Americans have paid about $97 billion more for fuel since the Iran war started in late February, roughly $740 extra per household, according to CNN. President Trump says prices will come down after the midterms. The CEO of Chevron just said publicly he does not see how that happens quickly.
Mike Wirth, Chevron's chairman and chief executive, spoke at a University of Texas at Austin energy conference on September 11. He told the audience that the mechanisms that helped absorb the oil supply shock earlier in the conflict have largely been used up, and that prices are more likely to rise than fall over the next few months.
When the U.S.-Iran conflict began, the oil market had several ways to handle the disruption. Countries could release crude from strategic reserves. Commercial inventories could be drawn down. The U.S. eased restrictions on sanctioned crude stored on vessels at sea. Those measures helped limit the initial price spike.
"Those have largely now played out," Wirth said. The energy system no longer has the buffers it had when the war began.
The loss of flexibility became more acute after attacks knocked out a major Saudi crude pipeline that had been bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. That single disruption put an estimated 2.5 million barrels of oil per day in limbo, tightening a market that was already running short on supply.

GREEN BAY – Even before he took 3 points off the board for a fourth-and-1 attempt in the fourth quarter, Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur was antsy about how much he was using rookie kicker Trey Smack.
The modern NFL has provided touchdowns over field goals. In a road environment, LaFleur was acutely aware of how much his offense was settling for field goals.
"Anytime in this league, if you kick enough field goals," LaFleur said, "you're able to get beat. That's essentially what happened. We kicked too many field goals when we had opportunities. We didn't take advantage of short fields at times."
By the fourth quarter, the Packers twice had settled for a field goal after reaching the red zone. That doesn't include a drive before halftime that started on Minnesota's 36-yard line that resulted in no points, mostly because of penalties.
When Smack connected on a 40-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, his fourth of the game, the Packers had only an 8-point lead. Smack's missed extra point after the Packers' opening touchdown in the first quarter in part prevented the field goal from making it a two-possession lead, but so did the lack of red zone efficiency.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraq's government raced Saturday to contain the fallout after local Iran-backed militias were accused of attacking and shuttering a key Saudi pipeline.
Though an umbrella group of Iran-backed militias in Iraq denied their involvement, Iraq's government confirmed the attacks had originated from its territory. The government pledged to investigate and dismissed two senior officials.
The country is under mounting pressure to prevent local militias from aiding other Iran proxy groups across the region. The Iraqi government has set a Sept. 30 deadline for nonstate groups to disarm, but several of the most powerful militias have said they will not comply.
Pressure to disarm the militias is especially acute as the Iran-backed Houthi rebels make an advance across Yemen's west coast in a major setback to the Saudi-backed coalition that risks escalating the war in the region. The Houthis on Friday seized an island in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a key shipping lane through which around 12% of global trade passes.
Their virtual control of the strait could send global oil prices — already inflated by the six-month Iran-U.S. war — spiraling. The strait has become a vital commercial lane for Saudi oil ever since the Iran war disrupted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Apple is skipping the base iPhone 18 this fall in favor of three premium devices: the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable — rumored to be called the iPhone Ultra, Duo, or Fold. The foldable is the headline. It's expected to feature a 7.8-inch internal display, a 5.3-inch external screen, an A20 Pro chip, and a thickness of just 4.5mm unfolded, with pricing estimated between $1,999 and $2,399 and limited initial supply. It marks Apple's entry into the foldable category years after rivals — a potentially major new product cycle for one of the world's most valuable companies.
Here's the pattern every ETF investor should understand before today's close. Nearly two decades of data show that Apple tends to "sell the news" on launch day itself. AAPL averages a roughly 0.3% decline on iPhone launch days, with a median drop of about 0.6% — the classic case of anticipation being priced in before the reveal.
But the weakness rarely lasts. Apple has averaged a 0.5% gain the very next session (positive in 15 of 24 releases), and the longer-term picture is decisively bullish: AAPL has gained in the 60 days following an iPhone reveal 17 times since the original 2007 launch. The biggest such move was a 20% gain in the 60 days after the iPhone 11 reveal in 2019. In other words, launch-day dips have historically been buying opportunities, not warning signs. **** ysts have also downplayed fears about the ~$2,000 foldable price tag, arguing a premium halo product is unlikely to dent Apple's overall economics.
Apple is not just a stock — it's one of the largest weights in the entire ETF universe. As one of the biggest companies in the world, it sits near the top of the S&P 500, the Nasdaq-100, and virtually every technology index. That means a move in AAPL ripples through hundreds of funds, and millions of investors have significant Apple exposure without realizing it. When Apple moves on event day, these are the ETFs that move with it.
A handful of funds carry outsized Apple weights and will feel today's move most acutely. GXPT (Global X PureCap MSCI Information Technology ETF) holds roughly 19.2% in Apple — the highest of any diversified fund. FTEC (Fidelity MSCI Information Technology Index ETF) holds about 16.3%, VGT (Vanguard Information Technology ETF) about 16.2%, TRUT (VanEck Technology TruSector ETF) roughly 15.1%, and TOPT (iShares Top 20 U.S. Stocks ETF) around 14.5%. For these funds, Apple is a dominant driver of daily returns.

