According to the Wall Street Journal, Google is relocating its AI responsibility unit from Google DeepMind to its global affairs division, the part of the company that handles lobbying and public policy.
The roughly 90-person team — whose work includes evaluating Google's AI models for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards and examining user behavior and the psychological effects of chatbots — is set to complete the transition at the beginning of September, the Journal reported after reviewing an internal email about the shift. Some employees on the team have raised concerns that the reassignment will limit their independence and reduce their access to the researchers developing Google's Gemini models.
Helen King, a vice president at Google DeepMind who runs the responsibility team, sought to reassure staff in the email, writing that the team's focus on emerging and frontier topics in responsible AI would remain unchanged and that publishing research externally "continues to be supported and important." King added that the team's access to DeepMind would be preserved, along with its computing infrastructure and staffing levels.
"Many teams across Google work on AI safety and responsibility, and by bringing our AI responsibility teams closer together we're strengthening their ability to inform safety for our models and products," a Google spokesperson said in a statement.
The shift is part of broader organizational changes that are integrating DeepMind more tightly with the rest of Google. According to the Journal, functions such as HR and policy are similarly being transferred from DeepMind to Google's central organization. The reorganization follows a leadership change in which DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis stepped aside from his CEO role into a new chairman position focused on external engagements. Koray Kavukcuoglu has taken over as head of DeepMind with the **** le of senior vice president.

On August 20, Futu Holdings Limited (NASDAQ:FUTU) reported the strongest quarter in its history, with trading volume pushing past HK$6 trillion for the first time. Buried inside those numbers, though, is a reminder that the company's oldest and largest client base isn't as untouchable as it once looked, with **** et outflows tied to new compliance rules. The result is a business firing on nearly every cylinder except the one investors have relied on the longest.
Futu's headline numbers back up the enthusiasm. Total revenue climbed 35.6% year over year to HK$7.2 billion, while net income jumped 41.6% to HK$3.6 billion, pushing net margin to 50.6%. Total trading volume rose 78.8% year over year to a record HK$6.42 trillion, with U.S. stock trading volume up 67.2% sequentially to HK$5.02 trillion as clients piled into semiconductor and artificial intelligence names. Client **** ets grew even faster than trading activity, up 43.6% year over year to HK$1.4 trillion, and margin financing and securities lending balances jumped 85.1% to HK$95.1 billion as an active Hong Kong IPO market encouraged clients to lean on leverage.
The growth isn't confined to trading. Net new funded accounts rose 23.7% year over year to 252,000, led by Malaysia, where the business reached operating breakeven for the first time. Futu also picked up a Type A securities license from Thailand's regulator, its third market launch in the ASEAN region, and became the first Hong Kong broker approved for securities-backed margin financing tied to virtual **** ets under an upgraded Type 1 license. In the U.S., moomoo's newly launched prediction markets generated more than $200 million in trade volume in their first month, while Futu's IPO business served nearly 60% of new Hong Kong listings during the quarter.
Not every part of the story is expanding. Chairman Leaf Li acknowledged that **** ulative **** et outflows tied to new regulations came to a mid-single-digit percentage of total client **** ets, the result of compliance-driven adjustments and risk-off sentiment among the company's Mainland Chinese clients. Growth is also getting more expensive to buy. Customer acquisition cost rose sequentially to HK$2,600 as new regulatory developments weighed on net new funded accounts.
Profitability showed some strain too, with gross margin slipping to 86.3% from 87.4% a year earlier as processing and cloud service fees increased, while operating expenses rose 35.1% year over year as research and development, selling and marketing, and general administrative costs all climbed on investments in AI, Web 3 initiatives, and international expansion. Even the brokerage business had a trade-off, as blended commission rates fell because a larger share of trading shifted into lower-margin U.S. stocks and options.

