Ryan Garcia left no doubt. After a heated build-up between two of boxing's biggest names, the reigning WBC welterweight champion delivered a devastating performance Saturday night inside of Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena, needing less than two rounds to dispatch Conor Benn and successfully defend his belt in a statement performance.
After controlling the opening round, Garcia ended matters in spectacular fashion early in the second, uncorking a massive right hand that sent Benn crumbling to the canvas. Benn managed to beat the 10-count, but Garcia immediately swarmed his wounded prey and unloaded against the ropes until the referee mercifully stepped in to stop the bout.
Afterward, Garcia (26-2, 21 KOs) called for WBA welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez to join him in the ring, teasing the possiblitiy of a massive unification clash next. Benn (25-2, 14 KOs), meanwhile, suffered the first stoppage loss of his pro career.
Unsurprisingly, as is often the case with anything Garcia does, Saturday's result instantly set the boxing world ablaze, prompting a flood of fellow fighters to gush over Garcia's spectacular performance on social media — and eliciting a healthy amount of revelry from Benn's critics. Chief among those critics was Chris Eubank Jr., who couldn't help but chime in with a roast of his longtime rival following their two-fight series in 2025.
Welcome to the ’fighting after cutting too much weight’ club… Enjoy

Shares of Chime Financial (NASDAQ: CHYM) rallied 44% in August, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Chime delivered an excellent second-quarter earnings report, showing stronger-than-expected growth and a significant inflection in profitability. With the stock having sold off since going public a little over a year ago, it's no surprise to see a rally in response to the strong numbers one year later.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
In the second quarter, Chime's revenue grew 27% to $670 million, with earnings per share swinging from a loss in the prior-year quarter to a positive $0.07. Both figures handily beat **** yst expectations. Chime also raised its full-year revenue guidance to between $2.725 and $2.745 billion, up from the prior quarter's range of $2.66 billion to $2.69 billion, and adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, and depreciation, and amortization) between $465 and $475 million, up from the prior quarter's guidance between $416 million and $431 million.
While revenue growth came in ahead of expectations, the real story appeared to be the company's skyrocketing profit margins. Second quarter adjusted EBITDA margins of 15% marked a more than 12 percentage point improvement relative to the year-ago quarter.

Week 0 and Week 1 gave us plenty of drama! UMass gave us one of the biggest upsets in modern day College Football when they knocked off Rutgers, while Michigan needed a diabolical miracle to beat Western Michigan at the buzzer on a Hail Mary. Oregon also a close call at home to Boise State, so the Big Ten was off to a rough start, but they have a chance to make a statement in Week 2. Texas hosts Ohio State in Week 2 as the headline
Well, here are my Top 25 rankings entering Week 2 of the 2026 season, along with quick overviews and predictions for each team. Every Sunday moving forward you can find my Top 25 here on NBC! Make sure to join the chat on social and chime in with your rankings or where I went wrong! Let's get to it.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
2026 Record: 1-0 (0-0)
Last Game: 56-3 win vs Ball State
Next Game: At #5 Texas — Saturday at 7:30 PM ET
Three different Buckeyes threw for five touchdowns against Ball State and three different rushers had a touchdown as well. Ohio State even scored in the final two minutes against Ball State in a 56-3 win. The Buckeyes were shaking off all the rust and getting all their guys confidence up ahead of the top five showdown with Texas. Ohio State won last year's meeting versus Texas in Columbus, 14-7. We'll see what happens this year! I say Ohio State 21, Texas 20. Jeremiah Smith snaps his two-game touchdown drought against Texas and the Longhorns move to 0-6 against Ohio State and Georgia since 2024.
2. Georgia Bulldogs
2026 Record: 1-0 (0-0)
Last Game: 63-3 win vs Tennessee State
Next Game: Vs Western Kentucky — Saturday at 12:45 PM ET

