The company's almost always about the best in the industry, crushing Burlington and Ross Stores. But this time, shockingly, Ross Stores upside surprised. It crushed TJX, much better than expected... So why bother sticking your neck out for something in this group? Simple. Because some of the greatest stories of all time have come from retail. Costco's been an incredible long-term performer. Walmart's been terrific. And TJX, it's been a wonder, one of the best stocks ever.
Could they really suddenly have lost it? Did they go all LULU? I don't think so. What happens, though, is you have to be conscious that TJX is right now being buffeted by its group, which is trading down because of the decline in discretionary income from the tax that is higher gasoline. We can't tell how much of its underperformance comes from that alone or maybe the mistakes that management made and says they've corrected. In other words, these retail stocks are very hard to own, even as they seem so easy to grasp.

Sep. 14—BEMIDJI — Oliver Peer is already winning 2026-27 CCHA honors.
The Bemidji State men's hockey team's top-line center was named the league's Preseason Player of the Year in the Coaches and Media Polls.
Bemidji State was picked to finish fifth in both polls. Michigan Tech was selected as the league's top team in both polls as well.
Peer, a native of Burlington, Ontario, had 20 goals and 16 ******* ists last year in his first season with the Beavers. He transferred from the University of New Brunswick (U Sports) ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Naturally, Peer was also selected to be on both of the All-CCHA Preseason Teams. Among coaches, Peer is joined by Michigan Tech forwards Max Koskipirrti and Isaac Gordon and Bowling Green's Ben Doran. Iowa wrestler Jordan Williams has been charged with operating while under the influence, according to Johnson County court records.
This is Williams' second OWI charge, according to court documents, with the first coming in Payne County, Oklahoma, in August 2023.
The incident occurred Sept. 7. According to a police affidavit, an officer approached a vehicle that had been running with its lights on for "at least" two hours in a parking lot/garage at 180 E. Burlington St. in Iowa City. The officer found Williams unconscious with an open container of alcohol in his lap.
The police affidavit states that after Williams woke up, the officer observed an alcohol smell, slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, as well as Williams showing impairment in standardized field sobriety tests. Williams refused a preliminary breath test, according to the police affidavit.
This is Williams' second off-the-mat incident since committing to Iowa in 2025. On June 14, 2025, while Williams was publicly committed to Iowa but not yet signed, he was involved in an incident at ReUnion Brewery in Iowa City. He and his attorney later agreed to an amended plea of a simple misdemeanor charge for disorderly conduct.

Pemberton has turned to a familiar face to help revive its boys basketball program. This week the Pemberton board approved the hiring of Ryan Derry to the post.
Derry comes to the Hornets with six years of head coaching experience at Burlington Township Derry's teams went 88-68 with trips to the 2018 Central Jersey Group 3 and 2022 South Jersey Group 3 championship games.
"Roy Heck hired me to coach on his staff and I coached baseball at Pemberton," Derry said. "It was my first job after college. It's where I started this journey as a teacher and coach. I know deep down in my core that I can be the guy that will bring that Pemberton pride back, and bring that stability back, to that basketball program. I cannot be more excited."
Derry has ******* istant coaching experience under two familiar Burlington County coaches, Heck and, most recently, Derry served as an ******* istant at Rancocas Valley under coach Jay Flanagan.
"I can't be more appreciative of the guys that have shaped me to be the person I am," Derry said. " I started my high school basketball career under coach Barry Harper. I learned from my college coach. I've been surrounded by so many great individuals who showed me how to be the best version of myself. We want to teach the kids that they can be the best version of themselves."

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS NFL ***** yst Tony Romo "accepts full responsibility for his actions" in the July 23 incident that led to his arrest in Milwaukee and subsequent four citations, including operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
"Tony accepts full responsibility for his actions and has taken proactive steps to ensure that this isolated civil matter is properly resolved," the spokesperson said Aug. 27 in a statement to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and other news organizations. "We are working with local authorities to bring this matter to a close and we are communicating with CBS about next steps."
Earlier in the day, Romo received citations for first-offense operating while intoxicated, unsafe passing on the right side and possessing open intoxicants in his vehicle. He had previously been cited for refusing to take an intoxication test after his arrest.
Romo, a Burlington native, was arrested July 23 after a deputy pulled him over on southbound Interstate 43, and he performed poorly on a field sobriety test, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. He was in the area to participate in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf event in West Bend and told the deputy that he was on his way to a family member's house after the event concluded.
Following his arrest, CBS placed Romo on leave until further notice.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office has released a series of videos of NFL broadcaster and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo's arrest in Milwaukee last week.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel filed a public records request for the footage shortly after he was taken into custody on July 23.
In the videos, captured on body cameras, the Burlington-reared Romo, 46, appears compliant, though at points seemed confused or unable to hear instructions deputies gave him during their OWI investigation.
A sheriff's office arrest report says Romo was pulled over driving southbound on Interstate 43 in Milwaukee shortly after 6 p.m. because of a bad lane change.
The deputy approached the driver's side of the black Jeep. Romo, who was alone in the vehicle, told the deputy he was coming from a golf tournament, the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf event in West Bend, and heading to his grandparents' home.

