Charles Barkley says some of the best money advice he ever got came from Michael Jordan on a golf course.
The Hall of Famer recalled the moment Jordan pulled him aside while playing golf in the early 1990s. On The Dan Patrick Show in June 2025, Barkley said he was making about $3 million a year from his Nike endorsement deal at the time.
"We were playing golf and he says, 'Chuck, I was talking to somebody, I want you to quit taking $3 million. Take $1 million and take the other $2 million in stock options,'" Barkley said.

1006 ET – U.S. pending home sales fell 3.5% week-over-week to their lowest level in almost three years, Redfin says. Declining homebuying demand is giving buyers breathing room. It means less competition and more room to negotiate for the house hunters who are still shopping. New listings fell slightly, -0.5%, from a week earlier, but they’re still up 1.5% year-over-year, and there are still hundreds of thousands more home sellers than buyers in the market. More homes on the market equals less pressure on buyers to rush into a decision or pay more than they want. Home-sale prices are holding steady. The median home-sale price rose 2% year-over-year. That stability means prices aren’t soaring, and that sellers aren’t in immediate danger of home values dropping. (chris.wackwsj.com)

U.S. diesel prices have moved into record territory. The national average price of diesel climbed to a record $6.23 per gallon on Sept. 14, after first breaking above the $6 threshold last week. And diesel is hitting new highs again today at around $6.31. According to AAA data, the national average diesel price reached about $6.05 per gallon on Sept. 11, 2026, surpassing the previous record established in June 2022. The latest price is roughly 68% higher than the level of about $3.71 per gallon a year ago, highlighting the extraordinary speed of the rally.
The surge is being driven by a global shortage of refined petroleum products rather than crude oil alone. Disruptions to Middle Eastern energy infrastructure, sharply reduced traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, and attacks on Russian refineries have reduced the availability of diesel and other middle distillates. The situation has become serious enough that diesel prices are now adding to broader inflation concerns while simultaneously creating a potentially attractive environment for U.S. refiners.

Rocket Lab (RKLB) stock has traded between $39.48 and $150.23 over the past 52 weeks. It now sits about 58% below its 52-week high, and anyone who bought twelve months ago is still up about 19%. None of that tells you what you would be buying today. Rocket Lab sells two quite different things, and the one its name points at is the smaller of them.
In Q2 2026 the ****** e Systems segment brought in $189.5 million. Launch Services brought in $44.6 million, down 30% from the previous quarter despite a similar number of launches. Management attributes that drop to accounting rather than lost work, because revenue from those launches is recognized over time and much of it had already been booked.
So Rocket Lab earns most of its revenue building satellites and their parts. Electron flew its 16th mission of 2026 in September. Launch is a real franchise, and it is not where most of the money comes from.
The stock trades at 52 times sales, against 3.1 for the S&P 500, on revenue of about $0.8 billion over the trailing twelve months. At this valuation, investors are largely pricing in future execution on the Neutron medium-lift rocket and the financial impact of the pending Iridium acquisition, rather than current satellite production alone. Management targets delivery to the pad in Q4 2026, and says the window for a launch before the end of 2026 is narrowing.
And you are paying for Iridium, which Rocket Lab has agreed to buy and expects to close in mid-2027. Iridium, a global satellite communications network, serves more than 2.5 million subscribers and delivered over $870 million of revenue in its past year. That is more than Rocket Lab's whole trailing twelve months. Management calls it a relatively slow-growing business that brings profit rather than a hole in the income statement.

FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE:FE), through its Potomac Edison subsidiary, proposed a $52.8 million Maryland distribution-rate adjustment to support investment in aging infrastructure, grid modernization and electric-system reliability. If approved, the request would increase the average residential customer's monthly bill by approximately 5.3%.
Potomac Edison said its electric rates were 25% below the average of its in-state peers as of June 1. The utility expects its residential rates to remain the lowest among Maryland's investor-owned electric utilities even after the proposed adjustment.
The proposed reliability program includes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition technology, replacement of substation reclosers, new circuit ties and automation, overhead-conductor upgrades, aging underground-cable replacement and removal of high-risk trees near power lines. The Maryland Public Service Commission must review and approve the request before any adjustment can take effect.
The proposal connects the requested revenue to specific reliability investments. SCADA technology can give operators greater visibility into system conditions, while reclosers, circuit ties, and automation can isolate problems and reroute electricity. These capabilities can reduce the number of customers affected by outages and shorten restoration times.
Reconductoring, underground-cable replacement and vegetation management address physical causes of service interruptions. The investments could also improve resilience during severe weather, potentially lowering emergency-response costs and reducing the disruption experienced by customers.