The preseason finale for the Las Vegas Raiders and San Francisco 49ers is here, and both teams have made headlines for drastically different things.
The Raiders secured the No. 1 overall pick and drafted quarterback Fernando Mendoza. In limited action, the rookie has at times looked the part, and also has shown there's still a ways to go. That much is evident and has led the Raiders to decide they'll give the QB1 job to Kirk Cousins until Mendoza is ready to go.
When Mendoza is ready to go, however, is anyone's guess. The Raiders are determined to slow-play it with their passer of the future, leading to questions of when the passer will make his Sunday debut this season.
The 49ers have eyes on a Lombardi Trophy once again, but they've had to navigate some off-the-field distractions throughout training camp, an inauspicious start to their season. First, it was Kyle Shanahan's car accident and the questions that persisted. In the month that followed, principal owner Jed York was arrested.
In between, the 49ers lost wide receiver Ricky Pearsall to a knee injury, Mike Evans dealt with ****** ps and bruises and substation conspiracy theories resurfaced.

Liverpool are nearing an agreement to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain with a transfer at the final stages.
Barcola has been Liverpool's leading transfer target throughout the summer as the Reds look to strengthen a forward line depleted by Mohamed Salah's exit and Hugo Ekitike's long-term Achilles injury.
Paris Saint-Germain's massive asking price for Barcola has stalled a deal, with Liverpool reluctant to meet the initial £145m asking price. However, progress has been made in negotiations andFabrizio Romano has claimed that a deal is now at the 'final stages' after discussions between both boards.
Barcola has made clear his desire to move to thePremier League and join Liverpool, as he searches for a more prominent role.
The 23-year-old's minutes were limited in the latter stages as PSG defended the Champions League last season, due to competition from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue.

Bukayo Saka's performance in ****** nal's impressive opening-day win has already convinced some fans the Gunners are going to defend their Premier League crown.
The 24-year-old's game-time for the north London outfit was managed at the end of last season, as well as with England at the World Cup, because of an Achilles injury he picked up in March.
Saka missed the March international break and seven games for the Gunners, but returned to help them lift the Premier League ****** le for the first time in 22 years.
The winger was then taken off during the Champions League final as ****** nal lost to Paris-St Germain in Budapest and his performance was criticised.
England boss Thomas Tuchel also limited his minutes during the World Cup, but asked if he found it frustrating being judged while not 100% fit, Saka said it was a "gamble" he was willing to take.

The San Francisco 49ers are adding reinforcements on their defensive line before their preseason finale vs. the Las Vegas Raiders.
According to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, the 49ers and edge rusher Jah Joyner agreed to a deal that will bring Joyner to the Bay Area for the final few days of the 49ers' preseason. Joyner tried out for the 49ers on Wednesday. There's no word yet on a corresponding move which the 49ers will have to make to keep their roster at the 90-player limit.
San Francisco is thin at defensive end with Nick Bosa sidelined by knee tendinitis and rookie Romello Height working through an ankle issue. If the 49ers are going to rest players that figure to be key contributors on their 90-man roster, they may be even thinner Thursday night when they take on the Las Vegas Raiders. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if both Keion White and Sam Okuayinonu were among the players not suiting up for the 49ers.
This marks the second defensive end the 49ers have added in the final week of the preseason. They also signed former Dallas Cowboys fourth-round pick Viliami Fehoko. Joyner will get Thursday's game, and then as many as three practices to make his case to stick around as a practice squad candidate.
Joyner is with the UFL's Houston Gamblers after being released by the Dallas Renegades in March. His only NFL experience came last offseason with the Las Vegas Raiders where he landed as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 draft. He was let go at final cuts and never signed to another NFL club.

The Red Sox had won five straight. They committed four errors.
Red Sox star catcher Audley Rutschman missed his second straight game because of right elbow irritation.

Patrick Mahomes may be forced to limit his phone time due to bad service during training camp, but there's one person he always makes sure to text — his wife, Brittany Mahomes.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, 30, revealed his communication priorities during a press conference on Tuesday, August 25, while discussing Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz, whom Mahomes previously praised for helping him through his ACL recovery.
"St. Joe's dorm rooms, man, you don't get a lot of text messages," Mahomes joked, referring to the rooms at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo., where the Chiefs hold training camp. But Brittany, 30, is the exception.
"I just try to make sure I text Brittany," he added. "If I text Brittany, I'm usually in a good spot."

