Generating $1,000 a month in dividends is a simple process but it usually requires a substantial capital outlay. The Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (NYSEMKT: SCHD) is perhaps the best dividend ETF for accomplishing this. Not only does it offer a much-above-average yield, but it's also backed by a portfolio of durable, high-quality companies.
That's exactly what you want in your portfolio, so let's run through the path for how to get there.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
The Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF tracks the Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index. It starts with a universe of U.S. equities that have paid dividends for at least 10 consecutive years. From there, it examines the stock's dividend growth rate, yield, and several fundamental metrics, including return on equity (ROE) and cash flow-to-debt ratio. The 100 stocks with the best combination of these factors make the cut for the portfolio.
It's the combination of dividend yield and dividend quality that makes this fund so effective. The screens act as cross-checks on each other, so investors can get the best of both worlds. Choosing stocks based solely on yield can leave investors vulnerable to yield traps or potential dividend cuts. The quality screen here helps steer clear of that and gives people a sustainable high yield along with the quality portfolio.

For the better part of the last four years, it's been all systems go for the stock market. Since the 2022 bear market bottomed, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES:^DJI) has rallied 84%, while the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) and growth-focused Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) have more than doubled.
The artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure build-out has been the stock market's unmistakable catalyst. The otherworldly amount of capital being spent on data center infrastructure is almost single-handedly propelling equities higher.
Continue »

Burry is mitigating near-term tax selling in underperforming holdings.
The investor foresees an early end to the artificial intelligence boom, positioning for a 2000–2003 style value equity revival.
Significant capital is being directed into discounted Chinese equities like BYD, while maintaining a cautious stance on Alibaba amidst its infrastructure spending.
Renowned value investor Michael Burry outlined his fourth-quarter portfolio maneuvers in an update on his Cassandra Unchained Substack platform on Monday, revealing how he is positioning around tax-loss harvesting headwinds while building long-term exposure to deeply discounted sectors.
Burry noted that the final quarter routinely brings heightened selling pressure on underperforming equities as investors sell underperforming ***** ets at a loss to offset capital gains.

Definium Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:DFTX) has now delivered a third consecutive positive Phase 3 readout for its LSD-based medication, the second in generalized anxiety disorder. The result puts the company on a viable route toward a potential FDA approval of an LSD-based treatment for generalized anxiety disorder, and considering how closely psychedelic stocks have historically traded on each other's data, the reading carries far more weight than Definium's own ticker.
On September 14, Definium Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:DFTX) announced that its drug DT120, an orally disintegrating tablet formulation of LSD, was successful in Panorama, the company's second late-stage anxiety trial. Over 12 weeks, patients who received a 100-microgram dose experienced a 9.8-point decline on the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, a typical clinical measure, compared to a 4.7-point drop with placebo.
The resulting 5.1-point placebo-adjusted improvement is similar to what the company's first pivotal anxiety trial, Voyage, showed back in August: an 11.6-point improvement versus 6.2 for placebo, a 5.4-point separation that Jefferies called one of the strongest placebo-adjusted efficacy results ever seen in generalized anxiety disorder, and that Stifel simply described as "a clean win."
Psychedelic equities have a history of trading as a group rather than as individual names, and this tendency applies both ways. In February 2026, when Compass Pathways, the sector's other clinical leader developing a psilocybin-based drug for treatment-resistant depression, reported positive late-stage data, shares of Definium Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:DFTX), Atai Beckley, GH Research, and Helus Pharma all rose, some by double digits.
That correlation is significant here because Definium's win is an independent validation of the broader therapeutic argument on which Compass and others are betting: a single dose of a classic psychedelic, administered in a controlled clinical setting, can produce lasting improvements in serious mental health conditions via pathways different from existing SSRIs and other standard-of-care drugs.

As a Californian, I can say this: If there are two industries that residents of the Golden State really don't like, it's insurance providers and utilities.
Interestingly, with the state considering wildfire reform legislation, those industries are at odds with one another. That's material for investors considering stocks such as PG&E (NYSE: PCG). The company known to California customers as Pacific Gas & Electric is one of the four major investor-owned utilities in the state, and due to the state having some of the highest utility rates in the U.S., PG&E and friends don't have a lot of fans in the state.
Continue »
Of course, investing isn't a popularity contest. There are plenty of stocks that are often vilified in the court of public opinion that also deliver compelling returns. This year, oil equities certainly check that box. But the biggest risk to prospective PG&E investors isn't how Californians feel about the utility. It's the goings-on in Sacramento.
For those who are new to utility stocks, the primary reasons investors have embraced this sector over the years are above-average dividend yields, below-average risk profiles, and, more recently, inroads to the artificial intelligence (AI) trade.