TeraWulf fell 4% to $16.50, APLD dropped 3%, and IREN slid 2%, all on broad profit-taking after strong YTD gains with no new company catalysts.
The Bitcoin mining ETF WGMI dropped 4% while QQQ fell just 0.4%, confirming the selloff is a group rotation, not broad tech weakness.
Paul Meeks initiated TeraWulf with a Buy and $19 target, while a 20-year Anthropic deal worth $19 billion in contracted revenue remains fully intact.

Shares of TeraWulf (NASDAQ:WULF) are down 4% to $16.50 in Thursday's midday session, trimming a slice of what's been a 43.6% year-to-date advance for the stock. The pullback is showing up across the miner-turned-AI-infrastructure cohort, and there's no fresh company disclosure to pin it on.

B HODL stock has climbed 67% in a month. It announced buying 1 BTC on Thursday, lifting its treasury to 167.487 BTC.
The company trades on the Aquis Stock Exchange, a small London venue for growth companies. It part-funded the purchase by completing its second at-the-market (ATM) equity programme, with its Capital Deployment Programme covering the rest.
The company paid £57,680, or about $77,772, for the coin. Its average cost sits near $110,129 per Bitcoin, so the treasury stays roughly 29% under water.
Bitcoin (BTC) traded near $77,658 on Thursday, up 0.3% on the day. The coin has gained 22% in a month, so B HODL stock tripled that pace.
Sats per share climbed to 120.16 from 117.77 at the end of April. That number matters because dilution only pays when each share ends up holding more Bitcoin.

USA Rare Earth (NASDAQ: USAR) is a critical minerals specialist that went public through a merger with special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) Inflection Point Acquisition Corp. II in March 2025. The company saw some volatile trading in the months immediately following its debut, but it went on to hit a lifetime high in October of that year following reports that the company was discussing a potential partnership with the White House and rumors that the U.S. government could take a stake in the business.
In January 2026, USA Rare Earth actually did announce that the U.S. government was establishing a roughly 10% ownership stake in the company that could expand to 16% with the exercise of warrants -- but its share price has still fallen far below the high it hit last year. As of this writing, the stock is down roughly 53.5% from that valuation peak. In other words, a $10,000 investment made in the stock at that point would now be worth roughly $4,650.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
While the U.S. government's desire to increase its ability to source critical minerals domestically and reduce its dependence on minerals from China presents a potentially powerful catalyst for USA Rare Earth's business, the company is still in a relatively early stage of expanding its operations. Along those lines, the company generated just $11.5 million in revenue across the first half of this year. Meanwhile, the mining and processing player has a market capitalization of roughly $4.4 billion.
The company's move to acquire Brazilian rare-earth specialist Serra Verde in a roughly $2.8 billion deal should dramatically expand USA Rare Earth's sales footprint and earnings potential, but the deal being primarily funded with stock also means that shareholders will see significant dilution. USA Rare Earth has growth opportunities on the horizon that could help it bounce back and climb well above its past valuation peak, but investors should approach the stock with the understanding that it's a speculative bet.

Defunct Yellow Corp. has reached settlement agreements with four multiemployer pension plans totaling up to $526 million to resolve remaining withdrawal liability claims. The deals are supported by its largest shareholder, MFN Partners, and would bring an end to a legal battle that began shortly after the less-than-truckload carrier filed for bankruptcy in August 2023.
(Yellow previously agreed to terms with most of the MEPPs it once contributed to on behalf of employees.)
New York State Teamsters Conference Pension and Retirement Fund, Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust Fund, and Western Pennsylvania Teamsters and Employers Pension Fund would receive the bulk of the funds. New York Teamsters are seeking approval for a $300 million claim.
A federal bankruptcy court in Delaware has been asked to approve the plan, which "will bring the current multi-year long MEPP litigation in these cases to an end … thus allowing the Liquidating Trust to begin making meaningful distributions to general unsecured claimants."
As part of the deal, MFN has agreed to drop its pending appeals and will waive its right to file certain legal fees and expenses.

A legal arbitrator has ruled that cryptocurrency exchange Gemini (NASDAQ: $GEMI) cannot be held liable for the collapse of its Earn lending program.
Specifically, the arbitrator in the case said that Gemini, led by twin brothers Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, did not mislead users and was not at fault for the failure of Earn lending.
The legal claim was filed by investors in 2024 following the lending program's collapse. The arbitrator found insufficient evidence that Gemini lied to customers or failed to do due diligence.