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Padres fans and fans across the country.
It has been a season of opportunity for some of the players on the San Diego Padres roster. Some of those players have taken full advantage of their opportunity and that could result in more playing time, higher expectations or in some cases more money.
France signed with the Padres in the offseason on a minor league deal. He was promised nothing but an opportunity to make the team and the Gold Glove Award winner did that out of Spring Training. There was a time where he and Gavin Sheets and Nick Castellanos were all expected to share time at first base and France was thought to possibly be the odd man out. His play turned not only allowed him to outlast Castellanos on the San Diego roster, but it also cemented him into the No. 4 hole in the lineup. France has performed on defense and has provided production at the plate. He has 344 at-bats with 99 hits, 18 of which were home runs, for a .288 average. France also has 56 RBI, 44 runs scored and has even stolen a base.
Campusano finally got some regular playing time under new Padres manager Craig Stammen. The catcher finally had a manager who was going to allow him to play free and play often without the fear of being sent back to the minors the first time he hit a slump or failed to block a ball in the dirt. Campusano has responded with a solid season in which he has amassed 143 at-bats with 41 hits, five home runs, 23 RBI and 18 runs scored. He holds a .287 average on the season and has been able to catch and serve as the designated hitter throughout the season.
Buehler, like France, was only promised an opportunity. He got more of a chance than he thought when Joe Musgrove was unable to be ready to return to the mound following Tommy John surgery and Nick PIvetta went down with arm issues early in the season. Randy Vasquez started the season strong but quickly faded. Buehler has had some duds this season, but overall, he has been a consistent starter for a team that was limited to Michael King in terms of pitchers who could take the mound and instill confidence in the team and the fanbase. Buehler has appeared in and started 26 games in 2026. He has a record of 8-6 with a 4.63 ERA. He has thrown 126.1 innings and has 108 strikeouts over that span. He is 3-1 in his last seven games with a 2.89 ERA and has only gotten better as the regular season winds down.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Atlanta Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who joined team drills for the first time on Monday, will not play in the team's final preseason game at Miami on Friday night.
The decision could have strong implications on Penix being available for the start of the regular season. The much-anticipated competition between Tua Tagovailoa and Penix for the starting job was put on hold through much of training camp as Penix continued his recovery from his 2025 season-ending injury to his left knee. Penix was limited to seven-on-seven and individual drills before his first 11-on-11 work this week.
Though Penix will not have played in any of the team's three preseason games, Stefanski insisted he was encouraged by the quarterback's progress.
"I thought he did well," Stefanski said of Penix's performance in practice on Wednesday. "I thought he looked good. He moved around well. I think all that work, like I've told you guys the whole time, and you've seen it with your own eyes, like he's put a lot of work into this. I think you see that in his getting away from center, making throws, etc."
Stefanski said Tagovailoa will start at Miami, followed by Cooper Rush and undrafted rookie Jack Strand.

Lowe's Companies, Inc. (NYSE:LOW) delivered an earnings beat alongside weak organic growth and a reduced outlook. Second-quarter total sales increased approximately 8.3% to $25.96 billion, supported by acquisitions, but organic comparable sales rose just 0.2%, below the 0.8% expected. Diluted earnings were $4.27 per share. Company-defined adjusted diluted earnings, a non-GAAP measure, reached $4.40 per share and exceeded the $4.22 FactSet consensus estimate. Results also included a $0.11-per-share benefit from tariff refunds. Management reduced its full-year sales forecast to $92 billion and now expects comparable sales to be approximately flat. Still, the shares reversed a premarket decline and closed 2.0% higher at $220 on August 19. For Lowe's Companies, Inc. (NYSE:LOW), the question is whether contractor demand can cushion the combined pressure from weak DIY spending and subdued housing activity.
The operating split was clear. Pro, online, and home services growth helped Lowe's Companies, Inc. (NYSE:LOW) produce a fifth consecutive quarter of positive comparable sales. Online sales increased nearly 16%, while contractors and repair-and-maintenance projects supported demand. Acquisitions expanded the reported revenue base but are excluded from the comparable-sales calculation, making the 0.2% organic increase the better measure of underlying momentum.
The weaker side extends beyond the consumer. Lowe's Companies, Inc. (NYSE:LOW) said persistent pressure on discretionary DIY spending partly offset its stronger categories. The revised outlook also incorporated softer housing trends affecting Foundation Building Materials and Artisan Design Group, particularly their residential-construction exposure. Consumers continue prioritizing necessary repairs while postponing larger projects, and weak housing turnover is also limiting construction and renovation activity.
Lowe's Companies, Inc. (NYSE:LOW) is getting support from customers whose spending is less discretionary than a kitchen remodel or major outdoor project. Pro demand, home services, and online growth provide several ways to capture repair, maintenance, and contractor spending while DIY customers remain cautious. The adjusted earnings beat shows that profitability held up better than organic sales, even after accounting for the tariff-refund benefit. If lower mortgage rates eventually revive housing turnover, these businesses could provide a stronger base for renewed DIY and construction demand.

