There are a lot of things to say when talking about the Cleveland Browns.
Very old fans can reminisce about how the franchise was once one of the league's dynasties, led by the father of the modern NFL in head coach Paul Brown. But with their last NFL championship coming in 1964, those memories grow dimmer every year.
Those of us who are old, but not that old, can share tales of the teams of the 1980s, perennial playoff participants that reached the cusp of the Super Bowl three times under the franchise's last great head coach in Marty Schottenheimer and everyone's favorite quarterback in Bernie Kosar.
For today's fans, those teams may as well have played in the leather helmet era; it was so long ago. And while they have been able to cheer for some of the franchise's most legendary players like Joe Thomas, Nick Chubb, Myles Garrett, and Joel Bitonio, that has not always been a comfort once the game ended on another lost Sunday afternoon.
That is because, of all the things one could say about the Browns, the one thing they have not been able to say much since 1999 is that the team plays winning football.

"Today's the day I've been avoiding for a while. Twelve-year-old me could never imagine this day, and 30-year-old me is wondering where all the time has gone," he said. "I've known for some time now, but I'm finally ready to share that I'm done playing football."

Cleveland Browns legend Nick Chubb officially announced his retirement from the NFL after eight seasons.
Chubb played seven of his eight seasons in Cleveland, where he compiled the third-most rushing yards (6,843) and rushing touchdowns (51) in franchise history.
A major knee injury in 2023 kind of derailed Chubb's career and forced him to retire earlier than he might have otherwise. Despite this though, he walks away from the football field with no regrets.
"I say this to all my brothers still on the field, still in the heat of it: There's a life waiting for you after football, too. And health is the real wealth," Chubb said regarding retirement. "I end my career in a great place. Even though there are some things I wish had happened differently, I can say that I have no regrets."

Every Cleveland Browns fan can remember where they were when the Houston Texans announced that they had signed running back Nick Chubb. It was a sad day in Northeast Ohio.
On Friday, Chubb announced his retirement from the NFL on an Instagram post. Chubb began the 2025 season as Houston's lead running back, but his snaps became more limited as the season rolled along, and eventually fourth-round rookie Woody Marks surpassed him. Chubb concluded the season with just nine starts and 326 offensive snaps, or 32% of all offensive plays.

Chubb was a second-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft and pick #35 out of Georgia. He started just nine games in his rookie season and then was the starting RB beginning in 2019. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards in four seasons, including the 1,525 he gained in 2022. Chubb has been named to the Pro Bowl four times and voted Second Team All-Pro in 2022.

One of Georgia football's all-time great running backs is retiring from the NFL.
Nick Chubb took to Instagram on Friday night Aug. 21 and announced he's walking away from the game after eight seasons as a pro.
"I've known for some time now, but I'm finally ready to share that I'm done playing football," Chubb wrote in a lengthy post. "I wanted to end my career on a healthy note, along with a winning season, and I was able to do that."
Chubb was a second-round pick by the Cleveland Browns with the No. 35 overall selection in the 2018 draft after rushing for 4,769 yards from 2014-17 for Georgia. That's second most behind Herschel Walker in program history.
Chubb rushed for 7,349 yards and 54 touchdowns in his career, all but one in Cleveland. He finished in 2025 with the Houston Texans, rushing for 506 yards.

The outlet named the player that is on the "hot seat" more than anybody heading into next year. In Buffalo, the selection is a newcomer in linebacker Bradley Chubb.
Over the past several years, Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane has tried to find a strong veteran pass-rushing piece for the team's defensive front. Names like Joey Bosa and Von Miller come to mind. Chubb is the latest member of that group after signing a three-year deal this offseason.
Chubb will be tasked with helping the Bills increase their sacks total next season from the 36 that the team recorded in 2025, which was sixth-fewest in the NFL.

Buffalo Bills training camp begins next week… what a fantastic sentence to write after the prolonged time spent away from football. For the Bills there are many different questions heading into camp that fans are waiting to see the answers.
One of the areas to look at is what to expect from the rookie class. It’s not crazy to say this class could be the most productive class in their rookie year that Brandon Beane has had since the 2018 class that, of course, was headlined by Josh Allen.
There’s second-round pick T.J. Parker… could he give quarterbacks problems all season and come close to double digit sacks? We do know Parker has been training this offseason with veteran Bradley Chubb who signed with the Bills in free agency. Not a bad mentor to have as a rookie.
Cornerback Davison Igbinosun was the pick after Parker and again is a question mark in this draft class that could provide a huge impact. He’s a talented cornerback that could even push Maxwell Hairston for a starting spot. We also know that the injury bug has been known to affect Buffalo’s secondary year after year so it is likely that Igbinosun will play meaningful snaps at some point in the season.
In the fourth round the team was able to draft receiver Skyler Bell who is considered by some to be one of the best receivers in the draft and provides a fun blend of speed, quickness, and tenacity at the catch point. Bell has a reasonable path to being in the rotation at receiver. Keon Coleman certainly did not impress last season while Josh Palmer dealt with injuries the second half of the year. The only locks receiver are DJ Moore and Khalil Shakir.

Joe Brady is entering his first season as the head coach and there's hope that this change in leadership can be what gets the team over the postseason hump. The offense brought in wide receiver D.J. Moore, and the defense notably brought in Bradley Chubb and C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
If there's one area that could still use some reinforcements, it's the pass rush. Yes, Chubb was added, but there's still not much depth behind the veteran and Greg Rousseau. Luckily, though, there could be a perfect trade option who plays not too far away from Buffalo.
Randy Gurzi of Bills On SI recently identified four realistic trade targets for the Bills in July. One of the players listed is Giants' edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux is a former first-round pick who may be getting squeezed out in New York.