News that Cathy Engelbert will step down as WNBA commissioner at the end of the 2026 season sent shockwaves through the league on Friday, Sept. 4.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced Engelbert's decision to retire at the end of the year, bringing her polarizing seven-year tenure that saw exponential growth and increased scrutiny to a close. Engelbert helped oversee a transformational collective barging agreement earlier this spring, her second at the helm of the W since becoming the league's first commissioner in 2019.
"Cathy has presided over the WNBA through the most significant period of growth in the league's 30-year history," Silver said in a statement. "We are grateful for Cathy's leadership and unwavering commitment to the advancement of women's basketball."
Silver wasn't the only voice in basketball to comment on the news. WNBPA president Nneka Ogwumike and WNBPA executive director Terri Carmichael Jackson both chimed in following Engelbert's retirement announcement.
Here's are their reactions:

Last Saturday night in Minneapolis, the Boston Cannons walked off the field with a win, a spot in the semifinals and one game standing between them and a trip to the U.S. Bank Championship.
Connor and Colin Kirst had plenty to celebrate. Then their family group chat started going off.
Their younger brother, CJ Kirst, was among the first to chime in.
"See you next weekend."
It was the Philadelphia Waterdogs attackman's way of saying congratulations.

Look at our timing! ***** o and the Mikes managed to plan a recording around deadline day. We waited until the window was closed in Italy to grade the comings and goings of the the end of the mercato. It was a long and arduous summer that took a lot out of ***** o. We grade each move like that one teacher you hated because they docked you points for every little thing…like your punctuation. Andrea Kimi Antonelli happy at Mercedes and he knows it is divided fan group with him leading and Ferrari doing well for Italian fans coming to the F1 Italian GP, as Lewis Hamilton chimes in.
When Antonelli arrived at the scene, it was not clear to everyone how well he could do, even though there was hype about him certainly. After how F1 2025 went, some enthusiasm dipped but midway into 2026, it is going through the roof for the Italian, especially in Italy.
When he went to pick up the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy earlier this year, there was massive stream of fans waiting for him. Even at race tracks, there is considerable growth in the numbers. In general as well, Italian fans are quite emotional about their sports persons and also teams.
Ferrari is at par with football if not larger, in certain sphere. For a top Italian driver to race for an Italian manufacturer is icing on the cake. The last to drive in F1 was Giancarlo Fisichella in 2009. It's been 17 years since and it will be longer than that as Antonelli is happy to be at Mercedes.
The Italian was taken up by the German team at a very young age and rose through the ranks, with Toto Wolff's backing. He is their prodigy, much like how Max Verstappen is for Red Bull and Charles Leclerc is in some ways for Ferrari. And for the near future, Antonelli doesn't see himself anywhere else.

Rapid reaction from the Tennessee ***** ans' 24-15 loss to the Chicago Bears at Nissan Stadium in the final of three preseason games:
Robert Saleh, deviating from the original plan, opted to rest most – but not all – of the ***** ans' starters for this final preseason game. Cam Ward, Jeffery Simmons, Wan'Dale Robinson, Calvin Ridley and others weren't in uniform, but several expected ***** ans contributors did play. Among them: Receivers Carnell Tate, Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike, right guard Fernando Carmona Jr., defensive linemen Solomon Thomas, Jordan Elliott and Jacob Martin, nickel cornerback Marcus Harris and linebackers Cedric Gray, Anthony Hill Jr. and James Williams Sr.
It wasn't the first-string this time, but the ***** ans' defense didn't start well in this preseason game, either, giving up a 97-yard touchdown on the Bears' first offensive snap when cornerback Keydrain Calligan fell down in coverage. Later in the first half, Chicago capped a 16-play, 69-yard drive with a second TD pass for quarterback Tyson Bagent, who was 16-of-17 passing for 208 yards.
Tate did not record a catch in three preseason games. He was targeted only once against the Bears, diving unsuccessfully for a deep ball thrown by quarterback Will Levis into the end zone. While the ***** ans surely would've liked to get more production from their rookie No. 4 overall draft pick in the preseason games, it eased some concerns to see Tate bounce back from a brief rough patch and play a starring role during this past week's joint practice with the Bears.
In what might've been his final game in a ***** ans' uniform, Levis started at quarterback (Mitch Trubisky didn't play, either) and went 14-of-22 passing for 143 yards. Vols legend Hendon Hooker played the rest of the way after halftime. Cut day will be here quickly on Aug. 30. It'll be interesting to see what happens with these two quarterbacks.

