A former divisional foe who made a living making life miserable for Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints offense, Kuechly didn't hesitate to take a subtle shot at the Saints while also sharing some genuine praise for his old rival.
As Kuechly paid his respects to the other inductees, he couldn't help but bring up Brees and former Saints head coach Sean Payton. After years of battling the Saints twice a season, Kuechly had a unique memory that had less to do with their on-field battles and more to do with the atmosphere inside the Caesars Superdome.

Aug. 8—PULLMAN — At first there was only silence, the kind of anticipatory stillness that can only mean something breathtaking is on the horizon. Washington State players from both sidelines, offensive players in crimson on the far end and defenders in white on the near side, held their breath as the ball fell back toward the earth, toward the corner of the end zone, where junior wideout Branden Ganashamoorthy was jockeying for position on a pass from quarterback Caden Pinnick.
The ball was a hair underthrown, so Ganashamoorthy adjusted his route accordingly, positioning himself against veteran cornerback Khamari Terrell. He let the ball hit him in the right arm, then cradled it against his body, securing it in the process. He stumbled forward with the ball intact, a one-handed catch.
Cougar players met the moment, perhaps the top individual highlight of WSU fall camp, which wrapped up its third day on Saturday afternoon. Ganashamoorthy jumped in the air with running back Maxwell Woods. He high fived receiver Tony Freeman. "Yeah, BG!"
"He's really progressed since spring ball," WSU coach Kirby Moore said.
Ganashamoorthy made that abundantly clear on Saturday, enjoying by far his best day of fall camp, perhaps the best individual day any of these Cougars have had thus far. The 2023 Texas A&M baseball signing class was loaded with star power, but amid the headliners, one player quietly developed into one of the SEC's most dangerous hitters, and he's already making noise in the minor leagues.
Caden Sorrell never lacked talent, but sharing a class with Gavin Grahovac and joining a roster that already featured Jace LaViolette meant he initially flew under the radar. That changed quickly. Sorrell worked his way into the starting lineup as a freshman and earned Freshman All‑SEC honors. Aug. 6—VERMILLION, S.D. — When Nathan Laperi arrived at the University of South Dakota a year ago, his focus was simply to earn a spot, learn a new defense and adjust to life as a transfer.
Now, just one season later, the Plano, Texas, native has entered the Coyotes' preseason football practices carrying a different responsibility. Laperi is no longer simply fighting for playing time. He is being asked to help lead a developing Coyotes defense.
It has been an outstanding rise for a player entering only his second season with the program after transferring from North Texas, where he spent his true freshman season in 2024. Yet within the program, Laperi has become one of the voices teammates lean toward, a role that was reinforced when he represented USD alongside teammate Tysen Boze at Missouri Valley Football Conference Media Day in July.
For a defense replacing several experienced players, particularly along the defensive line, the trust that the coaches have placed in Laperi says as much about his consistency off the field as it does on it.
"I feel a lot more comfortable coming into this year, especially rotating behind two really good players last year in Caden Crawford and Nyle ***** el," Laperi said. "And the biggest thing I have done this offseason is going back and watching some of the games from last year and watching the reps I was in, as well as the reps those two guys were in. Michael Pittman Jr. is no longer with the Indianapolis Colts, but he doesn't hold a grudge.
The Colts traded the seventh-year wide receiver and a seventh-round draft pick in March to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a sixth-round pick. Indianapolis used that pick on former Center Grove High School defensive lineman Caden Curry.
Pittman joined the "Pat McAfee Show" from Steelers training camp, and he has praise for Colts quarterback Daniel Jones, whose 2025 season ended with an Achilles injury.
"D.J. is a beast," Pittman said. "He is one of the toughest guys. Works super hard. I can't say enough good things about him."

The Panthers agreed to terms with outside linebacker Cam Gill earlier Thursday. They filled an open roster spot later in the day by signing free agent tight end Caden Prieskorn.
Prieskorn, 26, spent time with the Lions and Broncos during training camp in 2025. He was briefly on the practice squad of the Bucs and then the Browns.
Cleveland signed Prieskorn to a futures contract but cut him May 19.
He played college ball at Ole Miss and Memphis and was offensive MVP of the 2023 Peach Bowl after catching 10 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

BLAINE, Minn. – Scottie Scheffler is taking a page out of the Bill Belichick playbook. He's moving on to the 3M Open, jet lag be ***** ed.
"I made it to my alarm this morning. Yesterday I was up at like 3:45," he said on Wednesday during his pre-tournament press conference. "Today I woke up for my 4:15 alarm, so that was definitely better."
After finishing T-4 at the British Open at Royal Birkdale, Scheffler isn't wasting any time reflecting on what could've been.
"No, I definitely haven't done that already. During the year, I just get pretty into the competition. So like with the cadence of the schedule, it really is kind of one week to the next. I always do my best to kind of live in the present, so I wouldn't say I reflect a whole lot," he said. "Right now, this week, we're in Minnesota and I spent the last day and a half kind of getting ready for this tournament."
Scheffler said he thinks this is his first trip to the Land of 10,000 Lakes and certainly his first time teeing it up at the 3M Open. It's a big deal for a tournament in its eighth season on the PGA Tour that has struggled to attract the top players in its usual date following the end of the major season but before the FedEx Cup playoffs heat up.