Christy Knowings died from cardiac arrest brought on by complications from asthma, according to a newly obtained death certificate. The former All That star died August 11 at a Los Angeles hospital, four days after a severe asthma attack reportedly left her with brain damage. She was 46.
The document, obtained by People on Sept. 2, identifies cardiac arrest as Knowings' immediate cause of death. Acute hypoxic respiratory failure—a life-threatening condition caused by insufficient oxygen—and status asthmaticus were listed among the conditions that led to her death. Asthma was named as the underlying cause.

A family member previously said that Knowings was hospitalized after suffering the asthma attack on August 7 and placed on life support. Her family made the decision to remove her from life support on August 11, and she died later that day.
A GoFundMe was established to help her parents cover mortuary and funeral costs. Knowings was remembered as "a compassionate, bright light whose warmth, kindness, and humor touched every life she encountered."

When people talk about shoplifting and organized retail crime (ORC), they tend to focus on the bottom-line impact on businesses. That makes sense because the numbers aren't small, according to the National Retail Federation's (NRF) The Impact of Theft & Violence 2026 report.
"The 2026 report demonstrates a concerning shift as criminals move beyond traditional shoplifting to more sophisticated external theft schemes, with retailers reporting higher rates of repeat offenders (50%), ORC-related incidents (40%), and walkout or pushout theft (37%). Fraud is also rising, with phone scams (69%), loyalty fraud (51%) and gift card theft or fraud (42%) increasing," the data showed.
The NRF, however, does not focus on how theft and thieves impact frontline retail workers.
A new report from HALOS, a bodycam company used by retailers like Walmart, Target, Kroger, TJ Maxx, H&M, and Aldi, shows that it does, and that the impact is quite severe.
"Two-thirds of frontline workers have experienced customer aggression acutely enough that they've considered leaving their job," according to HALOS' study of 2,500 frontline employees.

A trade group representing American automakers is urging Congress to permanently bar the sale of Chinese vehicles in the U.S.
In a letter to senior lawmakers, the Alliance for Automotive Innovation on Thursday called on them to "enact a permanent ban on the sale, import and manufacture of Chinese connected vehicles, hardware and software" in the U.S., citing China's alleged unfair trade practices, intellectual property theft and pattern of surveillance.
"This behavior is a feature of the Chinese approach and especially acute when it comes to China's strategy to dominate global automotive manufacturing and critical supply chains," wrote the group's president and CEO, John Bozzella.
Bozzella also said that non-Chinese automakers are unfairly disadvantaged by China's industrial and manufacturing policy, which the car industry group said threatens to undermine the U.S. automotive manufacturing sector.
U.S. automakers face mounting competition from Chinese rivals, including BYD, which is exporting more low-cost vehicles worldwide.

