The U.S. government has revealed a new, redesigned passport and announced plans to dramatically modernize the way Americans can apply for one.
Speaking at President Donald Trump's America.gov Event on September 29, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio demonstrated a new passport application process that he said U.S. citizens can "complete entirely from home" and showed off a "beautiful" new U.S. passport that’s expected to roll out in 2028.
The changes are part of the Trump administration's new AI-powered government services platform, America.gov, which he launched on Tuesday, touting it as a "single digital point of entry" designed to simplify how Americans access government services.

On September 9, 2026, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone and the biggest change to the iPhone's design in nearly 20 years, at the first product launch event led by new CEO John Ternus since he succeeded Tim Cook on September 1. The book-style, passport-shaped device opens into a 7.6-inch display, Apple's largest ever, starts at $1,999 for the 256-gigabyte model and rises to $3,199 for 2 terabytes of storage. This makes it the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever sold, with availability set for October 23.
The iPhone Duo gives Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) a new premium growth opportunity in a mature smartphone market. Apple entered the foldable market with the $1,999 Duo. It creates a new high-end product category within its largest hardware franchise. ******* ysts expect Apple to take a real share of the foldable market. The firm's brand strength and large installed base could help speed up use of foldable smartphones.
The Duo creates a materially different iPhone experience that could encourage upgrades and attract Android users. The device opens to a 7.6-inch display, supports side-by-side multitasking, and offers a tablet-like experience in a pocketable design. Apple also shows the Duo's ******* anium frame, custom hinge, A20 Pro chip, and Apple Intelligence features. It gives customers several reasons to pay a substantial premium for the new form factor.
The launch solidifies Apple's hardware innovation strategy under new CEO John Ternus. The Duo represents Apple's most significant iPhone redesign since the iPhone X. It gives Ternus an opportunity to reignite enthusiasm around the company's hardware portfolio. The product also expands Apple's ability to monetize its ecosystem through higher-value hardware, services, and accessories as customers spend more time using a larger, more versatile iPhone.
The $1,999 starting price could keep the Duo a niche product. Reuters reported that the global foldable market could account for less than 3% of smartphone sales in 2026. ******* ysts expect only about 6 million Duo units as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) enters the category. Even strong market share would turn into a relatively small contribution compared with Apple's broader iPhone business.

Apple's (AAPL) rivals in China are not waiting for it to make the first move. Just days before Apple's anticipated debut of its first foldable iPhone at its Sept. 9 event, Huawei and Xiaomi (XIACF) rolled out premium foldable devices of their own.
The timing gives both companies a chance to grab attention before Apple's launch. Huawei is launching the Mate XT 2, a trifold device that packs a phone and a tablet-sized screen into one body, while Xiaomi is close behind with the Xiaomi 18 Fold, a passport-style handset that looks a lot like what Apple is expected to show. So, both companies are trying to enter the high-end foldable market before Apple arrives.

Team USA's bid to win a fifth consecutive FIBA Women's World Cup gold medal begins now.
The Americans open the World Cup with a a preliminary round-robin matchup against China on Friday, Sept. 4, to kick off Group D play, which features Italy and Czechia, in addition to USA and China.
Team USA has been dominant in this tournament, winning nine of the last 12 FIBA World Cups, including four straight. This year's team will be coached by Kara Lawson and features rising American stars like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers.
Both teams had to make last minute adjustments to their rosters. Four-time WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson, who was also the MVP of the 2022 World Cup, and Kelsey Plum won't play for Team USA in Germany due to health reasons. Meanwhile, two-time Olympian and Dallas Wings center Li Yueru won't suit up for the Chinese national team at the World Cup because her passport was lost in the mail, preventing her from traveling to Berlin for the international tournament. Yueru helped China capture a silver medal in the 2022 World Cup.
USA TODAY Sports will provide live coverage of Team USA's World Cup opener. Here's everything you need to know:

BERLIN (AP) — Opponents will be looking up to China during the women's FIBA World Cup, starting with the the United States.
The Americans and everyone else will have to navigate around and over some of the tallest women on the planet: China's 19-year-old Zhang Ziyu stands 7-foot-3. The U.S. team is already familiar with 6-10 Han Xu from her WNBA games with the New York Liberty.
If not for a passport mishap, Zhang and Han would be joined by another center — 6-7 Li Yueru, who plays with the WNBA's Dallas Wings. Li posted on social media Wednesday that her passport was lost in the mail and she won't be able to compete.
China opens its campaign against the four-time defending champion in Berlin on Friday.
Zhang wasn't playing when the U.S. beat China 83-61 in the 2022 World Cup final in Sydney for a fourth consecutive gold medal. She made her senior debut at the Women's Asia Cup last year and helped China capture the bronze, averaging 14.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in the tournament.

