Investors were spooked Wednesday by signs of escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran as the two conducted peace talks and sent major indexes lower in the afternoon. Economic data was mixed with the Federal Reserve's Beige Book due later Wednesday. And Ollie's Bargain Outlet (OLLI) extended a losing streak on the stock market today.
The Dow industrials dropped 0.8%, or more than 400 points. Losses deepened for the S&P 500, with financials leading the broad market benchmark down 0.7%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite fell 1%.
All three indexes scored record closes on Tuesday. In Wednesday's trade, the small-cap Russell 2000 index was the hardest hit and tumbled 1.4%.

COLUMBIA, S.C (AP) — A South Carolina jury on Monday found a store owner not guilty of murder in the 2023 shooting of a Black 14-year-old.
The jury returned the verdict for Chikei Rick Chow. Chow, 61, who is Asian, shot Cyrus Carmack-Belton in the back after chasing him from his convenience store in Columbia. He maintained he acted to defend his son.
The killing sent waves of anguish and grief through the African American community in Richland County, where nearly half the population is Black.
After the verdict was read, sobs and cries of distress could be heard coming from Carmack-Belton’s family seated in the gallery. Chow sat silently frozen before slowly bowing his head onto his interlocked hands.
Defense lawyer Jack Swerling said they're very pleased with the verdict but also feel for Carmack-Belton's family.

The NFL landscape was shaken up considerably on June 1, as multiple blockbuster trades reshaped the league's power structure.
It started when the Los Angeles Rams acquired two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has been invited to testify before Congress as the league faces increasing federal scrutiny about its broadcast deals and its recent practice of airing games on paywalled streaming services.
Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, sent a letter to the commissioner on Monday requesting his appearance at a hearing on June 10 examining the league's TV deals and their compliance with the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961.
The 65-year-old law grants professional sports leagues limited antitrust immunity, allowing them to pool their media rights and negotiate as a single entity while protecting them from antitrust lawsuits.
The law applies only to broadcast networks. Courts have ruled in the past that it does not apply to other media, including cable, satellite and streaming. There has been bipartisan sentiment in favor of updating the law, and president Donald Trump has been among the critics of the NFL's embrace of streaming.
According to Jordan's letter, the hearing next week will “examine the extent to which the antitrust exemption created by the SBA has been used by the professional sports leagues to harm consumers and whether potential legislative remedies may be needed to address that harm.”

Saugatucks Neave Rewa keeps record-breaking career going, lands college spot
SAUGATUCK - Neave Rewa sets a record nearly every time she steps on the pitch.
The Saugatuck soccer senior broke the school record for career goals last year and it grows every time the ball hits the back of the net.
"The biggest thing is she is so determined to achieve what she wants to achieve. When she loses a ball, her whole body changes and you know she is going to get it back," Saugatuck coach Neal Phillips said. "This had to be tough on her to switch coaches and systems as a senior and she is still thriving."

Rewa said part of that stems from learning from older players in the program that has become one of the best small-school programs in West Michigan.

Summer is here, sort of, and it is everyone’s favorite time of the year, scouting time. Every year, we do Summer Scouting to preview college football for Bucs fans, but also give them an idea of names to follow and watch in the fall as needs pop up for Tampa Bay.
Are we going to write about quarterbacks? Offensive tackles? Edge rushers? You know it, but why? Because other NFL teams will draft them, just as they will draft every other position. It all matters whether these players end up on the Bucs, the Bears, or the Steelers. We write these so Bucs fans can be the most informed fans.

Are we going to write about quarterbacks? Offensive tackles? Edge rushers? You know it, but why? Because other NFL teams will draft them, just as they will draft every other position. It all matters whether these players end up on the Bucs, the Bears, or the Steelers. We write these so Bucs fans can be the most informed fans.

Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) purchased 535 bitcoin for approximately $43.0 million at an average price of $80,340 per coin, the company disclosed Monday in a Form 8-K filing. The firm now holds 818,869 BTC, acquired for roughly $61.86 billion at an average cost of $75,540 per bitcoin, and has recorded a bitcoin yield of 9.4% year-to-date in 2026.
The acquisition was funded through $0.1 million raised via Strategy’s STRC ATM program and $42.9 million from its MSTR ATM offering.
The purchase comes six days after executive chairman Michael Saylor told investors on the company’s Q1 earnings call that Strategy was prepared to sell a portion of its bitcoin holdings for the first time. On the surface, elevated Bitcoin dominance signals cryptocurrency market participants are favoring that ****** et over its peers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean bad news for altcoins and the CoinShares Altcoins ETF (DIME). Examining the details more closely matters and upon doing that, market participants may find that DIME is worth considering over the near-term.
“This rise matters because investors still prefer Bitcoin’s relative strength while broader market confidence remains fragile. However, beneath this dominance surge, altcoins slowly began stabilizing after months of sustained pressure,” reported AMB Crypto.

The 2026 free agency frenzy is essentially over. The 2026 NFL Draft is in the rear-view mirror. The Tennessee ******* ans held their rookie minicamp last weekend, and now the players can slow down and enjoy the moment. The rookies will especially need some time to process everything that's happened over the last few months before they can truly appreciate where they are.
They'll have to lean on that appreciation a lot in their first year. Not only do they have the stress of learning a new system, learning a new city, learning a new locker room, and going through the transition to become a pro, but they'll have their "rookie duties" to handle, too. Even first-round draft pick Carnell Tate will have duties to handle.
"He's just like everybody else. Those rookie dinners and things like that, but really excited about him. I think he's going to elevate our offense and do great things, so, [I'm] ready to work with him," Wan'Dale Robinson says.
An off-camera voice reminds Robinson that he's just signed a new contract and wonders if he's still going to make Tate foot the bill.
"Oh yeah, he's gonna have his rookie duties," Robinson replies, laughing. He continues, "I don't care if I just got a new deal, he just got a new deal, too!"

Record US drought sparks worries about fires, water supply and food prices
Drought in the contiguous United States has reached record levels for this time of year, weather data shows. Meteorologists said it's a bad sign for the upcoming wildfire season, food prices and western water issues.
More than 61% of the Lower 48 states is in moderate to exceptional drought — including 97% of the Southeast and two-thirds of the West — according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. It's the highest levels for this time of year since the drought monitor began in 2000.