On August 25, Electromed (NASDAQ:ELMD) reported fiscal fourth-quarter results that extended a streak few small-cap medical device companies can claim: fifteen consecutive quarters of year-over-year revenue and profit growth. Net revenue hit a record $19.4 million, up 11.6% from a year earlier, and diluted earnings per share climbed to $0.39 from $0.25. Those headline numbers look clean, but they arrive alongside a leadership change and a hospital business moving in the opposite direction, which makes the quarter more complicated than the growth streak suggests.
Home care is still the whole story here. Home care revenue reached $17.7 million in the quarter, up 15.2% year over year, and for the full fiscal year it grew 16.3% to $66.6 million. That growth is coming from efficiency, not just headcount: on an annualized basis, home care revenue worked out to $1,145,000 per rep, above the company's own target range of $1 million to $1.1 million. Electromed ended the year with 64 direct sales reps and is targeting 67 filled territories for fiscal 2027, including two hospital account liaisons meant to catch patients as they move from acute care into home-based therapy.
The addressable market behind that growth still looks large. Management estimates roughly 1 million people in the U.S. carry a bronchiectasis diagnosis, yet only about 16% currently use high-frequency chest wall oscillation therapy, leaving close to 800,000 diagnosed patients untreated, plus more than 4 million additional people who may have the condition without a diagnosis at all. Payer access has kept pace with that opportunity.
Electromed closed the fiscal year with 87% of US covered lives under contract after signing 40 new payer agreements and adding 6 million covered lives. Its Smart Order e-prescribing tool handled 45% of fourth-quarter orders and shipped them noticeably faster than fax submissions, which matters as CMS rules phase out fax-based ordering by May 2028. All of this sits on a debt-free balance sheet, with cash growing to $20.5 million even after $3.9 million in share repurchases during the year.
The weaker spots are easy to miss next to those numbers. Hospital revenue fell 29% in the fourth quarter, which CEO James Cunniff attributed to a sales cycle that is "inherently less predictable than our other channels." The distributor channel grew just 2% in the quarter, and combined, the non-home care business grew only 6.7% for the full year versus 16.3% in home care, meaning nearly all of Electromed's growth is coming from one channel. SG&A expenses rose 8.7% to $42.7 million for the year, driven mainly by higher sales, marketing, and reimbursement compensation, and accounts receivable climbed to $29.8 million from $24.7 million as the business scaled up.

Christy Knowings' cause of death has been revealed.
The actor and comedian, who was 46, died from a cardiac arrest on 11 August.
The former Nickelodeon star's death certificate, obtained by People magazine on Wednesday, lists acute hypoxic respiratory failure and status asthmaticus as conditions leading to her death, with asthma being the underlying cause.
TMZ had previously reported that the actor suffered a severe asthma attack and was placed on life support at a hospital in Los Angeles. According to the outlet, Knowings was left with brain damage from the medical event and later passed away.
Knowings appeared on the Nickelodeon sketch series All That for three seasons, from 1997 to 2000. Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson led the tributes to his erstwhile co-star.
"Man this one hit hard! Rest well Christy! Never could have imagined this day! Sending so much love to her family!" he wrote. "She was a real one and one of the funniest people out here! Gonna miss you buddy."

The biotechnology sector has long rewarded companies that can translate early clinical promise into late-stage validation, and nowhere is that dynamic more ******* ounced than in oncology. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remains one of the most challenging cancers to treat, with limited durable options for patients who relapse after standard therapy.
That unmet need has made AML-focused immunotherapy a magnet for both strategic pharmaceutical partnerships and investor capital willing to underwrite clinical-stage risk in exchange for outsized upside potential. SELLAS Life Sciences Group, Inc. (SLS) sits squarely within this high-stakes corner of the market.

