Bayer Leverkusen continued their perfect pre-season start with a 4-0 win over Belgian side Genk on Wednesday. Summer signing Afonso Moreira maintained his record of scoring in every game before providing the **** ist for the fourth goal.
Unlike their first two friendlies, Leverkusen played the game at their home ground for the youth teams, Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion. Jeanuel Belocian opened the scoring after Edmond Tapsoba's incisive through pass before fellow French defender Loïc Badé saw his perfect goal cancelled for an offside.
Nathan Tella doubled Leverkusen's advantage before the break, with the **** ist provided by Jonas Hofmann after Carles Martínez's boys won back possession in the final third. Before the Spaniard coach changed the entire lineup at the hour mark, Die Werkself added two quickfire second-half goals.
Former Lyon attacker Moreira scored his fourth pre-season goal with a clinical finish before a well-worked **** ist for Christian Kofane's goal a couple of minutes later. While Kerim Alajbegovic and Martin Terrier are standing at the exit door from the club, Moreira is showing more than enough quality to be trusted as the starting left winger ahead of the season start.
Meanwhile, Patrik Schick played his first pre-season minutes as he played alongside Victor Boniface in the scoreless last half an hour. Leverkusen will face 3. Liga side Rot-Weiss Essen in their next friendly game at Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion on August 1st.

With Al-Hilal paying €80m for Crysencio Summerville, Roma must turn to other targets, including Antonio Nusa, Diego Moreira and Andreas Schjelderup.
The Giallorossi's frustrating search for a striker to complete their trident attack goes on, as after losing out on Mason Greenwood to Fenerbahce, they thought that Summerville was in hand from West Ham United for €50m.

Instead, Simone Inzaghi's Al-Hilal dived in with today's proposal worth a reported €80m and tripled the salary on offer too, convincing the 24-year-old to join the Saudi Pro League.
Roma are again forced to start from scratch, and look down the list of candidates provided by coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Among their many objectives, Milan will rework their wings this summer and are ******* sing a few options, starting with Noussair Mazraoui, who already played for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, Matteo Moretto reports (via SOSFanta).
The chase is in its early stages. There have been no direct contacts between the two clubs for now. The player is under contract until 2028 with an option. The fullback headed to Old Trafford from Bayern Munich for €15M in 2024 and has accumulated 77 appearances, dishing out 3 ******* ists. He had started his career at Ajax.
Milan will eventually decide whether to bid for Mazraoui or target different players. In the meantime, they are open to selling Pervis Estupinan just a year after acquiring him for €20M. Aston Villa have shown some interest. Ideally, he’d leave for a similar fee.
According to TuttoSport, the Rossoneri are eyeing a right-footed specialist. Amorim might use Alexis Saelemaekers on the left flank. They could duel with Inter for Guéla Doué. They have tendered a five-year contract with a €2.5M salary. Rafik Belghali, who has been offered to several Serie A sides after Verona’s relegation, is among the cheaper alternatives. His price tag is €15M.
It’s not one of their most urgent needs, as Davide Bartesaghi is perfectly viable and Zachary Athekame eventually proved to be an okay backup, but they’ll obviously need an addition if they get rid of Estupinan without taking a bath, which is easier said than done. If they really want to blow their tactics up and have all wingers with inverted feet, they should go after an offensive-minded option like Doué’s teammate, Diego Moreira.

Roma is monitoring several potential transfer prospects.
The Giallorossi's priority is to strengthen their attacking lineup, and the main candidates are Nicolò Tresoldi and Alejandro Garnacho.
A move to the winger position will also be needed, and Diego Moreira is highly sought after for this position.
Roma, however, are also keen to strengthen their second strings in other areas, and Danilo Santos is among the names being considered for midfield.
The 2001-born Brazilian is certainly familiar to European football fans for his time at Nottingham Forest, but in recent years he has played for Botafogo. Now, a return to Europe could be a real possibility for him: the Giallorossi face plenty of competition.

