SEOUL, Aug 24 (Reuters) - South Korea's Defence Ministry said North Korea was continuing preparations for an additional troop deployment to Russia, but had detected no signs that such a deployment was imminent, according to a South Korean lawmaker's office.
The ****** sment came after North Korea's Kim Yo Jong, sister of leader Kim Jong Un, last week denied Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's claim that Pyongyang planned to send up to 50,000 more troops to Russia to fight for its ally.
South Korea's Defence Ministry said in a statement to lawmaker Yu Yong-weon that North Korea had continued to supply Russia with weapons systems, including short-range ballistic missiles, according to Yu's office.
North Korea is estimated to have supplied Russia with more than 15 million rounds of artillery ammunition, measured in 152-millimetre shell equivalents, it said.
The lawmaker's office, citing a South Korean Defense Intelligence Agency ****** sment, said North Korean missiles used in the war may have improved in accuracy through battlefield data, alongside Russian technical advice and component support.

MOSCOW, Aug 12 (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russia will respond in kind if European countries start to seize Russian merchant vessels and the commander of Russia's Pacific Fleet said his forces were ready to "inspect and detain" foreign vessels from what he called hostile states.
The comments, which Putin made as he oversaw navy drills in Russia's far east, come as the EU tries to ratchet up pressure on Russia's so-called shadow fleet, expanding sanctions against hundreds of vessels and detaining some ships and their crews for checks. Some European governments have said they are exploring tougher maritime enforcement measures against ships suspected of sanctions evasion.
"We can see that the authorities of certain countries, in violation of international maritime law, are attempting to restrict the movement of our economic operators' vessels..., and have recently gone so far as to consider the possibility of seizing our vessels and selling off the property they have plundered from us," Putin said.
"Naturally, this is nothing less than piracy and robbery. And if this begins to be put into practice, we shall be forced to respond in kind. And not necessarily in those waters where raids on our ships and vessels are planned, but wherever we ourselves deem it necessary and appropriate."

Aug 11 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump accused Iran of being "devious negotiators" in an interview released late on Monday and described some of his current options in the war — "just bop along" and let Tehran fail economically or hit them "really, really hard."
"I'm sort of negotiating," Trump told Real America's Voice in a phone interview. "They're very devious negotiators."
Since the conflict began in late February, Trump has repeatedly oscillated between threats of escalation and claims that a peace deal is imminent. Pakistan said on Tuesday the U.S. and Iran were close to "some sort" of deal, and Qatar said talks on managing the Strait of Hormuz were at an advanced stage, despite reports of new attacks on shipping in regional waters.
Trump described one of his possible strategies as: "Do what I'm doing now: just bop along and look how bad they're doing."
"Economically, they are a mess. They can't borrow money. We control their money, what they had, which is a lot. They had a lot, and we have total control of it. I'm their banker," he said, referring to frozen Iranian ******* ets.

Minnesota's flagship paper came under fire over the weekend after a columnist defended Democrat Gov. Tim Walz's reasoning for pardoning a foreign born man just before the convicted child rapist was set to be deported.
"The Minnesota Star Tribune is cheering on Tim Walz protecting an illegal alien monster who raped a 10 year old girl. No one should read this depraved rag. They are sick," said House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., on X.
Minnesota's Board of Pardons is composed of Walz, state Attorney General Keith Ellison and state Chief Justice Natalie Hudson. They voted on June 10 to grant clemency to Tou Lue Vang, a Laotian national who between 2002 and 2004 repeatedly raped a child. Lue was set to be deported from the United States before the clemency was issued.

A large anti-immigration poster, which includes pictures of NI politicians, has been placed on a bonfire next to a playground in north Belfast.
The image, prominently positioned on a bonfire on Shore Crescent, depicts a herd of sheep walking through a gate to a group of masked men armed with knives.
The banner, draped from the bonfire, also includes images of small boats and depictions of political parties Sinn Féin, SDLP, Alliance Party and People Before Profit.
A number of other anti-immigration slogans and images have also been prominently displayed at other bonfire sites across the city.
The poster in north Belfast says: "Open gates open borders open season. Your sheep their feast."

BEIJING, July 10 (Reuters) - China on Friday successfully tested an experimental rocket retrieval system using a net attached to a sea platform, state media reported, in the hope of breaking U.S. dominance in reusable rockets.
The Long March 10B rocket lifted off from the Hainan commercial ******* e launch site in southern China at 12:15 p.m. (0415 GMT) and, about six minutes after separation of its booster and upper stage, the booster returned vertically and was recovered on an offshore platform, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
The test marks China's first successful retrieval of an orbital-class rocket, putting the country closer to developing reusable rockets.
The rocket had sent a satellite into preset orbit on Friday, state media said.
Shares in Chinese aerospace firms jumped on the news, with China ******* esat and China Satellite Communications hitting daily limits.