The cause of death for "All That" child actress Christy Knowings has been released weeks she died at 46.
Knowings died Aug. 11, four days after she was admitted to a hospital, according to a death certificate obtained by People on Sept. 2. Her cause of death was reportedly cardiac arrest, with acute hypoxic respiratory failure and status asthmaticus, or severe asthma, listed as contributing conditions.
Respiratory failure occurs when the blood doesn't have enough oxygen or or there is too much carbon dioxide present, according to the National Library of Medicine's MedlinePlus.
"Christy was a multi-talented lady," her manager, Al Hill, told Variety in an Aug. 13 statement. "Whether it was singing, acting, dancing, she was always creating. Always professional and dedicated to her work."
A relative of Knowings previously told TMZ that the actress was hospitalized following an asthma attack on Friday, Aug. 7, and put on life support.

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart announced a partnership with PSD Underwear earlier this month. On the surface, it looked like a standard marketing deal. The story behind it is not.
Years before the announcement, Dart met PSD founder Curt Flaitz and Flaitz's son, Rookie, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia just before his second birthday. Rookie finished chemotherapy in January. When his hair finally grew back enough for a first haircut, the family asked him what he wanted it to look like. He did not hesitate.
"When I wrestle my brothers, I'm Jaxson Dart. When I wear my chain, I feel like Jaxson. And I wanted my hair to look like Jaxson too," Rookie said.

Dart invited him to the Giants facility so the haircut could happen there.

The Pittsburgh Steelers finalized their initial 53-man roster, but keeping four quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Drew Allar, came with severe systemic trade-offs.
On a recent episode of the "Locked on Steelers" podcast, host Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette sounded the alarm on how ****** ding signal-callers has severely compromised positional depth across the rest of the team.
"If you keep four quarterbacks, it's going to leave some holes somewhere that you're going to have to fill," Carter explained. "And lo and behold, they kept four quarterbacks and there are some serious holes that got to be filled."
The structural crunch is felt most acutely on the offensive line and in the secondary. The Steelers enter the regular season carrying just three active offensive tackles: starting left tackle Troy Fautanu, likely starting right tackle Dylan Cook, and rookie Max Iheanachor.
With Jack Driscoll relegated to short-term injured reserve, Pittsburgh lacks a true, proven swing tackle.

Now that Prince Harry has moved back to the U.K., there's a much higher chance that he'll run into his older brother, Prince William, whom he has been estranged from for years.
One "quite significant" event—the 30-year anniversary of their mother Princess Diana's death in 1997—could reunite the brothers face-to-face, according to royal biographer Robert Jobson.
Two fellow brothers could also play a role in bringing William and Harry "back together," according to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams.
This August 31 marks 29 years since Princess Diana's death at just 36 years old in a 1997 Paris car crash. Unbelievably, in 2027, 30 years will have passed since the seismic loss that was felt around the world—but none felt it more acutely than her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
The brothers aren't thought to have spoken to one another since 2022 and their grandmother Queen Elizabeth's funeral that September. Much has happened since that time, including—unexpectedly—Harry's return to the U.K. on August 26, alongside his wife Meghan Markle and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The Sussexes spent six years in the United States—Montecito, California, specifically—and are now back in Britain for what is being described as an extended stay.

Alex Baena bagged a brace and Ademola Lookman was also on target as Atlético Madrid claimed a statement 3-1 win at Sevilla on Saturday.
The hosts had made a bright start to their La Liga campaign by winning both their opening two fixtures but they were three goals down after 33 minutes after Baena struck either side of Lookman's goal.
Miguel Sierra scored midway through the second half but it was a mere consolation as Atlético maintained their unbeaten start to the season, moving on to seven points after three matches.
Handed his first start of the term – after coming off the bench in the win over Malaga and the draw against Villarreal – Baena wasted little time in vindicating Diego Simeone's decision.
Lee Kang-In cut in from the right before playing a cute through ball to Baena, who shot first-time across Sevilla goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos from an acute angle into the net after four minutes.

