The company's same-store sales grew 3.8% year-over-year on a 3.6% improvement in foot traffic for the three months ending in early August, driving total top-line growth of 5.3%, and marking the second strong quarter in a row following yet-another disappointing year ending in early February.

Since inception, the Fund appreciated 10.61% on an annualized basis, compared with 10.02% for the Benchmark and 14.83% for the Index. Strong stock selection in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, health care equipment, and life sciences tools and services supported the Fund's outperformance, although limited exposure to managed care stocks reduced relative returns. The Fund remains positive on health care due to improving biotechnology funding, strong acquisition activity, recovering managed care margins, and growth from an aging population, chronic disease, medical innovation, and higher health care spending. In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know the best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Baron Health Care Fund highlighted Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISRG). Intuitive Surgical, Inc. Baron Health Care Fund stated the following regarding Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISRG) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:

Concerns were further compounded by the potential impact of Medicaid work requirements expected to take effect in 2027. Despite these headwinds, we believe Intuitive can continue to grow revenue at a mid-teens rate for many years and remain positive on the company's long-term growth outlook."

A finance employee at the global design firm Arup transferred $25.6 million in a deepfake fraud after joining a video call with synthetic versions of senior executives. The faces looked real. The voices sounded real. The instructions were false.
That was not an isolated warning. Starbucks quietly retired an AI inventory system only nine months after deployment after baristas reported that it miscounted products and slowed their work. Deloitte's Australian member firm agreed to partially refund the government for a $290,000 AI-assisted report that included nonexistent academic sources and a fabricated court quotation. Different industries. Different technologies. The same failure: people could not trust the output, the identity, or the system.
Trust is becoming a form of economic infrastructure. Companies that cannot engineer it will move slower, spend more, and lose markets. When trust is strong, capital moves, partnerships form, and companies scale. When it breaks, transactions slow, compliance and insurance costs rise, and leaders retreat from risk.
Trust is not blind faith. It is earned confidence that facts are real, identities are authentic, systems are secure, contracts will be honored, and someone will be accountable when things go wrong. In business terms, trust reduces friction. In strategic terms, it creates speed.
As America marks its 250th anniversary, we should remember that trust was not a side note to the founding. It was the bet. In my first three essays in this Freedom & Enterprise series, I described the Declaration of Independence as America's first founding bet, the system it created as one that let people build free, and the freedom to fail as one of our greatest competitive advantages. Beneath all three is a more fundamental principle: America trusted free people to govern themselves, take risks, honor commitments, and build institutions strong enough to survive disagreement.

Elfyn Evans holds third place at Rally Finland despite rolling his Toyota on Saturday, as Sebastien Ogier was taken to hospital after crashing out of the lead.
Nine-time champion Ogier and co-driver Julien Ingrassia had a big accident on stage 17 - Saturday's penultimate stage - after they ran wide on a fast, right-hand corner and their Toyota crashed into trees.
The stage was stopped and an update from Toyota said both Ogier and Ingrassia got out of the car "unassisted", and were taken to hospital for checks but were "conscious and generally OK".
Sami Pajari, who won his first rally at the previous round in Estonia, inherited first place from Ogier and leads his home event with two stages remaining on Sunday.
The Finnish driver holds an advantage of 46.4 seconds over Toyota team-mate Oliver Solberg, while Evans moved into third place ahead of Hyundai's Adrien Fourmaux after setting the fastest time on Saturday's final stage.

As Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers look to reload their passing attack, all eyes are on marquee addition Mike Evans. While Shanahan's offense has long been hailed as one of the NFL's premier schemes, the turnover in last season's receiving corps left a distinct void on the perimeter.
Last year, San Francisco pieced together a receiver room centered around Jauan Jennings, Kendrick Bourne, Demarcus Robinson, and Ricky Pearsall. While that group offered versatility and grit through a grinding campaign, the offense frequently lacked a true boundary "X" receiver capable of consistently winning pure, unassisted one-on-one battles outside the numbers.
That is precisely where Evans changes the equation.
According to data from Sumner Sports cited by Athlon Sports' Doug Farrar, Evans has been the league's gold standard for isolation efficiency when healthy. Over the past two seasons, Evans generated an Expected Points Added (EPA) per play of +0.379 on isolation targets—the highest mark of any receiver in the NFL with at least 50 such targets. Across 180 isolation routes, he pulled in 328 yards and six touchdowns on 50 targets, boasting a remarkable 62.0% catch rate in true one-on-one scenarios.
For quarterback Brock Purdy, adding a legendary perimeter threat like Evans provides an entirely new dimension. Shanahan's system relies heavily on motion, scheme-created ****** e, and intermediate rhythm throws. But when opposing defenses load the box to stifle the run or drop safety help inside to blanket crossers, Evans becomes the ultimate counterpunch.

After a punishing slide, Intuit's stock has landed on a price floor that has launched major rallies before, forcing investors to decide if history is a guide or a trap.
Intuit (INTU), the company behind TurboTax and QuickBooks, has seen its stock fall back to a familiar place. After a -25% return over the last three months, shares now trade inside a price zone between $279.13 and $308.51. More than a simple number on a chart, this is a level where buyers have forcefully stepped in three separate times before, sparking rallies that produced an average peak gain of 66%. History says this is where the selling stops. The question every investor watching this descent must answer is a simple one: will they show up again this time?
The historical precedent is strong. In May 2020, a defense of this level led to a 22% gain over the next 107 days. A test in September of that year produced a 10.6% bounce in just 28 days. The most dramatic defense came in October 2020, which became the launchpad for a huge 164% climb. The past performance at this level is not subtle, which is why the stock's return to it now creates such a palpable standoff.
The Bull Case Rests On A Powerful Pivot To ***** isted Tax
A floor holds or breaks based on the health of the business arriving at it. Intuit lands on this level with several of its key initiatives firing on all cylinders. Management points to its designated growth engines, specifically "Assisted tax, money, portfolio and mid-market," as "all growing north of 30%." This is not a business standing still. The company is executing a deliberate pivot away from its traditional do-it-yourself tax software and into the much larger, more lucrative ***** isted tax preparation market.

CHICAGO — FreightWaves unveiled the winners of its 2026 AI Excellence in Supply Chain Awards during a ceremony at the Old Post Office in Chicago as part of the FreightWaves Supply Chain AI Symposium on July 15, 2026. The awards recognize companies using artificial intelligence to transform supply chain, transportation and logistics operations.
The competition this year was fierce. FreightWaves received a record 60 nominations, more than double last year's total, reflecting how quickly AI has moved from pilot projects to production systems across the industry. To capture the full picture of that shift, the 2026 awards were split into two categories: AI Solution Providers, honoring the technology companies building AI tools for the industry, and Operational AI Integration, honoring the carriers, brokers, forwarders and shippers deploying AI inside their own operations.
This year's honorees in the AI Solution Providers category are Arkestro, CloneOps.ai, Intelligent Audit, Fixefy, Augment, Eranova, Gather AI, Trimble Autonomous Procurement, Fullbay AI and Samsara. The Operational AI Integration honorees are NFI, Flexport, YMX Logistics, Uber Freight and Atlas Energy Solutions.
Honoring the technology companies building AI tools for the industry
Arkestro earned recognition for its AI-enabled predictive procurement platform, which combines artificial intelligence and game theory to let procurement teams simulate sourcing events before they happen and shape outcomes before suppliers ever submit a quote. Rather than replacing human decision-making, the platform augments it, giving suppliers AI-assisted pricing guidance and real-time feedback on how their offers compare. Customers report an average 18.8% savings on spend and sourcing cycles accelerated by up to 60%. One manufacturer identified more than $55 million in savings with a two-month ROI across 40 plants and more than 400 suppliers; an LNG operator cut high-value sourcing cycles from days to minutes while achieving 29% savings; and a global medical device manufacturer compressed logistics request-for-quote timelines from four months to six weeks, saving $2.4 million.