Dave Doeren's 14th season at NC State needed just one game to become another referendum on his future. Virginia turned Saturday's opener into a 34-8 rout, while the reaction around the Wolfpack became increasingly unforgiving.
NC State trailed 17-0 at halftime after CJ Bailey threw an interception and lost a fumble, then watched Virginia squeeze more than 12 minutes off the clock on a 23-play fourth-quarter touchdown drive. By then, the frustration had moved well beyond one ugly possession.
One user didn't mince words in anX post: "The Wolfpack better go ahead and just fire head coach Dave Doeren. Start the search now and try again next year."
Todd Bryant chimed in as well. After joking through months of missing college football, he endedhis post with, "Dave Doeren is a joke , I hate watching him on the sidelines for PackFootball."
CBS Sports college football ******* yst Brad Crawford noted that NC State entered with "the easiest schedule in Dave Doeren's 13 seasons," only to get "blown off the field in the opener." In another post, Crawford summed up the Doeren experience more simply: "Watching NC State under Dave Doeren just makes you bang your head against the wall."

Meghan Markle's "snobbish" behavior reportedly made it tough for the Sussexes to hire and retain house staff in Montecito. As per a new report, the word about the former actress' elitist behavior spread like wildfire, to the extent that house staff kept their distance from the Sussexes. For those unversed, as per multiple outlets, the Sussexes will reportedly return to the UK by the end of the month for an extended period of time. They will reside in a private, non-royal home while retaining their Montecito and Portugal homes.
Sources attached to Page Six revealed that Meghan Markle had difficulty retaining house staff for her Montecito home due to her rude and entitled behavior. A source dished: "She had trouble hiring maids because a lot of the housekeepers in Montecito didn't want to work for them. Meghan would interview people herself and could come across as really snobbish and rude. Some of them were so offended by the way she spoke to them that word started getting around."
Another insider explained that Markle became infamous for her bad attitude to the point that all the maids knew they had to steer clear of the Sussexes. "It got to the point where people would joke that all the maids in Montecito hated them," the insider chimed in.

Just when you thought Starbucks couldn't make its cult-fave Pumpkin Spice Latte any more enticing, the chain went and put its signature bevvy in the hands of Off Campus star Belmont Cameli.
To celebrate the August 25 return of the PSL, Starbucks dropped a promo commercial starring the widely beloved actor alongside another icon, Martha Stewart.
"It smells like my house in the fall," Martha gushes as she clutches her PSL, topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin spice. "It's perfect." That's when Belmont appears on the screen with his own iced version. He shoots Martha a flirty glance and declares, "You would get it hot."
Her response? So Martha: "Should I know him?"
Naturally, fans are losing it over the on-screen exchange—and, well, Belmont Cameli in general. "DOES HE COUNT AS A TOPPING?" one fan wrote. "I feel like a dog hearing all my favorite words," another chimed in.

The NFL is back, and while the games don't mean much yet, we might already have our best fart gate of the season.
The Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee **** ans were featured in a nationally televised game on Fox Sunday night. Usually, the biggest debate to come from a preseason game has to do with a quarterback battle, but the biggest debate from Sunday night's game should center around a strange noise erupting from the booth. Because while Week 2 of the NFL preseason rarely delivers many notable moments, the national Fox broadcast caught our attention with what sounded like a fart.
Yes, it was a nationally televised NFL game for Fox in prime time, but no, Tom Brady wasn't on the call. Instead, it was Kenny Albert and Jonathan Vilma in the booth for Fox. Late in the second quarter, Vilma began discussing competition at the wide receiver spot for Tennessee, highlighting second-year player Chimere Dike trying to separate himself.

