On Wednesday, OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) revealed six new examples of its AI models displaying "unexpected or concerning model behavior" during testing and evaluation.
The company made the announcement alongside a new framework for "tracking, reporting, and disclosing" instances where AI models take actions they otherwise aren't told to or shouldn't.
It follows a number of reports of AI models from companies hacking into third-party networks and services, including an unreleased OpenAI model breaking into the network of AI model and testing site Hugging Face.
Earlier this week, Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) CEO Dario Amodei penned a lengthy essay calling for a slowdown in the pace of the development of frontier AI models, after Anthropic researcher Jacob ******* on posted on X that he was resigning from the company because it, and his former employer OpenAI, is "racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives."
Anthropic alignment science lead Evan Hubinger followed up on ******* on's comments with his own post on X saying that he believes there is a greater-than-10% chance that the technology could "kill all humans."

Tech stocks rose in pre-market trading on Tuesday, with the Nasdaq climbing 0.5%.
SK Hynix (SKHY) released a statement Wednesday saying that it is "exploring various options" following a Reuters report that the company is seeking to manufacture its memory chips in the US for the first time at Intel's (INTC) planned fabrication facility in Ohio.
A separate plan would see SK Hynix create a venture with Intel and cloud giants to build the chips.
Shares of both Intel and SK Hynix rose more than 3%.
OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), meanwhile, is reportedly planning another funding round that would value the AI startup at $1.2 trillion, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The often-teflon AI trade has officially been rattled.
AI stocks are getting absolutely crushed in premarket trading on Monday after Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) CEO Dario Amodei dropped a gloomy 3,800-word essay that rattled investor confidence across the entire semiconductor and AI infrastructure complex.
Momentum AI names took it on the chin, with Marvell (MRVL) and SK Hynix (SKHY) each down 7%, CoreWeave (CRWV), SanDisk (SNDK), Intel (INTC), and AMD (AMD) all off 6%, Micron (MU) and Super Micro (SMCI) down 5%.
Even the two most important names in AI — Nvidia (NVDA) and Broadcom (AVGO) — are sliding 3% before the opening bell.
Within the course of two days, AI ******* ans at Anthropic (ANTH.PVT), CEO Dario Amodei, and OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), CEO Sam Altman, have managed to scare the ******* out of the human race with the powerful technology they created and pushed their teams full of pioneering super-coders to supercharge.

Dire warnings on AI from the CEOs of Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) and OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) could weigh especially heavily on the business of CoreWeave if the tech is reined in.
"The most exposed name in our coverage is CoreWeave," Bernstein ******* yst Madison Rezaei wrote in a note on Monday. "We estimate that 25% of their existing active U.S. power, with an additional ~74% of their contracted power, is situated in Tier 3 and Tier 4 markets. The backlog is primarily comprised of take-or-pay contracts, so we do not anticipate a threat there, but could see a pullback in demand for the contracted, not-yet-sold rural power if training development slows."
CoreWeave shares fell nearly 7% in premarket trading, one of the worst slides in the AI stock patch on the fresh CEO warnings.

"Over the last few months, I have become convinced that fully addressing the risks requires even more prudence — not just investing in risk prevention, but pacing the rate of capabilities advancement so that risk prevention has time to keep up," Amodei stated in a 3,800-word essay on Saturday. "We must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of A.I. models. Progress will still seem fast, and we must make wise use of the time we gain."

US stock futures sank on Monday morning after the two leading frontier artificial intelligence companies called for an industrywide slowdown of AI development, sending tech stocks tumbling. Rising oil prices and an upcoming Fed meeting this week also put pressure on stocks.
Futures on the tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 (NQ=F) fell 1.5%, led by losses in chip stocks, including Nvidia (NVDA). Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (YM=F) fell 0.3%, while those on the S&P 500 (ES=F) declined by 0.6%. In Asia, shares of memory chip makers SK Hynix (SKHY) and Samsung (005930.KS) dropped.
Tech stocks were poised to fall after Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) CEO Dario Amodei wrote a 3,800-word essay over the weekend, arguing that AI companies should slow the pace of improving AI models in order to address safety concerns. Sam Altman, the CEO of rival AI lab OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), agreed in a post on X, putting the two AI companies at odds with Wall Street, which has banked on a brisk pace of improvement.
Worries about AI safety also led OpenAI to delay its initial public offering until 2027, Altman told Fortune. Anthropic still plans to list in the fall and has reportedly chosen the Nasdaq for its highly anticipated IPO.
Oil prices, meanwhile, continued to climb after Saudi Arabia shut down a key pipeline in the Middle East and as the war in the Middle East spread. Brent crude (BZ=F) traded near $108 per barrel.