Kameron Johnson gave the Tampa Bay Buccaneers another encouraging look at what he can bring to the return game Saturday night, showing the type of burst and explosiveness that can make him a difference-maker throughout the 2026 season. Johnson had one kickoff return against the Kansas City Chiefs, taking it 20 yards to the Kansas City 31-yard line and giving Tampa Bay solid starting field position. He also added two punt returns for 24 yards.
The numbers weren't overwhelming, but the flashes were there. Johnson looked decisive with the football in his hands and showed the ability to get north quickly rather than spending too much time searching for an opening. In 2025, he averaged 25.4 yards on 27 kickoff returns and 11.2 yards on 26 punt returns. He also produced Tampa Bay's two longest kick returns of the season, going for 37 and 44 yards, while earning NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
His work against Kansas City was also encouraging because of his offensive contributions. Johnson caught four passes for 56 yards, including a 22-yard reception, while showing that his ability with the ball isn't limited to special teams. He was involved early, catching an 11-yard pass from Jake Browning before later hauling in a 22-yard completion in the third quarter. That combination could make Johnson particularly useful for Tampa Bay. His primary job is returning kicks and punts, but if he continues showing that kind of ability as a receiver, the Buccaneers have another way to get him involved without asking him to become a major part of the offense. If Johnson can consistently turn returns into positive field position while making occasional plays on offense, his value to the Buccaneers could extend well beyond what the traditional returner role offers.

A former fan-favorite NFL event has been eliminated.
The Pro Bowl, formerly a tackle game, and more recently, a flag football and ***** orted competition event, will be discontinued, the NFL said in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon.
Instead of a flag football game, the NFL will try to elevate the status of what it means to be elected a Pro Bowler. There will be 88 players selected and no replacement selections with players, coaches and fans each continuing to account for one-third of the voting.
In recent years, it became increasingly common for the NFL's top names (Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, among other stars) to decline their Pro Bowl invitations, resulting in players such as Tyler Huntley and Shedeur Sanders earning invitations to participate in the annual football game, which made the event feel less meaningful. Instead, the NFL plans to make the honor something worth celebrating again.
"By limiting the honor to the 88 players originally selected, the Pro Bowl presented by Verizon will return its focus squarely to recognizing the league's most outstanding performers, reinforcing the significance of an achievement held in especially high regard by players themselves," the statement continued. "As part of that focus, the NFL will no longer stage an AFC vs. NFC Pro Bowl game. Instead, the league will place greater emphasis on the moment a player is selected, the recognition that accompanies that distinction and bringing the Pro Bowl presented by Verizon class together to celebrate the achievement."

Opera Limited (NASDAQ:OPRA) moved its second-quarter earnings release from August 25 to August 19, focusing attention on whether another guidance increase is coming. First-quarter revenue rose 23% to $175.8 million, while adjusted EBITDA increased 30% to $42.0 million. Both exceeded the company's guidance, and the shares gained 5.3% following the report.
The financial momentum has been accompanied by faster adoption in valuable Western markets. Opera Limited (NASDAQ:OPRA) said combined MAUs for its Android and iOS browsers increased 66% year over year in the U.K. and 40% in the U.S. during the second quarter. Its built-in AI can search, answer questions, and generate content without requiring users to leave the browser.
The question is whether Opera Limited (NASDAQ:OPRA) is building a durable AI-browser franchise or simply finding better ways to monetize traffic through advertising and search partners.
Opera Limited (NASDAQ:OPRA) entered the second quarter with encouraging operating leverage. Average monthly active users reached 288 million in the first quarter, up four million sequentially, while annualized revenue per user increased 25% year over year to $2.43. Adjusted EBITDA grew faster than revenue, and free cash flow from operations nearly tripled to $35.5 million.
Opera Limited (NASDAQ:OPRA) also raised its full-year outlook after exceeding first-quarter guidance. The company projected revenue of $727 million to $740 million and adjusted EBITDA of $170 million to $174 million. Its second-quarter forecast called for revenue growth of 23% to 25% and adjusted EBITDA of $40 million to $42 million, equivalent to a 23% margin at the midpoints.

