Iran is increasingly using cryptocurrencies to settle cross-border trade as the country faces intensifying U.S. sanctions and a naval blockade, the Financial Times reported on Sep. 8.
A cryptocurrency is a digital currency that runs on a blockchain, a shared public ledger, allowing money to move across borders without passing through the traditional banking system.
The country's central bank has in recent months quietly eased its strict foreign currency controls, encouraging businesses to bring funds back into the country through whatever channels are available, including crypto exchanges that handle Tether's USDT and Bitcoin (BTC), citing regime insiders, business executives and **** ysts, the report said.
Tether's USDT is a stablecoin, a type of cryptocurrency designed to hold a steady value against the U.S. dollar, making it useful for trade settlements.
Bitcoin is the world's first and largest decentralized cryptocurrency which has seen a wild appreciation in its value since its launch in 2009.

KiiChain has integrated TRON (CRYPTO: $TRX) into its on-chain foreign exchange platform, adding support for 24/7 stablecoin payments, swaps and treasury operations across a network that carries more than $90 billion in circulating USDT (CRYPTO: $USDT).
The KiiChain App will support deposits, swaps and yield vaults for TRON-based **** ets, including USDT issued under the TRC20 standard. The companies said the connection is designed to give users and businesses continuous access to foreign exchange liquidity without relying on traditional banking hours.
KiiChain already serves more than 200 enterprise clients and 360,000 registered users. TRON DAO spokesperson Sam Elfarra said more than $500 million in on-chain FX transaction volume is already flowing through KiiChain on TRON, giving the integration an operating base beyond a standard network expansion.

Crypto card spending hit a monthly record, with stablecoin-funded purchases climbing to $1.03 billion, or $1.04 billion in supplementary reporting based on PaymentsScan data. PaymentsScan, an on-chain ******* ytics platform that tracks card activity across dozens of issuers, reported that the figure was up 16% from June and nearly 200% from a year earlier.
More than 10 million individual purchases were logged in July alone, according to PaymentsScan data cited on X by The Kobeissi Letter. Just three years ago, PaymentsScan's tracked monthly volume was roughly $1 million. The climb from $382 million in August 2025 to more than $1 billion in July 2026 marks sustained growth in the platform's tracked data.
PaymentsScan tracks card issuers across Ethereum, Solana, Base, Tron and Polygon, spanning providers including RedotPay, KAST, Gnosis Pay, Wirex and Rain-issued cards.
A supplementary report from Bitcoin World, put July spending at $1.04 billion. The report said USDT and USDC were the dominant stablecoins used for such payments, while noting that an exact breakdown by network was not disclosed. The figures point to digital dollars as a major funding source for crypto-card purchases.
Stablecoin cards can offer near-instant settlement and access for users without a local bank account. As more regional issuers launch and stablecoins continue settling faster than multi-day card networks, PaymentsScan's tracked monthly volume has continued to rise.

Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN) CEO Brian Armstrong recently claimed crypto "doesn't get enough credit for the financial access it's already unlocked for the world" in a post on X. Armstrong noted that stablecoins allowed "anyone, anywhere" to access a low-inflation currency and send it "24/7 for a fraction of a cent", that decentralized finance (DeFi) applications gave "anyone access to credit" and unbanked individuals access to financial services, and that tokenized stocks would expose four billion "unbrokered people" to the U.S. stock market.
Armstrong's bullish take isn't surprising, since Coinbase is one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges. If you agree with Armstrong's perspective, then it might be a good time to review how those catalysts could boost your crypto portfolio's long-term returns.

The market's largest stablecoins, Tether (CRYPTO: USDT) and USD Coin (CRYPTO: USDC), are pegged to the U.S. dollar. Tether is more widely used overseas, while USD Coin -- which is only minted by Circle (NYSE: CRCL) -- is the leading stablecoin in the U.S. market.
Stablecoins can be deposited into third-party lending markets, automated market makers, and liquidity pools to earn higher yields than traditional dollar-based savings accounts. However, some of those platforms are much riskier than FDIC-backed banking accounts.

Russia's central bank has proposed allowing Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC), Ethereum (CRYPTO: $ETH), and Tether (CRYPTO: $USDT) to be traded on official Russian exchanges.
The Bank of Russia published the draft rules on Tuesday. The move follows legislation signed by President Vladimir Putin that formally legalized cryptocurrency trading in the country.
Under the proposed framework, both retail and professional investors would have to pass a test before they can trade Bitcoin, Ether or Tether from September 1. Retail investors make up around 98% of Russia's crypto market participants, according to the central bank.

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: $TSLA) kept its Bitcoin treasury unchanged at 11,509 BTC in the second quarter, extending a holding pattern that has now lasted nearly four years.
The electric vehicle maker recorded a $112 million after-tax loss on its digital ******* et holdings as Bitcoin fell about 14% during the quarter. The cryptocurrency declined from roughly $83,000 at the end of March to around $58,000 by June 30 before recovering above $65,000 in July.