Hayden Panettiere's tragic death has shocked the world. As per an insider, the Heroes alum suffered from "really severe" health issues in the months leading up to her unfortunate death. The actress died at the shocking young age of 36. Her representatives confirmed the news, leaving fans and industry folks reeling from the suddenness of the situation.
Hayden Panettiere's friend Erick Orellana detailed the severity of her health issues that ultimately claimed her life. Orellana told Page Six, "I know she suffered earlier this year with her back." Orellana, also a hairdresser, elucidated that the late actress' pain was "really severe," to the extent that it affected her leg movement. "At one point, it was even hard for her to move her legs," Orellana dished.
The Nashville star was photographed in March with her boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, at Los Angeles International Airport. Panettiere used crutches for mobility, and her hairdresser friend added that she was "starting to be on the mend."
A second source echoed Orellana's sentiments and chimed in that the late actress had other health issues as well. The source said: "Earlier this year, she did seem a little tired at times. But she was a night owl, and… she has a lot on her plate." The insider also alleged that the Remember The ******* ans star "suffered from anxiety at times" and would "occasionally take medication for that. And every so often that could impact her speech."
Panettiere passed away in Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday, August 16. Authorities made efforts to resuscitate her, but after multiple failed efforts, she was ******* ounced dead at 2:32 p.m.

Jets quarterback Cade Klubnik's current coach praised Klubnik's preseason debut, touting his "moxie" and "confidence." Klubnik's former coach has chimed in, too.
"By the time I got to the office, he was out but I texted back and forth with him last night and just proud of him," Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said regarding Klubnik's first NFL game, via Alexander Turri of USA Today. "I mean, like I said, he's going to be a great pro."
A fourth-round pick in the 2026 draft, Klubnik will have a chance to become the team's starter following Geno Smith 2.0.
"He's gonna play a long time," Swinney added regarding Klubnik. "He's a really, really talented quarterback and that's why he got drafted and they've obviously seen that too right out of the gate. So, hopefully he stays healthy. If he does, he's going to be one of those guys, you look up and he's played quite a while."
Klubnik played through two significant injuries in 2025 (wrist and ankle). His performance suffered from it, and the team underachieved. He nevertheless emerged from the down year undeterred by his pro prospects.

Hayden Panettiere, the former child actress best known for her roles in TV series like "Heroes" and "Nashville," died on Sunday, Aug. 16 − and the news is hitting fans hard.
"I never cried so hard for a stranger in MY LIFE!!!" one user wrote on X.
On social media, tribute posts and comments of disbelief poured in. Panettiere, 36, also starred in "Ice Princess" alongside 2000s icon Michelle Trachtenberg, who died at 39 in 2025.
"First Michelle Trachtenberg now Hayden Panettiere I'm so sad I can't believe this my Ice Princesses both gone," posted another fan. "My brain and heart are still processing this. I can't believe she's no more," one user chimed in.
It's not unusual that Panettiere's death is affecting some fans so deeply. Celebrity deaths can feel personal, even if you never met the person. And while grief is different for everyone, experts say "collective" or "public grief" is a valid experience and can be exacerbated when the death of a public figure is learned unexpectedly in the news or on social media.

The Dallas Cowboys may not have made a "splash signing" in the traditional offseason sense, but make no mistake: this is a significant moment for both the franchise and Texas A&M's football community.
Von Miller has been open for years about wanting to play in Dallas. The Cowboys, meanwhile, have been searching for a seasoned pass rusher who could stabilize the edge, mentor their young defenders, and bring championship‑level experience into the locker room. For now, it feels like a match made in football heaven, with both sides getting exactly what they've been looking for.
Whether this partnership becomes a long‑term success story or simply a short‑term boost remains to be seen. Miller is entering the twilight of his career, and the Cowboys are navigating a roster that's shifting under them. But the move is undeniably noteworthy not just because of Miller's resume, but because of what his presence represents for a team trying to stay competitive in a loaded NFC.
And as expected, the moment the news broke, NFL fans across the league jumped in with their reactions. Cowboys fans celebrated the addition of a future Hall of Famer. Aggies fans took pride in seeing one of their greatest defensive players land with one of the most visible franchises in sports. Rival fanbases chimed in with skepticism, jokes, and hot takes about Miller's age, his production, and whether Dallas is getting the "real" Von Miller or just the name.
That's the beauty of a move like this: it doesn't just shift a depth chart. It sparks conversation, debate, and emotion across the NFL landscape. And when a player of Miller's stature changes teams, especially to a franchise as polarizing as the Cowboys, the reaction is always loud.

