Boardmasters is set to bring some of the world's best surfers to Cornwall this summer after its flagship competition was upgraded to one of Europe's biggest events.
The Boardmasters Open at Fistral Beach in Newquay will run from 5 to 9 August with a new Qualifying Series 4,000 status, up from QS 2,000 last year.
It means the winner can get up to 4,000 points towards progressing up the rankings, instead of 2,000.
Organisers said the move placed it among the top three events of its kind in Europe and they expected the festival to attract a stronger international line-up.

What time is the NBA Finals tonight? TV schedule, channel to watch Spurs vs. Knicks Game 2 originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
With an opening win on the road in San Antonio, many thought the Knicks 11-game win streak would come to an end. Well, many thought wrong, as the Knicks' late-game comeback led to a 10-point victory.
San Antonio looked to be the favorites early on and led by as many as 14 points in this contest. In the second half, the Knicks outscored the Spurs by 17 points, thanks to 30 points from Jalen Brunson.
The Spurs' major threats were tied down in Game 1, with Victor Wembanyama going 6-for-21 from the floor. Instead, Julian Champagnie became a major shooting threat from beyond the arc. He made five of ten three pointers for 16 total points and 10 rebounds.
Looking ahead to Game 2, the key for the Knicks is to find better ways to crash the boards. The Spurs grabbed five more rebounds than the Knicks in Game 1, including 4 offensive rebounds. Five different players on the Spurs grabbed at least 8 rebounds in that game, meaning the Knicks have a lot of threats to manage.

A beleaguered satellite company on the verge of bankruptcy a year ago has become the Fortune 500’s latest success story in shareholder returns: its stock price soared 430% since the beginning of last year, including nearly 375% in 2025 alone.
EchoStar, which sits at No. 302 on the Fortune 500 list, released this Wednesday, saw a dramatic turnaround in 2025 after it sold its wireless spectrum to **** eX in September 2025 for $17 billion—with $8.5 billion paid in cash and then $8.5 billion in equity, or roughly 2% to 3% of the Elon Musk-led company. With $11.1 billion in **** eX equities after **** eX bought another $2.6 billion in spectrum in November 2025, EchoStar has gone from a limping business to a mouth-watering public market proxy ahead of **** eX’s initial public offering later this month.
In June 2025, EchoStar was reportedly preparing to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The satellite company was under investigation from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) over its compliance with federal obligations to provide its 5G service across the U.S. The previous year, satellite TV provider DirecTV abandoned its proposed deal to acquire EchoStar’s video distribution business because of a failed debt-exchange offer. EchoStar previously disclosed $500 million of missed interest payments as a result the company’s broader liquidity crisis, as seen in the FCC probe.
But the company saw a change of fate last June after President Donald Trump reportedly sat down with EchoStar president and co-founder Charlie Ergen and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to push EchoStar to begin selling its spectrum licenses. In August 2025, AT&T finalized a $23 billion acquisition that would add an average of about 50 MHz of low- and mid-band spectrum to AT&T’s holding. **** eX followed up that deal with one of their own, agreeing to buy wireless spectrum licenses. Boost Mobile, which is owned by EchoStar, also became a long-term commercial partner with **** eX, agreeing to allow its subscribers access to Starlink’s direct-to-cell satellite capabilities. The acquisition was mutually beneficial: EchoStar had a clean balance sheet, and **** eX would be able to boost the network capacity of its Starlink programs and 5G connectivity.
The **** eX news sent EchoStar shares soaring 19% in early trading, and the stock would triple its share price from the time of the deal to the end of the year. AT&T stock is down following news of **** eX’s pending IPO, with investors seeing a rapid switch to satellite internet compared to AT&T’s primarily broadband business.

UFC's International Fight Week just got more violent.
A lightweight matchup pitting exciting strikers King Green and Terrance McKinney has been added to the lineup for UFC 329 – which goes down on July 11 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The news was confirmed by both fighters on social media following a report from Heavy.
Green has been on a career renaissance. After suffering violent stoppage losses a year ago, the 39-year-old veteran has won three fights in a row, beating Lance Gibson Jr., Daniel Zellhuber, and, most recently, in May, fellow veteran Jeremy Stephens. Green is one of the most seasoned fighters on the entire UFC roster with 54 professional fights under his belt.
On the other hand, McKinney has also been enjoying a good amount of momentum. He's 3-1 in his past four outings. McKinney was last seen in action in March, where he scored a TKO win over Kyle Nelson in his home state of Washington.