JEPQ's ~4.7% forward yield requires roughly $842,000 to generate $39,600 annually, nearly double the commonly cited $420,000 entry point.
A 30% Nasdaq-100 drawdown would shrink a $420,000 JEPQ stake to ~$294,000, while its floating distributions have already declined from 2023 highs.
JEPQ distributions are taxed as ordinary income, cutting the after-tax yield to ~7.4% for retirees in the 22% federal bracket.

Let us say you are 68 and your goal is $3,300 a month in portfolio income. That works out to about $39,600 a year, which is close to what a single retiree typically gets from an average Social Security check plus a small pension. The real question is not just how much capital you need to park to hit that number, but what you have to sacrifice in exchange.

Western Digital (NASDAQ: WDC) and Seagate Technology (NASDAQ: STX) have both outpaced the S&P 500 by a wide margin this year, driven by their data storage products. Solid-state and hard-disk drives have become critical hardware for the artificial intelligence build-out, and both companies specialize in those products.
While both growth stocks have performed well, if you're trying to pick which to invest in now, there are a few key factors to weigh.

On August 13, Applied Industrial Technologies (NYSE:AIT) held its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call, and the numbers surprised even the company's own leadership. Organic sales grew 9.7%, the fastest pace in more than three years and a sharp jump from the 6% growth reported just one quarter earlier. For a distributor whose fortunes track the health of American manufacturing, that kind of acceleration is not a small thing, and it set up a call that ended with management raising its long-term ambitions rather than just its short-term guidance.
The breadth of the improvement stood out as much as the headline number. Twenty of the company's top 30 end markets posted positive year-over-year sales growth in the quarter, up from 17 last quarter and just 15 a year earlier, with metals, technology, utilities and energy, machinery, rubber and plastics, and pulp and paper leading the way. Automation sales jumped more than 20% year-over-year, the strongest growth in over four years, as customers lean into robotics, machine vision, and what management called physical AI.
The technology vertical now makes up more than 15% of the Engineered Solutions segment, with semiconductor demand and data center buildouts both contributing. The Service Center segment grew organic sales 8%, up from 4% last quarter, with 27 of 30 verticals positive. That segment has averaged 8% organic sales growth and 13% EBITDA growth over the past five years, a track record management pointed to as evidence the business is more durable than investors might ***** ume. All of that flowed through to the bottom line. EBITDA margin expanded more than 60 basis points to above 13%, EBITDA grew 16%, and SG&A expense fell to 18.6% of sales. The company generated $461 million in free cash flow for the year, returned $317 million to shareholders through buybacks, raised its dividend 11%, and used the momentum to lift its five-year targets, pushing the sales objective to $7 billion from $5.5 billion and the EBITDA margin goal to 14% from 13%.
The guidance Applied issued for fiscal 2027 tells a more cautious story than the quarter it just posted. Full-year sales growth guidance sits at just 4% to 6.5%, well below the 9.7% just delivered, with management citing tougher comparisons in the back half of the year and limited visibility into how trade policy and geopolitical dynamics evolve. Inside Engineered Solutions, flow control sales growth was muted in the quarter, weighed down by a difficult prior-year comparison and softer MRO activity across process end markets like chemicals and refining, both of which also declined outright for the year alongside lumber and wood and transportation.

STOCKHOLM, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Apple said on Tuesday it will charge a 5% commission on digital transactions in apps distributed outside its App Store, replacing a more complex system as it seeks to comply with the European Union's Digital Markets Act.
The company last year changed App Store rules and fees in the EU after the bloc's antitrust regulators ordered it to remove commercial barriers that they said hindered developers from directing customers outside the store.
The regulators criticised Apple's conditions, including a new Core Technology Fee, saying they discouraged developers from using alternative app distribution channels on its iOS mobile operating system.
Apple said on Tuesday that App Store apps using alternative payment processing will face a 20% commission, although fees could fall to 10% under its small business programme.

American Airlines Group Inc. (NASDAQ:AAL) delivered a record second quarter, with revenue climbing 16.3% year over year to an all-time high of $16.7 billion as demand strengthened across premium, corporate, domestic, and international travel. Adjusted earnings of $0.15 per diluted share also topped Wall Street expectations.
However, an 83% surge in fuel expense largely offset those gains, highlighting the key question facing investors: can stronger commercial execution eventually overcome one of the industry's biggest cost headwinds?
The strongest argument in favor of American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) is the quality of its revenue growth rather than the headline number itself. Total revenue rose 16.3% to a company-record $16.7 billion, while capacity increased only 5.4%. Passenger unit revenue improved across premium and Main Cabin products as well as domestic and every major international region. Premium passenger unit revenue increased 13.4%, Main Cabin passenger unit revenue rose 8.8%, and domestic passenger unit revenue advanced 10.6%. The gap between revenue growth and capacity growth suggests American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) generated a significant portion of its improvement through stronger pricing and higher revenue per available seat rather than simply flying more aircraft.
The broad-based improvement is also encouraging because it extended across premium, Main Cabin, domestic, and international markets rather than being concentrated in a single route or customer segment. Recoveries supported by multiple revenue streams tend to be more resilient, particularly if economic conditions soften or travel demand becomes less predictable.
American Airlines Group's (NASDAQ:AAL) premium strategy is becoming an increasingly important part of its investment case, as it continues to see momentum in its premium revenue performance due to strength in both corporate and premium leisure demand. This is particularly important for the investment case because premium and corporate customers generally generate more revenue per passenger than economy travellers. American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) is supporting this strategy by adding premium seats through new Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR deliveries and retrofits of several existing aircraft types. Continued premium growth could improve the airline's revenue mix even if overall passenger growth moderates.