Travis Kelce's recent comment about his wedding to Taylor Swift has reportedly sparked fury among their guests, who were required to sign NDAs. Kelce recently gushed over his wedding to the pop star, called it the "best night of my life," and described the festivities as a "crazy night." Guests are reportedly furious that they have been asked to keep quiet. However, the Chiefs player is not holding back and is discussing private details in the media.
As per RobShuter, wedding guests are reportedly frustrated that Travis Kelce can openly discuss intimate wedding details with Taylor Swift, while they are bound by NDAs. One guest lashed out, saying: "So the bride and groom are allowed to talk about it, but we aren't? It feels like there's always one rule for Taylor and another for everyone else."
Another guest chimed in, stating: "Taylor and Travis can decide when to release details, photos or video because it's their wedding. But everyone else is expected to pretend they weren't even there."
However, a third guest explained that the intention of the NDA was not to silence the wedding guests but to allow the couple to tell their story at their time. In fact, Kelce has simply gushed over the wedding festivities and has not really shared any private information.
The source dished: "It's Taylor and Travis' wedding — of course they get to tell their own story. They're the ones who got married. If they want to share memories from the night, that's their choice. The NDA was there to protect their privacy, not silence the couple."

Holding his first press conference since he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, star forward Jaylen Brown stressed that he's moving on from his time with the Boston Celtics.
He didn't shy away, however, from hints that his final days there weren't without challenges.
During a Twitch stream in early July, Brown had said he felt there was "a bit of a lack of respect" during trade talks and discussions of Brown's future, adding that he "wasn't thrilled" with the way Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens "facilitated some of the conversations."
When asked Thursday, Aug. 6 what bothered him about his final days with the Celtics, Brown wanted to look forward.
"The whole process," Brown said. "But to be honest, my mind is so focused on what's in front of me. I'm moving on. Maybe one day we can share the details of how everything transpired and all the moving parts that took place in this. Obviously, it's a lot of speculation; I feel no need to chime in on it because I'm focused on what's in front of me."

Indiana football has been through the grinder on social media this week for its non-conference scheduling practices. Luckily for the Hoosiers, rival Purdue has chimed in to take over the news cycle.
Purdue introduced Tommy McClelland as the Boilermakers' incoming athletic director in a press conference on Thursday afternoon. He comes to West Lafayette from the same role at Rice and is taking over for longtime AD Mike Bobinski, who's set to leave his role at the conclusion of the calendar year.
McClelland spent a fair amount of time laying out his vision for Purdue's future before throwing caution to the wind and taking at jab at Indiana that, well:
I don't believe I need to elaborate on why this falls flat.
Ultimately, it's sports and isn't that serious but is good for a laugh as summer drags on. Social media had plenty to say about it though. Here's some good ones what we found:

In October 2025, the internet absolutely erupted after Odell Beckham Jr. said a $100 million contract can't last forever, during an episode of The Pivot Podcast (1). Now, former NBA star and Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony has decided to chime in with a similar take.
"That's $100 million, but it's not really $100 million over a five-year span," the Knicks legend said on the 7PM in Brooklyn (2) podcast, noting that fans were probably unaware of how brutal state and local taxes can be, especially in a city like New York.
"You're talking 58 percent to 60 percent or 48 percent, half your check," Anthony said. "So that 10 [million] goes to 5 [million] over five years. And within that five, you've got other taxes you gotta pay."

Calvin Ridley took a pay cut to remain with the **** ans this offseason, but it wasn't because he thinks he's lost the ability that made him an offensive threat in past seasons.
Ridley only played seven games before he fractured his fibula last season and he had 17 catches in those games, which had him on track for his least productive full season since entering the NFL. Ridley said over the weekend that neither those results nor the injury have left him questioning if he can keep pace.
"Hell yeah," Ridley said, via the team's website. "[I] can still beat all of them, still as fast as all of them. . . . If I stay healthy, I am going to be a good player on this team. I am going to contribute on this team."
Ridley is the most experienced member of the **** ans' receiving corps and he explained why he's been able to act as a mentor to younger teammates like Carnell Tate, Chimere Dike, and Elic Ayomanor.
"That's because I used to kick **** ," Ridley said. "And I still can."