Beloved British actor Tim Curry has died aged 80.
A cause of death was not immediately available, though Curry had suffered from several health issues since a severe stroke in 2012 left him unable to walk.
Best known for his role as Frank-N-Furter, the "sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania", in the cult musical comedy The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), Curry was considered one of the most charismatic performers of his generation.
Born in Cheshire, England, on 19 April 1946, Curry began his professional acting career in a 1968 West End production of the rock musical Hair shortly after graduating from the University of Birmingham.
He followed that up with roles in stage performances of Shakespeare, Brecht and Stoppard, before the subversive camp classic Rocky Horror launched him to worldwide stardom. It is still considered a classic of musical cinema and continues to run in limited release to this day, making it the longest-running film release of all time.

Aug 26 (Reuters) - Meta Platforms agreed to pay a maximum $16.68 billion as part of a settlement to resolve claims brought by states across the country that the company designed Facebook and Instagram to addict children, misled consumers about their safety, and improperly collected personal data ‌of children who used its platforms, court papers show.
The settlement was reached during a California federal trial over claims brought by 29 states, ‌averting one of the highest-profile tests yet of allegations that social media companies harmed young users.
Meta also agreed to make changes for teenage users of Facebook and Instagram nationwide, including daily usage limits and nighttime blocks, court papers show.
The Menlo Park, California-based company denied wrongdoing in agreeing to settle.
Shares of Meta rose 4.4% in pre-market trading.

Lamar Jackson's rushing ability has always been one of the biggest headaches for opposing defenses, however, after injuries limited that part of his game last season, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback is making it clear that he won't force anything just to chase rushing numbers.
That does not mean Jackson plans to stay in the pocket, with a healthy offseason behind him and a new offense with the Ravens, his latest comments leave the door wide open for another version of "Action Jackson" in 2026.

He finished 2025 with career lows across the board as a runner, recording just 67 carries for 349 yards and 2 touchdowns while missing four games. Injuries, including a hamstring issue, played a major role in that decline, and Jackson admitted he simply wasn't able to run the way he wanted.
When asked whether he expects to run more this season, Jackson did not put a number on it. Instead, he gave an answer that says plenty about his approach.

Norway's energy major Equinor hopes to make a "pretty big" oil discovery offshore Namibia, the global exploration hotspot it has just entered, a senior company official said on Tuesday.
Equinor hopes that the Petroleum Exploration License 90 (PEL 90) offshore Namibia could hold a big discovery similar to those TotalEnergies and Galp have made in recent years in the same Orange basin, Philippe Mathieu, Executive Vice President, Exploration & Production International, at Equinor, told reporters on the sidelines of an energy conference in Norway's city of Stavanger.
A week ago, the Norwegian oil and gas major entered the Namibian exploration rush by signing an agreement with Harmattan Energy Limited, a Chevron subsidiary in Namibia, to buy a 17.4% participating interest in Petroleum Exploration License 90 (PEL 90) in the Orange Basin offshore Namibia.
The deal with the U.S. supermajor marks Equinor's entry into Namibia, and the license provides access to a drill-ready prospect scheduled for testing in 2026, the Norwegian company said last week.
"This transaction aligns with our strategy to strengthen and replenish our international portfolio through focused and disciplined growth," Mathieu said last week.