China's preparations for its FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup opener against Team USA have been disrupted by an unusual and costly problem. Dallas Wings center Li Yueru will miss the tournament after her passport was lost in the mail, leaving her unable to travel from the United States to Berlin.
Li disclosed the situation on social media, explaining that attempts to locate the passport or secure the necessary documentation in time had been unsuccessful.
"Unfortunately, my passport was lost in the mail, which means I won't be able to participate in this World Cup," Li wrote. "We tried everything we could, but ultimately we couldn't resolve the issue."
The timing could hardly be worse for China. Li was expected to be one of the team's most important players when it opens the tournament against the United States on Friday.

Sept 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department has proposed requiring parents applying for passports for their children to provide proof of their own citizenship or immigration status as part of President Donald Trump's latest effort to limit ‌birthright citizenship.
The draft guidance, reviewed by Reuters, is the first detailed look at how the State Department could enforce Trump's August 6 ‌executive order targeting what it calls "birth tourism" and broadening historical exceptions to birthright citizenship.
The White House referred Reuters questions to the State Department. In a statement, State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said that "President Trump has been unequivocal that this Administration will protect the meaning and value of American citizenship, full stop, and that includes making sure our passport adjudication process fully reflects that standard."
Limiting birthright citizenship has been one of the president's top priorities in his far-reaching crackdown on immigration. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled his previous attempt violated the country's Constitution.

There are plenty of challenges that come with opening a season nearly 8,000 miles from home. The San Francisco 49ers, set to fly Wednesday to Melbourne, Australia, ahead of their Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Rams, are learning them firsthand.
The dizzying list of complications starts with a simple one: "Do you have a passport?"
That's a question general manager John Lynch said he recently asked a potential practice squad player, as his team continues to finalize the group it will bring on a 16-hour flight this week for the Sept. 10 opener.
"There's a lot of little logistics like that that are complicated by this, but we're embracing it," Lynch said ahead of Monday afternoon's practice. "We're having a plan for everything, and we're getting it done."
A day after slicing its roster to 53, San Francisco made a flurry of additional moves. It placed defensive back Nate Hobbs and linebacker Nick Martin on injured reserve, re-signed punter Corliss Waitman and safety Ashtyn Davis one day after releasing them and added 13 of the allotted 17 players to its practice squad. Those were all calls that needed to be made faster than normal because of the impending trip.

One of the things that Luka Doncic's minicamp for his Los Angeles Lakers teammates allowed them to do is visit and explore Doncic's native country of Slovenia. Outside of basketball and training, several activities were planned, including golf, a bicycle race and a rowing session on Lake Bled.
Forward Jarred Vanderbilt apparently liked his experience in Slovenia. In fact, he told a reporter there that he would like to visit the nation again.
"I would love to [return]," Vanderbilt said. "Not gonna lie, I didn't know much about it before I came here, but it's definitely a spot I will revisit."
In fact, Vanderbilt said he wants to obtain a passport.
"I was looking to get my Slovenian passport," he said. "So we'll see. Might be part Slovenian."

Los Angeles Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt might consider a career-changing move after their recent trip to Slovenia to spend time with Luka Doncic.
Doncic invited all his Lakers teammates for the 2026-27 season to his home country of Slovenia, getting to know the players on the massively adjusted roster before a new season.
One of the Lakers players who seemed to have a blast was 27-year-old Vanderbilt, who might be considering a drastic move that a former Lakers teammate made regarding Doncic.
Vanderbilt gave an interview before the Lakers left Slovenia, where he mentioned he is trying to get a Slovenian passport.
"It was amazing… The trip was great. I would love to (come back to Slovenia)… I'm looking to get a Slovenian passport. We'll see. Might be part Slovenian."

