Los Colchoneros are exploring the possibility of bringing the Serbia international to Spain on a free transfer.
Vlahovic became one of the most sought-after free agents in Europe after leaving Juventus following the expiration of his contract in Turin in June.
The 26-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs, including Manchester United, Barcelona and Besiktas.
However, Atletico's approach could prove particularly appealing after Vlahovic reportedly made the Spanish side his preferred destination.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has spoken out on Julian Alvarez's future amid continuing speculation about a summer transfer to Barcelona.
Alvarez has said he wants to leave Atletico and feels a transfer is "the best thing for everyone" but Los Colchoneros continue to insist he's not for sale.
There's been speculation that Simeone is happy for Alvarez to leave as he doesn't want players who are not 100% committed, but the Atletico boss was certainly full of praise for his striker when quizzed on the situation.
"He's the player we have in mind to create plays around. His future is tomorrow's match; the best thing for him is to focus on that, not think about everything that's been said. Things will work themselves out as they always do," he told ESPN.
"From the moment he arrived, I knew he was a different kind of player, one who brought an attacking quality that's very hard to find. Julián is among the top five in the world. Thanks to his hard work and the growth he experienced at City and Atlético, he's reached this point and these numbers (market value). We'll see what happens.

Originally, Paris Saint-Germain duo Vitinha and Joao Neves, and Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, were cited as the potential targets of Real Madrid’s bid, with all three having been signalled as players that they were interested in beforehand. Diario AS say that Real Madrid have no plans to further pursue the signing of Alvarez, who is not in a position of particular need for Los Blancos either.
If Alvarez is to leave the Metropolitano this summer, then it seems he will most likely be headed abroad. Barcelona have expressed a strong interest in Alvarez, but Atletico have turned down a bid from the Catalans too, and seem reluctant to sell within La Liga. AS go on to say that **** nal are now the best-placed side to sign Alvarez, with Paris Saint-Germain ending their interest in the Argentina international last month. The Gunners hold a long-term interest, and would have the funds to make an offer that could interest Atletico.

Rafa Yuste has hit back at Atletico following their social media messages last week in response to speculation about Julian Alvarez’s future.
Los Colchoneros put out several messages on X about trying to sign Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Raphinha and subsequently explained it was because they were very angry about the transfer talk regarding Alvarez’s future.
Yuste has been asked about the saga and said the posts were “in very bad taste.”
He went on to say: “At Barcelona we have a very clear way of acting as a club. I believe that education is paramount and, therefore, we must continue to set an example, myself first as president and down to the last member of the board of directors.”
Yuste also insisted that Atletico’s message will not affect Barcelona’s transfer plans, adding: “It doesn’t change our sporting policy at all, it has nothing to do with it. Deco is very clear about his sporting plans and will stick to them.”