The Sacramento Kings were bothered by the Brooklyn Nets' length and defensive activity — as they forced 28 turnovers in their 115-83 blowout victory on Tuesday evening at the Thomas and Mack Center.
Sacramento falls to 1-2 in the Las Vegas Summer League, and Brooklyn improves to 2-1. The Nets also had 21 steals, a plus-14 advantage over the Kings.
Kings rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr. led all scorers with 26 points on 9-for-18 shooting and five ***** ists. Egor Dëmin was Brooklyn's leading scorer with 22 points on 5-for-12 shooting and eight ***** ists.
Sacramento drew first blood after nice ball movement that ended in a Dylan Cardwell dunk (assisted by Alex Karaban). Cardwell's first points were the only easy offense for the Kings, as the Nets' defensive pressure often forced turnovers.
Brooklyn went on an offensive avalanche, responding with an 8-0 run. Once the lead was taken, it was secured for the rest of the game. Drake Powell, who did not hit a three in four summer league games, drained a few in the first quarter.

Seagate Technology Holdings plc (NASDAQ:STX) is one of the best performing AI stocks over the last 3 years, with a 3Y CAGR of 151%. On July 1, Bank of America ***** yst Wamsi Mohan reiterated a Buy rating and raised his price target to $1,150 from $1,000. Mohan's thesis pointed to improving fundamentals, sustained cloud demand and greater discipline in adding hard-drive capacity. He also highlighted build-to-order contracts that support measured price increases, along with the transition to higher-capacity heat-assisted magnetic recording drives.
Carol Gauthier/Shutterstock.com
Those factors could improve revenue visibility, margins, and free cash flow if customer demand remains firm. The AI link is primarily storage economics: training and inference create large datasets that cloud operators must retain at scale, where high-capacity hard drives remain cost-effective. The principal risk is cyclical. Strong pricing can encourage future supply, while customers can pause purchases after capacity additions. The current ***** yst case rests on disciplined industry behavior and a durable data-center demand cycle, not demand alone.
Seagate Technology Holdings plc (NASDAQ:STX) develops mass-capacity data-storage products and systems, including hard disk drives and enterprise storage used by cloud, edge, consumer, and AI data-center customers.
While we acknowledge the risk and potential of STX as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and doing so within a shorter time frame. Lakers officially cut ties with Luka Doncic's 7-foot lob threat originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Luka Doncic landed his ideal lob threat on Wednesday, as the Los Angeles Lakers acquired former Utah Jazz high-upside center Walker Kessler via sign-and-trade.
On the same day, HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported that Doncic's 7-foot lob threat from Feb 2025 to July 2026 is officially departing the franchise.
"The Los Angeles Lakers have officially renounced the free agent rights to LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Dion Waiters, Luke Kennard, Marcus Smart, Maxi Kleber, Nick Smith Jr, Jared Dudley, Avery Bradley, Jaxson Hayes, Markieff Morris, and Wayne Ellington"
Hayes, who officially inked a free agent deal with the Utah Jazz two days after Scotto's report, had his fair share of moments with Doncic in the pick-and-roll. The Texas product enjoyed one of the productive stretches of his career last March, as he averaged 9.8 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 79.7% from the field as the beneficiary of several Doncic-assisted lobs.