The NFL is expanding the mental health resources available to players and their families.
Beginning Sept. 1, NFL players and any family members on their insurance plan will gain access to a network of vetted clinicians in every NFL city. Players can use these resources, in addition to in-house clinicians, without visit limits or coinsurance requirements, NFL vice president of wellness and clinical services Dr. Nyaka NiiLampti told Yahoo Sports.
The network launch comes in the wake of a spring announcement by the league to increase mental health resources in three tiers following the deaths by suicide of Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Rondale Moore last November and February, respectively.
The league announced in March that it was increasing its in-house clinical presence to require teams to staff full-time mental health clinicians, up from the previous requirement that teams staff clinicians at least eight to 12 hours a week as mandated by the NFL-NFLPA collective bargaining agreement. The NFL also has sought to increase efforts to support the mental health of players battling injuries, as Moore had in the years prior to his death. And the NFL and NFLPA partnered with Cigna Healthcare to create this network.
"Historically the sense was that players don't use mental health resources," NiiLampti told Yahoo Sports by phone on Tuesday. "Sports is a microcosm of society. So in the last few years we've seen everybody increase their use of mental health resources and this population is no different. And so we've probably had more difficulties trying to find a provider than we have had people willing to use the resource.

The Cleveland Browns appear poised to make a difficult decision at quarterback, with Dillon Gabriel emerging as a potential casualty of a crowded position group. The former third-round pick faces an uncertain future as the team weighs its depth chart and prepares for the 2026 season.
Gabriel entered the NFL with significant expectations after Cleveland selected him in the third round of the 2025 draft. However, his standing within the organization has changed as competition has intensified, leaving him in a difficult position heading into final roster decisions.
Sep 14, 2025; Baltimore, Maryland, USA; Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel (8) drops back to pass during the second half against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Peter Casey-Imagn Images
The biggest obstacle is the number of quarterbacks competing for limited roster spots. Gabriel has reportedly fallen behind Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders, while rookie Taylen Green has added another young option to the equation, making it increasingly difficult for Cleveland to justify keeping everyone.
The situation became even more complicated after the Browns made their decision regarding the starting quarterback. With Watson positioned to receive the starting opportunity and Sanders also ahead of Gabriel, the former Oregon standout could find himself without a clear path to meaningful playing time in Cleveland.

Home Alone 2 actor Tim Curry died on Tuesday, August 25.
According to TMZ, Curry's health was on the decline for over a decade before his death at the age of 80. The Hollywood star died at his Los Angeles home. No cause of death has yet been revealed for the revered actor.
In 2025, Curry shared with The Hollywood Reporter that he was still unable to walk following a near-fatal stroke in 2012.
"I still can't walk, which is why I'm in this silly chair, and that's very limiting. So I won't be singing, and I won't be dancing very soon. I still have real problems with my left leg," he shared at a screening for the 50th anniversary of the 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, in which he starred alongside Susan Sarandon.
Curry often displayed his knack for musical theater in his roles, including playing Rooster Hannigan in the 1982 film adaptation of Annie, as well as several Broadway productions, such as Monty Python's Spamalot, My Favorite Year, and Hair.

Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT) has agreed to pay $670 million to settle claims involving about 2,000 people who alleged that its specialized preterm infant formulas contributed to necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a serious and potentially fatal bowel disease affecting premature infants. The settlement also resolves Abbott's appeal of a $495 million verdict involving an Illinois mother, after that judgment was upheld by a Missouri appeals court. Abbott did not admit liability and continues to maintain that its products are safe.
The bigger issue for investors is that the settlement does not fully end the litigation. Abbott says claims from as many as 12,700 people remain, although that figure includes duplicate and unsupported claims as well as cases where it is unclear which manufacturer's formula was used. More than 825 federal cases are consolidated in Chicago, with additional cases pending in state courts.
That makes the settlement both a cost and a potential step toward reducing uncertainty around the litigation.
The strongest argument for Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT) is that the $670 million settlement could put a meaningful portion of the legal risk behind the company. Rather than continuing to spend years fighting individual cases and risking additional large jury awards, Abbott has chosen to settle with a sizable group of plaintiffs. The company said the agreement is intended to substantially resolve the broader litigation.
There is also an important distinction between the products involved in the lawsuits and Abbott's broader nutrition business. The litigation concerns specialized formulas and products used for premature infants in hospitals, rather than the ordinary infant formulas sold through stores. That limits the direct exposure of Abbott's wider consumer nutrition portfolio.

Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) has launched a HK$80 billion ($10.2 billion) Hong Kong share placement to fund its artificial intelligence ambitions. The company plans to use all of the proceeds to strengthen its "full-stack" AI capabilities, including computing infrastructure, chips, and AI model development. The placement was reportedly oversubscribed, indicating strong institutional demand for the offering.
The timing of the capital raise is important. Alibaba recently reported a 75% year-over-year decline in quarterly net profit, while capital expenditures jumped 75% to RMB67.68 billion. At the same time, its AI Cloud and Compute Services revenue rose 45% to RMB48.44 billion. This shows the trade-off investors are currently facing: Alibaba is spending heavily on AI, which is pressuring near-term profitability, but the investment is also producing strong growth in its cloud business.
The strongest argument for Alibaba Group Holding Limited (NYSE:BABA) is that its AI investment is already translating into meaningful business growth. AI Cloud and Compute Services revenue increased 45% in the latest quarter, while revenue from AI-related products continued to record triple-digit growth. This suggests that Alibaba is not simply spending money on an unproven technology; it is seeing growing demand for its AI and cloud offerings.
The additional $10.2 billion could allow Alibaba to accelerate this growth. The company has the advantage of operating across several parts of the AI ecosystem, including cloud computing, AI models, chips and infrastructure. Building these capabilities together could help it capture more value as businesses increasingly adopt AI.
The capital raise also gives Alibaba additional financial flexibility as it pursues its long-term AI strategy. The company had already committed substantial funds to AI and cloud infrastructure, and the latest offering allows it to continue investing without relying entirely on internally generated cash.

The U.S. Postal Service unveiled new requirements for mail ballots less than two weeks before some states begin sending them and in time for the conservative majority of the Supreme Court to clear the way for President Donald Trump's executive order limiting the method to be used in November's elections.
The provisions are still subject to additional legal challenges and may not go into effect in time to meet the tight deadline to change procedures for the midterm elections. They would forbid the Postal Service from sending mail ballots from any state that does not comply with Trump's order and would require an overhaul of the envelopes containing the ballots.
Despite the high court's initial clearance of the order, it did not decide on the constitutionality of the new regulation— only on whether the challenge was premature when Democratic-controlled states persuaded a federal judge in Boston to suspend them in June. A second ruling from the same judge would prevent the Postal Service from implementing any procedural changes before this year's midterms and would likely need to be nullified, as well.
Time is running out for the administration to make any changes in the nation's voting procedures. The first mail ballots are required to be sent to military and overseas voters from North Carolina on Sept. 4. At that point, it would be virtually impossible for all states to alter the formatting of their mail ballots to comply with Trump's directive. The Postal Service rule also requires states to submit voter lists in order to get their mail ballots delivered.
The Postal Service said it could not comment on its rule given the litigation.

In ancient legend, 300 Spartan warriors held the narrow pass at Thermopylae against a vast, overwhelming force, relying on a critical bottleneck to offset impossible odds. Today, America's energy security is facing its own fateful "300" moment, fought thousands of feet beneath the Gulf Coast.
As crude inventories in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve drain toward their operational limits, America is left, armed with just 300 million barrels. This dwindling buffer forces the nation into a high-stakes standoff against the uncompromising laws of fluid dynamics, immense geological forces, strict federal statutes, and relentless geopolitical pressure.
The SPR is a subsurface engineering marvel. Spanning 60 massive underground salt caverns across four storage sites in Texas and Louisiana, the system holds a combined authorized capacity of 714 million barrels. These solution-mined cavities are gigantic, often 300 feet wide and 2,000 feet tall, large enough to stack the Empire State Building inside.
Because these caverns operate entirely on a liquid displacement system, they can never be left empty. If the fluids were removed without replacement, the immense geological weight of the overlying earth would cause the salt domes to collapse inward like a crushed shield. Consequently, the total volume of fluid inside the reserve must be permanently maintained at 714 million barrels. However, the actual crude oil inventory tells a sobering story. The crude oil volume currently stands at approximately 293 million barrels. The remainder is entirely heavy salt brine used to push the oil out. Operating below this 300-million-barrel threshold pushes the aging infrastructure into uncharted and hazardous territory.
According to the Department of Energy, the absolute physical minimum crude oil inventory is approximately 70 million barrels. This cushion is required at the very top of the caverns to keep the extraction pipes safely submerged in oil rather than the underlying water. But while 70 million barrels is the structural floor where the salt rock might physically hold together, the practical operational floor is much higher, around 250 million barrels.