Shares of Fermi (NASDAQ: FRMI) fell 37.9% in July, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence. The AI trade came to a halt in July, and power beneficiaries like Fermi crashed along with it. A company trying to build a private electric grid in Texas, Fermi made its public markets debut last year and has seen its stock sink a quick 80% from its highs.
Here's why it fell again in July, and whether shares are worth buying the dip on today.
Continue »
Fermi's pitch to investors is to build a massive amount of power generation in Texas for private consumption, meaning for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. There are clearly a ton of data centers being built in Texas, which Fermi could help companies get to market by bringing power directly to them.
The stock went public in late 2025, but it quickly dropped after a major partner backed out of its AI energy campus in Texas, leading management to raise money to pursue its ambitions. The company has continued investing capital in its campus, resulting in significant cash burn before its power plants are operational.

Conestoga Capital Advisors, an ******* et management company, released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The letter reports a positive market shift towards Small Caps, with the Russell 2000 Index achieving its best first half since 1991 and the Russell 2000 Growth Index up 25.7% in Q2, fueled by AI enthusiasm and semiconductor stocks. However, market leadership was uneven, mirroring the Tech Bubble, as high-beta stocks outperformed while high-quality companies lagged, impacting Conestoga's quality-focused strategies. Management expressed confidence in long-term outcomes, noting that speculative leadership won't last as monetary policy tightens and market breadth improves. The firm remains committed to high-quality growth businesses, expecting these to regain favor as leadership broadens. The Conestoga Small Cap Composite returned 14.32% net-of-fees in the second quarter, with 25.71% for the Russell 2000 Growth Index. Narrow Index leadership hurt the relative results, but it also hid Composite improvements. In addition, please check the Strategy's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Conestoga Capital Advisors highlighted Matador Resources Company (NYSE:MTDR). The firm added Matador Resources Company (NYSE:MTDR), a US-based independent energy company engages in the acquisition, exploration, development, and production of oil and natural gas resources, to its Small Cap Composite during the quarter. On August 04, 2026, Matador Resources Company (NYSE:MTDR) closed at $48.80 per share. One-month return of Matador Resources Company (NYSE:MTDR) was -7.58%, and its shares gained 4.56% over the past 52 weeks. Matador Resources Company (NYSE:MTDR) has a market capitalization of $6.06 billion.
Conestoga Capital Advisors stated the following regarding Matador Resources Company (NYSE:MTDR) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Matador Resources Company (NYSE:MTDR) is an independent oil and natural gas producer focused on the Permian Basin. We believe the company is well positioned to generate attractive shareholder returns through disciplined capital allocation, production growth, and balance sheet strength despite a volatile commodity environment. Management continues to prioritize increasing production, reducing debt, and maintaining capital discipline, providing flexibility across a range of energy price scenarios."

Apple is due to report earnings Thursday afternoon, with options pricing suggesting traders see its stock swinging up to about 4% by the end of the week.
Thursday's report will be Apple's last with Tim Cook as CEO, with John Ternus set to take over the top job in September.
Apple is set to report earnings after the closing bell Thursday, with traders expecting the iPhone maker's stock could extend its record-setting rally following the results.
Based on current options pricing, Apple (AAPL) shares are seen swinging up to about 4% in either direction by the end of the week. A move of that size from Tuesday's close could send the stock up to a new record above $352, or back below $328, giving up some of its recent gains.
After overtaking Nvidia (NVDA) as the world's most valuable company and watching its market capitalization briefly cross the $5 trillion threshold, Apple saw its shares finish Tuesday's session 1% higher at a closing record of $340. The iPhone maker's stock has added one-quarter of its value this year amid optimism around strong iPhone sales and anticipated advances under new CEO John Ternus, who's set to take the helm from Tim Cook in September.
