Britain Covey will be available to handle punt-return duties when the Philadelphia Eagles open their season against the Washington Commanders. Philadelphia elevated Covey from the practice squad Saturday after placing rookie tight end Eli Stowers on injured reserve. The standard elevation allows Covey to play Sunday before reverting to the practice squad after the game.
Covey was listed as Philadelphia's primary punt returner on its first unofficial depth chart, but he needed to be elevated because he was not on the 53-man roster.
Rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon worked extensively as a punt returner during training camp, even while recovering from a hamstring injury. Special teams coordinator Michael Clay expressed confidence in Lemon's development while acknowledging the Eagles had other options available.
We have downgraded TE Eli Stowers to out for tomorrow’s game with quadriceps and hamstring injuries. He has been placed on the Injured Reserve List. We have also elevated WR Britain Covey for the game. pic.twitter.com/4hGlWIiBY6
Covey gives Philadelphia an experienced and dependable alternative.

Kyle Tucker hit a crucial seventh-inning grand slam to power the Dodgers (90-57) to a 6-2 win over the Marlins (72-76) Friday night in Miami.
It was an exciting night in Miami with pregame buzz surrounding the MLB debut of Dodgers top prospect Josue De Paula. De Paula went 0-for-3 on the night. He flied out to right fielder Esteury Ruiz in his first major-league at-bat. In his second at-bat, with one out in the fourth, the 21-year old drew a walk. In his third at-bat, De Paula grounded out to first baseman Kyle Stowers.
Blake Snell put together another solid night on the mound, only allowing 1 run on 4 hits to the Fish. Otto Lopez singled against Snell in the first, but Smith gunned down Lopez at second on a steal attempt to end the inning. The Marlins got more base runners on in the second against Snell, but he was once again able to pitch around the traffic to get out of the inning unscathed.
Tucker has been getting hot at just the right time for the Dodgers after an abysmal year at the plate.
The Dodgers manufactured a run in the top of the third. Tommy Edman drew the leadoff walk, and Max Muncy singled. Kyle Tucker's sac fly gave Snell a 1-0 lead.

Final Eagles injury report ahead of Week 1 game vs. Commanders appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
After watching their 2025 NFL season get derailed by injuries – in addition to the play-calling faux pas of Kevin Patullo – the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves relatively unscathed heading into Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season.
Now granted, that can change in a hurry, as the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots quickly learned in their Wednesday night Super Bowl rematch, but with their final injury report submitted before Week 1, only two players appear: star free agent edge rusher Jonathan Greenard, who is officially out, and rookie tight end Eli Stowers, who is questionable to make his NFL debut against the Washington Commanders.
While Greenard won't be on the field in Week 1 alongside Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and company, it sounds like his absence won't be an extended one, as he said he was "close" heading into Week 1.

The Philadelphia Eagles issued their second official injury report of the week on Thursday in advance of their Week 1 game against the Washington Commanders.
The Eagles listed two players under LIMITED PARTICIPATION: Jonathan Greenard and Eli Stowers.
The Eagles are said to be determining Greenard's availability based on how he fares in practice this week. Two days of him being limited doesn't necessarily preclude him from playing … but they'd probably like to see him get at least one full session in before he suits up. So, we'll see how things go for Friday's final injury report.
Eagles edge rusher Jonathan Greenard said he does not know if he will play Sunday (“That’s up to (the coaches)”)

He called his pec injury “one of them freak things” that happened while working out.

“Thank God I didn’t need surgery.”

“Obviously it's not 100 (percent), but in a…
"We're close, I know that."

Asked #Eagles edge rusher Jonathan Greenard if he will play Sunday against the Commanders and he said that will be a coaches decision.

