LANCASTER – It was a tale of two halves for the Lancaster football team in their season opener against visiting Hilliard Darby.
The Golden Gales were impressive in the first half, especially on defense, shutting out the Panthers to take a 9-0 halftime lead. However, the Gales' inability to move the ball with consistency in the second half proved to be their downfall. As a result, Lancaster's defense was on the floor more than it should have been, and Darby took advantage.
The Panthers rattled off 20 unanswered points in the second half. The Gales kept fighting and scored with 3:40 remaining to cut the margin to a one-score game, but it wasn't enough as the Panthers hung on for a 20- 15 nonconference victory on Friday, Aug. 21 at Fulton Field.

Lancaster certainly played well enough to win, and it was one of those games where they had to feel like they let slip away. The glaring stat was that Darby ran 59 offensive plays compared to just 41 for the Gales.

A Philadelphia native like me (go Birds), Tina Fey is, without question, the best thing to ever come out of Pennsylvania's Upper Darby Township. (Apologies to the area's other famous residents like Todd Rundgren, Ed McMahon, and Cheri Oteri.) Fey currently stars on the Netflix series "The Four Seasons," but now that she's not personally churning out 20+ episodes of a network TV show anymore, she has a little more time on her hands ... and takes opportunities to appear on podcasts with people like Poehler. In February of 2024, Fey made an appearance on "Las Culturistas," the pop culture obsessed podcast hosted by fellow "SNL" veteran Bowen Yang and his comedy partner Matt Rogers. While there, she gave the world the gift of a particular quote during a closing segment of each episode ******* led "I Don't Think So, Honey," where Yang, Rogers, and the guest each get one minute to air a niche grievance. "Gift" is not an exaggeration. The quote was so good that, at the following Las Culturistas Culture Awards, Rogers and Yang led the entire audience in a recitation of Fey's "I Don't Think So, Honey" and called it their "Pledge of Allegiance."
So, what does Fey say in her one minute that's so impactful? Once you get to a specific level of fame, you can no longer share your hot takes.

Jul. 12—EUGENE — Eugene's Lisbel Diaz hit two two-run home runs and the Spokane Indians lost to the Emeralds 9-5 in the finale of a six-game High-A Northwest League series at PK Park on Sunday.
Diaz finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs. The Indians (14-7) were led by Jacob Hinderleider, who had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs.
Indians outfielder Tommy Hopfe hit the first pitch of the game for a solo home r, his 11th of the season.
Eugene (10-11) pounced on Indians starter Jordy Vargas in the bottom half. Diaz hit a two-out, two-run blast — his third of the week and 13th of the season. Zander Darby followed with a double and Jakob Christian knocked him in with a line -drive single to make it 3-1.
Diaz went deep again in the third, another two-run shot, for his second career two-home -run game in High-A.

LSU football's recruiting class didn't change much when Lane Kiffin took the head coaching job, despite Kiffin taking over just a few days before the Early Signing Period. Kiffin and Co. did a good job holding on to LSU's top commits.
But Kiffin's staff added a name to the class, too. Wide receiver Corey Barber flipped to the Tigers, backing off his Ole Miss commitment. With Kiffin taking nearly the entire offensive staff from Oxford, Barber decided to follow.
Barber filled a need in LSU's recruiting class. After losing wide receiver commits like Tristen Keys and Kenny Darby, LSU needed another blue-chip pass catcher. Barber fit the billing. Rivals labeled Barber a five-star and the No. 28 overall player in the class. 247Sports wasn't quite as high, ranking Barber No. 61 overall and No. 9 at his position. Still, Rivals' ranking speaks to the ceiling of the receiver from Alabama.
That said, is there room for Barber to make an immediate impact in 2026? LSU only returns one wide receiver who caught a pass for the Tigers last year, and that's Phillip Wright's lone reception. LSU hit the transfer portal to build its wide receiver room, signing several coveted names.
The room is deep, but given the uncertainty and lack of returning production, it's wide open. Anyone can earn playing time.