Michigan State football has added a commitment from a preferred walk-on prospect from a nearby town.
The Spartans have added another tight end to their 2026 roster -- Ethan Melville of Holt, Mich. The local standout prospect has flipped his commitment from Calvin College and will now join Michigan State for the upcoming season.
Melville played quarterback for the Rams the past two seasons and also saw action on the defensive side of the ball. He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, and will now transition to playing tight end at the college level.
As a preferred walk-on, there is only positives that could come out of this addition. Melville could surprise some folks and play his way into a role at some point at Michigan State. And if he doesn't, it never hurts to have a local prospect join the program to help on the scout team or as a depth player. This addition is a win-win for the Spartans.

The New York Yankees still do not have a firm diagnosis regarding franchise player Aaron Judge. But the circle of medical specialists aiming to get him right continues to grow.
The Yankees confirmed to news media after their Thursday, June 4 game that tests on Judge's rib and shoulder will be reviewed by Dallas-based vascular specialist Gregory Pearl, who specializes in "thoracic outlet syndrome management in high-performance athletes," according to his website.
Judge was initially diagnosed with a bone bruise near his right rib cage, which multiple tests have confirmed. Yet he was sent for more testing Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, and after the Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians 2-1, the club confirmed to reporters that test results will be viewed by Pearl, the thoracic outlet syndrome specialist.
It's an unsettling development for Judge, as TOS has significantly impacted or ended careers, such as former World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg. It also ended the 2025 season of Cy Young Award hopeful Zack Wheeler, who underwent surgery to remove a rib in September.

On Tuesday night, before the weekly NXT episode, Shawn Michaels dropped a bomb. NXT Great American Bash 2026 will take place on Sunday, June 28, at 7 PM EST on The CW. “That’s good news!” you’ll say. In fact, no. Once again, it will be one of these crazy weekends for the wrestling fans and writers like me. In fact, WWE NXT adds a PLE to an already stacked day of shows. Yet, on June 27, WWE presents Night of Champions live from Saudi Arabia.
Then comes the “big day”: TNA presents Slammiversary live from Boston, MA, while AEW x NJPW x CMLL x Stardom presents Forbidden Door from San Jose, CA. Plus, now, WWE presents NXT Great American Bash. Before Dave Meltzer said it, we all thought the same: this is not a coincidence. If it’s a mess in my writer’s mind, I can’t imagine what it’s like for the fans.
AEW Forbidden Door was announced on April 15, with tickets on sale on April 27. The 2026 edition is reuniting wrestlers from All Elite Wrestling (AEW), New **** an Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), and World Wonder Ring Stardom. It will air at 8 PM EST on HBO Max and Prime Video. No matches have been announced yet, but Will Ospreay will compete in the Men’s Owen Hart Cup Final. The winner will receive an AEW World Championship match at AEW All In.
TNA Slammiversary was announced on April 9, with tickets on sale on April 29. The 2026 edition of TNA’s anniversary show comes as the company could reveal a full year of live events, live TNA Thursday Night iMPACT and PLEs, something that may have never happened before. It was supposed to air at 8 PM EST on TNA Plus. TNA President Carlos Silva preferred to move the debut hour to 4 PM (3 PM for the Countdown) to “avoid conflicts” with AEW Forbidden Door.
The event is probably the most “built-up” one, even though many things remain to be said and done. Every Championship will have to be defended. The X-Division Championship will be defended in a 6-Man Ultimate X match, including Champion Cedric Alexander and former Champion Leon Slater. A Ladder match is set to happen; it could involve the Hardys and the Righteous. KC Navarro and Xia Brookside became the #1 contenders for the TNA International and TNA Knockouts World Championships, respectively.

The biggest question surrounding the Detroit Lions right now is whether they will make running back Jahmyr Gibbs the NFL’s first $100 million running back. What is no longer in question, however, is his importance to the offense following David Montgomery’s departure.
Fantasy football managers may have received even more encouraging news on Thursday. Lions head coach Dan Campbell spoke with reporters and showered Gibbs with praise. More importantly, he officially anointed Gibbs as the unquestioned bell-cow back of the offense.
MORE: Jacksonville Jaguars star Brian Thomas Jr. appears ready for massive bounce-back season
That designation means Detroit plans to build its offense around Gibbs. Few players possess his combination of explosiveness, versatility, and playmaking ability. Many around the league already view him as the NFL’s top running back. For fantasy football players preparing for drafts, Gibbs has a legitimate case to be the No. 1 overall pick.
Dynasty fantasy football managers should be especially excited. Gibbs’ trade value has skyrocketed, and his outlook extends well beyond the 2026 season. He remains under contract through 2027, and Detroit could eventually reward him with a record-setting extension to keep him in town for the long haul.