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS Sports ***** yst Tony Romo has been arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence in Wisconsin.
Romo was pulled over at 6:18 CDT in Milwaukee on Thursday, July 23, according to NBC News, where he was arrested after allegedly failing a sobriety test. He was going southbound on Interstate 43. Taken into custody, Romo has since been booked and released with a court date currently scheduled for September 21, which would coincide with Monday night of the NFL's Week 2 slate.
The top CBS matchup that weekend is expected to be the Pittsburgh Steelers visiting the AFC-champion New England Patriots. Romo's arrest came just hours after he'd wrapped an interview with NBC's affiliate WTMJ.
For those who may need a refresher on Romo's career, the quarterback played for 13 seasons in the NFL, all with the Dallas Cowboys, beginning in 2006. Romo has worked alongside announcer Jim Nantz as CBS's lead NFL broadcasting crew.
Romo is originally from Wisconsin, having grown up in Burlington, and was visiting to play in the 2026 Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament, which has become a yearly tradition for the athlete. "It is as tough as you are going to play. I think in almost any golf tournament. You get the best guys around, the competition, and then the guys who work with the WSGA — they are really special people," Romo told WTMJ.

Romo was pulled over at 6:18 CDT in Milwaukee on Thursday, July 23, according to NBC News, where he was arrested after allegedly failing a sobriety test. He was going southbound on Interstate 43. Taken into custody, Romo has since been booked and released with a court date currently scheduled for September 21, which would coincide with Monday night of the NFL's Week 2 slate.
The top CBS matchup that weekend is expected to be the Pittsburgh Steelers visiting the AFC-champion New England Patriots. Romo's arrest came just hours after he'd wrapped an interview with NBC's affiliate WTMJ.
For those who may need a refresher on Romo's career, the quarterback played for 13 seasons in the NFL, all with the Dallas Cowboys, beginning in 2006. Romo has worked alongside announcer Jim Nantz as CBS's lead NFL broadcasting crew.
Romo is originally from Wisconsin, having grown up in Burlington, and was visiting to play in the 2026 Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament, which has become a yearly tradition for the athlete. "It is as tough as you are going to play. I think in almost any golf tournament. Jay Flanagan is going to experience life down the shore in the wintertime.
The longtime boys’ basketball coach in Burlington County was approved for the same position at Lower Cape May High School by the board of education on Wednesday.
Flanagan, who spends his summers in North Wildwood, recently retired as a teacher and coach at Rancocas Valley after two decades. He led the Red Devils to a 15-14 record last winter, raising his win total to 350 with the RV program in 20 years.
“I am excited for this new opportunity,” Flanagan said in an email on Wednesday night. “I never thought I would leave RV but things have changed there with a new administration. I had a great 20 years there and will truly miss it.
“I cannot thank my former players who stayed loyal to the program over the years enough for their support. I am still so close to many of them. The next two years will be very strong for RV basketball. The returning players are great young men with a lot of promise. I wish them nothing but the best and I will surely be one of their biggest fans from afar.

When you read about old baseball players, doesn’t it seem like they led more interesting lives than their current-day brethren? It seems so to me. Consider the life of Gus Zernial.
Zernial was born in Beaumont, Texas in 1923, one of ten children. He was a multi-sport star at Beaumont High and, after graduation, played one season with the Waycroft Bears, an unaffiliated team in the Class D Georgia-Florida League.
At the end of the season, Zernial joined the United States Navy, where he served three years as a radio technician.
The time in the Navy was good for Zernial. He went in at 6 ft. and 180 pounds and came out at 6’2″ and 220 pounds.
In 1946, he played for the Class C Burlington Bees and led the Carolina League in home runs (41) and slugging percentage. He also hit .333, drove in 111, and scored 114 times.

After a tremendous season ending with the program’s second NCAA Tournament appearance, UConn women’s hockey had three players selected in this year’s PWHL Draft, a new school record. All three of this year’s picks originally hail from Canada, landed in the third or fourth rounds, and are heading to expansion franchises.
Tia Chan was the first Husky off the board, at 28th overall, to San Jose with the fourth pick in the 3rd round. The All-American goalie and back-to-back Hockey East Goaltender of the Year is UConn’s all-time leader in wins (70), save percentage (.946), and shutouts (25). This past season, the Hamilton, Ontario native was named National Women’s Goalie of the Year, setting or tying single-season program records for wins (27), saves (1,122), and save percentage (.951).

Just days after the Principal Charity Classic made its way to the Hawkeye State, a few of Iowa’s public golf courses have been listed among America’s best.
Golfweek recently released its rankings of the best public-access golf courses in the country. The popular golf publication receives input from more than 800 raters globally to put this list together. It bases the ranking on 10 specific factors from the integrity of design to conditioning and ecology.
Golfweek lists 750 courses on its rankings, including five from Iowa.