As Fiorentina's summer transfer window builds towards denouement with the future of Moise Kean, the secondary narrative couldn't be about anything other than his putative replacement. The usual rumormongers have offered up a handful of names: Lorenzo Lucca, Joshua Zirkzee, William Osula. None of those spark joy even in conjunction with the previously-signed Mateo Pellegrino. Recently, though, a new name darkened my consciousness, one that left me sweaty and shaking. Consider this my formal plea: Fabio Paratici, please, please, please do not sign Mauro Icardi.
If you've been living under a rock, Icardi looks like a great signing. He's hit 10+ league goals in 10 seasons across 4 clubs in 3 countries. He holds an Italian passport, speaks the language fluently, spent nearly a decade in Serie A with Sampdoria and Inter Milan, and has twice been capocannoniere. He's a free agent after his contract with Galatasaray ran out this summer following a 14-goal campaign which demonstrated he's recovered from a major knee injury the year before. At 33, he could have another couple productive seasons, especially because he's always relied more on his poaching instincts and lethal finishing more than his physicality.
If you haven't been living under a rock, though, you know that Icardi is just about the stupidest signing Fiorentina could make. I'm going to list four reasons. Feel free to add your own afterwards because whoo boy can you probably come up with more.
Mauro Icardi is a messy, messy guy. The tabloids have fed on him like vultures for years in a way that makes me uncomfortable but he seems incapable of, for want of a better phrase, being normal. His relationship with Wanda Nara is the stuff of podcasting legend. The tl;dr is that they started hooking up when she was married to his teammate and mentor Maxi López, leading to an ugly divorce and weird custody situation that included Icardi getting tattoos of López and Nara's kids.
That relationship ran its predictable course but not before Nara registered herself as his agent and initiated a disastrous falling out with Inter Milan. After all that, she found evidence of his infidelity and kicked off a years-long cycle of short-term breakups that reached its inevitable conclusion in an acrimonious divorce and subsequent legal battle over alimony and custody that's led to international travel bans, alleged leaks of "intimate videos," mutual accusations of cheating, and missed child support payments. Because the wrangling stretches across continents, it offers unprecedented legal complications and will probably drag on for years before a judge can make any sort of ruling.

Mohammad Amir's new British citizenship could create a fresh complication for the Pakistan fast bowler ahead of the 2027 Pakistan Super League (PSL). Although Amir played as a domestic cricketer in the PSL until last season, he is now expected to be treated as an overseas player.

Amir spoke about the change during an appearance on Wisden's The Scoop Extended, revealing that his new citizenship status would affect how he is classified in the PSL. His British citizenship was confirmed in June after Nottinghamshire signed him for the 2026 Vitality Blast.

The move has already allowed Amir to be treated as a domestic player in English competitions. He also played for Trent Rockets in the 2026 edition of The Hundred after replacing David Payne.
The situation is different in Pakistan. Amir is expected to be classified as an overseas player in the PSL, meaning any team wanting him will have to use one of its foreign-player slots.

Amir played for Rawalpindi in PSL 2026 after being bought for PKR 5.4 crore in the league's first auction. He was among the team's major signings alongside Naseem Shah and Daryl Mitchell.

The change could create a problem because players retained or bought before PSL 2026 were given two-year contracts covering the 2026 and 2027 seasons. Under the PSL auction rules, teams can retain up to seven players for PSL 12, while released players return to the auction pool.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet clarified whether Rawalpindi can keep Amir under his existing deal after his status changes. The team may have to release him, renegotiate his contract or use an overseas-player slot to retain him.

Reports suggesting that PSL 2027 could be Amir's final season have not been confirmed by the cricketer, PCB or Rawalpindi.

For now, what is clear is that Amir holds a British passport, is treated as a domestic player in England and is expected to be an overseas player in the PSL. A formal PCB clarification on his Rawalpindi contract is still awaited.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani defended a controversial city map highlighting immigrant enclaves Friday, saying it was never intended to be comprehensive and promising updates after criticism over the omission of Little Italy.
In response to Fox News Digital's request for comment, the Mayor's Office pointed to remarks Mamdani made during an unrelated press conference Friday, where he said the map was created under the previous administration in 2023.
"This map was initially created by the prior administration in 2023, and when we inherited it, we added a few additional neighborhoods," Mamdani said. "It's clearly not an exhaustive list of the more than 200 ethnic communities that call our city home, and we're going to be making additional changes in the future to reflect that and that includes Little Italy."

The "New York City Immigrant Enclaves" map resurfaced this week on social media after users noted it omitted Little Italy, as well as Jewish and Irish neighborhoods, despite highlighting 30 immigrant communities across the five boroughs. The map is part of the city's Neighborhood Passport campaign tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is under fire from an Italian American heritage group after Little Italy was left off a city immigrant-neighborhood map tied to a World Cup tourism campaign — an omission critics called an insult to one of the communities that helped build New York.
"Zohran Mamdani wants to ERASE Italian Americans. First, he denied our permit for Unity Day 2026. Now, he is excluding Little Italy as a recognized location all together on the map," wrote the Italian American Civil Rights League (IACRL) on X along with a press release.
"Italian Americans BUILT NEW YORK CITY. Not third world Ugandans, We stand AGAINST COMMUNISTS," the group added.

