As the newest member of the Minnesota Timberwolves, young swingman Jonathan ******* inga couldn't be more excited about his basketball future. After a difficult parting with the Warriors, ******* inga had some tough decisions to make this summer, but he would say it worked out for the best with a two-year, $12.4 million deal to join Anthony Edwards and his rising young team.
Thursday evening marked ******* inga's introductory press conference with the organization, where he answered all sorts of questions relating to his free-agent process and expectations for the future. Notably, he also spoke about teaming up with LaMelo Ball, someone he called his best passing teammate ever (yes, even over Curry).
"I think his ability to pass the ball, I was watching him work out yesterday and I was watching him and the way he can pass the ball, it's incredible," said ******* inga. "I've played with so many point guards in my career, but I've never played with anybody that can pass as good as LaMelo. I'm looking forward to it; I'm excited."
In ******* inga's defense, Ball is famously skilled offensively with career averages of 20.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 7.3 ******* ists, 1.4 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game on 41.8% shooting. While he often likes to get flashy with the ball, he's undeniably elite as a playmaker and passer, opening up the floor for teammates and adding a layer of flexibility to the rotation.

The FIBA World Cup is underway, and the United States women are once again the heavy favorite to walk away with the gold medal. The US hasn't lost in the World Cup since 2006, and this year's roster is stacked with both veteran and up-and-coming talent.

Stillman Valley High School has announced the Athletic/Activities Hall of Fame Class of 2026, recognizing a coach, former student-athletes, community supporters and championship teams for their achievements and contributions to Cardinal programs.
The inductees will be honored as part of Homecoming festivities Sept. 25, according to a community announcement. The class includes girls basketball coach Bobby Mellon, former student-athletes Michelle ******* er Rogers and Dan Godfread, Friends of Athletics honorees James and Russ Elliot, the 2002-03 Scholastic Bowl Team and the 1989-90 Chess Team.
Mellon has led the Stillman Valley girls basketball program since 2010 and has compiled a 252-105 varsity record. During his tenure, the Cardinals won five regional ******* les, two sectional championships and a Big Northern Conference championship. Mellon also has earned Illinois Basketball Coaches ******* ociation District Coach of the Year honors five times.
Fager Rogers, a member of the Class of 1996, competed in volleyball, basketball and track and field. She helped two girls basketball teams qualify for the state tournament and qualified for the IHSA State Track Meet in the hurdles. Her honors included Girls Track MVP and SVHS Female Athlete of the Year.
Godfread, a graduate from the Class of 1985, became one of the school's most accomplished basketball players before continuing his career at the University of Evansville. He finished his collegiate career with 1,386 points, 737 rebounds and 226 blocked shots while earning first-team all-conference recognition.

It's been a long time since former Arizona star Aari McDonald played in a WNBA game. That has come to an end with the first-place Minnesota Lynx announcing her signing on Monday afternoon.
McDonald was injured last August while playing for the Indiana Fever. She tried to come back by playing in the Unrivaled 3×3 league during the WNBA offseason, but she was again sidelined by injury. As WNBA training camp approached this year, she said she would not be in camp but she would return this season. It took a while, but now she's not only returning, but she's doing it with the best team in the league.
The Lynx lead the WNBA standings with a 31-9 record and four games left in the regular season. The league returns to play on Sept. 18 after a break for the FIBA Women's World Cup where many top players are representing their countries. That event runs from Sept. 4-13, but the league shut down on Aug. 31.
McDonald sat out a large chunk of last season after being waived by the LA Sparks in training camp. She eventually landed with the Indiana Fever, where she quickly became a fan favorite of the passionate fan base and a fixture in the local community.
She averaged 9.8 points on 42.9 percent shooting, 4.7 **** ists, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in 26.3 minutes per game for Indiana last season. She appeared in 20 games with 13 starts. It was a career high in games started, minutes per game, field goal percentage, **** ists per game, and rebounds per game.

