The Cincinnati Bengals dodged a serious disaster to start training camp when Shemar Stewart went down with a scary-looking injury.
Since, it's been nothing but good news on that injury front. Word broke that the 2025 first-round pick would not, in fact, miss the season. Even better, the rumblings suggested that Week 1 might be on the table.
About that.
Wednesday practice footage from Local 12's Yanni Tragellis revealed that Stewart had officially returned to practice for the first time since July 29.
After, Stewart himself told Laurel Pfahler of the Dayton Daily News that he thought he heard something pop at the time of injury, so he's just happy to be back out there after a hyperextension.

I remember thinking "why are these views not being challenged in the copy?" when first reading Sophie Cunningham's comments in an ESPN profile last month.
The story dealt with Cunningham's status as a 3-and-D player who toes the line between effective and reckless in her aggression on the court. Buried deep in the story is a quote where she says she does not oppose trans people but "I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."
My friend and fellow journalist Frankie de la Cretaz sent me the profile lamenting that this quote was left to stand on its own, without any context. Leaving it unchallenged validated Cunningham's claim that trans women are "biological men," and that trans women were harming girls in women's sports. There is no evidence of either claim.
The changes trans athletes go through with hormone replacement therapy as part of medical transition are complex. But they rewire a body to match the ******* a trans person identifies with. That's why organizations let them participate in sports consistent with their identity once they have reached a certain hormonal threshold.
There were nevertheless very few trans elite athletes, because there are very few elite athletes in general. After the Olympics allowed trans women to compete alongside women for the 2004 games in Athens, only one transgender woman has made it since: weightlifter Laurel Hubbard, at Tokyo in 2021. She failed to complete a single lift.

After the Men's First Team's 2-0 win over Parma on Matchday 2 of the 2026/27 Serie A season, coach Luciano Spalletti, Guglielmo Vicario, and Nico Gonzalez shared their thoughts.
"I really liked how we played, both in the first and second halves. We weren't great at finding the right ******* e for triangles to get shots off, and then we were a little disorganised in the box. We put in a lot of crosses without finding that decisive play. But, we played well and with a clear objective, with quality in our play, and constant pressure that let us spend a lot of time in their half. Of course, you need to find that decisiveness as well, you need to anticipate, and to have the quality to capitalise on the work done. We probably weren't precise enough to trouble them more, but we created a lot of chances.
"[Randal] Kolo Muani can play on his own or with a strike partner. He's quick, skilled, and has a lot of quality. He needs to be more ruthless in certain situations because he has everything it takes to make a difference. He knows how to create ******* e for himself and I think, in all, he played well today."
"I was feeling a lot, as I've already said it's a dream that's being realised for me. Now we need to go again with enthusiasm, humility and balance. It's a good night for me, and for the team. Winning is never a given, it's what we work for, but we have to respect our opponent and they're always tough, so this win today was earned. We'll be back to work tomorrow [Sunday], so there's no time to rest on our laurels. We'll be back to work right away with next Sunday in mind."
"I'm happy for the team, we've been working well all week as well. We prepared well for today. I'm happy for the fans, and because I scored and we won."

The reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks are not content to rest on their laurels.
We know this because they have the second-most starters returning from a championship team in the last 15 years. It would be natural for basically the same group of players and coaches to have the same exact ambition: Continuing what they started with February's Lombardi Trophy victory and going for the legendary repeat.
We also know the Seahawks are not content to sit back based on the money they've thrown around this offseason, and even dating back to last summer. Seattle has spent so much money on key members of its current championship core for the foreseeable future that you almost wonder whether the currency they're using is actually Monopoly money. Where does it keep coming from? Oh right, the Seahawks have the Park Place and Boardwalk squares, as well as all the railroads.
With the Thursday news that the Seahawks had extended All-Pro defensive lineman Leonard Williams to a three-year, $90 million contract (with $56 million guaranteed), their plan for the rest of the decade is in full focus. The Seahawks clearly believe they can wring out another championship or two with the current make-up of their team (they are probably correct), because why else would they throw out $634 million in new contracts over the last calendar year? For the fun of it? C'mon now. By total guaranteed money, the recent extensions awarded over just the last several weeks to Williams, star cornerback Devon Witherspoon, and arguably the NFL's best receiver in Jaxon Smith-Njigba come out to over $273 million.
That's, uh, a lot of cheddar. Let's put it this way: If the Seahawks didn't think they could wrack up a dynasty of sorts, they wouldn't be handing out proverbial blank checks like this all at once. (Note: It would also be a lot harder to spend this money if quarterback Sam Darnold wasn't on such a team-friendly contract. But here we are!)