Former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold has officially entered free agency.
According to ESPN, Arnold cleared waivers on Monday, meaning no NFL team claimed his contract following his release by the Lions last week. He is now free to sign with any team interested in adding him to its roster.
Despite his ongoing legal case in Florida, ESPN reports that multiple NFL teams have previously expressed interest in Arnold, and he is expected to visit interested clubs as he looks to continue his professional career.
The Lions released the former first-round pick shortly after a Florida judge denied prosecutors’ request to hold him without bond. Arnold was released from custody after posting $1 million bond and must comply with several conditions while his case proceeds, including remaining at his residence in Tallahassee except for approved travel related to NFL employment, court appearances, or legal appointments. He has also surrendered his passport and is prohibited from contacting co-defendants or witnesses in the case.
Arnold, 23, continues to maintain his innocence after being charged with multiple felony counts, including armed robbery and kidnapping. Prosecutors allege he helped orchestrate a plot targeting three men he believed had stolen cash and luxury items from an Airbnb he had rented in the Tampa area.

On Monday, former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold cleared waivers, as expected. The Lions’ 2024 first-round pick was arrested in June and faces eight felony charges from a February incident that includes kidnapping and armed robbery allegations.
Last week, Arnold posted a $1 million bond, and he is now released under the condition that he not contact any co-defendants or witnesses in his case, forfeits his passport, and strictly stays at home and at work functions. Prosecutors are seeking that Arnold wear an ankle bracelet now that he is unemployed. That hearing is scheduled for Friday.
After clearing waivers, Arnold is a free agent who can sign with any team he pleases, but it’s unclear how likely that is. According to his attorney, three teams have already reached out to Arnold. However, it’s possible he ends up on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, which would prohibit him from practicing or playing with any NFL team. Would any team be willing to take on that risk and the distraction of Arnold’s ongoing court case? We shall see.
As for the Lions, they have yet to make any corresponding move to replace Arnold’s spot on the roster. Detroit has yet to make any sort of public statement on the Arnold situation, other than a boilerplate PR response shortly after his arrest.
“We are aware of the legal situation regarding Terrion Arnold. We will not comment at this time out of respect for the ongoing legal process.”

"Full House" star Jodie Sweetin is opening up about where she and the rest of the cast stand with twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. While appearing on a recent episode of "Comics and Kicks," Sweetin said that she and the Olsens are fine despite rumors that the 40-year-olds were in a bad place with a majority of the cast. According to Sweetin, there's no truth to the claims, and she confirmed that the pair spent several days together in 2022, when actor Bob Saget died.
"Everyone's on good terms with them, but they were 8 years old when this show stopped," Sweetin said about her and the rest of the cast's relationship with the twins. "Then, they did all of those movies and all that stuff that I don't know that they really loved doing all the time."
Don't forget, Mary-Kate and Ashley shared the role of Michelle Tanner in the '80s sitcom "Full House." After that, the pair went on to star in several films, including "Passport to Paris," "Our Lips Are Sealed," "It Takes Two," and "Double Double."
The sisters left the entertainment industry behind in the early 2000s to begin building their fashion brands, "The Row" and "Elizabeth and James." According to Sweetin, the two left the world of acting because it wasn't "what they love."
Later in the podcast interview, Sweetin talked about the twins' relationship with the acting industry, stating that they didn't enjoy being on the show's set.

Dubai: UAE fast bowler Khuzaima Tanveer has credited the ILT20 with accelerating his development as an international cricketer, saying the competition gave him the confidence to compete at the highest level after earning his maiden call-up for the national side earlier this year.

The 26-year-old, who has represented the UAE in three ODIs and two T20Is since making his debut in April, said the franchise league played a key role in preparing him for international cricket through regular exposure to elite players.

"Representing the UAE was a proud moment for me and it's something every young cricketer dreams about. Getting my UAE passport and then going on to play for the national team were very special milestones for me and my family. The ILT20 helped prepare me for that level because you're constantly competing against high-quality players. It gives you confidence that you belong on the international stage," Tanveer said.

Tanveer first caught the eye during the third season of the tournament with figures of 4/22 against the Sharjah Warriorz.

Across two seasons with the Desert Vipers, he has claimed 24 wickets in 18 matches and finished with 17 wickets during the franchise's ******* le-winning campaign in Season 4, making him the second-highest wicket-taking UAE player in the competition and third overall. He was also shortlisted for the Blue Belt award, presented to the tournament's best UAE player, which was won by Muhammad Waseem.

The right-arm pacer said one of the biggest benefits of the tournament had been the opportunity to learn from established international cricketers.
"It's not only about what happens in the matches. A lot of the learning happens during training sessions, team meetings, and conversations around the group. I was fortunate to have the likes of Sam Curran, Naseem Shah and Lockie Ferguson in our team. Even small pieces of advice from such players add up over time and help you become a better cricketer," he said.