Greenard said his pec injury came from lifting weights and was a "freak injury" pic.twitter.com/GxKWpgo2aM

After a 5 run first inning, Kansas City had a multi-run lead for over half the game. The Marlins kept chipping away inning after inning to eventually win 9-6.
It was a very exciting beginning to the game tonight, though it was both the good and bad type of exciting. Noah Cameron had a breaking ball hit the back foot of the leadoff hitter to start the game. Then Otto Lopez hit a hard groundball down the third baseline and into the corner that John Rave misplayed into a triple and an RBI. Kyle Stowers was up third and the infield was in. He immediately hit a little single up the middle to make the game 2-0. Cameron started to settle in after that and got out of the first. In the bottom half the Royals decided to show Miami that anything they could do KC could do better. Carter Jensen led the game off by pulling a solo home run and cutting the lead in half. Bobby Witt managed to reach base with a single before Jac Caglianone mirrored the triple in the top half of the inning only down the first baseline and into the corner for a double. It was enough with Witt's speed to tie the game up 2-2. That was not enough for Salvador Perez however, so he also turned on a ball and hit his 18th bomb of the year to score two and give the Royals the lead. After which Vinnie Pasquantino flew out, Nick Loftin worked a walk, and the newly returned Michael Massey drove a double to right center for a 5-2 lead.
View Link
That was a long inning for Eury Perez ending with 34 pitches thrown, and the Marlins even got the bullpen moving a bit before the end of the initial frame. It was a great start after the last two games where the Royals got blown out, but the crazy first was a long way from the end of this one. Cameron, after those first three batters, took down the next 8 in a row before Miami got to him in the 3rd. With two outs and no one on, Stowers got his second RBI knock of the night by hitting a solo homer to left center. It looked like he may have struck out on a check swing the pitch before the home run, but it was called no swing on appeal.
In the bottom of the 4th, with Eury still hanging in there, Carter Jensen tagged another mistake and lined it 110mph into the Royals bullpen. It was his second multi-homer game of his career and brought him to and then above the 20 homer mark. Not bad for your first full season in the bigs. Royals lead 6-3.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Graham Pauley homered and tripled to drive in four runs, Kyle Stowers also went deep, and the Miami Marlins rolled past the Kansas City Royals 6-3 on Tuesday night.
Tyler Phillips (4-6) threw five innings of one-hit ball for the Marlins, striking out four and walking two. Three relievers combined to give up five hits with two strikeouts, with Tyler Zuber finishing off the ninth.
Pauley, recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville ahead of the game — his fifth call-up of the year — hit his second major league homer of the season in the second, a two-run shot to right.
Stowers added a 412-footer to right in the fifth to make it a three-run game.
Pauley's first triple of the season drove in two more and sent Royals starter Randy Dobnak (2-3) to the dugout in the seventh. Javier Sanoja got Pauley across with a single to make it 6-0.

Baseball has a way of humbling you, regressing your performance to the mean wherever the mean may be and however you may be skirting it. The Baseball Gods are equally jealous and impish. In other words, the other shoe always drops. Though Randy Dobnak's peripherals and underlying stats have flashed danger throughout his Kansas City tenure, his luck ran out and his magic evaporated—on Harry Potter night at the ballpark, no less—during a 6-3 loss to the Miami Marlins.
Entering tonight, Dobnak had a 1.92 ERA but a 4.55 expected ERA. He wasn't striking guys out, and he wasn't allowing any home runs. Unfortunately, Dobnak gave up a pair of looong home runs. The first one was to third baseman Graham Pauley in the second inning, a two-run shot:

Dobnak wobbled through the next few innings before giving up another big ol blast to designated hitter Kyle Stowers, his 17th of the year.