Britney Spears "felt like a robot" at the height of her fame.
Returning to Instagram on Thursday, the Princess of Pop posted two videos showing her dancing in underwear.
In the accompanying captions, Britney offered insight into her experiences as a young artist and the pain she endured when she was placed under a conservatorship in 2008. The controversial arrangement lasted until November 2021.
"I actually miss the way I respected people so much that there was a genuine mystery of acute oneness when we were together, which was sacred," she began. "I feel like, still to this day, people don't realize the real damage that was done to my heart and soul in the conservatorship."
Britney went on to recall how she felt like "someone different" when performing.
However, her perspective on the entertainment industry shifted after she had her children. The Toxic hitmaker shares sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

WASHINGTON – Justice Department lawyers argued that without President Donald Trump's support for renovating the Kennedy Center – including putting his name on the building and grounds – the "decrepit, dilapidated, crumbling" venue "cannot be saved."
Congress has approved $257 million for the project. But government lawyers argued that without Trump's additional fundraising aiming for more than $100 million, the work can't be completed.
The lawyers said a board member fighting the placement of his name on the building, Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, should prefer that to having the building destroyed.
"The crisis is so acute that, without the Trump Administration, its people, and President Trump, the Center cannot survive, either structurally or financially," government lawyers said in a filing Aug. 25. "The bottom line is this: Even Beatty should prefer a healthy, restored Center to a decaying hulk that is doomed to inevitable destruction or collapse."

On August 13, ARS Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:SPRY) held its second-quarter 2026 earnings call, the first for new President and CEO Donn Casale. He used it to lay out three priorities: sharper commercial targeting for neffy, tighter financial discipline, and a pipeline push into chronic spontaneous urticaria. The quarter itself showed a company still early in proving its epinephrine nasal spray can win over prescribers who default to needle-based injectors out of habit.
The headline number is market share. Neffy's total US share reached 5% in the second quarter, double the 2.5% mark from a year earlier. Inside the field sales team's targeted call universe, share jumped further, to 8% from 4%. That targeted approach is showing up in the prescriber data too, with more than 16,000 unique neffy prescribers in the quarter, over three times the year-ago total. Casale pointed to a stark gap between covered and uncovered territory: where the sales team is active, neffy holds 8% share versus roughly 1% where it isn't.
To lead that push, ARS brought on Meg Smith as Chief Commercial Officer, a 25-year veteran Casale worked with at Dynavax. The field organization is now fully built out and pointed at the highest-value prescribers, who represent 44% of the total market opportunity. Beyond neffy, ARS is extending its intranasal epinephrine platform into CSU, a market with no FDA-approved on-demand treatment for acute flares today, a gap the company believes its existing commercial infrastructure is positioned to fill.
The flip side of that story is cost. Second quarter total revenue was $33.7 million, with $26.2 million of that coming from US net product sales, against total operating expenses of $95.1 million, including $12.8 million in cost of goods sold. SG&A alone ran approximately $77.6 million for the quarter, a level Casale acknowledged reflected an earlier strategy built around broad consumer advertising that didn't convert well in what he described as a prevention-based market rather than a treatment market.
The company is now guiding to combined SG&A and R&D expenses of $114 million to $126 million for the back half of 2026, with cash-based spending in that category expected to fall to $100 million to $110 million, a cut of more than 40% in cash SG&A from the first half of the year. That reduced spending pace is expected to hold through 2027. On the pipeline side, the CSU phase II-B interim readout, previously expected by the end of 2026, has slipped to the first quarter of 2027, a delay the company attributed to the trial's design requiring patients to log three separate flare episodes before data can be collected.