All of the hype and the hoopla of the offseason was quickly wiped away for Notre Dame. Despite the "leave no doubt" mantra and the focus on starting fast — the football gods had something to say about it with Wisconsin and Lambeau Field. Western Michigan isn't blaming Big Ten officials for their decision to add a second back to the clock ahead of Michigan's Hail Mary.
Broncos head coach Lance Taylor and school president Russ Kavalhuna had a news conference Sunday afternoon to explain their school's side of Michigan's improbable 13-12 win. After the Wolverines' first Hail Mary attempt fell incomplete with seemingly no time remaining, the Big Ten's replay review officials added a second back to the clock as they determined that WMU defensive back Micah Davis jumped from out of bounds and touched the ball before time expired.
On UM's second try, Bryce Underwood hit JJ Buchanan for the game-winning touchdown.
Kavalhuna admitted Sunday that he wanted to appeal the decision in the moment, but realized that there was no way to do so. And he said that after further investigations and discussions with Big Ten commissioner Tony Pettitti and the conference's replay staff, there was a slight difference between the clock on NBC's broadcast and the official game clock used by the Big Ten.
"It is just a discrepancy," Kavalhuna said. "I would say what the viewing public see and the officials see are different. And that's clear. I will say, I've looked into this pretty closely and I used to be a federal prosecutor — I don't discern anything unfair or untoward in this process. A little bit of personal story-time to start this week's Sinners & Saints. Yesterday was the first Roma match that my girlfriend watched all the way through in a serious way. She's a fan of football in general, but follows the NWSL most closely. Thanks to my work with Chiesa di Totti, she knows what's going on in a general way with Roma most of the time, and we've both been thinking for a while that it would be great for us to watch Roma together this season. Her main experience with seeing me follow Roma has been witnessing my frustration: she knows Roma is generally a club with talented players that fail to meet expectations, a club always just on the outside looking in.
Because of some scheduling issues for the first two matches, yesterday was her first time watching a match this season in full (whereas previous seasons, she didn't want to watch because it was "kind of depressing." Fair enough.). 45 minutes in, she was impressed albeit deeply frustrated with Roma's inability to get the ball past Marco Carnesecchi. 85 minutes in, I thought I was introducing her to the apotheosis of what happens when Roma Happens; when no amount of combined talent, no amount of good form, no amount of opportunities on goal seems to be capable of defeating the destiny of Roma to be just one tier below the best of Italian and European football, for eternity.
Then, of course, came the six minutes where Roma turned a 0-1 loss into a 2-1 win. I was on the edge of my seat (literally, my Uber nearly got into an accident) when Matías Soulé scored his stoppage time goal to preserve Roma's perfect record and keep the hopes of something greater for this season alive. I'm still feeling shocked and thrilled that the Giallorossi pulled this one off, and what a game to use to truly introduce my girlfriend to Roma. Roma did concede, and Roma did look as if they were going to lose this one for most of the second half; given that, I had to anoint at least one player a sinner. But make no mistake: this match felt more exciting to me than either of the multi-goal clean sheets that started the season, and in my book is a far better signal for just how high this Roma can go than either the win against Lecce or Fiorentina.
One quick aside before diving into the sinners and saints: my love for Mile Svilar knows no bounds, but if yesterday's match taught me just about anything regarding a non-Roma player, it's that I want Marco Carnesecchi to be Italy's goalkeeper moving forward. What an incredible performance; this one could have and should have been a 5-1 rout, if not for his 9 saves.
He got the game-winner in stoppage time, so he has to be the first saint on the list. MatìGol (can we start calling him that?) put in an excellent shift as a substitute, garnering himself an 8.7 rating from SofaScore after coming on for Rodrigo Mora in the 54th minute and practically willing the Giallorossi to the win. The No. 16 Wolverines beat the Broncos 13-12 on Saturday night on Bryce Underwood's Hail Mary to JJ Buchanan as time expired. It's an incredible throw and catch; Underwood fired a rocket as he was getting hit and Buchanan went up in traffic to make a fantastic contested grab. But it's also a play that isn't getting the appreciation it deserves because of the way the end of the game unfolded.

WMU appeared to have escaped with a 12-7 upset win after Underwood's pass didn't touch a WMU player who had stepped out of bounds until there was no time remaining on the clock. However, officials ruled after a replay review that there was, somehow, still one second remaining.
After the game, Taylor was asked in his news conference about the play. He was diplomatic and said that it was also an opportunity for his defense.
"I have not seen the clip, several people have mentioned it to me that the game was over. I think one, [MAC commissioner John Steinbrecher] has already reached out. Normally he handles those type of situations and reviews. I thought that the crew tonight did a really nice job handling multiple close calls and review situations. We had several where the spot was questioned and reviewed and those calls went our way the the review went our way. So, listen, I'll let our commissioner and those guys handle it.

With only a few seconds on the clock, Michigan attempted a 47-yard Hail Mary that fell incomplete as time seemingly expired. A replay review predictably ensued, with the Big Ten's replay center eventually deciding to put one second back on the clock.
Michigan's second Hail Mary attempt had a better outcome, with the Wolverines pulling off a wild 13-12 win.
However, anyone with the ability to pause and slo-mo the replay shown on television can tell you the clock clearly struck zero while the ball was in the air on the first attempt. The clock should have stopped as soon as Western Michigan safety Micah Davis touched the ball because he had stepped out of bounds. But, again, time expired while the ball was in the air.
There should not have been a final play, as far as any outside observe can tell. It is rare that a blown call feels this obvious, this blatantly irreconcilable with the plain fact of a clock on a screen.

AUSTIN, Texas — A season with high expectations gets under way for the No. 5 Texas Longhorns on Saturday against the Texas State Bobcats at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in a prelude to the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes coming to the Forty Acres next week.
After Texas State received the opening kickoff, a touchback deep into the end zone, Texas gave up a first down on three short completions, but inflicted a tackle for loss on a second-down running play and got pressure on Bobcats quarterback Brad Jackson to force a throwaway on third down under pressure from fifth-year defensive tackle Hero Kanu.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Cam Cook rushed for 142 yards and two short touchdowns, Michael Hawkins Jr. threw for one score and passed for another TD, and West Virginia held on for a 31-24 win over Coastal Carolina in the teams' season opener Saturday.