Kentucky Derby and Belmont champion Golden Tempo headlines a stellar field in the Travers Stakes. (Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)
Kentucky Derby champion and Belmont Stakes winner Golden Tempo will look to complete his own version of the Triple Crown when he competes in the Travers' Stakes at Saratoga. As it enters its 157th year of existence, the "Mid-Summer Derby" is the oldest Stakes race specifically for three-year-old horses in the United States. The prestige and $1.25 million in purse money usually brings out a star-studded field of entrants and 2026 is absolutely no different. Nine other accomplished runners will challenge Golden Tempo including Kentucky Derby runner-up and Jim Dandy Stakes winner Renegade. Let's take a look at the ten runners and provide a thought on each in what should be an excellent betting race for the speculating public. The runners will be listed by post position with trainer, jockey, and morning line provided. Carded as race 13, the Travers has an expected post time of 6:35 pm eastern time.
Son of Candy Ride won the Louisiana Derby in his second career start but was 10th in the Kentucky Derby and 5th in the Belmont Stakes. Inside draw will be a challenge and not sure how strong this Market is here. Invest elsewhere.
Unbeaten in two career starts and won the Indiana Derby in his last start. Will this son of Gun Runner be a bit too wet behind the ears for a race like this? Conditioner is top notch, but this is awfully big step up in competition. Not so sure this Change will be leading at the end.

Debbie Kent first went to the Lansing Laurels softball clinic when she was just 13. She was still too young to try out for the squad, but she became the batgirl.
Little did she know then that eventually she would become one of the best pitchers to ever wear the Laurels jersey, and now Kent will be honored as part of the Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame's 2026 class.
"I found out that my friends had nominated me for it, and it's a great honor," Kent said. "I really am very appreciative of it. My teammates and coaches are really the ones who should be getting it."
As soon as Kent was old enough to participate during the Laurels clinic in the early 1970s, her pitching prowess was quickly noticed. She made the team and thrived on the mound from ages 16-18, and her entire family got to travel with her to see the Laurels play across the Midwest.
"That was the most important thing to me, having my family there to support me," Kent said. "We always knew when my dad arrived because he had a cowbell and he would start ringing it and you could hear it from two blocks away so everyone would know he was there."

For the past decade, Brian and Rose Armstrong have been full-time caregivers for their grandson, now 11.
The financial toll on their retirement savings is a grim reality for the 66-year-old Mount Laurel, N.J., residents, who retired two years ago.
Folks like the Armstrongs, who are caregiving for an aging parent, spouse, or other family member, face greater financial strain, lower retirement confidence, and more worry about the future — and millions of people are in that boat.
A staggering 63 million Americans — nearly 1 in 4 adults — provide unpaid care to an adult with health or functional needs or to a child with a serious medical condition or disability, according to AARP. That's up from 53 million in 2020.
People often have little choice, but there are financial repercussions for retirement — especially one that can span three decades or more.

The Oregon Ducks are well stocked at the quarterback position in the near future, with potential No. 1 pick Dante Moore leading the way in 2026 and former five-star and two-year Nebraska Cornhuskers starter Dylan Raiola waiting in the wings likely with two years of eligibility remaining. Five-star Will Mencl is also set to join the Ducks as part of the 2027 class.
But that doesn't mean head coach Dan Lanning and offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer are resting on their laurels. They've been involved in 2028 five-star Donald Tabron II's recruitment recently, and were included among his top three, which also consisted of the Texas A&M Aggies and LSU Tigers.
On Saturday, he officially announced that he will make a commitment decision on August 15 on the Rivals YouTube channel.
Rated as a five-star, Tabron is the No. 3 quarterback and No. 29 player overall in the 2028 class, per 247Sports Composite. He competes for Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan, where he's the 2nd-ranked player in the state. Moore is also a Detroit native, potentially making it two extremely talented Ducks quarterbacks from the Motor City.
But it will take some convincing for that to happen, as a crystal ball with 100% confidence has been placed for Tabron to land with at Texas A&M. The Ducks have both flipped and surprised with gaining the commitment of a number of prospects before, with Tabron now the next target in that category.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has responded to India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant's public appeal for help in acquiring land in his home state, ***** uring the cricketer that the government will extend all possible ***** istance in accordance with the rules.

Pant, who is currently in Sri Lanka with the Indian team ahead of the two-Test series, had taken to social media platform X in the early hours of Saturday to seek the chief minister's intervention after struggling to purchase land in Uttarakhand for nearly three years.
In a heartfelt post, the 28-year-old revealed his desire to move his base from Delhi to Uttarakhand and build his first home in the state where his roots lie. Pant said that despite searching for suitable land for the past three years, he had been unable to find a property that met his requirements.

"pushkardhami ***** o sir how's you ??? It's a long time for me especially being local from Uttrakhand . I have been trying to buy land to shift my base from Delhi to Uttrakhand and I couldn't find anything facilitating and big to live here I love my Uttrakhand. Pant later clarified that he was not seeking any special favour or free allotment from the government. Instead, he said he was willing to purchase the land at the government's prescribed rates if the administration could facilitate the process.