Howie Roseman did not close the door on a Zach Ertz reunion, but he also made it clear that the organization likes its current tight end group. Following the Eagles' 53-man roster cuts, Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice asked Roseman whether the Eagles had spoken with Ertz or had interest in bringing the veteran back to Philadelphia.
"First, I'd say what an unbelievable player, what an unbelievable person, tremendous respect for him," Roseman said. "At the same time, love what we have going in our tight end room, too."
Ertz is nearing the nine-month point in his recovery from a significant knee injury. Nothing appears imminent, although Philadelphia has maintained contact with one of the most accomplished tight ends in franchise history.
"Have talked to Zach over a period of time, obviously rehabbing his ACL and the relationship, just like a lot of our former players who've been here," Roseman said.
The Eagles formed their initial roster with Dallas Goedert, Johnny Mundt, second-round pick Eli Stowers and E.J. Jenkins at tight end. Grant Calcaterra was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return, making him eligible to rejoin the roster after four games. That depth reduces the need to rush into an agreement with Ertz. It also gives Philadelphia time to monitor his recovery and evaluate its current group during the opening weeks.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Daylen Lile homered twice and drove in four runs, Erik Tolman pitched out of a bases-loaded jam to earn his first major league save, and the Washington Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 6-3 on Monday night.
The Marlins dropped three of four to the Nationals and fell four games behind Arizona in the race for the final NL wild-card spot.
Lile, named the NL player of the week earlier Monday, finished 3 for 3. The second-year outfielder has five homers over his past eight games to reach 20 for the season.
Brady House was 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Nationals. Andrew Pinckney and Keibert Ruiz also had two hits apiece.
Tolman replaced Matt Waldron with the bases loaded and **** ody out in the eighth. He struck out Kyle Stowers, then induced a double-play grounder from Leo Jiménez. Tolman then struck out the side in the ninth.

The Philadelphia Eagles' rookie evaluations will continue long after Friday's preseason finale against Cincinnati.
The immediate decisions, however, are approaching. Philadelphia must determine which young players can contribute now, which need developmental time, and how injuries affect the initial roster. Not every rookie on this list is fighting to avoid being released. For several, the stakes involve readiness and role rather than job security.
Payton has shown the ability to create with his legs, but Philadelphia needs continued progress in the passing game. Recognizing pressure, getting through reads and protecting the football are priorities. A clean finish would help the Eagles feel more comfortable about his development behind the veteran quarterbacks.
Stowers' second-round status makes his roster position secure. His immediate role is less certain, particularly while he manages a hamstring injury. If cleared, he needs to demonstrate **** ignment reliability and progress as a blocker. If unavailable, the focus shifts to preparing him for a useful role during the season rather than forcing a preseason appearance.
Bell has made a favorable impression, but thumb and leg issues interrupted his final week of camp. His priority is becoming available, not rescuing a roster spot. A healthy Bell gives Philadelphia a young tackle to develop behind its established starters. Any finale snaps should serve that development rather than become a test of how much discomfort he can tolerate.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: It's preseason!
We are back! Sort of. The Eagles' preseason opener was hardly an inspiring return to watching the Eagles. I am not interested in using a preseason game featuring almost no established starters to make sweeping declarations about Sean Mannion. The Eagles have repeatedly demonstrated that they are happy to sacrifice preseason entertainment to protect important players and conceal the more meaningful parts of the playbook. Whether you agree with that approach or not, this organization does not treat these games as rehearsals for its actual offense.
There were still some early indications of Mannion's influence, particularly in the running game. As part of the run-game data we are tracking for our Patreon this season, I charted six Outside Zone runs and three Duo runs. That is not a large enough sample to declare that the Eagles have transformed their offensive identity, but the emphasis was noticeable. The structure of the running game was more interesting than the results, especially when you add in more under center runs.
The other important piece of context is that Baltimore's defense was not nearly as vanilla as the Eagles' offense. Jesse Minter called several creative pressures and tested the communication and protection rules of an inexperienced offensive line. By comparison, the Eagles kept everything extremely basic.
The opening clip summarizes much of the first-team offense. The Eagles used Grant Calcaterra and Eli Stowers together, but neither currently looks capable of giving them the blocking they would need from a legitimate two-tight-end package. Calcaterra is fortunate not to be penalized here, while Stowers' usage throughout the game was strange. We repeatedly asked a player drafted primarily for his receiving ability to perform difficult ****** ignments as an attached blocker.