Wall Street has spent the last week absorbing Nvidia's (NVDA) plan to arrange half a trillion dollars of other people's money, and the sharpest objection came from someone who was explicitly trying to argue the other side. Asked on the All-In podcast published Aug. 14 where the arrangement could break, David Sacks, while still an overall bull on AI and similar, is acutely aware of the risks of the massive, multi-trillion-dollar AI buildout, saying, "The biggest risk to me is not on the demand side," he said. "The biggest risk is that you get a glut of compute and you get an overbuild. And in the same way that we had dark fiber after the dotcom crash, if you had dark GPUs, that'd be a disaster for everyone."
On Aug. 10, Nvidia said it had signed memorandums of understanding with Apollo (APO), BlackRock (BLK), Blackstone (BX), Brookfield (BN), Goldman Sachs (GS), and KKR (KKR) to establish independent compute financing platforms to "mobilize over $500 billion of third-party capital for the buildout of AI infrastructure over time." The release adds that the partnerships "remain subject to execution of the final agreements." Meaning, that figure is an aspiration, not raised money, not committed money, and not Nvidia revenue. Several outlets blurred the distinction.

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Six million people in Somalia are facing acute food insecurity while the World Food Program has only a tenth of the resources it had in 2022 when it helped avert famine in the drought- and conflict-stricken East African nation, the head of the U.N. agency told The ******* ociated Press.
"We can only do the bare minimum," WFP acting executive director Carl Skau said Wednesday during a visit to a nutrition center on the outskirts of the capital, Mogadishu. "We're only providing these nutrition supplies to the children that are really the worst hit."
The reduced funds, because of cuts in international aid by donors and the redirection of resources to other humanitarian crises, meant that the WFP is unable to expand its ******* istance in Somalia, Skau said.
The WFP projects that 1.9 million children under age 5 in the country will suffer acute malnutrition this year, including nearly 500,000 who will require urgent treatment for severe acute malnutrition. Overall, around 30% of the population faces critical levels of food insecurity, the U.N. has said.
"We had 10 times more resources than now," Skau said of the 2022 hunger emergency that was caused by a prolonged drought. "We were able to step in, and we prevented a famine here in Somalia."

The story of Kendall Schara has been told plenty of times by now.
How the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay volleyball player was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on April 25, 2025.
How one of her two younger sisters, Elle, helped save her life by donating stem cells for a stem cell transplant.
How Schara attacked her situation with the intensity she had on the volleyball court and was in remission a year later.
But one year later, there is still so much to tell.

For years, AbbVie (NYSE: ABBV) was known primarily for immunology. Humira built the company into a pharmaceutical giant, and newer blockbusters Skyrizi and Rinvoq have helped replace much of the revenue lost to biosimilar competition. Now the company's got another iron in the fire -- neuroscience -- and it's no slouch.
Management now expects its neuroscience portfolio to generate approximately $12.7 billion in revenue during 2026, raising guidance by another $100 million after a strong first half of the year. That's a remarkable figure when you consider that the portfolio generated $10.8 billion last year and continues to grow at a double-digit pace.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Unlike some pharmaceutical franchises that depend on a single blockbuster, AbbVie's neuroscience business has become increasingly diversified. During the second quarter, neuroscience revenue climbed 20.3% year over year to $3.23 billion. Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder drug Vraylar generated $1.07 billion, therapeutic Botox contributed $1.04 billion, and migraine drugs Ubrelvy and Qulipta combined for $742 million in quarterly sales. Parkinson's disease therapy Vyalev added another $256 million.
The fastest-growing part of AbbVie's neuroscience business may be migraine. Combined sales rose 22.6% year over year as Ubrelvy and Qulipta continued gaining traction with physicians addressing both acute migraine attacks and migraine prevention.

PITTSBURGH – The Detroit Tigers miss Riley Greene, as anyone who is breathing will tell you – including manager A.J. Hinch, who feels the left-fielder's absence as he makes his lineup card out every day.
"You notice it because he's a tremendous player and because he plays every single day," Hinch said Monday, Aug. 17, "he's a mainstay in the middle of our order. He's definitely missed. Like a lot of teams, when you lose a mainstay, you feel it."
The loss is even more acute, he pointed out, when the Tigers face a string of right-handed starters, as they will at PNC Park on Monday-Wednesday. Greene doesn't just provide power, he provides protection as a lefty. His absence isn't why Kevin McGonigle and Dillon Dingler have been scuffling lately – especially Dingler, who went 1-for-34 before doubling against the White Sox on Sunday.
