSE:BE) expanded an AI infrastructure framework from $5 billion to as much as $25 billion. Brookfield can finance eligible deployments through its investment vehicles, while Bloom can supply fuel-cell systems that generate power near the customer. The arrangement attacks a genuine bottleneck, but its impressive ceiling is not the same thing as committed revenue.

Bloom Energy Corporation (NYSE:BE) offers speed. Its systems can be installed on-site, reducing dependence on slow transmission projects and helping data centers obtain reliable power sooner. If AI demand keeps outrunning the grid, the company can turn its manufacturing platform into a central infrastructure solution. The bear case is execution at unprecedented scale. Equipment costs, fuel availability, service obligations, and project-specific economics will determine whether deployments create durable margins rather than merely large order headlines.
Brookfield **** et Management Ltd. (NYSE:BAM) brings capital formation and **** et expertise. It can choose projects, structure financing, and earn fees without manufacturing the equipment itself. A $25 billion framework expands the universe of potential **** ets and gives Brookfield access to long-lived infrastructure demand. However, capital is deployed only when projects meet contracts and underwriting criteria. Brookfield still bears financing, construction, counterparty, and **** et-performance risks through participating vehicles.
The partnership works because each side absorbs a different part of the problem. Bloom supplies technology and accepts manufacturing and performance risk. Brookfield organizes capital and accepts underwriting risk. Customers must still sign viable contracts. Investors should therefore resist adding the framework ceiling to either company's backlog. The opportunity becomes valuable one approved project at a time, with disciplined underwriting and execution.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI has seized more than $560,000 in cryptocurrency donations intended for Hamas, the Justice Department said Tuesday in announcing a disruption of financing for the militant group.
In addition to seizing cryptocurrency meant to support Hamas' military wing, the department said that it had taken control of website domains and communication platforms used for fundraising and recruitment, and had obtained information about thousands of people who had contacted Hamas with a goal of giving money to the group.
"My message to Hamas is clear: your networks are not secure, your crypto is vulnerable, and we will not stop until your ability to wage war is defeated," Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, said in a video statement announcing the operation.
According to FBI affidavits filed in connection with the seizures, Hamas began testing virtual currency fundraising in or around early 2019 through its Qassam Brigades, or military wing, and solicited donations on its Telegram channel and also used direct online fundraising. Hamas officials bragged that the currency would be untraceable and their websites offered instructions for how to make anonymous donations, the affidavits say.
A major investigative break arrived last year when FBI officials identified a financing network soliciting donations to the Qassam Brigades via virtual currency and a confidential source located in the United States alerted law enforcement to a Telegram post asking for contributions to an email address **** ociated with Hamas.

Guns and ammunition retailers have faced financial distress, leading to store closings and bankruptcy filings as sales have fallen significantly over the last two years.
Industry experts believe some of the decline in sales might have resulted from buyers delaying purchases to take advantage of the reduction in the National Firearms Act tax from $200 to $0 beginning Jan. 1, 2026, the National Rifle **** ociation's American Rifleman reported. The decline of sales, however, has continued in 2026.
Financial issues had led firearms and ammunition retailer White Oak Armory LLC to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to reorganize its business, owing a disputed tax debt to the Tennessee Department of Revenue.
White Oak Armory filed its petition in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee on Aug. 24, listing $500,000 to $1 million in **** ets and liabilities. The petition did not reveal whether the company's sales had declined, and the debtor did not give a specific reason for filing for bankruptcy in its petition.
The retailer was not immediately available for comment. The firearms dealer's website and telephone were still operating on Aug. 30.

Notts County have signed defender Rosaire Longelo from Salford City on a three-year deal.
The 26-year-old arrives at Meadow Lane for an undisclosed fee after an 18-month spell with the Ammies.
Longelo started his career at West Ham before stints with Accrington Stanley and Swindon Town. He joined Salford in January 2025, making 63 appearances for the club.
"Rosaire is an attack-minded wide player with plenty of pace, trickery and dribbling ability," County's director of football, Richard Montague, told the club's website.
"He gives us real depth in the wing-back position and also brings prior League One experience from his time with Accrington. We've been keen to sign Rosaire for a while now so we're delighted to now have him on board."

La Liga giants Barcelona have on Tuesday announced the departure of another highly-regarded young member of the club's reserve team ranks.
This comes amid confirmation of Toni Fernández taking his talents to Italy, to link up with Serie A outfit Venezia.
18-year-old Toni's name had emerged as a prominent one in the transfer chatter surrounding Barcelona in the buildup to deadline day. After the starlet was forced to face up to his first-team path being yet further blocked by the signings of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, Toni and his entourage began seeking out the best landing spot to further his development.
From here, the aforementioned Venezia entered the scene, promising the versatile attacker a prominent place in their senior setup this coming season.
And such promises evidently proved enough to convince Toni of the merits of a move to the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo. As per a statement across Barcelona's website and social media platforms on Tuesday evening:

Olympique de Marseille and Crystal Palace are reported to have reopened negotiations regarding a potential transfer of Quinten Timber (25), according to information from L'Équipe.
Believing that the depth and quality of their midfield is sufficient, OM's management – who continue to seek funds to meet the financial constraints imposed by the National Directorate for Financial Control (DNCG) – are said to have opened the door to the departure of the Dutchman.
Talks regarding a transfer worth over €18m are reportedly underway, alongside those being conducted by the Eagles in an attempt to finalise the deal for Malick Fofana (21).
Having joined OM from Feyenoord for €4.5m last winter, Timber has made 17 appearances in the white and blue since his arrival.
An international, the Utrecht-born player has earned 13 caps (one goal) for the Netherlands. Under contract with Marseille until 2030, he is valued at around €25m by the specialist website Transfermarkt.
