Marlee Matlin has worked with interpreter Jack Jason for roughly 40 years, a partnership that has made his voice familiar to audiences watching her interviews and public appearances.
On the Sept. 28th episode of The Person Who Believed in Me, host David Begnaud asked whether people ever question why a woman uses a male interpreter.
"I want people to think that I smoke five packs of cigarettes a day, and that's why I have a deep voice," Matlin joked.
Jason is also her business and producing partner. When they met, however, Matlin said she had only recently left high school and knew little about working with professional interpreters.
Matlin had just finished filming Children of a Lesser God and was living in New York with Hurt, her costar and boyfriend at the time. He was preparing for a magazine interview at their home and did not want the reporter to see them together, she told Begnaud, according to PEOPLE.

A reconciliation for Kourtney Kardashian Barker and Jennifer Lawrence is in the Kards.
Kardashian Barker, the eldest of Kar-Jenner siblings, revealed on the Season 8 premiere of "The Kardashians" (Hulu, Thursdays) how much the Oscar-winning actress' recent criticisms stung, and that Lawrence expressed her regret in an email.
During a round of Vanity Fair's Lie Detector Tests, which was shared to the outlet's YouTube channel in November 2025, Lawrence identified Khloé Kardashian as her favorite Kardashian.
"Kourtney is more annoying than ever," Lawrence, 36, told a puzzled Robert Pattinson, her "Die My Love" costar. "She drives me nuts… Because everything has to be an announcement. It's like, 'I'm not going to wear outfits anymore.' Like, just wear whatever you want. Don't make an announcement about it. Or, like, 'I don't have a TV in my room.' Just don't watch TV. Stop announcing it. Just shh!"
While driving with her friend, Simon Huck, Kardashian Barker, 47, explained that her emotions stirred back up after her mom, Kris Jenner, sent her family a message, saying, "'Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone, I talked to them last night. They're the best,' or something."

After a series of high-profile relationships that imploded, Jim Carrey is doing things differently with new wife Min Ah, a source tells In Touch.
"He's kept the relationship almost totally out of the spotlight and that's something he intends to continue doing because he regrets being so public in the past," shares the source. "He thinks all the noise did a lot of damage to his past relationships."
Following his first marriage to former Comedy Store ***** tail waitress Melissa Womer — with whom he shares daughter Jane Carrey, 39 — the actor was wed to his Dumb and Dumber costar Lauren Holly. Their union lasted just nine months before she filed for divorce. Carrey later dated his Me, Myself & Irene leading lady, Renée Zellweger, as well as Singled Out alum Jenny McCarthy.
"Privacy is very important to Jim now," the source says. "And Min is on the same page."
Initially spotted together in 2022, the now-newlyweds finally acknowledged their romance during the César Awards in Paris this February, with the comedian, 64, referring to Ah, 32, as his "sublime companion," per People.

As he enters the final chapter of his life, Robert Wagner is fine-tuning his $20 million will — and a source says the actor, 96, plans to leave a portion of his fortune to late wife Natalie Wood's loved ones.
"Robert still loves Natalie deeply," the source tells Examiner. "He honors her every birthday and anniversary, so the idea of doing something for her extended family as a way to honor her memory really appeals to him."
The 43-year-old actress mysteriously drowned in 1981 during a trip on the yacht Splendour with Wagner, then 51, and her Brainstorm costar, Christopher Walken.
While the Hart to Hart actor has consistently denied any involvement in her death — and an investigation officially cleared him as a person of interest in 2022 — his actions on the night of Wood's passing have long been scrutinized.
"Robert knows that for some people Natalie's death will always be the first thing they think of when they hear his name," adds the source. "That hurts him enormously. He can't change what happened or what people think, but he can still do something positive for the people she left behind and hopefully get some closure from that himself."

For Josh Hartnett, acting is just what he does for work.
"We have four kids, so it's busy," the 48-year-old said Oct. 2 on the U.K.'s This Morning of life on the "tiny little farm" he calls home with wife Tamsin Egerton. "My life is my family life and every once in a while I come out and do something like this—which is such an anomaly for me, and I'm a little bit nervous."
Though, he added, thanks to his family, "I feel much more at ease with all this stuff now than I used to."
"This stuff" is the global press tour for his new thriller Verity, in theaters now, costarring Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway. But while promoting a film doesn't seem like something that would faze the veteran actor, he's been candid about why he so readily settled in Egerton's native England years ago.