Southwest Florida's top running back has hit the transfer portal — for the second time in four months.
And with that news, Barron Collier great Clifton Robinson can pop some champagne.
Nino Joseph, who announced his intention to transfer from Lely to St. John Neumann in January, is transferring to Miami Central, according to his social media pages on Thursday, June 4.
Joseph ran for 1,955 yards and 53 touchdowns a season ago with the Trojans, finishing 8-4 with a regional semifinal appearance. Joseph (4,615 rushing yards, 57 rushing TDs) was well-positioned to become Collier County's all-time leading rusher had he stayed, needing just 1,250 yards to overtake Robinson for the record, which still stands at 5,864 yards three decades later.

If a recent report from Rangers News (as cited by The Daily Record) is believed to be true, Rangers are in direct contact with Hampus Skoglund’s representatives ahead of a potential summer move. They are also monitoring his former U21 Sweden teammate Casper Widell, and the Excelsior centre-back could also be roped in alongside the Hammarby right-back.
The 22-year-old defender, who is representing his nation at the U21 level, progressed through IK Frej and Hammarby’s academy ranks before breaking into the latter’s reserves in the third tier of Swedish football. Skoglund was soon promoted to their senior side, as he has so far appeared 80 times for Bajen across competitions.
Although both Rangers and Schalke have been keeping close tabs on the youngster for quite some time, the Glasgow giants are now accelerating talks to restore parity in the right-back role. James Tavernier decided to part ways after an illustrious career, and the club are weighing up alternatives, including Skoglund.

Besides Tavernier, Danny Rohl deployed Dujon Sterling and Max Aarons on the right-hand side of a ‘back four’ setup. Sterling impressed with his energetic runs and attacking prowess, but the gaffer could not rely on him week in, week out due to his persistent injury woes. Max Aarons, on loan from Bournemouth, failed to cement a regular spot and is now back at his parent club, as he is unlikely to return to Ibrox for one more season.

YouTuber Jesse Ridgway spoke about one of the hardest decisions he and his wife, Ashley Ridgway, ever had to make. The 33-year-old, who is also known as McJuggerNuggets, updated that they had to terminate the pregnancy due to "Trisomy 21."
The YouTuber, who has 4.34M subscribers, took to X to share the heartbreaking news. He wrote, "The choice was not made lightly. We really appreciate all of the personal stories that you guys shared with us, especially the unconditional support we received from fans with no matter what we decided. I know some of you may be very disappointed to hear this news. We are devastated. This has been extremely traumatic for both of us, especially Ashley. She underwent the procedure earlier this week and is on the mend. Thankfully, everything went smoothly, but emotionally we are drained."
He then explained, "Trisomy 21, also known as Down Syndrome, is caused by an extra chromosome. It is caused by an error in cell division, like a glitch. The odds of a baby having it are 1 in 1000. When I first confronted this news, I was shocked but optimistic. If they're a little slow intellectually, then we'll make it work. I signed on to be a parent, come what may…But I just didn't fully understand what Down Syndrome entailed."
The announcement by Jesse and Ashley, who revealed in March that they were expecting their first baby, sparked public backlash. A user wrote on X, "What kind of human being publicly announces his decision to kill his baby??? And then tries to rationalize it???? This is so deeply disturbing on every level. May God bless that sweet, innocent baby."
Many criticized them for sending the wrong message to people with Down syndrome. A netizen commented, "Imagine the message you are sending right now to every person with Down syndrome around the world. You are telling them that their lives are not worth living. You are telling them that if their existence is an inconvenience for someone else, that person should have the right to kill them. This is a horrific post, and I hope you come to see that someday soon.

Tennessee baseball announced on June 4 that it has fired pitching coach Josh Reynolds.
“I want to thank Josh Reynolds for his hard work and dedication to the Tennessee baseball program during his two seasons in Knoxville, but I have decided it’s best for our program to move in a different direction from a pitching standpoint at this time," coach Josh Elander said in a school release.
Reynolds spent two seasons with the Vols, first as director of baseball operations and pitching performance in 2025 before being promoted for Elander's first season as head coach in 2026. He replaced Frank Anderson, who followed former coach Tony Vitello to the San Francisco Giants when Vitello was hired as their manager in October 2025.

Sean has heard the question his entire high school career: What’s it like to have your dad as a coach? The answer is he loves it. Steve was a standout at Dominican University and runs a private baseball academy. Sean remembers being exposed to baseball growing up but not overly pushed in that direction.

Mitch Johnson reveals what crushed Spurs in NBA Finals opener originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
For much of Wednesday night, the San Antonio Spurs looked in control of Game 1. They built a double digit lead and forced New York to spend most of the evening playing from behind.
Every time the Knicks appeared ready to make a push, San Antonio found another answer. By the middle of the third quarter, the Spurs had stretched their advantage to 14 points.
That should have been enough to create real separation. Instead, New York remained close enough to keep believing. The reason appeared almost every time the Knicks missed a shot.
San Antonio would force a difficult possession. New York would miss. Then the possession continued when the Knicks grabbed another rebound.