An AI-hungry Google (GOOG, GOOGL) isn't playing nice with one of the largest content publishers on the internet.
"Here's the truth. For a long time, we had a deal with Google, an unwritten deal, which was 'you can use our content to build your search product, and in return, we get sessions,'" People Inc. (PPLI) CEO Neil Vogel told Yahoo Finance from the Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Tech Conference (video above). "Now the search product has turned into an AI product by and large, and they still use our content to train their AI, both in real time and in a training way — we don't have to get into the AI terminology of it — but now they don't share anything with us."
Google's push into AI-powered summaries has upended search traffic for publishers. Many fear the situation will get worse, triggering more sweeping cost cuts among many players in 2026.
Vogel said the company has signed content licensing deals with Microsoft (MSFT), Meta (META), and OpenAI (OPAI.PVT). Ideally, he would also like to ink one with Google.
He stopped short of saying he would turn off Google from crawling People's content.

Tech stocks were volatile on Monday as strengthening AI optimism from bullish Nvidia (NVDA) earnings last week clashed with increased odds of a Fed interest rate hike in September.
It's a momentous day for one company in particular — Apple (AAPL). Longtime CEO Tim Cook steps down on Sept. 1 and will hand the reins to senior vice president of hardware engineering John Ternus.
Cook was seen as a savvy operator, navigating the company through tariffs, supply chain snarls, and the launch of new products such as the Apple Watch and AirPods. He also quadrupled Apple's yearly revenue.
Elsewhere in tech, it was a mixed bag. Semiconductor stocks edged higher on the whole, while software stocks wavered, coming off a big week of decisively strong earnings. Several of the "Magnificent Seven" hyperscaler stocks, however, dropped as concerns about higher borrowing costs and capital expenditures weighed on shares.
OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) fought back against allegations that it stole trade secrets from Apple (AAPL), according to a new court filing published on Monday, as a legal battle between the two highly secretive tech firms heats up.

This year has already delivered one of the most extraordinary IPO periods in recent years. ****** eX (SPCX), Cerebras (CBRS), and Jersey Mike's (JMKE) have been some of the buzzier names to debut in public markets.
But this could be just the tip of the IPO iceberg as we look into the fall — and along with it, some very bold promises on future performance.
Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) has filed confidentially for a potential IPO as soon as October. The Claude creator may pitch to investors that its potential revenue opportunities are above $30 trillion, per a new report from the Wall Street Journal.
OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) is not far behind, judging by all the execs it has sent packing this summer. It too could follow Anthropic with a seemingly outlandish future revenue estimate.
"I actually like it [the revenue estimate] because it talks about sort of what the opportunity is. If it's enterprise, if it's consumer, it's coding, it's actually changing not only how we do work, but also how we develop products. I think it is viable," Connor Group managing partner Jim Neesen said on Yahoo Finance's Opening Bid. "I mean, if you look at their revenue growth, $65 billion is their run rate. They were $9 billion last year. That's a sevenfold increase. I do think that market opportunity is out there."

Investors may be forgetting that Nvidia (NVDA) is the dominant player in the AI chip game — at least through the lens of the valuation on the chip king's stock.
The call: Nvidia shares are trading at a roughly 40%-50% discount to AI compute peers on an enterprise value-to-free cash flow basis, according to new research from Bank of America ****** yst Vivek Arya. What's more, the stock is trading at a 31% to 36% discount to the S&P 500 (^GSPC).
The relative valuation discount on Nvidia is "overstating the risks" ****** ociated with investments in companies such as OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) and Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) and creating a "compelling opportunity," Arya said.
Despite an 8% rally over the past month heading into Nvidia's Aug. 26 earnings report, shares of Nvidia are still 7% below their 52-week high. Nvidia's stock hit a 52-week high of $236.54 on May 14, per Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data.
If there is any reason to proceed with caution ahead of Nvidia's earnings, it's that the market is positioned for the company to post something great and for CEO Jensen Huang to sound super bullish on the earnings call.

OpenAI (Unlisted:OPAI) is on track to generate annualised revenue of more than $40 billion, according to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, roughly double its run rate at the end of 2025.
The acceleration strengthens the case for a stock market debut, with the ChatGPT maker having filed confidential paperwork to go public.
Growth has been driven in part by its AI coding software, alongside subscription sales, a young advertising business and a still-expanding consumer arm.
Greg Brockman, co-founder and president, told staff the run rate rose more than 20% month-on-month in July.
Chief financial officer Sarah Friar had previously said the company ended last year above $20 billion.

OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) on Monday said it is launching premium seat options for ChatGPT Business. The move comes as the company looks to grow its revenue sources ahead of its planned initial public offering (IPO).
In a post on its website, OpenAI said the premium service is intended for power users and offers five times the usage of its standard ChatGPT Business seats.
The premium plan costs $125 per user per month, or $100 per user per month billed annually. The standard business plan costs $25 per user per month, or $20 on an annual billing cycle.
Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) charges the same prices for its Teams plans.
OpenAI continues to expand its services into the business and enterprise markets to keep pace with rival Anthropic and drive higher sales beyond its consumer product offerings.

Microsoft (MSFT) is riding high. The company reported better-than-anticipated fourth quarter results after the bell last week, winning over investors who had soured on the Windows developer's stock.
Microsoft has been hounded for much of the year over questions about when its massive AI investments would begin to pay off and whether its Copilot AI software was gaining traction among its vast customer base.
Now it looks as though that's beginning to happen, with the company saying it now has more than 30 million paid Microsoft Copilot 365 seats. Azure revenue also grew 43% last quarter, and growth is expected to continue to accelerate through the first half of Microsoft's fiscal 2027.
However, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that the bulk of Microsoft's AI growth came from OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), adding to concerns about too much revenue concentration around a small set of AI companies.
Despite that, Microsoft's results helped boost Wall Street's confidence in the company's AI plans. While shares of Microsoft underperformed the broader S&P 500, as well as peers Google and Amazon over the last 12 months, the stock turned positive year to date following the company's earnings announcement.

Two of the biggest listings in market history are queued up for the back end of this year, and punters are already pricing the run-in.
Polymarket has opened books on where OpenAI (Unlisted:OPAI) and Anthropic (Unlisted (US):ANTHRO) private valuations land at the end of August, settled on the price reported by Nasdaq Private Market.
The contrast between the two is the interesting bit. OpenAI's market is tightly clustered and reasonably well traded, with 54% on a valuation of $800 billion to $900 billion, and a further 23% on $900 billion to $1 trillion.
That is basically a bet on nothing happening, since OpenAI was last marked at $852 billion in March and has sat there ever since. A related market gives it a 57% chance of touching $900 billion by 31 August.
Anthropic's book, by comparison, is barely trading, with most brackets showing no volume at all and prices that do not add up to a coherent picture.

What happened: Reddit (RDDT) stock plunged nearly 21% on Friday, its largest intraday decline since the company went public.
What's behind the move: The user discussion platform company's latest earnings report did not announce any new artificial intelligence data licensing agreements, disappointing investors who were expecting more revenue opportunities from AI partnerships.
Revenue of $804.9 million beat estimates of $731.8 million. However, US daily active users came in at 53.2 million, just shy of expectations of 54 million. The company's total daily active users grew by 18% to 130.3 million versus estimates of 130.07 million.
What else you need to know: Reddit's main revenue comes from its advertising business, but Wall Street has increasingly focused on the potential of Reddit's data licensing deals, given the platform's massive collection of user-generated discussions, which have become valuable for AI companies training models.
The company has already signed major agreements with OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) and Google (GOOG, GOOGL).

US tech stocks regained their footing on Tuesday as a sell-off in chip stocks underscored concerns about AI circular financing deals, countering a drop in oil prices and earnings optimism.
The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) bounced back from earlier losses to hover near the flat line. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) rose nearly 0.4%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) climbed 1.2% as investors weighed the latest quarterly results.
Stocks generally moved higher as the earnings deluge continued. Boeing (BA), PayPal (PYPL), and Coca-Cola (KO) all rose after reporting results, with Coca-Cola stock on track for its best day since 2009. Investors will be watching SK Hynix's results due around 8 p.m. ET for insight into the memory trade as AI worries swirl.
That helped offset souring sentiment in the chip sector amid reports that Nvidia (NVDA) is exploring a $250 billion funding backstop for OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), further intertwining the two companies and heightening worries about circular financing. Tech traders also grew nervous that Chinese competition is narrowing the AI gap with US companies, undermining prospects for a payoff.
Oil prices, meanwhile, continued to retreat after the US and Iran halted active fighting and President Trump said the two sides were in diplomatic talks. "There's a good chance that something could happen, and if it does, good," Trump said aboard Air Force One on Monday. "If it doesn't, we go back to doing what we were doing."

Yahoo Finance's AI winners and losers provides a weekly snapshot of some of the biggest stories impacting the artificial intelligence industry. From chip manufacturers and model developers to software companies and politicians, we look at who has benefited from AI and who has stumbled.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSM) announced blowout earnings on Thursday and said it will increase spending to expand its US footprint. Second quarter revenue jumped 36% year over year, while net income rocketed 77.4% higher.
TSMC produces semiconductors for the world's most influential tech companies, including Apple (AAPL), AMD (AMD), Nvidia (NVDA), and Qualcomm (QCOM). And the AI boom has paid off handsomely for the Taiwan-based manufacturer. Annual revenue has increased from $75.99 billion in 2022 to $122.56 billion in 2025.
According to CFO Wendell Huang, TMSC's Q2 results were supported by strong demand, which he expects to continue into the current quarter as tech companies seek as many AI chips as they can get.