Tanveer also brushed aside comparisons between his bowling action and that of Pakistan fast bowling great Waqar Younis.

"I don't think anyone can compare themselves to someone like Waqar Younis. He's a legend of the game and someone every fast bowler looks up to. If people see similarities, I take it as a compliment, but my focus is on becoming the best version of myself," he said.

Looking ahead to the fifth season of the ILT20, Tanveer said he hopes to build on his progress and cement his place in the UAE side.

"Once you represent the UAE, you carry extra responsibility. People expect more from you and you expect more from yourself. My aim is to keep improving, perform consistently, and contribute whenever I get the opportunity," he said.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando desperately wanted World Cup matches.
We put in our bid, lobbied hard and dreamed. We imagined Lake Eola draped in the colors of the world, downtown overflowing with supporters from six continents, and Camping World Stadium taking its place on soccer’s biggest stage just as it did in 1994.
Except this time, FIFA passed us by. But maybe we’ve been looking at this all wrong.
Although Orlando didn’t get World Cup games, we gave the World Cup something far more important. We gave the United States one of its brightest young stars.
Alex Freeman isn’t simply playing in the World Cup. He’s starting in it. He’s scoring in it. He’s becoming one of the breakout players of the tournament. And while the passport says he was raised in South Florida and the family name carries NFL royalty, the soccer player the world is discovering now was built in Central Florida.

First things first, let's talk a little about the Terrion Arnold story.
It was a whirlwind of news yesterday, as he got through his hearing and was granted bail (despite the local attorney's office requesting he be held without bail). Some clips from the hearing even leaked out that seemed like his defense was really running circles around the competition. But then only a couple of hours later, the news broke the the Detroit Lions had released Arnold.
The Detroit Lions have released cornerback Terrion Arnold less than a week after being arrested in Florida. The former first-round pick had been with the team since 2024, but the Lions cut ties with him after the 23-year-old was charged with multiple felonies stemming from an incident that occurred in February.
The charges, which include four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery, carry a maximum punishment of life in prison.
During a court hearing on Monday, the judge in the case set a $1 million bond for Arnold, but that came with several conditions. The cornerback has to turn in his passport to the court, and he's not allowed to have any contact with his six co-defendants in the case. The Lions cut him just hours after his hearing ended.

Tilak Varma's fighting half-century was one of the few positives for India in their dramatic one-run defeat to Ireland in the second T20I on Sunday, but the left-hander also found himself on an unwanted list after registering one of the slowest fifties by an Indian in T20 Internationals.

Walking in with India in deep trouble after a top-order collapse, Tilak reached his half-century in 45 deliveries during the chase of 155 at Stormont. The knock is now tied as the sixth-slowest T20I fifty by an Indian and stands as the slowest-ever half-century by an Indian batter against Ireland in the format.

The circumstances, however, were far from ordinary. India were rocked in the opening over when software engineer-turned-cricketer Jai Moondra, who hails from Tonk in Rajasthan and still holds an Indian passport, dismissed Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma for first-ball ducks before removing captain Shreyas Iyer to leave the visitors reeling.

India slipped to 35 for 4 inside the Powerplay after Ishan Kishan was run out, leaving Tilak with the task of rebuilding the innings on a surface offering movement, uneven bounce and seam throughout the chase.

Unlike several of his teammates who struggled to adjust to the conditions, Tilak adopted a patient approach, absorbing pressure before stitching together a valuable partnership with Axar Patel. He eventually brought up his fifty by launching Matthew Hollard over deep mid-wicket for India's first six of the innings.

The milestone, however, proved short-lived. Attempting another attacking stroke off the very next ball, Tilak mistimed a lofted drive to extra cover and departed for 55 off 46 deliveries, ending India's best hope of completing the chase.

Harshit Rana's late cameo of 21 from just 10 ******* briefly revived India's hopes, but Ireland held their nerve to restrict India to 153 for 9, sealing a famous one-run victory and completing a historic 2-0 series sweep over the reigning T20 World Cup champions.

The defeat also ended India's run of 16 consecutive T20I series victories dating back to 2023, while Ireland celebrated their first-ever bilateral T20I series triumph over India.

And I will remind you that every time the Texas Rangers have won the World Series, they have swept a four game series in Toronto that season.
In what has been a recurring theme in this series, Texas took an early lead, had to deal with some bullpen shenanigans late, but still managed to pull it out.
Fun fact…by my count, there were exactly 15 plate appearances in this series where the game was tied. In every other plate appearance in this series, the Blue Jays were trailing.