Helen Mirren would rather turn to artificial intelligence than visit the doctor.
The 81-year-old actress revealed she "totally" avoids doctors while speaking to Entertainment Weekly at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was promoting her new thriller, A Talent for Murder.
Mirren was joined by costars Alden Ehrenreich and Olivia Cooke, who described themselves as hypochondriacs while discussing how they bonded on set.
Mirren, however, joked that she was the "opposite of hypochondria," adding, "I just completely ignore everything."
When Ehrenreich, 36, asked if that meant she avoided doctors, Mirren replied: "Totally deny. I avoid doctors. Oh no, totally. And it's working."

Sandra Bullock has learned to love who she becomes during life's darkest times.
The 62-year-old actress has lost two deeply close loved ones in recent decades – her longtime partner Bryan Randall, who died in 2023 at age 57, and her mother, Helga Meyer, who passed away in 2000 at age 58.
In the second part of an interview with Hoda Kotb for the Today show, Bullock opened up about how she has dealt with being in the room when those closest to her slipped away.
"It's hard because there isn't a guidebook. Nothing has served me in a more fulfilling and enlightening way than being with someone in the room when it happens," Bullock – who was being interviewed alongside her Practical Magic 2 costar Nicole Kidman, 59 – told Kotb. "And I've been there and I've seen it and it's been different every time. But I love how I am in that moment. That's something about myself that I don't know where it came from, but I love how I am to the person in that moment."

Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Let's start the night off by taking a look back over the three biggest stories of Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026.
Paulo Costa requested UFC release multiple times with only one fight left on contract – 'I'm very professional': At 35 years of age, maybe Paulo Costa thinks he can cash out in the boxing ring before his career is up? I'm not sure what MMA promotion would pay him significantly more than his current UFC contract.
Paddy Pimblett details hatred of Ilia Topuria: 'I want to inflict pain on his life': It really is remarkable that two random undercard fighters started beefing and then ended up as two of the sport's biggest stars years later.
Justin Gaethje breaks down Ilia Topuria's fatal flaws during UFC White House fight: 'He made terrible mistakes': Gaethje actually offers some interesting insight into Topuria's movement here, good stuff.

Lane Thomas was a late scratch in the Braves lineup today. We have heard why from Walt Weiss.
I'm not a doctor, but as I understand it an intercostal strain is slightly different from an oblique strain. An intercostal strain affects the muscles under the ribs. An oblique strain affects the sides of the abdomen. In any case, it's an Injured List visit for Thomas. He will join Bryce Elder as the second Braves player placed there this week.
In case you missed it, Mauricio Dubon pulled away from the plate with an oblique issue in today's game. According to reports, Walt said postgame that he felt something in his back and it wasn't a big deal. We might see DaShawn Keirsey Jr. on the active roster for the Philadelphia series tomorrow, but we don't know at this point. I'm not sure what the Braves will do if that Dubon goes down. We will see more of Ha-Seong Kim, I'm sure. But I'll take two hits a game like today while he's gone.
Oblique injuries are going around. Y'all be safe out there.

Phoebe Bridgers embraced her natural beauty while stepping out at the Venice Film Festival with unshaven legs.
In pictures published in an article by Vogue, the singer, 32, confidently showed off her natural body hair while posing in a Gucci skirt at a press event for her new film, Primetime, on Saturday, September 5.
Bridgers appeared alongside costars Robert Pattinson and Bokeem Woodbine, but her decision to ditch the razor attracted plenty of attention of its own, with social media users praising the musician for confidently displaying something completely natural.
"Rather than undermining the femininity of the look, unapologetic hair sharpened it," the outlet wrote in their article which was published Sunday, September 6, while one X user noted, "this is literally so rare for public figures omg…. queen."
Added another, "The people yearn for the normalisation of body hair on women!!"

Bridgerton's first leading lady, Phoebe Dynevor, has said "I do" herself after marrying fiancé Cameron Fuller on Saturday, September 5, according to a report from The Sun.
The actress who famously plays Daphne Bridgerton in Netflix's Shondaland hit is poised to continue her romantic streak onscreen with the streamer's highly anticipated adaptation of Emily Henry's Beach Read. When it comes to Dynevor's own fairytale, her nuptials reportedly took place at Le Mas de Poiriers, an 18th-century farmhouse in Provence, France.
The property, which accommodates up to 250 guests, spans 65 acres, and among the crowd celebrating Dynevor and Fuller's big day were her mother, Coronation Street actress Sally Dynevor, and her sister, Hattie. It's unclear if any of Dynevor's Bridgerton costars were in attendance at the shindig. The insider source for The Sun revealed that the event "ended up being absolutely perfect."
Dynevor and Fuller began dating in 2023 before becoming engaged to be married in 2024, when it was confirmed during her red carpet appearance at the Met Gala that year. The wedding follows Dynevor's "hen do," a.k.a. bachelorette party, which took place in August at the Broadwick Soho.