Artem Dovbyk's career at Roma is drawing to a close, with the Ukrainian striker set to leave the Stadio Olimpico after two years. According to Calciomercato, Ajax have joined the race to sign the 29-year-old.
Roma dashed out €30.5 million plus €5.5 million in bonuses to secure Dovbyk's services in 2024. He was on fire at Girona, winning La Liga's Golden Boot award in the 2023/24 season, which made the Serie A giants believe he could be an answer to their scoring problems.
However, Dovbyk has never settled into life in Serie A. Last season was disappointing for the robust center-forward, as he made just 14 league appearances and scored three goals. Needless to say, he has fallen out of favor with manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
After being deemed surplus to requirements, he's now preparing to leave Roma. Despite his underwhelming year, the Giallorossi have slapped a €23 million price tag on his shoulders and seem unwilling to budge on their valuation.
With Donyell Malen joining the club on a permanent basis, Roma are keen to offload Dovbyk, especially now that they're pursuing several high-profile targets. In addition to Strasbourg starlet Diego Moreira, they've also set their sights on Chelsea outcast Alejandro Garnacho.

Roma's hottest incoming players are Alejandro Garnacho and Diego Moreira.
The former is on his way out of Chelsea, who are currently asking for €50 million, while the latter is owned by Strasbourg, and their asking price is also €50 million.
Negotiations are inevitably complex for the Giallorossi, but the demands could decrease over time.
Garnacho and Moreira are linked by a common thread, not only because Chelsea has a buyback clause for the Belgian full-back, but also because the English club and Strasbourg are owned by the same owner.
Both clubs are part of the US consortium BlueCo, led by entrepreneur Todd Boehly. Strasbourg is, in effect, the Blues' satellite club, where young talents arrive to be developed.

AS Roma are readying an offer for versatile RC Strasbourg Alsace winger Diego Moreira (21), according to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio.
It is expected to be a summer of transition at Strasbourg. Following the exit of Gary O'Neil, the Alsace club remain without a manager, whilst many key players are expected to depart. Emanuel Emegha has already left to join Chelsea, whilst another Blues target, Valentin Barco, has already announced his impending exit, even if his move to Stamford Bridge has yet to be officialised.
Moreira, so key over the course of the past two seasons, is also expected to depart. Earlier this summer, Borussia Dortmund were touted as a suitor, but the Bundesliga giants are not the only interested party in the winger, who can play full-back, wing-back, and on the wing on both sides.
Di Marzio understands that Roma are now preparing to bid €30m for the Belgium international. The bid would also include a 10% sell-on clause.

Roma is closing in on its key targets and attempting to close the first deal to satisfy Gasperini's demands, following the Greenwood deal's failure.
With Mendes directing the move, the Giallorossi are ready to submit their first offer to Strasbourg for Diego Moreira, the Belgian winger who starred at the World Cup.
A significant sum, but according to Sky Sport, there is still a clear gap between Roma's offer and Strasbourg's asking price.
Roma is ready to offer €30 million plus a 10% resale fee for the Belgian.
According to Di Marzio, Strasbourg wants as much as €50 million. As mentioned, Jorge Mendes is working to bring the two clubs closer together.

Fortaleza looks to return to the national top flightCredits: Leonardo Moreira / Fortaleza
The four teams relegated from Série A in 2025 are in very different situations in the current Série B season. The best of them so far is Fortaleza, in fourth place with 28 points. If the competition ended today, Leão do Pici would have to play in a playoff to try to earn promotion.
The same would apply to Juventude, in sixth place with 26 points. Série B in 2026 sends the two highest-point teams to Série A in 2027 at the end of the home-and-away schedule, while the other two spots are decided in playoffs among the teams finishing 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th.
Sport, in eighth place with 25 points, is right on the edge of the G6 and remains alive in its goal of returning to the top flight.
On the other hand, Ceará is not having a good campaign and needs to respond. In 17th place, in the relegation zone, with 17 points, Vozão can still make the G6, but first it has to focus on moving away from the bottom spots.