Coordinator changes often create uncertainty. New play-callers bring new ideas, new tendencies, and sometimes entirely different visions for how an offense should operate. That may be one reason Dallas Goedert had a relatively quiet start to Philadelphia Eagles training camp. That certainly stood out. The targets reportedly weren't as frequent early in camp, which sometimes birthed legitimate questions about how Sean Mannion's offense might distribute opportunities.
Lately, however, a different trend has emerged. Per various sources, including ESPN's Tim McManus, "Jalen Hurts' connection with tight end Dallas Goedert is heating up. The Eagles have made a concerted effort to get the ball into Goedert's hands, involve him in the passing game, and make him a larger part of the offensive rhythm. Whether it's short completions underneath, chain-moving routes over the middle, or red-zone opportunities, Goedert's involvement has steadily increased as camp has progressed.
The Eagles have several intriguing options at tight end, but none match Goedert's combination of experience, production, and quarterback trust. Johnny Mundt is a valuable addition and appears to have carved out a role in certain personnel packages. The veteran has built a reputation as a blocker; however, not as a player expected to carry a significant portion of the passing attack.
Rookie Eli Stowers may eventually become a dynamic receiving threat, but the Eagles have shown little urgency in accelerating his development. That's understandable, considering he's still relatively new to the position and continues to learn the finer points of the NFL game.
Cameron Latu is an interesting developmental player whose versatility could create opportunities. Some have even wondered if he could occasionally function in a fullback-type role. Grant Calcaterra remains on the roster, but he never quite developed into the player many hoped he would become. E.J. Jenkins and Dae'Quan Wright have traits the coaching staff appreciates, but both face difficult paths toward meaningful offensive roles.

MIAMI — With the MLB trade deadline arriving Monday, Miami Marlins first baseman/outfielder Kyle Stowers has become one of the most intriguing names in trade discussions.
After emerging as one of the National League's premier power hitters over the past two seasons, the 28-year-old Stowers has drawn significant interest from contenders seeking an impact left-handed bat for the stretch run.
Reports indicate the Houston Astros are among the teams engaged in trade discussions with Miami, while several other playoff contenders have also inquired about Stowers, an All-Star in 2025.
The Astros have been linked most prominently as they search for another middle-of-the-order bat to bolster their lineup for another postseason run.
While discussions have reportedly taken place, there has been no indication a deal is imminent.

Vanderbilt is coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, going 10-3 overall and 6-2 in the SEC while being in the playoff conversation the whole year. Head coach Clark Lea has built up the Vandy program into something extremely respectful, if not borderline borderline playoff contending – will need a couple more years of sustained success to go that far.
Offense
In 2025, the Commodores finished 8th in the nation in points per game at 38.5 thanks in large part to quarterback Diego Pavia. Pavia was the engine of the Vandy offense and finished as the Heisman runner-up. 2026, though, will see a new signal caller under center. Most believe that true freshman and former UGA commit Jared Curtis will be the starter in Week 1. A former five-star recruit and Nashville native, Curtis flipped to Vanderbilt just prior to putting pen to paper for his signing. Curtis is by far the biggest recruit in the history of Vanderbilt football, who had never had even a top 50 commit prior to Curtis signing. Having already drawn comparisons from his head coach Lea, it seems that Curtis will indeed be the starter. Other quarterbacks pushing Curtis for the starting spot are third year quarterback Blaze Berlowitz and and Whit Muschamp, son of Will Muschamp.
Though the quarterback will be new, the main player they will hand the ball off to is not. Sedrick Alexander returns for another year as the starting running back after averaging 5.4 yard per carry and accumulating 15 total touchdowns last season. Alexander will likely be tasked with carrying a bigger workload in 2026 to ease the pressure off the true-freshman Curtis.
The Commodores did lose All-American tight end Eli Stowers who will now be catching passes from Jalen Hurts for the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite the loss of their leading pass catcher in terms of receptions, Vanderbilt does return their top wide receiver in Junior Sherrill who led the team with 800 yards through the air.