Ramp has made stablecoin accounts and payments available to all its customers, giving businesses one platform to hold, send, and receive both regular dollars and stablecoins like USDC and USDT.
Until now, most finance teams treated stablecoin payments as a separate hassle, requiring a different wallet, no approval controls, and hours of manual reconciliation.
One Ramp beta customer found that stablecoin payments made up just 10% of vendor payments but consumed half of their accounts payable team's time.
Related: Solana's tokenized ******* et volume hits $5.8 billion in a record quarter
Ramp's approach folds stablecoins directly into the same system businesses already use for cards, bills, and accounting, so a payment settling in USDC follows the same approval chain as one settling in dollars.

Jack Mallers has stepped down as CEO of Twenty One Capital, and investors didn't take it well.
Shares of the Bitcoin treasury company—a publicly traded firm that holds Bitcoin on its balance sheet, letting regular investors gain exposure to the cryptocurrency without buying it directly—dropped nearly 15% on Tuesday.
Mallers co-founded Twenty One alongside Tether—the issuer of USDT, the world's most widely used dollar-pegged stablecoin (a digital token that holds a fixed value of one dollar and functions as the backbone of crypto trading)—and listed the company on the New York Stock Exchange in December 2025 through a ******* merger. A ******* , or special purpose acquisition company, is a blank check shell firm created specifically to take other companies public faster than a traditional IPO allows.
Twenty One still holds 43,514 BTC. At current prices, that balance sheet is worth more than $4 billion, ranking it second among all public companies for Bitcoin holdings, just behind Michael Saylor's Strategy. Strategy is the company that effectively pioneered the corporate Bitcoin treasury playbook in 2020—borrowing money to buy Bitcoin at scale and daring anyone to tell them it was a bad idea.
Mallers' exit comes packaged with worse news. Tether's plan to merge three Bitcoin businesses into a single publicly traded entity has officially collapsed, per Bloomberg. The proposed combination would have united Twenty One's treasury operations, Strike's Bitcoin payments and lending platform (which operates in more than 100 countries), and Elektron Energy's mining infrastructure under one publicly listed company.

Canadian singer Drake has wagered $1.5 million USDT on Argentina to beat Spain in regulation time at Sunday's World Cup final. A win would pay the rapper $5,175,000.
He placed the bet through the crypto gambling platform Stake and announced it on Instagram. In contrast, Spain enters the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium as the favorite.
Soccer fans have already invoked the Drake Curse, the belief that teams he backs publicly falter at the worst moment. A similar regulation-time bet cost Drake his last World Cup payout, even though Argentina won it in extra time. The wager only pays out if Argentina wins within 90 minutes, excluding extra time and penalties.
The rapper's crypto ties run deeper than betting slips. He referenced Bitcoin (BTC) on his new Iceman album this year, calling himself a "crypto big-timer." This bet, however, relies entirely on a stablecoin rather than a volatile token.
Kalshi's regulation-time market prices Spain's win probability at 43%, compared with 28% for Argentina and 32% for a tie. Meanwhile, that gap mirrors how World Cup betting markets have leaned toward Europe throughout the knockout rounds. The Kalshi contract for Sunday's World Cup game had already logged more than $2.8 million in trading volume.

Dogecoin (DOGE) has crashed roughly 50% over the past year, and renewed US–Iran attacks threaten to deepen the pain as oil-driven inflation fears revive Federal Reserve rate-hike bets.
Dogecoin is showing signs of a bearish continuation on its four-hour chart after failing to sustain its early-July rebound.
The DOGE/USDT chart shows the memecoin forming an inverse cup-and-handle pattern. The setup typically develops when price forms a rounded top, returns to horizontal support, and then stages a weak recovery—the "handle"—before potentially breaking lower.
DOGE's rounded top formed after its rebound from roughly $0.071 toward $0.079. The token has since returned to the $0.071–$0.072 support area and is now attempting a minor bounce near $0.073.
A decisive break below the pattern's neckline near $0.071 could confirm the bearish setup. The pattern's measured downside target sits near $0.063, or more than 10% below current prices.

In mid-June, the Federal Reserve proposed new rules for stablecoins. The proposal calls for stablecoin issuers to verify customer identities before opening new accounts or redeeming tokens, effectively applying bank-style anti-money laundering standards to stablecoins.
At first glance, this seems like bad news for Circle (NYSE: CRCL), the issuer of the USD Coin (CRYPTO: USDC) stablecoin. However, those tighter restrictions could actually strengthen USD Coin and make Circle a more compelling investment.

Circle promotes USD Coin as a tightly regulated, US-centric stablecoin. It's also firmly backed by U.S. dollars and Treasuries. Its main competitor, Tether (CRYPTO: USDT), is issued by Hong Kong-based iFinex and backed by an opaque mix of cash, commercial paper, and other ***** ets. While Tether dominates the overseas market, USD Coin leads the U.S. market.
Circle's regulatory compliance makes USD Coin a trustworthy alternative to U.S. dollars for retail and institutional investors. But in many overseas markets, where investors consider stablecoins a hedge against inflation and currency devaluation, Tether's immunity from U.S. regulations -- along with its higher global liquidity -- makes it a better choice than USD Coin.