Roma has identified Diego Moreira as their priority target to strengthen their left-back line, fulfilling one of the three main requests made by coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
The 2004-born winger, currently owned by Strasbourg and playing in the World Cup with the Belgian national team, is a profile that already attracted the duo of the Giallorossi coach and sporting director Tony D'Amico during their time at Atalanta.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the French management has set a value of €40 million for the player, but Roma expects to be able to lower the asking price, given the player's popularity, who is eager to play in the Champions League and is ready to triple his current €800,000 seasonal salary.
The main obstacle for the Roman club is Chelsea, a club owned by the same holding company as Strasbourg (the BlueCo group) and boasting a buyback clause for the Belgian defender.
However, during recent discussions between Roma and the London club to evaluate Alejandro Garnacho, it emerged that the Blues have no intention of opposing the move to Italy, as they are currently focused on the acquisition of Pep Chavarría from Rayo Vallecano, at the suggestion of their coach Xabi Alonso.

Roma's transfer window continues to develop on the flanks as well.
In addition to strengthening their attack, the Giallorossi are working to identify a player capable of increasing the quality and depth of the left flank requested by Gian Piero Gasperini.
According to Il Messaggero, Diego Moreira remains one of the names being closely monitored by the Giallorossi management.
The Strasbourg winger is considered an ideal candidate due to his technical abilities and development prospects, but negotiations are shaping up to be anything but straightforward.
The French club, in fact, values the player at around €40 million, a figure deemed very high by Roma.

The United States Men’s National Team continues to advance at the 2026 World Cup, having taken down Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 by a 2-0 margin. The tournament field continues to narrow, and the opponents grow more daunting, with Belgium hoping to spoil the co-hosts’ party and advance to the quarterfinal. The European program is looking to improve on a third-place finish in 2018, which would be quite the welcome surprise well after a golden generation. Seattle, Washington’s Lumen Field – a 72,000-seat multi-purpose stadium with a temporary stitched natural grass surface – hosts the fixture.
This is the eighth all-time meeting between the two nations, with the USMNT carrying a 1-6-0 record and falling in the most recent match, a friendly defeat (2-5) in March. Ranked 10th internationally by FIFA, Belgium reached the World Cup by finishing atop UEFA’s Group J of qualifying with a 5-0-3 record, besting Wales, North Macedonia, Kazakhstan, and Liechtenstein. At the current competition, the Red Devils claimed Group G with draws against Egypt (1-1) and Iran (0-0) and a victory over New Zealand (5-1) before requiring extra time and a fortuitous penalty to top Senegal (3-2) in the Round of 32.
Rudi Garcia was appointed to lead the program in January 2025, his first international gig after leading a variety of club sides including Lille, Roma, Marseille, Lyon, Al Nassr, and Napoli. The 62-year-old Frenchman believes that his squad is “very driven” and “aiming high” with the capacity to “achieve great things.” He has praised the “oldies” in his group, defending them against treatment as “has-beens.”
Garcia named a 26-player roster for the World Cup. The Belgian Pro League is home to three of the call-ups, while seven talents are on the books of Premier League clubs, five compete in Ligue 1, and five can be found in Serie A. Notable absences include Michy Batshuayi, Loïs Openda, Matz Sels, and Malick Fofana.

Roma are seeking reinforcements on the flanks.
Celik's contract renewal will be made official in the coming days, but there's a need to raise the bar on the flanks occupied by the match.
Besides the former Lille player, the Giallorossi's most reliable winger is Wesley. Behind him are Rensch and Angelino, who is coming off a nightmare season due to physical issues that prevented him from playing for almost the entire season.
Roma, therefore, have set their sights on Strasbourg's Diego Moreira.
The left-back, born in 2004, is making his mark during the World Cup with Belgium. Garcia included him in the match against Senegal and was instrumental in the comeback that materialized in extra time.