The Mets fell to the Fish by a score of 5-2 which evened up the series against Miami. Kodai Senga got the start instead of Freddy Peralta who was scratched ahead of Monday's trade deadline.
Senga was actually very good through four innings allowing just one hit and no walks. Unfortunately it all fell apart in the fifth when issued back-to-back walks to start the inning. Jakob Marsee followed with a double to put the Marlins on the board with their first run of the game. Senga was then lifted in favor of Xzavion Curry who didn't exactly limit the damage. Two singles brought home two more runs and Miami held a 4-0 lead when the inning ended. That also closed the book on Senga's night who was charged with three of those runs. It's a shame because it was a positive step forward for the righty until the fifth, and perhaps he tired a bit towards the end of his outing.
After the Mets put a run on the board in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Marlins error and an A.J. Ewing RBI single, Curry gave the run right back the following inning on a Kyle Stowers home run.
Francisco Lindor countered with a solo shot of his own in the seventh but that was as close as the Mets would get. The offense wasn't necessarily shut down by Miami's pitchers. They had their chances they just couldn't capitalize on them. Luis Robert Jr. especially had a rough night. He struck out with runners on second and third and two-out in the fourth and grounded into a double play in the eighth when they needed baserunners. One night after being the hero he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. As the great Frank Sinatra once said 'That's life."
Nothing else of any importance happened in this game but its what is happening away from the field that is far more important for this organization right now. Get me some trades, and some photos of Spider-man!

Jalen Hurts did not wait for a question to establish the Philadelphia Eagles' standard for the 2026 season.
Hurts opened his first training camp news conference with a statement about the offseason, the workouts he organized with teammates and the importance of strengthening relationships throughout the offense.
"Really good summer," Hurts said. "We got a lot of work in, got a lot of guys together and definitely grew closer. The mentality is 100 percent alignment, zero entitlement."
The message reflects Hurts' approach to leading a roster filled with accomplished and highly paid players. Philadelphia has Pro Bowl selections, All-Pro performers and players with championship experience, but Hurts does not believe previous success guarantees future results. His offseason work amid A.J. Brown's departure was designed to build the alignment he referenced. Hurts trained with quarterbacks Tanner McKee, Andy Dalton and Cole Payton in Orlando, Florida, while several wide receivers and tight ends participated in throwing sessions.
DeVonta Smith, Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, Elijah Moore, Dallas Goedert and rookie Eli Stowers were among the offensive players involved. First-round receiver Makai Lemon joined the sessions after working through a hamstring injury. The workouts allowed teammates to develop timing while learning how each player communicates and responds to coaching. That familiarity is particularly important as Philadelphia installs Sean Mannion's offense and incorporates several new skill-position players.

The Philadelphia Eagles have enough depth that they should not need to rush first-year players onto the field. Their 2026 draft class, however, includes several rookies whose talent, draft status, or special teams value could make them difficult to keep on the sideline.
Makai Lemon has the clearest path to an immediate offensive role. The Eagles traded up to select the USC wide receiver with the 20th overall pick, signaling that they view him as an important part of their post-A.J. Brown receiving corps. His hamstring rehabilitation could slow his early progress, but his burst, versatility, and ability after the catch should earn him opportunities once healthy.
Eli Stowers enters a crowded tight end room, but second-round picks are expected to contribute. The former Vanderbilt standout won the Mackey Award and earned first-team All-American honors before Philadelphia selected him No. 54 overall. His receiving ability could earn him work alongside Dallas Goedert, particularly in passing situations and multiple-tight-end packages.
Markel Bell may not open the season as a starter, but the third-round tackle could dress on game days as valuable insurance behind Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson. Philadelphia selected Bell with the 68th pick, and his size could also make him useful as an extra blocker in short-yardage or goal-line packages.
Cole Wisniewski has an opportunity because safety remains one of Philadelphia’s least settled positions. The seventh-round pick may begin his career on special teams, but dependable tackling and ******* ignment discipline could earn him situational defensive snaps while the Eagles evaluate the entire safety room.