Management now champions a new portfolio of 'growth engines,' but the story they quietly shelved was powered by a flagship product whose once-explosive growth has started to cool.
For Intuit (INTU) investors, the new story is loud and clear: the company is firing on all cylinders with a set of "growth engines" all expanding at a blistering pace, "north of 30%." It's a compelling narrative for a stock that has badly lagged the market. But the real signal for a long-term holder isn't what's being amplified, it's what has gone quiet. Just over a year ago, the company's identity was wrapped in a different, singular mission. And the silence that has settled over that old story tells you more about where the real risks and dependencies now lie.
Not long ago, you couldn't get through an Intuit presentation without hearing about the revolution in "done-for-you experiences." This was the core strategy. As recently as a few quarters ago, management was consistently "making progress delivering done-for-you experiences," a concept powered by its AI ***** istant and embodied by its star product, TurboTax Live. The results were spectacular, with the company reporting a stunning "47% growth in TurboTax Live revenue" in that period. It was the undisputed hero of the growth story.
But listen to the latest call, and that specific drumbeat has faded. The "done-for-you" framing is largely gone, replaced by talk of "AI agents" and "autonomous execution." While the underlying business is still there, the narrative emphasis has decisively moved on.
The new headline act is a broader, more diversified portfolio. Management now points to four key areas as the company's future: "Assisted tax, money, portfolio and mid market, all growing north of 30%." This is a classic and often smart strategic pivot, shifting the spotlight from one high-performing product to a basket of them. It spreads the risk and widens the story.

The Egyptian men’s soccer team thinks a higher power interceded in their 3-2 loss to Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16.
Not God, perhaps, but FIFA.
The African side was up 1-0 when Haissem Hassan passed the ball to Mo Salah, who slid it over to Mostafa Ziko for a goal at the 58-minute mark. However, video-assisted replay (VAR) showed that Egypt’s Marwan Attia got tied up with Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez on the other side of the pitch. It was ruled a foul retroactively, and the goal was disallowed.
The decision was met with immediate criticism, including from Fox commentators, for overstepping VAR’s intended purpose. Egypt appeared to get karmic payback a few minutes later when they scored again and this time it counted.
However, Lionel Messi and the defending World Cup champions staged a furious late comeback, eventually winning 3-2 with a game-winner in stoppage time.

NEW YORK, July 2 (Reuters) - Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged shortcomings in the company's sweeping restructuring at an internal town hall on Thursday, saying the systems known as AI agents ‌had not progressed as quickly as he had expected, according to a recording heard by Reuters.
Zuckerberg added that ‌a company reorganization that included major job cuts was not as "clean" as it could have been and that executives had miscalculated on the timing of the changes.
Zuckerberg and other Meta executives have been seeking to moderate some of the organizational changes introduced earlier this year, without fundamentally changing course. The company laid off about 10% of its global workforce and reassigned roughly 7,000 employees to AI-focused teams in May, moves that prompted employee pushback and raised concerns about morale.
The changes were part of a broader restructuring aimed at funding costly investments in artificial intelligence ‌infrastructure and positioning Meta to capitalize on efficiency gains from AI-assisted work. Zuckerberg told employees in May that he did not expect further companywide layoffs this year, though some workers were skeptical.

When Brown University Professor Roberto Serrano changed the format of his midterm exam last spring, he was thinking about his students' mental health, not academic fraud. Two of them had been shot, including Ella Cook, a young woman who had sat in his office just days before the December 13 massacre at Brown University and asked him to be her academic advisor.
"We had a very nice conversation," Serrano recalled in an interview with Fortune. "She was a wonderful young woman, full of energy, full of ideas. Imagine my shock when a few days after that conversation took place, they released the names of the two mortal victims, and I saw that one of them was her."
In that grief, Serrano made a decision he had never made in his 34-year career at Brown and gave his ECON 1170 class—an advanced undergraduate course in mathematical economics—a take-home, closed-book midterm. He wanted to remove the stress of sitting in a classroom on a campus where, he says, quite a few students were still too traumatized to set foot. Two of his students had been among the nine wounded in the attack; they fought for their lives for weeks, and both survived.
What Serrano got instead of gratitude was the largest known AI-assisted cheating scandal in the Ivy League, as previously reported by El Pais.
Of the 86 students who took the March 5 exam, 40 scored a perfect 100. The class average was 96 whereas in previous years, the average had ranged between 65 and 80—and this exam, by design, was harder than usual. "The beauty of take-home exams used to be that we professors were able to challenge students a little more, just to push them to a higher level," Serrano said. "The fact that this was a harder exam and this distribution made it absolutely clear that something very unusual had happened."