Apple (AAPL) is suing OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), accusing the AI lab of trade secret theft as part of its effort to develop its own AI hardware devices.
"OpenAI and its cohorts have been engaging in a coordinated pattern of misconduct at an institutional level," Apple claims.
In its suit, filed in the US District Court for Northern California, Apple alleges that OpenAI's hardware chief Tang Tan, who previously served as vice president of product design at Apple, and Chang Liu, a former Apple electrical engineer who now works at OpenAI, colluded to steal information from the iPhone maker that would help it build its AI products.
According to the suit, Tan began emailing himself information about Apple's suppliers before leaving his position at the company and moving on to OpenAI.
The lawsuit also states that Tan would use internal Apple codenames when interviewing candidates for positions at OpenAI who worked at Apple, in an effort to dig up further information. Tan, the suit says, also requested candidates who still employed by Apple to bring "actual parts" to interviews for "show and tell" sessions.

Tech stocks rebounded on Monday after a brutal week last week that saw the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) drop 4.6% over five days. Memory supply chain bottlenecks that are driving up AI component costs and skepticism over enormous investments in artificial intelligence have rattled tech investors as markets near the midpoint of the year.
A report last week that OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) may delay its initial public offering until 2027 has added to the tumult. According to the report, the reaction to ****** eX's (SPCX) IPO is one reason for OpenAI's caution. Since its blockbuster public debut, ****** eX stock has given up nearly all its post-IPO gains.
Apple (AAPL) stock continued to face selling pressure on Monday after the company announced price hikes on MacBooks and iPads to offset higher memory costs. The supply crunch for memory chips has hit other hardware makers, too, including Microsoft's (MSFT) Xbox.
Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) stock, however, jumped 4% as it joined the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI), replacing Verizon's stock in the blue-chip index.
This week will test whether investors continue to take profits on this year's high-flying tech names or buy the dip on some recently beaten-down names.

US stocks were volatile on Friday, with semiconductor stocks retreating after a report of a potential delay to OpenAI's (OPAI.PVT) IPO added to the headwinds that have whipsawed markets this week.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) was down 0.2%, while the S&P 500 (^GSPC) fell slightly, with both indexes closing out the week with losses of more than 4% and nearly 2%, respectively.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI), which includes fewer tech names, dropped below the flat line, but notched a weekly win of less than 1%.
Concerns are growing that the skyrocketing cost of memory and storage components could hit device makers, after Apple (AAPL) raised prices of its MacBooks and iPads. Memory chipmaker Micron's (MU) stellar earnings showed the squeeze is set to continue.

US stocks were modestly lower on Wednesday after consumer inflation soared to its highest level in three years and renewed US-Iran military clashes cast doubt on the odds for peace talks.
The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) fell 0.2% as Tuesday's sell-off in tech stocks deepened, while the S&P 500 (^GSPC) declined by 0.1% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) dropped by 0.4%.
The focus was on May's CPI report, which showed consumer prices rose at the fastest rate since May 2023. The 4.2% annual rise in CPI inflation was in line with expectations; however, the hot reading may boost bets that the Federal Reserve will hike interest rates this year.
Energy prices remained the biggest driver of inflation, amid the protracted war with Iran. Tensions between the US and Iran ramped back up, with the two sides trading strikes overnight after the downing of an Apache helicopter. President Trump said on Wednesday that Iran has "taken too long" to negotiate and would have to "pay the price." Oil prices gained after Trump's post on social media.

Oracle's broader Cloud business, which includes Cloud Applications and Cloud Infrastructure, is expected to reach $9.99 billion.

SpaceX (SPAX.PVT), OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), and Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) have scale and tech appeal. IPO history says those help — but profits are still the cleaner test.
That matters as ****** eX pitches investors on a record $75 billion public offering. The company has rockets, satellites, Starlink, defense demand, and one of the biggest private-market stories on the planet. What it may not have is the one thing Wall Street eventually asks every growth story to show: that the business can make money.
SpaceX's filing shows the scale, but also the gap. The company generated nearly $19 billion in revenue in 2025 but posted a net loss of nearly $5 billion, according to its IPO paperwork. That gives investors plenty of business to ****** yze — but not a profitable one yet.
A great company can still be a rough trade on IPO day. After the opening rush, the question shifts from who wants access to what the business can already prove.
That is where the data gets uncomfortable.