Markel mirrors Berkshire's three-engine model of insurance, equities, and operating businesses, with $18.84 billion in float and $429.5 million in 2025 buybacks, but its $22 billion market cap makes it a fundamentally different species.
Markel's combined ratio improved to 94.6% in 2025, yet shares are down 17% year to date while trailing Berkshire's 10-year return by 155 percentage points.
Three signals determine the Markel thesis: whether the combined ratio holds in the low 90s, buybacks sustain pace, and Markel Ventures remains inside the group.
Just released. Our **** ysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now, and Berkshire Hathaway didn't make the cut. Enter your email to see the names that beat BRK-B. The report is free. Enter your email and see if any of your stocks made the cut.
Warren Buffett has stepped down as board chair of Berkshire Hathaway, with Greg Abel now running the company. The handoff has revived a question value investors have batted around for a decade: with the Oracle off the field, is Markel Group (NYSE:MKL) the closest thing left to early Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK-B)?

Charles Schwab is holding a neutral stance on equities. The firm favors commodities over stocks and bonds, according to chief investment strategist Liz Ann Sonders.
Sonders made the comments in a recent interview, pushing back on what she called "cookie-cutter" portfolio advice. She said allocation should hinge on each investor's time horizon, risk tolerance, need for income, and overall goals.
"It actually drives me a little crazy when people give a cookie-cutter answer to that," Sonders said. "There's no one ***** et allocation that makes sense right now."

An anonymous trader known only by their wallet address 0x3bca had their $7.19 million short position on the S&P 500 fully liquidated on Hyperliquid as the broader market rebounded on Wednesday. The liquidation was tracked via onchain data on Hypurrscan.
A short position is a trade that profits when an ***** et's price falls. The trader was betting the S&P 500 would decline, and when it moved in the opposite direction, the position was forcibly closed at a loss.
Related: Kevin O'Leary has a warning on Washington's tax plans
Liquidation happens when a leveraged trade moves far enough against the trader that the exchange automatically closes it to prevent further losses. Hyperliquid is a decentralized exchange that lets users trade perpetual contracts, derivatives that track an ***** et's price without an expiration date, on crypto, equities and commodities.
The Hypurrscan data shows the wallet held a total portfolio value of roughly $7.85 million at the time, with exposure to S&P 500, XYZ100, BTC and gold contracts. The transaction history reveals a flurry of activity in the seconds surrounding the liquidation, including multiple "Close Long" orders on Robinhood stock (xyz:HOOD) at $109.48 and fresh "Open Long" positions on BTC at approximately $76,568.

An equal $100,000 split across SGOV, JAAA, and CLOZ generates roughly $465 monthly at a blended 5.6% yield, no dividend stocks required.
CLOZ's 7.35% trailing yield on BBB-B rated CLO tranches drives $204 of the monthly income but carries the portfolio's highest credit risk.
Floating-rate CLO coupons in JAAA and CLOZ keep effective duration near zero, shielding principal from long-term rate swings while outpaying Treasury bills.

Income investors do not have to own dividend stocks to generate a meaningful monthly check. An equal $100,000 split across the iShares 0-3 Month Treasury Bond ETF (NYSEARCA:SGOV), Janus Henderson AAA CLO ETF (NYSEARCA: JAAA), and Eldridge BBB-B CLO ETF (NYSEARCA:CLOZ) currently produces roughly $465 a month based on trailing distribution yields. The portfolio gets there without owning a single dividend stock and with very little traditional interest-rate exposure. Instead, SGOV owns Treasury bills, while JAAA and CLOZ invest in floating-rate collateralized loan obligations. That combination gives income investors three different steps up the risk ladder without requiring a move into equities.