"A gift would be lovey for representation out states at the highest level internationally stages but if you allow me I wanna buy it fromGovernment and on there rates at least I can have my first house built in my own state and our state please be helpful. Seriously didn't know how to do it," he further wrote.
Responding to Pant's appeal, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised the India star for bringing laurels to Uttarakhand and welcomed his desire to return to his home state.

"Dear Rishabh, you are the pride of Uttarakhand. With your splendid performances and achievements, you have illuminated the name of Devbhoomi across the country and the world. Your love for your motherland and your desire to return and contribute here are truly commendable," Dhami posted on X.

The first week of Dallas Cowboys training camp is over and the pads start popping on Monday but there is already been some fireworks when it comes to standouts, stars and whispers of potential additions.
As much fans and the Cowboys want to get excited about the young guys, quarterback Dak Prescott remains the unquestioned star of team. The game has simply slowed down for him. MVP talk should be real for Prescott in this offense.
Left tackle remains a huge concern for the Cowboys and that means Tyler Guyton. As much success as the offense had last season despite the struggles of Guyton and Nate Thomas, it's not lost on the Cowboys that Prescott got sacked 31 times, fourth most his career, and got hit a ton. That he didn't get sacked more was due to his ability to move in the pocket and avoid sacks but he got as he was delivering the ball too many times for the Cowboys.
Receiver CeeDee Lamb is on board with Prescott's GOTI nickname, Greatest Offense There Is, for the Cowboys after what they accomplished last season. He said they are not resting on their laurels and want to better and more explosive in 2026. That starts with him staying healthy for a full season and the offense being better in the red zone. The were 16th in red zone touchdown percentage last season. "It's a standard for us," he said of the GOTI nickname. "Obviously, we know and we pay our dues to everybody and all the offenses that've been successful. And shout out to The Greatest Show on Turf, as we all know. They're the standard, you know what I'm saying? "But, as for us, we hold ourselves to a higher standard, and we just gotta be able to execute. We can say these things and have these acronyms for ourselves but, at the end of the day, we've got to come out here every day and execute. And we are reminded of that every day. That's our stepping stone, and making small, gradual steps every day, and being the best version of ourselves. You know the playmakers that we have, so you look top down, it's real."
Linebacker remains a position of focus for the Cowboys. There are still concerns about DeMarvion Overshown staying healthy for 17 games, an issue that is even more acute if he is asked to play middle linebacker and take on blocks for a full season. Overshown is at his best at weakside linebacker he and run sideline to sideline and blitz off the edge. The Cowboys tried to trade for Jordyn Brooks from the Dolphins in offseason. It's a trade they will likely revisit.

Jamie Lee Curtis arguably is one of the kindest people in Hollywood. Or at least, she always has nice things to say when opportunity presents itself. One example is the tribute Curtis gave to her BFF Jodie Foster at the Oscars in 2024. Another example is her heartfelt tribute to Robert Carradine. Shortly after his death on February 23, 2026, Curtis took to social media to write about her relationship with Carradine.
In her Facebook post, Curtis recalled how she met Carradine on the "Dinah Shore Show" and how, thanks to the seating arrangement, Carradine ended up kissing her. She called it "a very public meet- cute." She then detailed how she lived in Laurel Canyon in the late 70s with Carradine and his daughter Ever. She sweetly called him "my first crush in the movies" and ended the post stating that she and Carradine stayed friends after they broke up. She also maintained a friendship with Ever.
Curtis did not stop there. Over on Ever Carradine's Instagram tribute to her father, she left the following comment: "You both were my first loves. You so little and scared? Him so fast and funny and strong. He taught me what a father was. Laurel Canyon in the late 70s. Another time, another place. MY HAND IN YOURS, Everdawn."

Folks who are getting stressed or tetchy about an apparent lack of transfer activity, in my own humble opinion, just don't get the positivity, the strong base and the long-term planning that our owner and directors have developed and put into place for this club — they deserve huge credit and support from the fan base.
I get that we all have different opinions and varied emotions when it comes to something like the transfer window, but for me it's profoundly disrespectful to think that they don't know what they're doing, that they're going to let the club slide this coming season or that they aren't working extremely hard (and probably have been for over a year) to identify and bring in the right players, and not just buy for the sake of it to keep the noisy minority quiet.
I've seen enough knee-jerk signings and misfits over the years to see out my life on this earth. I'm extremely confident in and proud of this current regime to do the right thing and to continue to steer this club in the right direction.
From where we've been for most of my life, this is all superb and dreamland territory — anyone who thinks they're resting on their laurels and not following a well-structured plan needs to calm down and keep the faith.
I think we'll be late into the transfer market because of the level of players we're targeting.