The Philadelphia Eagles enter training camp with a tight end room led by one of the most accomplished players on the roster and surrounded by one of the more interesting depth battles on offense.
Dallas Goedert remains the headliner. He is still the Eagles' most complete tight end, one of Jalen Hurts' most trusted targets, and a valuable piece of Philadelphia's offensive identity. His ability to win in the passing game while also contributing as a blocker gives the Eagles a dependable veteran at a position where reliability matters.
The intrigue begins behind him.
Grant Calcaterra returns with experience in the system. Johnny Mundt brings veteran toughness and blocking value. Stone Smartt gives Philadelphia an athletic option with pass-catching upside. Cameron Latu, E.J. Jenkins, Eli Stowers, and Dae'Quan Wright all enter camp trying to prove they can force their way into the conversation.
The Eagles do not need every tight end to become a star. They need clarity. They need a reliable second option, dependable depth, special teams value, and perhaps one young player who can become part of the offense's future.

Jalen Hurts has already accomplished more than most quarterbacks ever will. He enters the 2026 season with two Super Bowl appearances, a Super Bowl MVP award, three Pro Bowl selections, one second-team All-Pro honor, and one of the best winning percentages by a quarterback since the 1970 merger.
That does not make him a finished product. It may explain why his offseason approach matters so much.
Hurts has never treated success as a reason to stop working. That mindset was on display again this offseason as he continued training with renowned quarterback trainer Quincy Avery while also organizing work with several Eagles offensive players in Orlando, Florida. Nearly all of Philadelphia's quarterbacks were present, including Hurts, Tanner McKee, Andy Dalton, and Cole Payton, along with a large group of wide receivers and tight ends. DeVonta Smith, Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore, Dontayvion Wicks, Darius Cooper, Dallas Goedert, Cameron Latu, E.J. Jenkins and Eli Stowers were among those involved, while Makai Lemon continues working through a hamstring injury.
The trip was about more than throwing routes.
It included training, workouts, golf, and bonding, giving Hurts a chance to build timing and chemistry with a new-look supporting cast before training camp. For a quarterback entering another offensive transition, that type of work can matter. Hurts is learning from another play-caller and has dealt with uncommon coordinator turnover throughout his career. NBC Sports Philadelphia reported last month that Hurts is entering 2026 with his sixth offensive coordinator and seventh play-caller in seven NFL seasons.