Cape Verde arrive at Miami Stadium on Sunday looking to build on one of the most celebrated results in their nation’s sporting history.
The Blue Sharks produced a disciplined, resolute defensive display to hold European champions Spain to a goalless draw on their World Cup debut. Bubista earned widespread praise for a tactical masterclass that confounded even the most optimistic pre-match expectations. That performance has fuelled belief within the camp that they can frustrate South American heavyweights Uruguay and extend their unbeaten run in North America.
Bubista has a largely fit squad available and is expected to name an unchanged side from the XI that impressed against Spain. The one concern is Jovane Cabral, who faces a late fitness test ahead of kick-off. If he does not come through, Bubista has options from the bench.
Vozinha starts in goal once more. The 40-year-old produced seven saves to deny Spain and has become one of the tournament’s most talked-about figures overnight. Diney Borges and Roberto Lopes continue at centre-back, with Steven Moreira and Sidny Lopes Cabral as the wide defenders.
Kevin Lenini and Laros Duarte form the midfield base, with Jamiro Monteiro providing energy in the more advanced central role. Ryan Mendes provides experience and flair from the right, with Jovane Cabral expected on the opposite flank if he clears his fitness test. Dailon Livramento leads the line as the sole striker.

Bayer Leverkusen has officially announced the signing of Afonso Moreira, who joins from French first-division club Olympique Lyon.
The Portuguese U-21 international has signed a contract with the Bundesliga club from the Rhineland until 30 June, 2031.
Last year in France, the left winger made 37 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing eleven ***** ists.
"Afonso Moreira is a fast, agile, and skillful striker with a good finishing ability and excellent vision," said sporting director Simon Rolfes.
"His pace and intense style of play are a perfect fit for our team. With Afonso, we gain additional firepower and creativity in attack.

Having overcome the obstacle of the settlement agreement with UEFA, which must be respected by June 30th, Roma will move forward with the acquisitions needed to strengthen Gasperini’s squad.
The Grugliasco-born coach needs to raise the level of the attacking department with forwards who can support Malen, also in terms of scoring goals.
Roma’s dream remains Greenwood.
At the opposite end, however, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mathys Tel’s stock is rising. The arrivals of Savinho and Guirassy would convince De Zerbi to sell the 2005-born player. Tottenham are considering it.
In recent weeks, Roma has inquired about Strasbourg’s Diego Moreira, who was offered to the club by intermediaries, but the French club is aiming high: they’d need around €40 million to sign the Belgian.

If you missed it, mighty powerful Spain just got stopped, goalless, against the small, once-Portuguese territory and island of Cape Verde, one of the very few nations that shares Portuguese with Brazilians as their native tongue. On its side, several players who, while not born in the territory, are allowed to represent those nations due to the complicated history of citizenship and origin.
Steven Moreira is one of many MLS players competing in this year's World Cup. He plays for the Columbus Crew and has anchored the team's defense over the past year, making him one of the better fullbacks in the league, as seen today against the likes of Lamine Yamal. A surreal defensive ******* ignment, I'm sure Moreira could have never seen it coming, years ago, when he arrived in Columbus, Ohio. And with former MLS journeyman Jamiro Monteiro coming in as a substitute, Cape Verde did the unlikely and held the former World Champs to a 0-0 draw in the opening game.
Major League Soccer will have a record 44 active players competing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the most players from any league in the Western Hemisphere. MLS has the second-most outside of Europe's big five leagues — English Premier League, Germany's Bundesliga, France's Ligue 1, Spain's La Liga, and Italy's Serie A.
19 players at this summer's FIFA World Cup 2026 will have spent time in MLS NEXT Pro, the league's developmental tier.
With this milestone, the US league surpasses Liga MX and becomes the league with the most players in the Western Hemisphere. This includes the Brasileirão, the Argentinian league, and any other league in the Western hemisphere.