1531 ET – Oil futures lose ground after six straight sessions of gains as the U.S. launched a plan to sanction countries or companies that do business with Iran. “The immediate measures look less dramatic than the rhetoric,” Jorge Leon, Rystad Energy’s head of geopolitical **** ysis, says in a note. Iranian oil exports are already down with the U.S. blockade and unless China reduces purchases further, the additional impact on Iranian oil revenues could be limited. “The biggest oil-market risk may not be the sanctions themselves, but Iran’s response to them,” he says. “Iran still has considerable capacity to disrupt everybody else’s exports.” WTI settles down 2.4% at $85.01 a barrel and Brent falls 2.4% to $92.17. Zillow and Redfin have reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and five states, ending a legal fight over a 2025 partnership that the FTC claimed hurt competition in the rental-listing market. The settlement was announced on Monday, just as the case was scheduled to head toward trial this morning.
The case stems from a deal announced last year in which Redfin agreed to display Zillow's rental listings on its websites rather than compete directly with Zillow for rental advertisers. The arrangement could have kept Redfin out of the rental advertising business for as long as nine years. Redfin owns Rent.com and ApartmentGuide.com, two major rental-listing platforms.
According to the FTC and attorneys general from Arizona, Connecticut, New York, Virginia, and Washington, Zillow agreed to pay Redfin $100 million to keep Redfin from competing with Zillow.
The companies defended the partnership as a way to give renters access to a larger pool of listings. The FTC, however, argued that Zillow was paying one of its largest competitors to stop competing, potentially allowing the company to charge higher prices and provide less favorable terms to property managers. It could have also reduced the quality of rental listings available to consumers.
Under the proposed settlement, Redfin will be required to reenter the rental advertising business. The order also removes restrictions that previously limited Redfin's ability to compete independently for property-management customers.

Brighton face Norwegian side Tromso in the second leg of their Conference League play-off tie on Thursday following a goalless draw 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle last week.
Seagull boss Fabian Hurzeler has a big decision to make on whether he should start a strong team just three days before his side play away at Chelsea. His side are huge favourites to make it through to the League Phase of the competition but won't want to be on the end of an embarrassing upset in their search for a first major trophy in the club's history.
Both former Seagulls players Warren Aspinall and Guy **** ers believe Hurzeler should go strong against their Norwegian counterparts.
Speaking on the Albion Unlimited podcast, Aspinall said: "Get the job done and put the strongest side out. See if we can get a few goals in the first half then take players off. Man for man we're better than them. As a team, we're better than them but never underestimate them because they should've won that game at home.
"It'll be completely different at the Amex with our crowd. I **** ume they will bring a good following but we should be beating Tromso. It's a massive game for the football club. Six extra games in Europe, financially as well, so I think he has to go very strong."

Roberto De Zerbi is at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush is set to undergo a medical at Tottenham Hotspur today ahead of finalising his move to North London, according to Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath.
Tottenham have reached a full verbal agreement with Manchester City for the Egyptian international. The deal is structured as an initial season-long loan with a conditional obligation to buy for £50 million. With personal terms already agreed, Marmoush has travelled to London to complete the move.
The move follows Tottenham's signing of Brazilian winger Savio from Manchester City. After a heavy 3-0 defeat to Brentford in their Premier League opener, Spurs have responded by strengthening their attack with two signings, much to the delight of Roberto De Zerbi. Marmoush gives De Zerbi a dynamic and versatile option who can play as a centre-forward, secondary striker, or winger.
For Manchester City, Marmoush's departure streamlines their attack and raises significant funds. The 'special' 27-year-old forward joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025 for around £59 million. He scored 16 goals and provided four ******* ists in 62 appearances in all competitions, but regular starts were limited due to competition with Erling Haaland.
Once he completes his medical and is officially unveiled, Marmoush will become the third Egyptian to play for Tottenham, following in the footsteps of former striker Mido and midfielder Hossam Ghaly.