During market uncertainty, cautious investors may feel compelled to sell everything while they wait for the dust to settle. But Ross Gerber believes that, to paraphrase Rudyard Kipling, if you can keep your head when everyone else is losing theirs, you'll reap even bigger rewards.
The Gerber Kawasaki CEO says that while inflation, higher bond yields, oil prices, and Federal Reserve rate hikes can pressure stocks, he does not think investors should abandon equities wholesale. Instead, he advocates for a more defensive approach.
He recommends investors trim holdings with valuations that look stretched relative to their growth, build reserves in cash and short-duration fixed income **** ets, and keep long-term positions in companies that he believes still have strong earnings support, such as Nvidia.
And for investors trying to navigate an environment where corporate earnings remain strong while macroeconomic risks pressure stock valuations, that distinction matters. Gerber's framework is less about calling the market's next move than deciding which risks a portfolio can absorb—and which positions still deserve capital.
Here is a closer look at Gerber's defensive-focused strategy.

SGOV, JPST, and VTIP create a layered cash reserve covering one to five years, shielding equities from forced sales in a bear market.
Drawdowns from 2000 to 2007 and 2008 to 2013 both lasted multiple years, proving one year of T-bills forces equity sales at the worst possible time.
VTIP adjusts principal with CPI and delivers a 2.42% real yield, protecting purchasing power when inflation surprises retirees in years four and five.

You retired into a market that rewards patience and punishes forced sellers. The bucket strategy answers a single question: how much of your spending can you cover without touching stocks when the S&P falls 30%? Guess one year, and a prolonged drawdown forces you to sell equities at the bottom. Guess five, and you drag on returns. The middle path is a laddered cash reserve, and three ETFs do the heavy lifting: iShares 0-3 Month Treasury Bond ETF (NYSEARCA:SGOV), JPMorgan Ultra-Short Income ETF (NYSEARCA:JPST), and Vanguard Short-Term Inflation-Protected Securities ETF (NASDAQ:VTIP).

Shares of Occidental Petroleum Corp (NYSE:OXY) are trading lower Wednesday as energy equities experience broad profit-taking alongside a pullback in crude oil prices.
The weakness in benchmark energy commodities comes as fresh market data indicates a weekly drawdown in U.S. crude inventories, dampening immediate commodity momentum alongside sector-wide risk mitigation ahead of the Federal Reserve's afternoon interest rate decision.
Occidental Petroleum stock is taking a hit today. Why are OXY shares down?
A major catalyst cooling OXY's momentum today is the latest U.S. crude oil inventory report. The Energy Information Administration reported that crude stockpiles fell by just 640,000 barrels for the week ending Sept. 11, missing market expectations for a significantly larger drawdown.
Because a smaller-than-expected inventory draw signals softer overall energy demand, crude prices faced renewed downward pressure, pulling upstream producers like Occidental lower in tandem.

In Q2 2026, the portfolio delivered a strong net return of +30.1% compared to the Russell 2000 Index's +21.5% return and the HFRX Equity Hedge Index's +10.3% return. The long book drove performance, generating a 43.2% gross contribution, while average net exposure remained relatively modest at 47%. U.S. economic growth remained resilient despite inflation concerns, elevated energy prices, and geopolitical uncertainty. Small-cap equities benefited significantly, with Information Technology, Industrials, and Health Care leading gains, while Energy declined as crude prices fell. Year to date, the Composite returned +23.7%, slightly ahead of the Russell 2000's +22.6% and well above the HFRI Equity Hedge Index's +9.7%. Additionally, you can review the Portfolio's top 5 holdings to see its best picks for 2026.

Prosper Stars & Stripes stated the following regarding Universal Display Corporation (NASDAQ:OLED) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"This year's market rally has pressured short returns and narrowed the windows to successfully monetize shorts, as we would expect. Certain themes and short ideas do continue to resonate, however. One theme that has had success is the ongoing pressure caused by the investment boom in AI crowding out spending in other areas. We have shorted Universal Display Corporation (NASDAQ:OLED), Dolby Laboratories (DLB), and Logitech International (LOGI) on this theme. We believe cost pressures on technology components such as DRAM to result in higher prices for consumer electronics. This would have a significant impact on back-to-school and holiday spending, the key periods for these companies' end markets. We expect the forecasts that these companies are providing at this time of the year to prove optimistic, as tech cost inflation is unusual.