Darius Slay knows the Philadelphia Eagles’ locker room, Jalen Hurts, and A.J. Brown better than most people discussing the team from the outside. That made Slay’s national television debut on ESPN’s NFL Live notable, especially when the former Eagles cornerback was asked about the public conversation surrounding Hurts, Brown, and Philadelphia’s evolving offense. Slay, who spent five seasons with the Eagles, defended both players while offering insight into the personalities that helped shape one of the NFL’s most talented locker rooms.
“I’ve been in the locker room for a long time, five years there,” Slay said. “I got a great history with these guys, man. Both of these guys as well. They both great people. A.J.’s a great teammate, one of the best teammates. Hurts is the same way. He’s a great leader. They both leads in different ways.”
Slay described Brown as more reserved and Hurts as more vocal because of his role as the quarterback. He also pushed back against the idea that Brown’s individual ambition should be viewed as a negative, saying elite players are naturally driven by both team success and personal accomplishments.
“A.J., for sure, is a win-first guy,” Slay said. “But as you’re a player playing this game, you do want to have your own individual goals. I don’t ever got to know a guy that’s that elite that just don’t want his accomplishments to be acknowledged.”
That part of Slay’s appearance mattered because Brown is no longer on the Eagles’ roster, and Philadelphia has moved into a new phase offensively. Jeremy Fowler reported during the segment that the Eagles are expected to have more of an “equal opportunity” passing offense with Brown gone, with DeVonta Smith comfortable operating as a No. 1 wide receiver. Fowler also pointed to Smith’s chemistry with Hurts from their Alabama days and mentioned Makai Lemon and Eli Stowers as young options who could help replace production.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Kyle Stowers hit two home runs in a 4-for-5 night, Heriberto Hernández, Jakob Marsee and Owen Caissie also homered and the Miami Marlins beat the Athletics 12-5 on Friday night.
Stowers had his second four-hit game of the season, matching a June 17 performance against the Phillies.
Hernández's 414-foot three-run shot in the first inning made it a five-run game before the first out was recorded, as the first five batters all came around to score.
Liam Hicks scored on Xavier Edwards' bases-loaded walk, and Stowers came across on a passed ball. Marsee's first of the night added one more run before the A's finally got out of the inning.
The A's briefly staged a rally, as Nick Kurtz hit a two-run homer in the third and Jeff McNeil had a three-run double in the fourth, but Stowers hit a solo homer in the sixth and a two-run shot in the eighth to stretch the lead back to five.

After falling behind early from a shaky start by their starting pitcher, the Colorado Rockies rallied offensively and the bullpen shut things down to secure a series split with the Miami Marlins and a 14-4 victory.
Something seemed to finally start clicking for Michael Lorezen over the month of June and the hope was to keep things rolling into July. His first start this month proved to be a grind.
Lorenzen’s command was shaky from the get-go. Liam Hicks led off the game with a single, followed by a double from Otto Lopez. Both pitches were left over the plate and the Marlins did not miss. Lorenzen then issued a walk to Kyle Stowers to load the bases. Xavier Edwards grounded into a force out that could have been a double play if Edouard Julien hadn’t hesitated on the throwing decision. The play scored the run to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead. Lorenzen then issued another walk to Griffin Conine to load the bases once again. Owen Caissie lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in Lopez and give the Marlins a 2-0 lead.
He escaped the inning on the next hitter and rebounded with a quick 1-2-3 second inning. Lopez smacked a lead-off triple in the top of the third and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Edwards to extend the lead 3-1. Thanks to a couple of nifty defensive plays about the run, including a sharply hit ball to Julien, Lorenzen ended the inning without any further damage.

The Eagles will not know their final rookie hierarchy until the pads come on in a few weeks, but several first-year players already have clear paths to immediate roles on offense, defense, and special teams.
Makai Lemon has the most obvious offensive opportunity. With A.J. Brown traded to New England and DeVonta Smith stepping into the No. 1 receiver role, Philadelphia needs a rookie who can add explosiveness, separation, and yards-after-catch ability. Lemon's draft status and skill set should give him every chance to become an early contributor, even with Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, Dontayvion Wicks , and Elijah Moore also competing for snaps.
Eli Stowers is another offensive rookie to watch. Dallas Goedert remains the top tight end, and Johnny Mundt gives the Eagles a blocking presence, but Stowers brings long-term receiving upside. If he can handle enough of the blocking and ***** ignment work, he could carve out a role in two-tight-end packages and red-zone situations.
Along the offensive line, Jake Majors , Hollin Pierce , Jaeden Roberts , Willie Lampkin , Myles Hinton , and Cameron Williams enter camp trying to earn depth roles. Philadelphia rarely rushes young linemen unless forced, but roster spots behind Jordan Mailata , Landon ***** erson , Cam Jurgens , Tyler Steen , and Lane Johnson remain important.
Defensively, Drew Mukuba has the clearest rookie path. The Eagles have reshaped the secondary, and Mukuba's range, instincts, and coverage versatility give him a chance to compete for meaningful safety snaps immediately. His development could also help Vic Fangio keep Cooper DeJean in a flexible nickel role.