Let's be honest: what this football club has achieved over the last 12 months is nothing short of a miracle. From Wembley play-off joy to securing a spot in Europe next season, watching the Lads completely defy the odds has been the ride of a lifetime. But as the old saying goes, the reward for good work is just more work. With the Europa League about to test the absolute limits of our squad depth, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and the recruitment team can't afford to rest on their laurels.
While our attacking talent routinely grabs the headlines, anyone who watched us grind out results last season knows our defensive foundation is where the real magic happens. Yet there's a glaring, asymmetric elephant in the room – our severe lack of a natural, senior, left-footed centre-back to go alongside Omar Alderete.
So, where do we look? Do we dip back into the European market for another data-driven gem, look for proven domestic pedigree or gamble on high-potential youth?
Let's dive into the state of the current backline and look at the realistic options on Sunderland's radar to solve our biggest tactical puzzle.
When Ghisolfi brought Paraguay international Omar Alderete to Wearside, it felt like the missing piece of our When Ghisolfi brought Paraguay international Omar Alderete to Wearside, it felt like the missing piece of our defensive jigsaw. A naturally left-footed, aggressive and experienced La Liga operator, he brought an immediate sense of balance to our backline. Across his appearances, we saw the full Alderete package – crunching tackles, an immense aerial presence and a real willingness to progress the ball.

While all the spotlight of the football world is on the men's World Cup in North America, the USA also gave us a huge moment in women's football when Alexia Putellas was unveiled as a London City Lionesses player at a presentation in New York after 14 years at Barcelona.
Indeed, it's hard to under estimate the significance of this transfer considering Putellas' calibre: A two-time women's world player of the year and among the leading contenders for the award again this year, Putellas won four Champions Leagues with Barcelona, ten Spanish league **** les and, last season, every one of the four trophies she competed for.
A world champion with Spain, Putellas is regarded as one of the greatest European footballers in history and spent her entire career in Spanish football, also representing Levante and Espanyol. A standard-bearer for quality football, the forward saw her Barcelona contract come to an end and, after almost a decade and a half, chose to move on to London City Lionesses.
On its official website, the London City Lionesses makes clear its inspiration in Cynisca, the Spartan princess who became the first female Olympic champion in sporting history.
The daughter of the Spartan king Archidamus II and sister of King Agesilaus II, a famous warrior, Cynisca won laurels in 396 and 392 BC. At the time, women were forbidden from competing in the Olympic Games.

As if his first contribution to the 2026 FIFA World Cup wasn’t memorable enough, or indeed his second, Julian Quinones clearly wasn’t finished there.
On Wednesday morning, the Al Qadsiah striker continued to fly the flag for the Roshn Saudi League on the global stage, when he struck a sensational opening goal to set co-hosts Mexico on their way past Ecuador and into the tournament's last 16.
Of course, Quinones’ sublime finish on 22 minutes at a packed Estadio Azteca would’ve come as no surprise to fans of the Saudi Arabian top flight; after all, the Mexico hotshot top-scored in last season’s RSL with 33 goals to land the 2025-26 golden boot.
Determined not to rest of his laurels, Quinones has transferred his club form to his country - and in some style, too.
He etched his name in history by netting the 2026 World Cup's opening goal, in last month’s 2-0 victory against South Africa, swiftly collecting a Man of the Match award as well.

The American League is wide open. Yes, the Toronto Blue Jays are 9.5 games out of first place in the American League East, and it doesn’t look like they will catch the New York Yankees, but that doesn’t really matter. Despite being 39-41, the Blue Jays are currently locked into the third and final Wild Card spot. That means, if the season ended today, Toronto would make the playoffs with a .488 winning percentage. However, there are five teams within two games of them, so it’s certainly not the time to rest on their laurels. Instead, the Blue Jays need to push forward, so let’s take a look at three trades they should make at the MLB trade deadline.
RELATED: MLB Insider Joel Sherman names 4 Yankees who could be traded at the deadline
Jeff Hoffman hasn’t been the answer in the closer role for Toronto, and I’m not sure he recovered from the World Series home run he allowed last year. His early-season struggles relegated the right-hander to a setup role, and Louis Varland has stepped up. He’s already up to 16 saves on the season, and his 0.84 ERA really can’t get much better. However, he also has no prior closing experience before this season.
With the Blue Jays not being able to truly count on Hoffman, more depth and experience is needed. The Boston Red Sox aren’t going anywhere this season, and Chapman could be just what the Blue Jays need to lock down the late innings. With 12.05 strikeouts, 14 saves, and a 2.08 ERA this season, the left-hander hasn’t lost a step.
It’s clear that Toronto can’t rely on Max Scherzer, so by that thought process, do they want to rely on Patrick Corbin and the health of Shane Bieber?
